Radio drama based on Eve's song, "Promise"
Cast: Shimazaki Nobunaga as Ishiki Silver & Saito Soma as Niiro Mashiro
Other episodes: [1] 2 3 4
The colors swam, and we took a breath.
Silver: âThis⌠is for the best.â
Mashiro: âI finally found you.â
Mashiro: âItâs been a while.â
âââ
*school bell rings*
Mashiro: âMy name is⌠Niiro⌠Mashiro⌠Nice to meet you.
Silver: A transfer student?
Silver: What a gloomy guyâŚ
Teacher: âLetâs see, you can sit next to the window in the back.â
Akamine: âHey, Gin*, did you hear the rumors about Niiro?â *Silverâs name would typically be read as âGinâ in Japanese
Silver: âRumors?â
Akamine: âAbout how he canât actually see colors.â
Silver: âWhatâs that about?â
Akamine: âI'm telling you, he canât see colors!â
Silver: âHuh? Based on what?â
Akamine: âWhen I saw him earlier, he ignored the stoplight.â
Silver: âMaybe he just didnât notice it?â
Akamine: âHe graded his short test with a blue pen.â* *Short tests are usually graded by the students themselves
Silver: âMaybe he ran out of red ink?â
Akamine: âHis hair is green.â
Silver: âAnd?â
Akamine: âHe doesnât look like the type to dye it, so Kondo poked him about it! He asked him if itâs natural!â
Silver: âEehâŚâ
Akamine: âAnd then when he mentioned âgreenâ, apparently the guy looked confused!â
Silver: âDid he not intend to dye it green?â
Akamine: âAccording to him, itâs natural!â
Silver: âKondo was bothering him so the guy just answered half-mindedly.â
*slurp*
Silver: âAlright, I won this argument! Good night.â
Akamine: âNo you didnât⌠Show some interest will you!â
Silver: *yawn*
Akamine: âItâs a colorless world! Arenât you into that sorta thing?â
Silver: âThereâs a big difference between not being able to see colors and seeking a colorless world for yourself. Are you stupid?â
Akamine: âBut yâknow, donât you think you and Niiro kind of look alike?â
Silver: âHuh? What part?â
Akamine: âYour eyes or⌠lips maybe? Here, this part looks completely the same! Your sexy beauty mark~â
Silver: âYou idiot. Iâll remove this with a laser one day.â
Akamine: âWhy?â
Silver: âBecause I hate it. Don't even get me started.â
Silver: Thatâs right. I hate this thing. Whenever I look at it, I get reminded of my father who left my mom.
Silver: âI'll leave that house as soon as possible, remove this beauty mark, and make a living off photography. Man, I canât wait to be an adult.â
Akamine: âNow donât you just have it all figured out, your plans for the future that is.â
Silver: âShut up!â
âââ
Yamauchi: âAlright then, we came to a decision that Niiro-kun and I will be a part of the school festival planning committee.â
*school bell rings*
Mashiro: âUm⌠Yamauchi-sanâŚâ
Yamauchi: âYes?â
Mashiro: âI have an idea for the exhibitâŚâ
Yamauchi: âHuuh⌠What is it?â
Mashiro: âAn aquarium.â
Yamauchi: âOoh! Like fish swimming in a water tank? We certainly have one, so it could work!â
Mashiro: âUm, well⌠I thought instead of real fish, maybe we could fill a tank with deep blue water and have the fish be light projections, so that it looks like they're swimming in the sky?
