My town is like population 13 and covered in a foot of snow right now no outside library would survive! There is a city 30 min away but I only go there every 15 days or so for food and getting rid of trash [which is where I found my awesome new books].
There are a huge amount of gems inside the boxes it really is only a few that make me go "what was this person thinking?"
One of the ones that struck me as bad from the description was Cum Laude by Cecily von Ziegesar the description makes it seem all about "sex sex sex look at all the sex I'm having because I'm in College" but who knows it might shock me when I do end up trying it out.
The latest book I finished from the box was Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut and it was AMAZING never read anything of Vonnegut's before but I'll be reading more now, especially because there are 2 others of his inside the boxes!
I'm only like a few chapters in but what I'm reading right this moment is The Rainmaker by John Grisham! Him I have read, both The Client & A Time To Kill and I liked him good enough. [ Like I enjoyed The Lincoln Lawyer series by Michael Connelly better to scratch my lawyer book itch but what I have read of Grisham was good!]
My favorite type of book is such trash taste, it is: normal Cop/FBI dude catching pedos/ murders/ rapists, him finding a new GF every book and losing her somehow, Sometimes add a fun twist on the formula like he has picture perfect memory or something. POV chapters where we are following the criminals make it even better.
Sci-fi takes up a big part of my shelf too
I also like Manga because I was banned from reading it when I was a kid because "She will start reading everything backwards if we let her read that" then it was "You are too old for books with pictures". But its small collection because its hard to buy something you will finish in a hour or so when for the same price you could buy 2 "real" books.
Its so nice you have a bookworm friend no matter their age!
Do you mind that I ask what the last thing you read! And what your reading right now! Sorry for long ask!
I don't mind the long ask at all! Love talking books with others. Glad you found some nice ones in there, though that one by Ziegesar makes me go 😬 lol. I just looked up "The Rainmaker" and that looks like an interesting read. Maybe I'll add it to my list.
Def don't think your taste is "trash." In fact, I've got a rec that might fit the criteria you listed! Check out "The Water Keeper" by Charles Martin. It's about a super skilled spy who specializes in tracking down missing people/young girls who are being trafficked. He comes across a woman who is searching for her daughter and takes on the case. It is super intense and filled with drama (a little dark and hard to read at times, though) and there's a romance subplot that develops along the way. I enjoyed it. There's a second book as well, but I haven't read that one yet.
As for the last thing I read (though it was an audiobook so idk if it counts haha), that was "If It Rains" by Jennifer L. Wright. Gonna be honest: I wasn't super into it. And I'm currently reading "Spill Simmer Falter Wither" by Sara Baume. Only a few pages in, so I can't speak to if it's any good, but it got great reviews, and I've heard it's beautiful and very heartbreaking. It's the story of the relationship between a lonely man and his dog, so I can see it reducing me to a sobbing mess at some point.
Thanks for the ask!
