Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #13
April 5-12 2024
President Biden announced the cancellation of a student loan debt for a further 277,000 Americans. This brings the number of a Americans who had their debt canceled by the Biden administration through different means since the Supreme Court struck down Biden's first place in 2023 to 4.3 million and a total of $153 billion of debt canceled so far. Most of these borrowers were a part of the President's SAVE Plan, a debt repayment program with 8 million enrollees, over 4 million of whom don't have to make monthly repayments and are still on the path to debt forgiveness.
President Biden announced a plan that would cancel student loan debt for 4 million borrowers and bring debt relief to 30 million Americans The plan takes steps like making automatic debt forgiveness through the public service forgiveness so qualified borrowers who don't know to apply will have their debts forgiven. The plan will wipe out the interest on the debt of 23 million Americans. President Biden touted how the plan will help black and Latino borrowers the most who carry the heavily debt burdens. The plan is expected to go into effect this fall ahead of the election.
President Biden and Vice-President Harris announced the closing of the so-called gun show loophole. For years people selling guns outside of traditional stores, such as at gun shows and in the 21st century over the internet have not been required to preform a background check to see if buyers are legally allowed to own a fire arm. Now all sellers of guns, even over the internet, are required to be licensed and preform a background check. This is the largest single expansion of the background check system since its creation.
The EPA published the first ever regulations on PFAS, known as forever chemicals, in drinking water. The new rules would reduce PFAS exposure for 100 million people according to the EPA. The Biden Administration announced along side the EPA regulations it would make available $1 billion dollars for state and local water treatment to help test for and filter out PFAS in line with the new rule. This marks the first time since 1996 that the EPA has passed a drinking water rule for new contaminants.
The Department of Commerce announced a deal with microchip giant TSMC to bring billions in investment and manufacturing to Arizona. The US makes only about 10% of the world's microchips and none of the most advanced chips. Under the CHIPS and Science Act the Biden Administration hopes to expand America's high-tech manufacturing so that 20% of advanced chips are made in America. TSMC makes about 90% of the world's advanced chips. The deal which sees a $6.6 billion dollar grant from the US government in exchange for $65 billion worth of investment by TSMC in 3 high tech manufacturing facilities in Arizona, the first of which will open next year. This represents the single largest foreign investment in Arizona's history and will bring thousands of new jobs to the state and boost America's microchip manufacturing.
The EPA finalized rules strengthening clean air standards around chemical plants. The new rule will lower the risk of cancer in communities near chemical plants by 96% and eliminate 6,200 tons of toxic air pollution each year. The rules target two dangerous cancer causing chemicals, ethylene oxide and chloroprene, the rule will reduce emissions of these chemicals by 80%.
the Department of the Interior announced it had beaten the Biden Administration goals when it comes to new clean energy projects. The Department has now permitted more than 25 gigawatts of clean energy projects on public lands, surpass the Administrations goal for 2025 already. These solar, wind, and hydro projects will power 12 million American homes with totally green power. Currently 10 gigawatts of clean energy are currently being generated on public lands, powering more than 5 million homes across the West.
The Department of Transportation announced $830 million to support local communities in becoming more climate resilient. The money will go to 80 projects across 37 states, DC, and the US Virgin Islands The projects will help local Infrastructure better stand up to extreme weather causes by climate change.
The Senate confirmed Susan Bazis, Robert White, and Ann Marie McIff Allen to lifetime federal judgeships in Nebraska, Michigan, and Utah respectively. This brings the total number of judges appointed by President Biden to 193

When I saw this set, I wanted to convert it on the spot, and when I looked at Arsil's mod, it would just be an OBJK change, so, super doable :)
Both ice cream stations are floating on counter height - I tried to make them fit a large slot at first, but it made both the seller NPC and the buyer sim float in the air. That said, put the station first, then the counters - even without placement flags, they can go over surfaces without reason, as Arsil also warned about at MTS. No need to use moveobjects on, though.
This time, only the sandwichboard and the wall sign (not the poster) are recolorable. There's really no reason for the other objects to be :P