Yamauchi: âSwimming in the skyâŚ? I find that a bit hard to imagineâŚâ
Mashiro: âIs that so⌠Maybe youâre rightâŚâ
Yamauchi: âBut how about you try it anyway?â
Mashiro: âA-are you sure?â
Yamauchi: âWell then, how about you go ask Ishiki to help you with the photos for the flyers?â
Mashiro: âIshiki-kun?â
Yamauchi: âHeâs a part of the photography club! Heâs gotta help for these sort of occasions at least! Iâll talk to him.â
Mashiro: âI seeâŚâ
âââ
Silver: âSo? Is this spot good for the photos?â
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âI said is this spot good?â
Mashiro: âAh⌠Yeah⌠Itâs fineâŚâ
Silver: He sure is gloomyâŚ
Mashiro: âMaybe itâs weird after allâŚâ
Silver: âWhat is?â
Mashiro: âGoldfish swimming in the sky⌠Yamauchi-san also said itâs hard to imagineâŚâ
Silver: âHuh? Was that your idea?â
Mashiro: âAh⌠Yeah⌠It was mineâ
Silver: âReally? Thatâs amazing!â
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âThe color combination of the sky and goldfish is great, and the concept is so free and out of the box too⌠Oh, how about we add an ocean to the composition too? Something like the light enclosed between the sky and the ocean, like itâs captured between the two blues, and the goldfish are swimming there, creating an illusion like theyâre flying andâŚ!â
Mashiro: ââŚâ
Silver: â⌠Ah, sorry.â
Mashiro: â...Amazing! That idea didnât occur to me at all!â
Silver: â⌠Can you really not see colors?â
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âAh, no, sorry! Forget I said that! Itâs probably a mistake or I just assumed wrong orâŚâ
Mashiro: â⌠No, thatâs right.â
Silver: âHuh?â
Mashiro: âHow did you know?â
Silver: âItâs just that⌠Um⌠Sometimes I hear rumorsâŚâ
Mashiro: âSo it was rumorsâŚâ
Silver: âAh but itâs not like I believed them, itâs just that your idea is really good, and I thought itâd be a surprise if someone who canât see colors could imagine such color composition! Simply put, I think youâre amazing!â
Silver: What am i saying?
Mashiro: âFrom my point of view, youâre the one whoâs amazing, Ishiki-kunâŚâ
Silver: âHuh? ⌠By the way, you know my name?â
Mashiro: âOf course I do, weâre classmates.â
Silver: âThatâs true but⌠I thought you didnât like me.â
Mashiro: âNo way! On the contrary, I thought you⌠hated...â
Silver: âHm? What did you say?â
Mashiro: âAh, itâs nothing!â
Silver: âHmm, but why sky and goldfish?â
Mashiro: âHonestly I just thought itâd be pretty⌠When I picture the color combination I just get the urge to express it somehow.â
Silver: âColor combination? Can you tell colors apart?â
Mashiro: âWhen I was little I used to be able to see them. Though I can only combine them in my head nowâŚâ
Silver: âHey, Niiro.â
Mashiro: âHm? What is it?â
Silver: âWhy donât you try doing photography?â
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âI think it suits you. You have a good sense for it and your ideas are great too.â
Mashiro: âAh, but⌠I donât have a camera.â
Silver: âI have an extra one so Iâll lend it to you!â
Mashiro: âButâŚâ
Silver: âJust give it a shot! I'm interested in seeing the world through your eyes.â
Mashiro: âI donât think⌠the world I see is that interesting thoughâŚâ
Silver: âYou wonât know unless you try!â
Mashiro: âIs⌠that soâŚâ
Silver: âYeah!â
Mashiro: âThen⌠I guess Iâll⌠give it a shotâŚâ
Silver: âThen how about you try taking some test photos this weekend while weâre getting more material for the flyers?â
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âThe ones with the sky, ocean and goldfish!â
Mashiro: âUmmâŚâ
Silver: âAre you busy then?â
Mashiro: â⌠No, Iâm free.â
Silver: âGreat!â
Mashiro: âThen⌠I canât waitâ
âââ
Silver: âAh, there it is! Grandpaâs camera!â
Silverâs mom: âSilver.â
Silver: âGeh-â
Silverâs mom: âIs it true thereâs a kid at school with the last name Niiro?â
Silver: âHuh?â
Silverâs mom: âWell?â
Silver: Momâs in a bad mood again todayâŚ
Silverâs mom: âHey, are you listening?â
Silver: âWhy are you asking?â
Silverâs mom: âDonât you 'why' me, I asked you a question.â
Silver: âNo, there isnât such a person.â
Silverâs mom: âOk. But if there is, you canât get close to him.â
Silver: âAgain, why?â
Silverâs mom: âWhy, why, youâre so annoying! When I say you canât it means you canât! If you get close to him everything will be taken away from you!â
silver: âWhat do you-â
Silverâs mom: *hits something* âThatâs enough! Understood?â
Silver: â⌠Yes. Understood.â
Silverâs mom: âGood. Also, tell me when youâre ready to sell that white camera. Having you costs me money after all.â
Silver: âBut this is from grandpa-â
Silverâs mom: âI'm taking it to the pawn shop next week.â
*doors slam shut*
Silver: But he bought it for me so that i could take good photosâŚ
Silver: ⌠She never listens to me. The conversation is always one-sided. She wonât even answer my questions.
