The (International) Day of Acceptance is a valuable social entrepreneurial awareness experiment with a heart-warming back-story. Annie Hopkins founded 3E Love to make the world a better place, also creating the International Symbol of Acceptance, which shows a wheelchair in the shape of a heart. Together, the occasion and the symbol communicate the 3E Love ethos of devotion, equality, respect and understanding, to be adopted and appreciated by people of all abilities. Disability owned and operated, 3E Love works to empower people through pride and passion, rather than charity. Taking control, following our dreams and being the best we can, regardless of physical factors, makes us what we are, and Annie’s goal to share this with as many people as possible has proved a source of inspiration all across the world. On January 20th 2009, Annie passed away due to unexpected complications during a simple medical procedure. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her friends and family, and it also lives on in the heart of the International Symbol of Acceptance. Annie’s brother, Stevie Hopkins, who helped her start 3E Love, paid tribute to his sister’s selfless efforts and vowed to keep them alive. On the first anniversary of Annie’s passing, Stevie and family founded an annual celebration of her life and work, inviting everyone to take part in a variety of ways, from drawing the symbol on your hand or cheek, to ordering buttons and T-shirts from the website, or simply changing your social media profile pictures to the logo for the day. To quote 3E Love: “Friends, tell the world you embrace who you are; a person with social rights, who has an opinion, who has interests, who has goals and who loves life; a person who is empowered to make a difference in the world and not be without a voice in society. You are not living disabled, you are living.” The Days of the Year team will be changing their Facebook profile pictures for January 20th 2014, and we hope that you’ll join us in helping to spread the word and pay tribute to a wonderful girl and her incredible philosophy. #3elove #racketoftheday #custommade #tennisracket #breakthetie (em DAHCOR) https://www.instagram.com/p/CY8gcuWgMJx/?utm_medium=tumblr

A lot of people don’t know what occupational therapy is. That’s because we do so much! One thing we do is facilitate individuals to participate in meaningful activities. Here’s one example.
This is Christine: a passionate advocate for augmentative communication devices with a big heart. She loves the 3e love heart wheelchair logo, as their mission is to change the perception of disability.
Christine also loves RAD camp, a week long summer camp for adults and children with disabilities. They have a variety of classes and activities throughout the day, including art class. Some of the art projects are personalizing projects and adding that bit of individual flair.
Even though I was not participating in camp as an occupational therapist, my brain has a difficult time looking at the world through any other lens. As an OT, I look at the activity and break down the requirements needed in order to be successful. I assess the person’s abilities and find compensatory strategies or assistive devices that can help achieve the goal of creating a meaningful camp artifact that reflects her personality and highlights her ability.
Christine and I worked together to design a stencil that she could use for multiple projects. I took a piece of construction paper, covered it in clear packing tape for stability and washability, and made a wheelchair heart logo stencil. We problem-solved the rest of the task together, so that she would be the one creating the art. We used the stencil all week long to decorate art and journal projects.
I love occupational therapy because we create solutions for everyday life!

