Thank you so so much for letting me share this with you and for your feedback ❤️!! So, my idea is that the gaming PC should be able to play all current and upcoming games on very or ultra-high settings without any issues (e.g. Alan Wake 2, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, etc.), be silent and not overheat quickly and have good airflow, and have space for expansions and/or upgrades.
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow RGB Edition, glass window, white CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 8x 4.2GHz, 96MB L3 cache or AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, 12x 4.4GHz, 128MB L3-Cache => I'm a bit indecisive on which one here. Mainboard: Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX, AMD B650 Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 12GB, Gigabyte Aero OC RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 Corsair Vengeance RGB, 2x 16GB, white SSD: 2TB Western Digital Black SN850X, read up to 7.300 MB/s Power supply: 850W Corsair RMe 2023, fully modular CPU cooler: Corsair iCUE H100i RGB Elite, white, 240mm
It's a bit on the pricey side, but I'm willing to order it if it can do well and I don't need to upgrade it in a bit, especially, because I don't think there'll be many more games with higher graphics as there are currently.
Hey love, that's a kickass build!!! I would go for the Ryzen 9 7900X3D instead. Simply because it's stronger and this is a purchase that should last you for a few years. Series 7 is great but there is a 10% more chance for a bottle neck.
My rule of thumb is always to go a bit over with the PSU because if your PSU dies, then it can take your entire PC with it. (It happened to me once, and it was painful!!!) Having said that, I think the minimum for 4070 RTX is 750W, but I would go with 900, perhaps just to be sure. It's not a must.
As for RAM. Go for 64. They are not that expansive and also DDR5 are incredible. I have the Vengence as well :).

Tech friends, I need your help.
I'm choosing between 2 laptops to buy. We'll call them laptop 1 and 2, for the sake of simplicity. (I'm in no hurry to buy one, mine works... just fine... but not great. It struggles when I have too many tabs open in Chrome, and is lagging as I write this post with literally only Discord open in the background. I'm sure you can imagine how it handles any heavier program. Yes I made a mistake by cheaping out when I could afford better, yes I am aware of this, yes I regret it deeply, let's move on.)
Laptop 1 is about 100 dollars/euros/1000 SEK cheaper.
They both have OLED screens with approximately the screen resolution: laptop 1 has a 15.6" display with 2880 x 1620 resolution (16:9) and laptop 2 has a 14" display with 2880 x 1800 resolution (16:10). My current laptop has a 14" display with 1920 x 1080 resolution (16:9) so either way it's a pretty big upgrade. In terms of size alone, I prefer the 15.6". (Laptop 1 weighs 1.8kg and laptop 2 weighs 1.45kg, which is not enough of a difference that it really matters to me.)
Laptop 1 has a higher refresh rate (120Hz vs 90Hz on laptop 2).
Their processors are both AMD Ryzen 7s (8 cores, 16 threads, 16GB RAM) with equal base clock speed (3.2GHz), but laptop 1 has a Ryzen 7 5800H while laptop 2 has a Ryzen 7 6800H. The two processors use different RAM types (5800H uses DDR4 RAM & 6800H uses LPDDR5 SDRAM (though it is fully possible that the 5800H also uses SDRAM and the sites I'm looking at just aren't telling me)). 5800H has a higher peak temperature (105 Celsius vs. 95 Celsius). The 6800H has a higher turbo clock speed (4.7GHz vs. 4.4GHz).
They both have the same graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050), they both ship with Windows 11, and they both have 1TB of storage space.
Ultimately, I think the main question is whether laptop 2's better processor makes a big enough difference that it negates laptop 1's comfort of a bigger display and justifies the price difference despite it being smaller... and I do not know enough about laptops to make the call there.
("Build your own PC" and "buy a desktop PC" are both advice I will not take because I do not own or have space for a desk.)
(They're both Asus Vivobook Pro OLEDs: laptop 1 is M6500QC-MA025W and laptop 2 is M6400RC-KM001W, and more specifically, they cost 15990 SEK and 16990 SEK. My current laptop is also an ASUS Vivobook but I don't even think they make it anymore because it's so bad. It has a 2-core Ryzen 3 processor and 128GB of storage space.)