Silver: I want to be free.
âââ part 2 audio
Silver: âAah not a cloud in the sky! I have a feeling weâll get some good photos! Donât you think so too?â
Mashiro: âHey, is it really ok⌠for me to borrow this? This camera seems important to-â
Silver: âYeah, itâs fine! I donât really use her, so I feel a bit bad for her.â
Mashiro: âYou really like photography, donât you?â
Silver: âDo I?â
Mashiro: âYou do! If you didnât, you wouldnât be speaking so fondly of it. It's proof you treasure it dearly. So⌠I'm sorry to borrow this from you.â
Silver: *mutters* â... Youâre embarrassing meâ
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âAlright, letâs go!â
Mashiro: âGo⌠where? Weâre not taking photos here?â
Silver: âYou wanna go for a ship ride?â
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âTa-da!â
Mashiro: âTickets!? Thatâs great!
Silver: âHeheâŚâ
Silver: âNiiro, have you been on a ship before?â
Mashiro: âYeah, I have. When I was little I lived in Kyushu so I had a lot of opportunities to ride one.â
Silver: âOooh? To go like fishing and stuff?â
Mashiro: âNo, as means of transport. My school was about 15 minutes away by ferry.â
Silver: âFor real? That sounds amazingâŚâ
Mashiro: âWhat part of it?â
Silver: âAh no, I mean, youâre so used to being close to the ocean⌠Thereâs a sense of freedom to that.â
Mashiro: âFreedomâŚâ
Silver: âYeah! I mean it feels like itâs such an unknown world to me, I guess you could say I'm a little jealous.â
Mashiro: âI'mâŚthe one whoâs jealous of you though.â
Silver: âHuh?â
Mashiro: âDo you long for freedom, Ishiki-kun?â
Silver: âOf course!â
Mashiro: âI see⌠That sounds nice.â
Silver: âWait, why is that something to be jealous of?â
Mashiro: âBecause wishing to become free and putting effort towards it already paves your way to freedom, doesnât it?â
Silver: âUuh⌠Sorry, I donât really get itâŚâ
Mashiro: âThereâs some things people can only wish forâŚâ
Mashiro: â... Hm? Are you coming?â
Silver: âCan you tell me more?â
Mashiro: â... Some things won't come true if you just wish for them. Thereâs people who only do that. Compared to them, putting effort towards your wish is really something to be jealous of.â
Silver: âCan you⌠not become free?â
Mashiro: â... I wonder about that⌠Come on, letâs go!â
âââ
Silver: âHey, how about you try snapping a photo?â
Mashiro: âButâŚâÂ
Silver: âWe came here to take photos, right?âÂ
Mashiro: â... I donât know how to use a camera.â
Silver: âLiar!â
Silver: You were playing around with it just now.
Silver: âUsually people who actually donât know ask the moment theyâre handed the camera.â
Mashiro: âThatâs not always the case thoughâŚâ
Silver: *sigh* âWhy are you so reserved?â
Mashiro: âThatâs because⌠The colors that I see are dim. So I canât judge whether something is really pretty⌠You take photos after you think to yourself something looks pretty, right? I canât do that, soâŚâ
Silver: âJust now we spoke about freedom, yeah?â
Mashiro: â... YeahâŚâ
Silver: âI always take photos striving to be free. When I look back at the photos I took, I feel like I had some sort of freedom at that moment. I like recalling how much fun I had when I took them.â
Mashiro: âBecause of photos?â
Silver: âI mean think about it! Photos arenât something you take when youâre angry or bored, right?â
Silver: Why am I talking about this?
Silver: âJust let your emotions take over and press the shutter button. Judging whether it ended up pretty or not comes on its own afterwards!â
Mashiro: âOn its own⌠afterwards?â
Silver: âI'm telling you! Here, if you wanna become free letâs take one together.âÂ
Mashiro: â... You really are amazing, Ishiki-kun.â
Silver: âHow come?â
Mashiro: âI never thought of photography as a way to become free.â
Silver: âAre you making fun of me?â
Mashiro: âI'm not!â
Silver: He finally took the camera in his hands.
