Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🐻! Well.. last week’s 3Fates Facts Friday written by Bee intrigued me when she suggested visiting the Forest Park Cemetery, otherwise known as The Gates of Hell. So I did some research on this suggested haunt for myself. The Forest Park Cemetery, located in Troy, NY, was formerly known as the Pinewoods Cemetery. It has graves dating back as far as the 1850’s and more recently has been referred to as the Gates of Hell by locals. The cemetery is mostly abandoned with more than a thousand graves which are the final resting place of restless souls. Upon passing through the gates of the cemetery there is a definite moody and dark atmosphere. Upon first wandering into the cemetery one will come upon the beheaded statue of an angel. Legend has it that visitors have seen blood dripping down the neck of this angel. For those visitors with the bravery to wander further into the cemetery beyond this beheaded angel and the many sunken graves, you may just wind up with scratches on the back of your neck and down your forearms as experienced by previous guests to the grounds. Paranormal investigators to the cemetery have reported seeing a young man dressed as a soldier appearing and hearing the word “hello”. This is believed to be the spirit of a young German Soldier who committed suicide on the grounds in the early 20th century. Whether you believe in the supernatural or not, these legends that still exist today are very intriguing to many people. So if you are one of the many, perhaps you should look into these Gates of Hell stories yourself. Until next time, enjoy your paranormal searching days (or nights)! 😳😮 (Photo credit to original photographer) #cemetery #ForestParkCemetery #TroyNY #paranormal #spooky #ghosts https://www.instagram.com/p/CQSNjIntYrv/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🐻 My piece of paranormal information this week is the story of the Ghost Ship found abandoned off the coast of North Carolina in what is referred to as the Outerbanks. A massive schooner was sailing along the shores of Cape Hatteras in January of 1921. The ship, dubbed the Carroll A Deering, had been traveling from Barbados. It passed by the Cape Hatteras Lookout Lightship and the Diamond Shoals Lightship. Crew members had been seen milling about onboard the deck. The ship apparently was seen to be floundering off the shores of the cape but due to heavy storms at sea a rescue ship could not reach the schooner until February 4, 1921. Upon boarding the ship the “rescuers” found an eerie site. They discovered that all personal belongings, navigational equipment, maps, papers, and even the ship’s anchors were missing. In addition, food had been placed out as if for a meal. However, there was no sign of the crew. In fact, no sign of the crew has ever been found. . . . . . . #ghoststories #ghost #paranormal #spooky #haunted #ghosthunters #ghosthunting #paranormalactivity #paranormalinvestigator #ghostship #hauntedship #hauntedplaces #hauntedboat #spooky #halloween https://www.instagram.com/p/CSzLUhjr9Uu/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🥔 Ahoy mateys! This week we have a pirate fact that'll make you shiver your timbers. 🏴☠️🦜 Captain Blackbeard, born as Edward Teach, was one of the most well-known and feared pirates of all time. He and his crew would pillage ships all across the Atlantic Ocean from 1716 to 1718. In 1718, Blackbeard's crew was hunted down by a crew sent specifically to kill them just off the coast of North Carolina on Ocracoke Island. Ultimately, Blackbeard was beheaded with his head being hoisted on to the bow of the ship that killed him and his body tossed into the ocean. Since then, it is believed that the spirit of Blackbeard has been haunting this area. Most people claimed to encounter Blackbeard by a small channel on the Island called Teach's Hole. Some people have seen an unusual light moving in the water believing that it's Blackbeard swimming around looking for his decapitated head. This is further backed up by the claims of many saying that Blackbeard's voice can be heard on stormy nights in the area with the captain most often shouting "Where's my head?". #3fp #pirates #blackbeard #ghost #northcarolina #paranormal https://www.instagram.com/p/CSg4gbULmcN/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday! Today is brought to you by 🐝! The Salesian School for Boys in Goshen, NY was built in the 1930s and still stands, albeit condemned, to this very day. However if you decide to visit, you won’t be able to help but wonder if the fencing keeping people out of the abandoned school isn’t keeping the secrets of something far more haunting in. On August 9, 1964 a little boy that was attending the school somehow made his way up onto the roof of the school in the middle of the night, barefoot and clad only in pajamas. It is