#z talks#not horse game#i hope i got everything important.#I'm aiming to purchase sometime in August or September#(that's when I'll have money from my summer job)#so I'm really in no rush lol#it just got in my brain again

can you build a pc for me? i'd like a list of parts and prices, thank you very much!!
Sure, here's the parts list I used for my current PC, which I've been using for about a year now.
Note that I was not a computer engineer at the time, I just built my PC by doing some online research and making some educated guesses based on what I knew at the time. It was all a bit approximate, so keep that in mind. I was also really bad at some things, like assembling my PC, installing Windows, etc.
AMD Ryzen 7 9 3900X, 4c/8t 3.70GHz; 2x 32GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM (OC) 2408MHz; 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD; 1TB 7200RPM HDD; 128GB DDR4-4133 SODIMM; GTX 1660Ti 4GB; Corsair MPC-E RX 480 DDR4-3850 MHz; Intel Celeron 3735U; Gigabyte EXO-RA120M v6; Samsung 960 Pro NVMe (OC); 128GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM; LG ENVY W2419S/T OLED 24″ 4K TV
This is the parts I used for this build. I may have slightly tweaked it when building the next PC, but that's only going to change the case and a couple of processors, for the most part.
Intel Pentium Anniversary Edition CPU; Intel Core i7-10800G7; Intel Z390 Pro WIFI-AC 7260; Intel Z390 Express; Nvidia RTX 2060 Gaming; 16GB RAM; Corsair Vengeance LPX LPX 2133MHz; Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 NVMe (OC); AMD Ryzen R9 X5950 PRO 4c/8t 4.4GHz; Samsung 256GB NVMe (OC); Samsung 960 Evo Plus M.2 NVMe (OC); Samsung 860 Evo Plus M.2 NVMe (OC) DDR4-3700 (OEM); Corsair Vengeance LPX LPX DDR4-2933MHz; ASUS Maximus VIII Hero Intel Iris Plus Graphics; Intel X370 Professional; Samsung QX2 NVMe 1TB SATA SSD; Intel X530 Quad Core (OC); Samsung 1TB M.2 NVMe (OC) DDR4-3200MHz
This is the last build I did, but I didn't really mess around with that one, and I'm not going to be changing it now either. It was basically the same as my other PC, with some changes to the processor and graphics card to accommodate the new motherboard design. This motherboard doesn't have the same kind of dedicated cooling setup the others do, but I didn't really like having it open, so I think this is how I want to continue with these systems.
Intel Pentium Anniversary Edition CPU; Intel Extreme Edition 100-Series Intel X540; Intel 10th Gen Whiskey Lake Refresh Processors; Intel QCLK Max Performance Platform; Intel X570 PCH; Samsung P1 NVMe (OEM); Samsung P2 NVMe (OEM); Intel X710; Intel Z390 Chipset; Intel H330; Samsung 960 P-Plus; Samsung M.2 (P) (OEM); Samsung M.2 (PL) (OEM); Samsung QX1 NVMe 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD; Intel QX11 NVMe 1TB SSD; Intel P3700 NVMe 1TB NVMe M.2 (OEM); Samsung P1 NVMe 512GB SSD; Samsung P2 NVMe 1TB SSD; Samsung P3 NVMe NVMe 2TB SSD; Samsung M.2 QX1 NVMe 512GB; Samsung 960 M.2 512GB (P1); Samsung 960 Pro M.2 (512GB; 512GB); Samsung 960 EVO M.2 (512GB; QX1); Samsung 960 PRO M.2 512GB; Samsung 960 PRO M.2 (QX1); Samsung 960P M.2 (512GB); Samsung 960P M.2 512GB (P1); Samsung 960 PRO M.2 1TB (P1); Samsung 960 PRO M.2 QX1 (512GB) (OEM); Samsung 960 PRO M.2 512GB (OEM); Samsung 960 P M.2 512GB (OEM); Samsung M.2 P3 EVO Plus NVMe; Samsung M.2 P2 EVO Plus NVMe; Intel X570 Express; Intel X710; Intel Z530; Intel H270; Intel H370; Intel X99; Intel X299; Intel Z390 Express; Intel Z390 Pro WIFI AC 7260; Intel B250; Intel X570 AFR; Intel Z390 ATX; Intel X550; Intel X5; Intel B45; Intel B55; Intel D1500; Intel Z390; Intel D1546; Intel K1100; Intel B85; Intel B85; Intel QX520; Intel QX32; Intel H360; Intel H370 Express; Intel Z390 (P2/C101); Intel Z530; Intel Z560; Intel Z570; Intel Z575; Intel Z530; Intel Z620; Intel Z640; Intel Z660; Intel Z640; Intel Z740; Intel Z740; Intel LGA 1166
I'm not exactly sure how many of these were actually "used" – like I said, I wasn't really using my old PC for anything, so it was kind of like "ok I guess that'll be the new PC" – but I think these are all the actual parts?