Mashiro: â... Will I be able to see something too?â
Silver: âI donât mean to brag but, the scenery through the camera looks more colorful to me.Â
Mashiro: âIsnât that a bad thing, Ishiki-kun?âÂ
Silver: âYouâre really asking for a fight, huh?âÂ
Silver: This view through the camera lens⌠How can I convey it to him? ⌠Stop getting distracted, back to work, back to work. Photos for the flyer, right⌠The sky and the ocean becoming one. The imagery of goldfish floating thereâŚ
*shutter sound*
Silver&Mashiro: âJust nowâŚâ
Silver: âThe light-â
Mashiro: âThe colors-âÂ
Silver&Mashiro: âHuh?â
*both laugh*
Silver: âHey, did you see the really pretty light just now?â
Mashiro: âRather than light, I saw amazing colors!â
Silver: âHuh? Colors?â
Mashiro: âLight?â
*both laugh*
Silver: âWhat kind of colors did you see?â
Mashiro: âAh it was kind of like⌠Itâs like suddenly everything was getting dyed blue from the end of the filter⌠And there was also like this red and yellow andâŚâ
Silver: âLike rainbow-colored?â
Mashiro: âRainbow? Ah, sorry, what color was the rainbow again?â
Silver: âItâs like glowing in seven different colors, like red and yellow and green!â
Mashiro: âAah⌠That might be it⌠Thatâs probably it!â
Silver: âFor real?â
Mashiro: â!â
Silver: âIsnât that amazing?â
Mashiro: âIt⌠kind of is butâŚâ
Silver: âRight? Me too! I also saw the edge of the sky glow in the colors of the rainbow!â
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âIf you imagine goldfish swimming freely in this vivid scenery... Isnât it wonderful?!â
Mashiro: â... It is!â
Silver: âRight?!â
Mashiro: âThis is amazing, Ishiki-kun! Even for just a moment I could see so many colors! It somehow felt like the whole world suddenly gained color⌠The sky, the ocean⌠They sparkle like that!â
*drip*
Silver: âHuh?â
Mashiro: âWhatâs thisâŚ? WhyâŚ?â
Silver: Tears.
Mashiro: â... Sorry. Why am IâŚ?â
Silver: âMaybe you were deeply moved?â
Mashiro: âDeeply movedâŚ? Deeply⌠moved? Yeah⌠I was incredibly moved!â
Silver: âHey, how did it feel seeing colors?â
Mashiro: âI'm not sure but⌠It was exciting! My heart kept pounding and I was so happy my chest hurt!â
Silver: He can make this expression tooâŚ
Mashiro: âEven though theyâre both blue, the sky and the ocean were completely different! The clouds were white, and the waves were also whiteâŚ! At that moment, I thought how itâs even more complex and beautiful than I had imaginedâŚ!â
Silver: His tears are beautifulâŚ
Mashiro: âYou said itâs called a rainbow, right? Anyway, it looked like lots of colors were swimming in a blue world⌠So I wanted to see it with my bare eyes and when I lowered the camera everything turned dull again but⌠It was amazing! Really!â
Silver: âI seeâŚâ
Silver: â⌠Hey Niiro. When I'm with you I feel like I can see a new, unknown world.â
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âI said it before too, but I take photos striving to be free!â
Mashiro: â... Yeah?â
Silver: âHey Niiro, would you like to be able to see colors again?â
Mashiro: â... Huh?â
Silver: âTo be honest, I donât have the slightest clue why you canât see colors. But you saw them for a moment just now, right? So to see them once again-- no, to see them many more times from now on, why donât we take photos together?â
Mashiro: â... ButâŚâ
Silver: âMaybe youâll find some lead!â
Mashiro: âIâŚâ
Silver: âHey, Niiro! Letâs see the world together!â
Mashiro: â... Yeah⌠I want to⌠see the world⌠Letâs see it together!â
Silver: âAlright! When we grow up let's travel all over the world together and take lots of photos so that I can look for freedom and you can look for colors! Itâs a promise!â
Mashiro: â... PromiseâŚ?â
Silver: âYeah! Promise!â
Mashiro: â... Got it, itâs a promise!â

ăIro ga oyoide, iki wo shita ďź The colors swam, and we took a breathă Episode 2
Radio drama based on Eve's song, "Promise"
Cast: Shimazaki Nobunaga as Ishiki Silver & Saito Soma as Niiro Mashiro
Other episodes: 1 [2] 3 4
The colors swam, and we took a breath.
