My Top 5 Favorite Musical Artists 2021
I wanted to another one of these for this year, but my main blog site is locked, so I made a backup here.
Tumblr media
5. WINTERGATAN - Thanks to Youtube’s recommendation, I discovered Martin’s 2016 Marble Machine video. It reminded me of old Animusic videos such as Pipe Dream, but he actually made one! He is currently working on another marble machine, and I really love his older videos where he talks about different musical machines. Some of my favorite videos include Marble Machine, 100 Year Old Self-Playing Violin, and  SommarfĂ„gel.

4. 4s4ski - Being a fan of Zheani, I eventually discovered this artist. Her songs are unique and very creative, her apparently using real game boy sounds for Hyper Angry Cat. She even dabbles in social commentary; living in Japan with tattoos and colored hair. She definitely speaks to the teenage punk inside of me. She also look so much fun to see live. Some of my favorite songs include I LOVE ME, 35.5, Lavender( ăƒ©ăƒ™ăƒłăƒ€ăƒŒ ), and Hyper Angry Cat.

3. ZHEANI - Unfortunately, I discovered her through the Zheani vs Die Antwoord scandal. I won’t lie, at first I was on Die Antwoord’s side, but the more I saw what they were doing, the more they showed their true colors, I finally was on Zheani’s side, and have become a big fan of hers. And I’m sorry I wasn’t on her side to begin with. Her music is raw and authentic. Whether it be happy songs or angry ones, she continues to give it her all, staying true to herself. And I also love her free-spirited nature. Some of my favorite songs include Fuck the Hollywood Cult, I Won’t Sell My Soul, Lava, and DIRTBIKE.

2. HEILUNG - Thanks again to Youtube’s recommendations, I discovered this lovely group. Many people describe them as Viking Folk Metal, but they are so much more than that.
They sing about peace, war, and the healing that comes after war. Their live performance isn’t so much a modern concert, but more in the vein of a ceremony or ritual. They promote spiritual healing and oneness as brother and sister of all the same spirit/energy. They also express themselves through hand-made clothing and instruments made of hide and bone. They also sing in some ancient languages such as Old English, Proto-Norse, Proto-Germanic, and Viking age Old Norse, as well as English and Swedish. Not to mention Maria’s voice is visceral and ethereal. Definitely one of the best voices out there!
If you want a intense spiritual experience, I recommend you go see them live. I saw them in Colorado at the Red Rock Amphitheatre in October, and the drums echoing off the mountainside was so beautiful! And the crowd howled at the moon as it started to appear in the sky.
They have definitely awoken the feral child in me, and the desire for oneness with nature and the well-being of the earth. Some of my favorite songs include  Hamrer Hippyer, Traust, Norupo, and  Alfadhirhaiti.

1. AURORA - Still number 1 since my 2020 post. She’s such an inspiration to me and her music touches my soul. She is fearless in her authenticity on stage, through her music, or when she’s just making a TikTok, and she inspires me to be like that; to live in love to the tune of my own drummer. It’s beautiful! There’s not much more I can write other than what I’ve already put in my previous post. Some more of my favorite songs from her include Runaway, Boy in the Grass, The River, and It Happened Quiet.