So, what is regenerative agriculture?
Regenerative agriculture is a way of farming that focuses on soil health. When soil is healthy, it produces more food and nutrition, stores more carbon and increases biodiversity – the variety of species. Healthy soil supports other water, land and air environments and ecosystems through natural processes including water drainage and pollination – the fertilization of plants.
Regenerative agriculture is a defining term for sustainability in our food system - while there is no one true definition of regenerative agriculture, the concept has been around for centuries, taking root in Indigenous growing practices. Regenerative approaches can bolster soil health and watershed health. They can also add to climate mitigation and potentially tie into regulatory or commercial incentives for a more sustainable diet.
Regenerative farming methods include minimizing the ploughing of land. This keeps CO2 in the soil, improves its water absorbency and leaves vital fungal communities in the earth undisturbed.
Rotating crops to vary the types of crop planted improves biodiversity, while using animal manure and compost helps to return nutrients to the soil.
Continuously grazing animals on the same piece of land can also degrade soil, explains the Regenerative agriculture in Europe report from the European Academies’ Science Advisory Council. So regenerative agriculture methods include moving grazing animals to different pastures.
How can it help?
Regenerative farming can improve crop yields – the volume of crops produced – by improving the health of soil and its ability to retain water, as well as reducing soil erosion. If regenerative farming was implemented in Africa, crop yields could rise 13% by 2040 and up to 40% in the future, according to a Regenerative Farming in Africa report by conservation organization the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the UN.
Regenerative farming can also reduce emissions from agriculture and turn the croplands and pastures, which cover up to 40% of Earth’s ice-free land area, into carbon sinks. These are environments that naturally absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, according to climate solutions organization Project Drawdown.
5 ways to scale regenerative agriculture:
1. Agree on common metrics for environmental outcomes. Today, there are many disparate efforts to define and measure environmental outcomes. We must move to a set of metrics adopted by the whole food industry, making it easier for farmers to adjust their practices and for positive changes to be rewarded. 2. Build farmers’ income from environmental outcomes such as carbon reduction and removal. We need a well-functioning market with a credible system of payments for environmental outcomes, trusted by buyers and sellers, that creates a new, durable, income stream for farmers. 3. Create mechanisms to share the cost of transition with farmers. Today, all the risk and cost sits with the farmers. 4. Ensure government policy enables and rewards farmers for transition. Too many government policies are in fact supporting the status quo of farming. The food sector must come together and work jointly with regulators to address this. 5. Develop new sourcing models to spread the cost of transition. We must move from sourcing models that take crops from anywhere to models that involve collaboration between off-takers from different sectors to take crops from areas converting to regenerative farming.
The rise of regenerative agriculture
In 2019, General Mills, the manufacturer of Cheerios, Yoplait and Annie’s Mac and Cheese (among other products), announced it would begin sourcing a portion of its corn, wheat, dairy and sugar from farmers who were engaged in regenerative agriculture practices and committed to advancing the practice of regenerative agriculture on one million acres of land by 2030. In early 2020, Whole Foods announced regenerative agriculture would be the No. 1 food trend and, in spite of the pandemic and the rapid growth of online shopping overshadowing the trend, business interest in the field still spiked by 138%.
More recently, PepsiCo announced it was adopting regenerative agriculture practices among 7 million acres of its farmland. Cargill declared it intends to do the same on 10 million acres by 2030, and Walmart has committed to advancing the practice on 50 million acres. Other companies pursuing regenerative agriculture include Danone, Unilever, Hormel, Target and Land O’ Lakes.
According to Nielsen, 75% of millennials are altering their buying habits with the environment in mind. This sentiment, of course, does not always materialize into tangible actions on behalf of every consumer. However, it is clear from the actions of PepsiCo, General Mills, Walmart, Unilever and others that they believe consumers’ expectations of what is environmentally friendly are shifting and that they will soon be looking to purchase regeneratively-produced foods because of the many benefits they produce.
The next step in the transition to regenerative agriculture is certification. The goal is to create labeling that will allow the consumer to connect to the full suite of their values. Some companies are partnering with nonprofit conveners and certifiers. The Savory Institute is one such partner, convening producers and brands around regenerative agriculture and more holistic land management practices.
In 2020, the Savory Institute granted its first “Ecological OutCome Verification (EOV) seal to Epic’s latest high protein bars by certifying that its featured beef was raised with regenerative agriculture practices.
The program was developed to let the land speak for itself by showing improvement through both leading and lagging functions such as plant diversity and water holding capacity. There are now thousands of products that have been Land to Market verified, with over 80 brand partnerships with companies such as Epic Provisions, Eileen Fisher and Applegate. Daily Harvest is giving growers in that space three-year contracts as well as markets and price premiums for the transitional crop. It's focusing on that transitional organic process as a stepping stone toward a regenerative organic food system.
Daily Harvest’s Almond Project creates an alliance with the Savory Institute and a group of stakeholders - including Simple Mills and Cappello’s - to bring regenerative practices to almonds in the Central Valley of California.
These companies are working with Treehouse California Almonds, their shared almond supplier, to lead soil health research on 160 acres of farmland. Over five years, the Project will focus on measuring outcomes around the ecosystem and soil health of regenerative practices – comparing those side by side with neighboring conventional baselines.
“We need industry partnership; we need pre-competitive collaboration,” says Rebecca Gildiner, Director of Sustainability at Daily Harvest, of the Almond Project. “Sustainability cannot be competitive. We are all sharing suppliers, we are all sharing supply – rising tides truly lift all boats. The industry has to understand our responsibility in investing, where historically investments have disproportionately focused on yields with a sole focus of feeding the world. We know this has been critical in the past but it has overlooked other forms of capital, other than financial. We need to look towards experimenting in holistic systems that have other outcomes than yield and profit - instead of saying organic can’t feed the world, we have to invest in figuring out how organic can feed the world because it’s critical.”