Silver: Ever since the day we went out for the first time, Niiro and I have been meeting up every day with cameras in our hands. Since my mom was already planning on taking one of the cameras to the pawn shop, I thought I may as well give it away to Niiro, but he stubbornly refused and decided to pay it off little by little instead. Niiro Mashiro is a much sharper guy than I thought. At first, even Akamine was surprised to see the two of us together. But as time passed, it became a given that we always come in a pair.
Classmate: âNiiro-kun and Ishiki-kun, youâre always together, kinda like twins~â
Silver: âIâm so tired of hearing thatâŚâ
Classmate: âWhen youâre not together, it feels kinda wrong.â
Mashiro: âI canât even laugh at thatâŚâ
Classmate: âYour personalities are completely different though -- like a prince and a crude man.â
Silver: âOi, oi!â
Mashiro: *coughing*
Silver: â⌠Have you been alright lately? If youâre feeling unwell then--â
Mashiro: âSorry-- Donât worry about itâŚâ
Akamine: âGin! Do you have a moment?â
*footsteps*
Silver: âWhat is it?â
Akamine: âWell you see⌠A senpai from the soccer club wanted me to ask you for help with the club photo andâŚâ
Silver: âWhy bother?â
Akamine: âApparently he's really particular about it⌠He said he wanted like a sunset behind us, so that we look cool.â
Silver: âWhat the hell even is that idea, isnât that a bit too abstract⌠What does that have to do with soccer anyway?â
*thud*
*gasp*
Silver: âMashiro!!!â
Girl: âSomeone call the teacher!!!â
Akamine: âIâll go!!!â
Silver: âMashiro! Oi! Hang in there!â
*chatter*
âââ
*door sliding open*
Nurse: âIshiki-kun, thank you for coming along. It seems Niiro-kunâs parents are coming, so you can go now if you want.â
Silver: âI⌠seeâŚâ
Silver: It was just anemia⌠it seemsâŚ
*door sliding open*
Silver: âIf you'll excuse me then.â
*door sliding shut*
*footsteps*
Silver: HuhâŚ!?
*door sliding open in the distance*
Man: âExcuse me, Iâm Niiro.â
Nurse: âOh, Mashiroâs father, you came quick. Your son is right over hereâŚâ
*door sliding shut in the distance*
Silver: No⌠wayâŚ
Silver: Thatâs⌠That face isâŚ
âââ
*sound of simmering and chopping*
Silver: âHey⌠About my father⌠Where is he right now, what is he doing?â
*chopping stops abruptly*
Silverâs mom: âWhy are you asking?â
Silver: âAh, well, I just got curiousâŚâ
Silverâs mom: âI donât know. Once I went into labor to you it was over between us. How many times do I have to tell you that?â
Silver: âHe had an affair⌠right?â
Silverâs mom: âThatâs right, he had an affair. I donât want to talk about a man who has children with other women and then leaves.â
Silver: ââŚâŚâ
Silver: âUm so⌠About this other kid⌠By any chance, is he Niiro Mashi--â
*slam*
Silverâs mom: âI told you, didnât I? That you canât get close to him. Why donât you listen to what your mother says?â
Silver: âI didnât get close to him! Itâs just that Iâm often told by my classmates we look alike, so I just thought what ifâŚâ
Silverâs mom: âYou canât.â
Silver: âAh. Mm. Of course.â
Silverâs mom: âI told you, he will take everything away from you, didnât I? Itâs because of that boy we were tossed away. I was⌠and you were too.â
*drip drip*
Silver: I wonder since when is it⌠that mom stopped smiling. This slender, skinny back, and this place where Iâm always faulted for everything - If father hadnât had an affair, if he hadnât had a child with another person, maybe, just maybe I would have had more freedom.
Silverâs mom: âDonât talk to me about these people ever again.â
Silver: âOkâŚâ
Silver: All this time, I always thought I wanted to run away from this place. I even spoke to him about wanting freedom, when all along the one who stole that freedom away from me was actuallyâŚ
Silver: âŚHey, Mashiro. What was it you were thinking when you said you thought I hated you?