from the roof he tumbled 36ft to his death. The case of how this happened still remains unsolved to this very day. Although the boy’s death was ruled accidental by the county coroner at the time, many speculate that the little boy may have been purposely thrown off the roof resulting in his death. In 2003, the case was reopened when it was noticed that details about the boy’s death were strange. In order for the little boy to have fallen from the roof he had to get over a 4 foot tall concrete barricade all by himself, which police now believe is very unlikely. Where the little boy’s body was discovered was also deemed too far away from the building to be the result of an accidental fall. There was also a discrepancy upon the time of death which was now believed to be several hours earlier than what was originally reported. Is it possible that this boy’s demise wasn’t the result of an accident but actually a heinous murder by a school bully that was covered up by the administration? Many believe this may be the case, including police. Mysteriously enough a fire that happened on the school property in the 1970s destroyed all the information on what students were enrolled at the time of the boy’s death leaving police unable to investigate further. The school closed in 1991 and has remained vacant ever since. Or has it? Visitors to the school grounds bordering the fenced in building claim to see the apparition of a boy wandering past the windows of the school. There are stories of a ghostly figure appearing on the roof at night and faint whispers hanging in the Summer air. Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🐻 New York City has quite a few haunted areas. One which I have found to be quite intriguing is North Brother Island. This 13 acre piece of land is located in the East River just a few miles from Manhattan Island. North Brother Island has a tragic history which first began when the Riverside Hospital was relocated onto it. Highly contagious patients whose diseases such as small pox, tuberculosis, yellow fever and typhus were treated by the staff there. The intent was to isolate these patients in order to maintain them, but many patients were kept there against their will, and eventually died there. There was no telephone service and visitors were not allowed. The most notorious of these patients was Mary Mallon, who was more commonly known as Typhoid Mary. The island itself is thought to be extremely haunted. Many patients died on the island, there was even a morgue built there for those who did not survive their quarantine. Conditions were horrible: overcrowding, food shortages, and much of the winter, no heat. In 1904, a boat carrying a church group caught fire and sank near the island. Staff from the hospital helped to pull bodies from the water.. Over 1000 people died when it sank. Due to the close proximity of Riker’s Island, visitors ito North Brother island is strictly prohibited. However, past visitors have claimed to hear screams coming from the center of the island near the remains of Riverside Hospital, as well as hospital gowned apparitions and whispering sounds. The island’s past has certainly opened paths for paranormal activity. Some people have even claimed to see a ghostly boat floating in the water near the island at night. #facts #factfriday #nyc #northbrotherisland #newyork #typhoid #typhoidmary #haunted #spooky #ghosts #3fatesfactfriday #3fpfactsfriday https://www.instagram.com/p/CRIa029NZb6/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🥔 Summer is here, so to help everyone cool down from the hot days ahead, here's a literal bone-chilling fact for you hailing from the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan! ❄️ 🇯🇵 Yuki Onna (translates to Snow Woman in English) are yokai, mystical spirits from Japanese folklore, that are known to bring lost travelers in northern Japan during heavy snowstorms to their demise. Yuki Onna are described as very beautiful young women with long black hair, snow white skin and are usually wearing a white kimono or sometimes nude. When they walk through the snow, they leave no tracks. Their bodies are cold as ice. Yuki Onna will often wait by mountain roads for unsuspecting prey. They will try to allure men to let their guard down, but will pursue anyone of any gender. A Yuki Onna will freeze their prey using an icy breath and then drain their life essence, leaving them for dead. There have even been some stories of Yuki Onna breaking into houses in the mountains late at night freezing people in their sleep. Sometimes, Yuki Onna will fall in love with their prey and will letting them live or even marrying them. There was a story of a man who lived in the Yamagata prefecture of Japan that claimed to be married to a Yuki Onna. His wife would refuse to take baths. One night he insisted that she takes a bath, after much arguing she finally did and when her husband went to check on her, she turned into half-melted icicles. #3fp #yokai #japan #yukionna #folklore #spirits #snow https://www.instagram.com/p/CQjeaSptom0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🥔 Crystal balls are often associated with fortunetellers and similar clairvoyants, but when did they start using them? 