I love y'all but you can get so toxic sometimes. The whole SatoSugu lovers or friends battle is just ridiculous. At first I thought it was because of the cultural and linguistic differences (I still think they're at play), but recently I've been contemplating how Gege perfectly captured the messiness and intensity of teenage friendships. I'm still amused at how I missed it at first, considering that the dynamic reminds me so much of my own teenage best friend. Our relationship resembled that of a romantic couple with all intense feelings, intimacy and jealousy, but never was or could be romantic or sexual. Like Geto did to Gojo, she exited my life so abruptly, I was left aching for years (I still think I do). I cried listening to songs that many would consider romantic because they reminded me of her. I still keep dresses that she gifted me as a reminder of what we once had. I don't think the problem is in romanticising friendship but rather in downplaying the impact it has on one's life and the amount of love that can be fitted in there without ever wanting or needing to be carnal. The problem is that people tend to root themselves into certain positions and forget that there are countless nuances in between. In the end it's still fiction and its purpose is to entertain us and not to stir bloodshed. Be kind.

It's criminal how when it comes to gojo sensei content the fandom mostly talk about the 1st year trio when those guys barely had him as teacher (except megumi).
It was the 2nd year trio who spent more time with him, saw him through his geto one and only phase. Pretty sure judged his taste but accepted it nonetheless. They judge him but also are the one's ready to take up the mantal after he left. Even in 261 we see them ready to kill higher ups for gojo and telling him to not take it alone anymore (thou it was yuta who voiced it but they were there nonetheless ready to commit atrocities for their sensei).
So to me they were more of Gojo sensei students than 1st year again ( bar megumi he was og one ) and I want more of fandom to acknowledge it and create more content on it.

Sometimes I wonder to myself, what did Yuta hear from Miguel about Geto, seeing as they were from the same “family”/group/cult/side. They did train together for a few months in Africa.
Headcanon/Speculation post under the cut:
After events in jjk 0, considering how hurt his friends were, and Geto’s motives that would’ve been at the expense of his life, I wonder if he ever changed his mind about Geto or even warmed up to the idea of him as a person. I mean, he ended up being friends with (or should I say, student of?) Miguel and also Gojo? People whom we can safely say were close to Geto.
Nevertheless, he looked past that and in the Culling Games, he put his respect for his sensei (Gojo) above any personal feelings he might’ve had for Geto. Still pictures Geto like an evil dude though, LOL.
So Yuta expresses his desire to spare his sensei from killing his best friend again.
At some point, he must have deduced that Geto was the one who Gojo was referring to in jjk 0. He was perceptive - below are snaps of the light novel translations and the manga. What does Yuta surmise from this?
At some point, Yuta seems to have a strong idea that Geto is someone really irreplaceable Gojo, even if he personally cannot relate; hence, I guess, still viewing Geto as a villain. Yuta also encapsulates a philosophy surrounding friendship and empathy:
There is no confirmation to my knowledge of what happened to Geto’s body that allowed Kenjaku to inhabit it. All we know is that Shoko wasn’t given his body for a proper... processing, and that it could either be to spare her, or spare Gojo’s feelings or thoughts about what Geto would’ve wanted, I’m inclined to believe the latter is more probable. Because Geto’s principles were self-sacrificing as such: for his family to escape - even if it meant HE DIED as the cult leader, that their safety was his main priority. He was kind (albeit selectively). And I guess his legacy could go on - somehow. I don’t think he cared too much about himself.
Anyway, Gojo’s returning of the body to Geto’s family may be what he opted for: as these people were important to Geto, they are therefore important to him. This may have put him in contact with Miguel, and led to Yuta training under him too.
But this is all speculation on my part. Yuta does have a very strong sense of comradeship/kinship and it is no surprise he thinks like this, whether or not Gojo had a part in shaping this. Nevertheless, it seems clear that he has an understanding of what Geto meant to Gojo.
This is partly light-hearted, but whatever Yuta concluded, Gojo isn’t likely to have a girlfriend (LOL).
Miguel doesn’t want to see Gojo for some reason (LOL) was he a bit traumatised from the battle? Or was it also to do with Geto being killed by his hand? Oh, to be a literary fly on the wall within the series to hear all these conversations!
And just side-stepping here:
Gojo has been trying to adopt these to/be-executed kids to change the world, hasn’t he? Gojo carries on his trial-and-error form of delivering a form of justice (in a much much more pardonable/acceptable and measured way compared to Geto), delaying execution orders for people whom he takes on as students. But this is also quite typical of Yin and Yang energy they each represent which I’m in midst of gathering my thoughts about… for another post.
I think we can speculate easily that he was seeing if there could ever be an opportunity for Geto to “come back home” to their side. He tolerated a lot; both parties thinking of each other like a game of cat and mouse where the cat permits and allows the mouse some ground to wander, until lines are crossed and his hand is forced.
Satosugu dynamics and their shared goals and their yin&yang and how much they needed each other... brainnnnrotttt...
Anyway, this is kinda all over the place but I wanted to add this nugget too:
The panel is referring to playful cloud. At first glance, it read to me as if Gojo saw cautioning Megumi because it was a precious item. It sounded like a threat: don’t you dare lose it. In Japanese, there is also emphasis on “absoluutely don’t (lose it)”. Of course Gojo lightens the mood with making it about a monetary thing (which is comparatively safe territory) rather than giving other reasons why.
I like to think he was a bit sentimental, but also happy to share this tool with his precious students, knowing that the shared memory within this object can also help make them stronger. Much to maki’s distaste though, lol. It was the last tool that Geto had used, and was now in his possession. He was happy for making to use it; despite her reservations over it, but her emotions may encourage her to become skilled at it. As Gojo says, tough love!
And Yuta’s ID - the last thing Geto gave him (aside from his life - ouch).
I wonder how long it took him to return it? By this time, Yuta has a new uniform that is now not a special grade (but it apparently just takes him 3 months to get promoted again).
In my mind, it seems clear that Yuta was perceptive enough or was told by others / heard from people around him about Geto and the relationship he shared with Gojo. He respected his sensei enough to share the sentimentality over his relationship, and from a reader’s perspective, there are so many parallels in jjk 0 that are impossible to ignore.
Anyway, as I’m writing this, there are so many things popping into my head, it’s no wonder fans call this obsession BRAINROT.
I hope this post made for an interesting read, even if some of it becomes repetitive if you consume a lot of what many other writers put out there! I can only hope I have some of their talents in articulation.