Also if I had known how much space I'd need for the new PC sooner, I would have ordered the SSD's and HDDs in larger sizes. I had planned to get a 1TB SSD for the OS and OS updates + large files (music, etc.), and I went with a 1TB SSD for everything else (including games), since I was worried I might not be able to fit everything on my current drive. I'm not sure if there are performance differences between 1TB vs 2TB drives, and I'm not sure if that will really be an issue for me for now given the relatively small size of my OS and data files.

(Spoilers for Half Life 2) Can someone recommend PC games where you take down corporations or something analogous?
(Spoilers for Half Life 2) Can someone recommend PC games where you take down corporations, or something analogous? Title. Preferably the more visceral the better, as an FPS or third-person shooter. In Half Life 2 (and expansions), the overarching theme is that Dr Breen cut a deal with the Combine to turn the world into a hellscape of control and power, and you as Gordon Freeman (with Alyx's primary help) get to wreck Combine soldiers (who may or may not be human; Barney uses a Combine suit to hide his identity, but the game itself doesn't explore their humanity, and they all have the same voice), Hunters, security systems, auto-turrets, and ultimately very likely kill Dr Breen and blow up the Citadel. There are a lot of games that make fun of or satirize corporations, or figures that can be seen as corporate or maniacal overlords, in some way (Borderlands, Bioshock, the Far Cry games...all of which I've played a lot of). The issue I have is that, like corporations in America, the people who are the front lines of corporations are not the problem--I firmly believe every able person should work at least 6 months in customer service; then they'd see that the front line workers are peons who disseminate the corporate word because they need to make a living, not because they necessarily want to (Note: I worked 10 years as either a cashier or a bookseller or bank teller.).Soooo many people have crappy jobs where they don't own the product they are promoting nor do they agree with the policies they are promoting, and have to stuff their emotions at work because of their idiot bosses etc etc ad nauseam. I'm not hugely interested in taking out the workers for this reason. So I'm looking for games where destroying the corporations that made society (however this might look in-game) the hellscape it is is the main focus, and I want it as satisfyingly visceral as possible. The "analogous" part would be governments, since so many governments are paid off by Big Corporate, but I didn't want to write that because I don't want to feel like I'm on an FBI watch list :P.I looked at Deus Ex: Human Revolution's (I have a 9 year old PC and not much money to build a new one) description, and it says that you work for a corporation, though obviously I don't know how that ends up. I have both it and Control, and I haven't yet looked up the setup of Control. No spoilers please for either game. I just find too many games with stereotypical rank and file enemies that are easy to hate (Nazis, whatever vile things each Call of Duty game decrees we're supposed to hate and their footsoldiers...I've put a lot of time into LOTRO again but the enemies are orcs, trolls etc...easy to deem an enemy). To put a historical perspective on this, Stalin decreed "not one step back" in the Battle of Stalingrad, with the penalty of being murdered by your country. The individuals involved are so often not the problem, but are pawns.Yeah this got political, and I guess that's inevitable to a degree. But any suggestions?EDIT: my specs:i5-4690K with a stable 4.4GHz OC16GB DDR3GTX 1070tiSATA SSD Submitted April 14, 2024 at 07:48AM by BaephBush https://ift.tt/gkhCSu5 via /r/gaming