i haven't actually seen the question list but prime numbers! -Eevee
2: Shoe size
Girl’s size 4 or a women’s 5-6 or a boy’s size 3
3: Do you smoke?
Um no…never have, never will! My body malfunctions enough on it’s own without help from substances that I know are noxious to my body
5: Do you take drugs?
Pharmaceuticals prescribed to me? Yes! Many! Steroids, thyroid meds, antidepressants, antiepileptics, sleep meds, anti anxiety meds, hormones, allergy meds (I’m allergic to cats and have 4 lol) and I get a few pain meds a day (but not near enough!)
Recreational drugs? Nope. I mean I did try medical grade edibles a few times because I thought it might be a good treatment for my chronic pain and chronic nausea and anorexia (lack of appetite not the ED) but alas, I am very allergic and it throws me into status epilepticus which is when you have a continuous seizure or multiple seizures back to back which is very dangerous. I’ve tried it a few times because I just thought it was a coincidence that I had a SE attack after having a MMJ lollipop but it happened again with a brownie and then again when my Dr tried to put me on the THC pill (Marinol/Cesamet)
7: Have tattoos?
I have 5.
My first tattoo is a charm bracelet on my right wrist, it is a purple ribbon (the significance is that it is the awareness colour for epilepsy, fibromyalgia and lupus) with charms off of it. The charms are: (click link for more info)
The L’Arche Federation Logo (x)
The Magic Foundation Logo (x)
A Spoon representing the Spoon Theory (x)
The 3ELove Logo that hopes to change the perception of disability (x)
And A Celtic Cross
My second tattoo is a pink butterfly on the inside of my left wrist, but instead of the regular body, it has a semicolon in the middle (to read about the semicolon project click here!)
I got my Third and Fourth tattoo at the same time.
Right upper arm: I have a holocaust memorial tattoo for the gay people who were imprisoned and killed, it has the point down pink triangle that gay people were required to wear (in addition to the star of David if they were Jewish) along with the German words Totgeschlagen (Struck Dead) along the top of the triangle, Totgeschwiegen (Hushed Up) along the left side of the Triangle and the word Remembered on the Right side. More info here
I have an infinity symbol behind my left ear but it has a pair of Harry Potter glasses and his scar like this one here
My Fifth tattoo is a matching one I got with my cousin, it is a heart with an infinity symbol across it, each of the spaces is coloured in with one of the colours of the rainbow but not coloured completely to the edge, underneath is the word OHANA (which means family and no one gets left behind) it has a double meaning for me, it’s a declaration of the strong bond I have with my cousin who is more like a sister to me and it’s a memorial tattoo to remember my friend Eddie who died at the Pulse Shooting.
11: Best friend?
I have been blessed with several!
Nadine My cousin mentioned above
Carolyn (aka Sissy) who I’ve known since kindergarten
Jackie who I met through a friend about 15 years ago
Stef, Tracy and his husband Russell whom I met at work
Sarah, who I met on facebook and went on a cruise with twice
13: Biggest turn ons
I am asexual so I don’t really get “turned on” per se but I am attracted to people who are kind, intelligent, funny, unique, unafraid to be themselves and passionate about their interests. I am a fan of looking at beautiful people and their asses though. Lol
17: Someone you miss
My friend Marshelle and her daughter (my mini-me) Em
19: A fact about your personality
I have a really bad temper, I have learned how to not act on it but it still rears it’s ugly head now and again.
23: My relationship with my sibling(s)
Meh, they’re alright
29: A reason I’ve lied to a friend
I can’t really lie, at least not well so I can’t remember of any incidences
31: What my last text message says
The goat is hatless, I repeat, the goat has no hat in his kayak (don’t ask)
37: One of my insecurities
Um…..only one? Not a huge fan of my body all the time
41: Where I want to be right now
Hanging out with friends, somewhere warm would be lovely.
43: Sexiest person that comes to my mind immediately
The only person I would classify as sexy is Mandy Moore
Thanks for asking!
Love and Glitter,
Remény

Today is the national day of acceptance and it is an important day for me. When I look back on life and think about how I have managed to push on and accomplish everything that I have I really feel the importance of acceptance. I’ve went to MDA Summer Camp, I’ve went to support groups and heard the other sides of disabled lives. I believe that the greatest thing that could have ever happen to me was growing up in a small rural community in Knox/Fulton County. Acceptance was all around me. In fact, I never really felt different. Of course I knew i was and I knew there would always be blatant barriers to the “normal” life. However, the difference was fundamental in my development. I was never treated any different, because of this I never had an internal stigma about anything. I was free to be me. Growing up is hard enough in those awkward teens and because of the accepting community I felt just like one of the other kids trying to find themselves. In those years I came into myself and I set out to make my own “normal”. That is what acceptance really does for someone. It allows someone with a disability the freedom of express themselves and create the life of their dreams. In my case there was an emphasis on create. I built a company around my vision to make the world a brighter place. Business is rough, life is hard, and of course I always will have fleeting moments where I wish I could go hike or swim on that hot summer day, but because I have been empowered to live life as I can, I do not dwell on what is missing, I live every second to the fullest. Disabled or not, life is what we make it. 3E Love spreads the culture of acceptance and love. When a person feels those things it unleashes something truly remarkable inside of them. It fuels the passion and builds the courage to create the perfect life to live and to share. I live to share this beautiful life with my amazing girlfriend who is a radiant symbol of the power of acceptance and love. Give me a hand and help me embrace educate and empower #3elove #dayofacceptance http://ift.tt/2iTgXth