genuinely irritating how this fandom erases yuuji’s weird/ “offputting” traits. like sure, he’s upbeat, cute and social.
but he isn’t as innocent as everyone here paints him to be.
he’s into pretty gory stuff, isnt scared or disgusted by curses even from the initial start, unlike other commoners. gojo describes him as “a bit crazy” and he’s definitely right.
he went gambling despite being underage, uses vulgar speech, he does pretty unsanitary things and literally cannibalizes including fingers of an ancient corpse?
when his friends talk about toge’s struggle as a cursed speech user because he could easily kill someone by accident, he calls it “cool”. he can be very violent and unforgiving if he’s angered etc. etc.
he’s good natured and goofy and naive sometimes, but he’s far from being pure or innocent.

there is something so damn satisfying about the face physics when Gojo and Yuta are swapped.
like you know very well Gojo is currently occupying Yuta's body because he gives some sort of edge to his facial expressions. meanwhile Yuta softens Gojo's facial expressions.
not to mention those edits of Sukuna without his face markings. you'd think he'd just be Yuji under that but it's a whole different character; a whole different aura.
i just really love it.

JJK 266 & Megumi's Childhood
i wanted to talk about megumi and his childhood for a bit, and how it ties into what happened in the most recent chapter, specifically the reasoning behind why yuuji's "i'm so lonely without you, fushiguro" was so moving for him.
i sincerely believe that everything about megumi and the way he acts can be traced back to being abandoned as a child, and i have a lot to say about this that doesn't pertain to this chapter, but that's for another post. for now, i want to talk about the logic megumi adopted to explain why he'd been left behind as a child, and how that carries through to 266.
the elephant in the room first: this is not a safe space to defend toji. you can say whatever you want about him "loving megumi," but it doesn't change the fact that he wasn't a good father, and he was never around for megumi. he gave megumi the first of many wounds, the one that megumi built his whole sense of self around.
what brought this up for me is this line that megumi shares to yuuji after yuuji has made contact with his soul in 266.
i've already talked a bit about how i don't think this should be taken literally (you can read my full thoughts here), but to paraphrase: megumi isn't saying they are literally walking side by side, rather that he holds them to the same level in his mind, and he wants to see them achieve peace and happiness. it's also implied by the "seeing off" part that he is standing back and watching this happen. he isn't a part of said peace
in that post, i touched on the way megumi is always willing to shoulder the burden of being a "bad" person when it comes to tsumiki and yuuji, and how that relates to this line, but for the sake of this post, i specifically want to draw the comparison between this line, and what megumi says to gojo in ch79 when talking about his dad.
he assumes that when toji and tsumiki's mom leave them behind, it's because they're going on to live a happier life without the kids. he adopts this mindset at a very young age, and with the previously mentioned line, we can see how it's carried through until now.
megumi has internalized the idea that he's nothing but burden that drags other people down. his young mind couldn't come up with any other explanation. he thinks he's the dead weight that's been cut in order for toji and tsumiki's mom to achieve happiness, so he believes that no one can be happy as long as he's around.
he also comes to accept that he will always inevitably be left behind. he assumes that everyone will outgrow him and move onto something better, so he lives in anticipation that he will be abandoned again eventually, hence, it is natural for him to envision the two people that matter the most to him needing to leave him behind to achieve happiness.
enter: yuuji.
he basically outright rejects the idea that he would be happier without megumi around. he tells megumi directly, "no, i'd be lonely without you." and he says this to child megumi, the one who only knew the feeling of being left behind and the idea that everyone else would be happier without him.
this is what pushes megumi to finally fight back, because he realizes his life actually is worth something to someone. he sees that him being gone won't make the people (or uh. singular remaining person) he cares about happy.