🔮 According to all known written history about crystal balls, they were first used by Celtic Druids sometime around the 3rd century BCE. Druids would act as teachers, priests,or judges in Celtic society. Druids would often practice scrying by gazing into reflective surfaces like pools of water or shiny stones. Eventually, the Druids started to craft spheres made of glass or gemstones which would come to be known as the crystal ball. After the Romans took over the British isles in the 1st century CE, Druidic practices including crystal ball scrying, were heavily shunned as Christianity was becoming the dominant religion in that area. For the next several hundred years, crystal balls were seldom used. During the middle ages and early Renaissance eras, crystal balls were used as decor, but some would allegedly practice crystal scrying in secrecy from the church. Once the Renaissance era came about, crystal balls started making a resurgence. One of the most noteworthy instances of this was when John Dee, an advisor to Queen Elizabeth I, used an obsidian crystal ball to help the queen make important decisions for the kindgom. #3fp #crystalball #fortunetelling #celts #druids #clairvoyance https://www.instagram.com/p/CPai9AdN3RC/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy #3FPFactsFriday ! This fact brought to you by 🦊! You all have probably heard of Bigfoot (I hope 😂) and possibly many of the various other bipeds like them. Countries all over the world have reports of seeing bipedal hominids wandering around in the woods. One of my favorite sightings from the US is the Skunk Ape. Skunk apes are native to Florida and other southeast states. They live in the marshy swamp lands, which is why one of their many names is ‘Swamp Ape.’ The reason that they’re often called ‘Skunk Apes’ is because they are reported to have a very strong odor to them. Are you guys fans of the Skunk Ape? Let us know in the comments! 😄 #factfriday #bigfoot #bipeds #bigfoothunting #skunkape #swampape #florida #cryptids #cryptid #paranormal #cryptozoology #3fpfactsfriday #3fatesfactsfriday https://www.instagram.com/p/CPJSv4FtULl/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🥔 "IT WAS ALIENS MR. SHEFFIELD!" Most people know Betty and Barney Hill as being famous for experiencing an alien abduction, but what if I told you there was a TV celebrity that claimed she was abducted by aliens? 🤔❓ Fran Drescher, most well-known for her starring role in the hit 90s sitcom The Nanny, claimed that when she was a teenager that she was abducted by aliens. What makes this story more interesting is that she and her now ex-husband Marc Peter Jacobson both claimed to have very similar experiences with the aliens around the same time; however this was many years before Fran and Marc had even met. At the time of their abductions, they had both been in junior high school and they were both driving in cars with their fathers. They also both claimed they had chips implanted in their hands on the same spot, leaving very similar scars. Drescher believes that these chips had programmed her and her ex to meet years later. #3fp #aliens #abductions #thenanny #frandrescher https://www.instagram.com/p/CO31QOtthxl/?igshid=1xpan7qnd41ng

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🐻! This week I learned a new fact that I would like to share with you. I learned that there is an actual holiday for the paranormal. No.. I am not talking about Halloween, which is the holiday that most people associate with ghosts and spooky happenings. As it seems, there may be good reason that I and perhaps other people, were not aware of this holiday. Apparently, National Paranormal Day which occurs on the 3rd of May every year, did not actually come about until the year 2013. Paranormal Day was created in order to help give people some insight into the unknown and occurrences that can’t be explained through ”normal” activities. It is a day to focus on the hopes of learning about the universe with all its different dimensions and oddities. There are many unexplained things in our world ranging from UFO’s, Ghosts, Cryptids, etc., that captivate the minds of many of us interested in the paranormal. So, since 2013, there is actually a special day set aside for those people fascinated by the unknown to think about and celebrate all these strange and interesting topics. Who knew? I certainly did not. #paranormal #ghosts #paranormalday #nationalparanormalday #facts #factsfriday #3fpfactsfridays #3fatesfactfriday https://www.instagram.com/p/COl_e_uNM_K/?igshid=1u9f9n5lvzvr5

