One week ago today, in Clemson, South Carolina, Major George Mitchell (Ret) received his purple heart for an injury received during WWII. Why so late? He didn’t want to tell his Mom that he’d been injured, which would have been an automatic notification for Purple Hearts. Mitchell is 93, and his award came 72 years and 5 months after his injury.