We, of course, have a way to go, but it seems from the data that I’ve gathered, that regenerative agriculture is, in fact, on the rise. Demand is rising, and many are working on ways to globalize those methods.

Any tenno out there that uses trade to get their platinum, care to share their tips for large inventory management as a seller?
See, I come from the land of auction houses. You list the thing in there, you wait, and in a few days or hours you get the money in your inbox. A quiet, hassle-free experience for the less socially-apt.
But Warframe is a profoundly social game. It’s built around community and you have to talk to people to trade things. No use arguing against that, it is what it is.
Now. I have a lot of items that I could trade (prime parts, mods and whatnot), but the sole thought of putting the items on the market page and instantly receiving 100s of whispers from different buyers really stresses me out. I tried it a year ago and after the 10th trade I was so exhausted that I never did it again. I was receiving, like, 3 messages per minute from people wanting to buy different things (and I have to double check the items' names every time since my game is in spanish and the market message is in english, so yeah, it is a very nerve-wracking process).
The biggest put off for me is that trade is incompatible with actually playing the game. Whenever you want to trade, you have to log in and sit in front of your computer screen doing nothing but waiting for messages. Because if you receive one and don't answer in 2 seconds or less, you lost the buyer. The fact that I have to literally set a time to play sell things to people one-on-one instead of playing a game is shocking to me.
So, yeah, if you have any tips on how to manage trading dozens of items without losing your mind, I'd love to hear them.

Hi dear,
Yes, read thru this post, this one and this one, and this tag - they all have a lot of important info for sellers and buyers!
Beyond those tips, here are other things to keep in mind:
Don't be shy about asking bigger accounts/UAs to post your ticket, most are happy to do so.
Make sure you know when your ticket can be transferred, if transfers aren't yet available, and be clear about that to whoever is interested in the ticket.
Don't be rude/aggressive
Trust your gut, if someone is being sketchy be careful
As a seller, you have most of the power, and the buyer is the one taking the bigger risk, so just be nice, clear, and to the point - if they suggest something you aren't comfortable with, clearly communicate your terms, just be kind.
Be careful with trades. Since there's no monetary exchange, a lot of scammers say they'll trade tickets, but then never send you theirs.
The way the sales work if you're selling directly to the fan is essentially in 2 parts. One is the ticket transfer, and the other the monetary exchange. They happen in separate platforms.
For the monetary $$ exchange:
They will need your PayPal email address in order to send you the money - make sure it's the correct one, and the spelling is correct!
You may need their PayPal email address - make sure it's the correct one, and the spelling is correct!
I recommend always using PayPal Goods & Services - it's the only way you and the buyer have any sort of protection on the purchase.
Sometimes PayPal withholds funds for 1-3 business days, or releases funds in increments over the span of weeks. They may also block your/the buyer's account if you/them have not used it recently, so make sure the account is in order and working well.
For the ticket transfer:
You will need their Ticketmaster (or AXS or Live Nation) email address. Make sure it's the correct one, and the spelling is correct!
How to transfer the tickets to the buyer:
Go to the Ticketmaster app/website, find the ticket(s) you need to send them, and click Transfer. It will prompt you to write their email address, click confirm, and send. Ticketmaster will then email the buyer the ticket transfer. The buyer has to go to the email and click accept. At this point the transfer will be complete and your ticket will have left your Ticketmaster account and went to the buyer's.
Please note that during this exchange you will both see each other's names and emails as they appear on your accounts.
If you're selling via Ticketmaster's resale, or a 3rd party reseller website, simply list the ticket you need to sell, and they will do most of the work for you (for a fee). For the 3rd party reseller, you will still need to transfer the ticket from your Ticketmaster account to the buyer's using the email they provide via the 3rd party website - the steps are the same as above for the transfer.

Please note: these tips are more comprehensive for the US market. Although the process is very similar in other countries, it can differ slightly. Make sure to google Ticketmaster's policies for your country regarding transfers and resale.