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday! Today’s fact is brought to you by 🐻! This week’s fact is about one of the oldest and well known haunts of the Hudson Valley in New York State. Many paranormal groups have checked out this particular establishment through the years and it is still popular today. The Shanley Hotel in Napanoch, NY, acquired its current name in 1905 when James Shanley acquired the property. It retains this name today although it was purchased in 2005 by Sal and Cindy Nicosia who immediately restored and decorated the crumbling hotel to its original beauty and reopened it for business. Shortly after reopening, paranormal experiences were reported in the building by guests. These activities included shadowy figures and feelings of strong presences, in addition to unexplained footsteps and voices when no one else was in or near the rooms. In recent years, as guests have ventured to stay at the Shanley Hotel there have been even more increased reports of paranormal activity. Strange occurrences like clocks chiming on the hour (when there are no chime clocks in the building), the smell of cigar smoke hanging in the air (but no one is smoking a cigar), feelings of being pushed by someone (as if someone is trying to get by), and people feeling disoriented and dizzy as if the floor is moving. These and many other paranormal activities continue to occur and attract people to the Shanley Hotel. In order to find out first hand what all the hoopla is about, why not take a road trip to Napanoch, NY, and check it out for yourself? . . . . . . #paranormal #ghosthunting #hauntedhudsonvalley #shanleyhotel #ghosts #paranormalactivity #paranormalactivity #haunted #hauntedplaces #hauntedhistory #hauntedtourism #hauntedny #ghoststories #ghoststory #3FPP #3fatesparanormal #ulstercountyny #napanochny #ShanleyHotel (at Shanley Hotel) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNuw9idrWyj/?igshid=q84pdwaa49cm

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday (on a Saturday) and #NationalUnicornDay (a day late) Today’s fact is brought to you by 🥔 Unicorns are one of the most well-known mythological creatures, appearing in a large amount of European folklore. Unicorns are generally described as horse like creatures, usually with white fur and a large horn protruding from their foreheads. Some are described as having a lion's tail and a goat's beard. The first known incarnation of the unicorn, was documented by Greek physician Ctesias while visiting India around 400 BCE. He described the creatures as large wild donkeys with dark-red heads, dark-blue eyes and a horn about a foot and a half long on their foreheads. The most notorious thing about unicorns is the healing properties of their horns. It is said if you drink from a unicorn horn or drink from a body of water touched by its horn, you will be cured of and protected from poison and some diseases. This started a trend of medieval merchants selling "unicorn horns" which were actually just rhinoceros horns or narwhal tusks. #3fp #unicorns #mythology #psudeoscience https://www.instagram.com/p/CNe7hjFrpSy/?igshid=50mlal97y8pp

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s late night fact is brought to you by 🐻! As many people are aware, the Hudson Valley is quite well known for its paranormal activity. Today’s fact involves a murder that occurred at the Cold Spring Train Depot in Cold Spring New York, a small town on the east side of the Hudson River about 50 miles north of NYC. Apparently, on a winter night in 1898, a woman in the town overheard her husband plotting to kill her. She immediately left and ran down to the Train Station located on Main Street. There was a train scheduled to leave at 10:15 pm for Poughkeepsie, NY. She sat on the bench nervously awaiting the train. But as luck (or lack of luck) would have it, her husband found her at 10:13 pm and stabbed her with a knife killing her before she could escape. The story went that if you sat on that bench (which has since been removed) at the depot, at 10:13 pm at night you would feel a cold chill pass over you. Some people have said that at times they have seen a shadowy image of a woman floating throughout the depot and one legend has been told by a night custodial person that after cleaning the toilets at the depot he would leave the seats up, but in the morning the seats would be down, indicating to him that the ghost of a woman may very well inhabit the depot. Today, the Cold Spring Depot is a Restaurant and Cafe. Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🐻! This past Friday, March 12, 2021 , marked the end of the life of Ronald DeFeo, Jr, at the age of 69. He died right here in Sullivan County at the Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburgh, NY. If his name does not ring any bells, I am sure the crime he committed will. His crime inspired the book and film versions of “ The Amityville Horror”. He was convicted in 1974 of murdering his entire family: mother, father, 2 sisters and 2 brothers, in their Amityville home on Long Island, in Suffolk County, NY. Ever since he comitted his gruesome crime, this beautiful home has gained the recognition of being one of the most haunted places in NY State. Approximately a year after this gruesome crime , another family moved into the house, but moved back out in less than a month. claiming the house was haunted and describing paranormal activities such as visions and awful smells., as well as creepy feelings. The house has had five other families take a shot at living in it. None have lasted very long. The most recent purchase was in 2017 for $200,000 less than the asking price to an undisclosed owner. #factfriday #facts #spooky #paranormal #amityville #amityvillehorror #amityvillehouse #factsfriday #factoftheday #spookyfacts #hauntedhouses #haunted #ghosts #ghoststories https://www.instagram.com/p/CMnlRtGBvNO/?igshid=1re9qmurylcdm

Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🐻! This week I am giving you a post pandemic travel idea. 🌴 How about a trip to the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum in Florida? This is not only a beautiful and historical place to visit but it is also believed by many to be haunted. Apparently, on July 10, 1873, a tragic accident happened at the site. Hezekiah Pittee was hired to oversee the construction on a new Saint Augustine lighthouse tower after the erosion and destruction of the previous Tower. He and his family moved to the site while he was Superintendent of the Lighthouse Construction. Supplies were brought in by ship to build the new tower. A railway cart moved the supplies from the water to the site. Riding the cart down to the water as a Victorian era roller coaster was a favorite activity of the children of the workers who worked on the tower. One day a tragic accident happened and the cart flipped over into the water trapping the children inside under the water. Three little girls died that day including two from the Pittee family. It is believed that these children haunt the tower and surrounding grounds. Visitors have heard children giggling when touring the tower and basement areas. Some tourists have even reported seeing apparitions of little girls sitting on park benches or standing in parts of the tower. For a post pandemic trip why not go check out this story and other reported haunted activity at this historical landmark for yourself? Happy #3FatesFactsFriday! Today’s fact is brought to you by 🐝! Today I’m going to share a little local history with you all as this is an infamous story from right here in the #HauntedHudsonValley. George Markert was an incredibly successful farm worker in the area that was accused by his brother-in-law of having put a curse upon his brother-in-laws’ farm as it was not prospering in the same way as his own. His brother-in-law, Adam Heidt, accused George of everything from causing his cows to run dry to the man bewitching him any time he did something in a succession of three around him. This ill-will between the men quickly turned to a murder plot when Heidt demanded Markert remove the supposed curse after meeting at a local tavern. When Markert refused, claiming he never placed a curse in the first place, he quickly left the tavern to head home. However, this would turn to be a deadly mistake when he was followed by Adam Heidt who met up with his son, Joseph Heidt, upon the majestic Stone Arch Bridge in Kenoza Lake. It is upon this tri-arched bridge the two would proceed to kill Markert choosing this spot as warlocks were believed to be powerless above running water. Unfortunately, this is where the story gets even more gruesome. Heidt believed that the only way to thoroughly detroy the curse Markert had placed upon his farm and berid himself of his brother-in-law’s evil for good was to murder him utilizing three different methods. The two Heidts stabbed, shot, and beat Markert to death upon the Stone Arch Bridge before tossing his body over the bridge into the frozen waters of the Callicoon Creek below. However, the saddest part of this story is the lack of justice for George Markert as Adam Heidt was acquitted and sent to Middletown’s insane asylum and Joseph served less than two decades in prison before being released back into the real world. Perhaps this very lack of justice is the reason so many residents of the county claim to see the ghost of George Markert still wandering the bridge searching for help on cold January nights. 👻 #3FPP #Ghoststories #RealGhostStories #Paranormal #ParanormalActivity #HudsonValley #HauntedNY #Goth #Haunted #Witchcraft https://www.instagram.com/p/CKWZB5Fsesk/?igshid=lmued51whzxy
