White Moon, a Northern Cheyenne who fought at the Battle of Little Bighorn holds a US Springfield carbine, caliber .45, serial no. 48482, he took from a slain 7th Cavalry trooper on June 25, 1876.

He gave the carbine to Thomas B. Marquis on June 24, 1927, soon after the doctor-historian took his picture.

White Moon was 77 years old when he participated with fellow Northern Cheyenne Wooden Leg, Little Sun, Wolf Chief and Big Beaver at the 51st Little Bighorn Battle Reunion.

He died in May 1931.

So regarding the fanfic idea I have rattling around in my head (Sisko and Janeway meeting on Deep Space Nine)

Caretaker takes place on Stardate 48315.6

The Search takes place on Stardate 48213, and the next time they mention a Stardate is in Meridan (Stardate 48423.2) which means Caretaker takes place between these two dates. I'm inclined to think that it takes place after House of Quark (IRL, it premieres right after Past Tense which damn, what an act to follow) because Quark is incredibly confident in Caretaker and I think the events of House of Quark would have had him riding pretty high. However, it probably takes place before The Abandoned, since dealing with the Jem'hadar on the station would have commanded a lot of Sisko's time. (And of course, there's no reason why IRL episode order means actual in-universe order, given that again, Caretaker aired after Past Tense, which was Stardate 48482)

There's really no need to be this detailed about the time, since the only thing that happens between The Search and Meridan that would really have caused problems would be Civil Defense, but it is kinda nice to think about. I also want the entire station crew to on the station, since it would make it more bittersweet because like...the first searches for Voyager had to have been launched from Deep Space Nine. The Defiant is even probably one of the better ships to send into the Badlands, which means Sisko may have been personally involved (He'd had it for such a short time he was probably still really attached to it.)
