3tanniversary survey audio answers: ep. 1 | transcript below the cut

[ 241107 ] Hey everyone and welcome to episode one of 3 years with 3tan audio replies.

The first question we have - again, the question is "if you were given time to sit down and talk with me as the author, what would you want to talk about and or do?" First person - it is anonymous - they said, "I'd probably ask for writing advice and want all the details of how you came up with 3tan and also talk about life and whatnot."

That's awesome. I mean, I, I love talking about life, love talking about pretty much anything. I'm a yapper (laughs) sometimes and sometimes I just sit there and listen. It really depends.

But! How I came up with 3tan, I mean. I get this one quite a lot, but it started when I took inspiration from one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite fanfics. But I definitely wanted to put my own spin on it, right? Like I was definitely not going to copy it entirely because we all know (laughs) that's a no-no, but I did want to reimagine it and put my own little.. tangerine in it (laughs) and then imagine it with Yoongi. But also throwing in that brother's best friend trope because I wanted to explore that with him in general.

And honestly from there it took a life of its own. Completely took a life of its own, nothing else is even remotely close to what that original fanfic was about and they really did take on their own personalities, they all took on their own environment, everything just started - just started flowing. And of course from there I left it as open-ended as possible, that way if these characters decided to come back to me with more, they had more to say, then I was down with it.

And then the second question is, "how do you write your characters' emotions and descriptions so well? I'm very curious about that. Every time I read your [stories] I can feel the emotions deep in my soul and it makes me feel like I'm part of the story as a reader." That is amazing feedback. Thank you.

As far as writing characters' emotions and descriptions, I think I'd have to draw this out, but. Essentially, like let's say you're shooting a movie scene. You have a lead or you have two leads, whatever, right? But then you also have a director, but then you also have camera operators, most likely more than one, and you're switching between those two.

I'm. I put myself in every position. So one moment, I'm the main lead. One moment I'm a camera operator on their right, and then the second - and the next moment - I'm the director looking at everything.

That's why there's so many cuts, I would say. So many beats, those small paragraphs, because everything is like a snapshot basically. And that's how I go about my descriptions.

And then as far as emotions, I'm in it. Like I am in that scene, whatever it is with these people. And it's tough. It really is.

And I know other writers out there will know exactly what i'm talking about. You take on these emotions too when you're writing them. You're attached to them, and it does a number on you, it really does.

That's why.. That's why we definitely need breaks after working on a piece and even posting the piece. Like you got all those emotions on paper and you're releasing it to the world for everyone to see and it's nerve-racking, but it's rewarding at the same time when people really connect with it.

3tanniversary survey audio answers: ep. 2 | transcript under the cut

[ 241107 ] Hi, my loves. Welcome to episode 2 of three years with 3tan audio answers.

For this question, we have, "what point did you realize that your popularity and story were becoming bigger than you anticipated? Slash, how did that shift from just being a fic to it being a community feel?"

2022 was a really big year for 3tan in general, but I think it was because.. even though I said I wasn't like a schedule person, it was getting updated like either every month or every two months. And when you're constantly putting out a series like that, it's just inherently gonna get more engagement because it's gonna keep showing up, if that makes sense.

To be very honest with you guys, I don't think about things in terms of popularity or follower count or whatever. It's more of the engagement level, and that is when - 2022 is when the engagement level started skyrocketing. And (laughs) a big contributor to that? You're not gonna believe this if you weren't here at the time but if you were here I think you're gonna get this when I say.. 3tan bro. (laughs)

3tan bro was the key because everyone had either their own member - like they imagined him as either Seokjin, Hoseok, or Namjoon - but some people didn't. And it was a huge debate that just got to hilarious proportions, we even had the most ridiculous answers like Psy (laughs)

Honestly I think that was the icebreaker because there was a lot of people that were just reading it, but then they finally got into it, into the whole interaction piece and it made a lot of people more comfortable interacting - with me or with each other because people were (laughs) people were talking to each other via the inbox and I was just being a messenger at that point. Like I was just the poster and they were just debating, arguing, laughing with each other and it was just great.

So Stay was.. I think Stay was the big, the big jump. And then after that, it just became its own thing. Like we started really becoming a community at that point.

And honestly, I miss it. Thank you for this question. It's making me reminisce on a lot of stuff and just thinking about the people that.. used to be here.. Umm. That probably aren't anymore.

I think about.. I think about a lot of you even if I don't know your real name. Like if I just know you by your emoji or something and you haven't sent in an ask in a while, I hope you're doing well. I'm grateful for all of you and I try to remember as much as you as possible. Whether it's your birthdays or, umm…

Yeah. Anyway, next question!

"What are your favorite parts? I wanna know." Ooh, my favorite parts? Definitely Fireworks. That whole thing, I keep saying this, but Fireworks.. Fireworks just has its own emotion and feel that I will never be able to replicate. I still think about that balcony a lot.

Stay, the water scene (laughs) along with many of you. That was a big turning point too because we saw Yoongi finally, like, be himself instead of.. You know, he surprised us all and that was a really, really good moment.

All the scenes in the kitchen, you know me. The kitchen is a super important place for these characters and by extension myself. And.. some of the ones I can't talk about yet. (laughs)

But yeah. Also the I love you scene. Honestly? That one came out of nowhere. That one surprised me, too. And as soon as he said it, I.. just cried.

So take that as you will. And yeah.

I really love your writing, and I love you and I love all the readers and the special emojis readers.

This has been my go to place whenever I felt overwhelmed and wanted an escape from the cheos of my life.

Also I have learnt a lot about my emotions and how to handle and regulate them. This may seem a little wiered to some people but really sometimes you need a 3rd prospective about certain situations in your life.

oh strawberry :'))) thank you so much for the kind words! it really did start with tangerines. i'm glad you're still here and reading the series, resonating with these characters, and just having a comforting time. it's a comfort read, after all! that's a big part of why i write it. we all need a little safe space to go to when we need it, and i wanna pass that down after having my own from writers before me.

it's great that you've been learning how to regulate your emotions from it, too. we don't have to be afraid of them or dismiss them or let them control us. we grow and live with them. honestly? 3tan has also helped me grow as a person, so you're definitely not alone there.

It's 16 Nov for me already so I'm celebrating early by reading the og three tangerines chapter (⁠・⁠∀⁠・⁠)

Thank you so much for writing and posting the story three years ago and then posting multiple chapters after that the past three years (⁠人⁠ ⁠•‌⁠ᴗ⁠•‌⁠) I honestly can't imagine a life not reading the story ಥ⁠‿⁠ಥ

I hope you'll always find inspiration and motivation to keep writing what you love and get through all the rough times. I'll always be cheering and waiting for you and your stories :⁠^⁠)