âââ
*sound of airplane taking off*
Silver: After that, I avoided Mashiro for some time. I say that, but ever since the day he collapsed, he hasnât been coming to school. We havenât been in touch -- I guess thatâs the more appropriate way to put it. So, as if time simply drifted by, a day like this had to come. To my misery, we ended up going to Kyushu together, the place where Mashiro used to live. This is nothing but torure.
Mashiro: âGin⌠Are you angry about something?â
Silver: âWeâre done for the day.â
Mashiro: âHuh?â
Silver: âI donât feel like taking photos.â
Mashiro: âWhyâŚ?âÂ
Silver: âI told you before, didnât I? I donât take photos when Iâm angry or bored.â
Mashiro: âBut--â
Silver: âIâm bored when Iâm with you.â
Mashiro: âBut you even bought the ticketsâŚâ
Silver: âTicketsâŚ? Right⌠I paid for you. I donât need the money soâŚâ
*footsteps*
Mashiro: âWait!!! What do you mean bored? Gin, Iâve been looking forward to this day since way back and--â
Silver: âThatâs exactly WHAT I MEAN!!! IâM BORED WHEN IâM WITH YOU!!!â
*crowd chatter*
Mashiro: âThatâs⌠You never mentioned such a thing before--â
Silver: âThereâs no way I could have said anything!!! You deliberately hid everything away and laughed innocently!!!â
Mashiro: âWhat⌠actually happenedâŚ? GinâŚâ
Silver: âPlaying ignorant, are we⌠You already know.âÂ
Mashiro: ââŚKnow⌠what?â
Silver: âAbout your father!â
Mashiro: â!!!â
Silver: âWho would've guessed your father is my father tooâŚâ
Mashiro: âThatâŚâ
Silver: âYou knew everything, didnât you! You almost managed to deceive me.â
Mashiro: âThatâs not true! I kept trying to tell you--â
Silver: âYou can keep saying that however much you want now! Was it fun watching me from the side while I knew nothing?â
Mashiro: âGinâŚâ
Silver: See? Youâre not denying it. You canât, can you? Youâre horrible. Disgusting. The way my mom is acting all weird, and my lack of freedom too, all of it-- Itâs all his fault.
Silver: âLooking for freedom, searching for colors⌠Who cares about any of that anymore!â
Mashiro: âIâŚ!!!â
Silver: What is thisâŚ? Tears? My vision is blurringâŚ
Silver: Hey, why are you making such a hurt expression? I thought we were friends, and yet to you I was just a half-sibling!
Silver: âDonât ever speak to me again.â
Mashiro: âWait, Gin! I--â *coughing*
Silver: âHaving another coughing fitâŚ? How irritating⌠How about you have your kind father come get you again!?â
Mashiro: âWaitâŚ! Gin!!!â
part 2 audio
Silver: I did not look back that day. Because I didnât want to see his face as he acted like a pitiful son only so that he could get his fatherâs attention. His faint voice got more and more distant, before it finally weakly faded. And that image of Niiro Mashiro was the last one I saw.
âââ
*school bell*
Teacher: âNiiro will be unable to attend class due to health issues. Heâs been hospitalized for the time being.â
*chatter*
Akamine: âHey⌠Will Niiro be ok?â
Silver: âHe'll be fine. AnywaysâŚâ
Silver: Theyâre probably blowing all this out of proportion. Heâll come back to school with that innocent look of his. Thatâs right. He, Niiro Mashiro, should just disappear.
*distorted sounds*
Akamine: âHeey. Heeey!â
Silver: Darkness
Akamine: âHeeey Iâm talking to you!â
Silver: What is this? This⌠isn't anemia?
Distorted voice: âHey. Whatâs wrong? Whatâs wrong?â
Silver: âSTAY AWAY!!!â
Akamine: âHuh!?â
Silver: âI⌠was imagining it?â
Silver: I thought I saw Akamineâs red hair attack meâŚ
Akamine: âSeriously, are you ok?â
Silver: â... Itâs nothing.âÂ
Silver: Everything is back to normal⌠What the hell was that?
âââ
*footsteps*
Silver: Itâs been half a year since Mashiro got hospitalized. Thereâs still no sign of him at school.
Silver: âIâm home.â
Silver: Whatâs this smellâŚ!?
*fast footsteps*
Silver: Mom?
*sound of crackling fire*
Silver: âWhat are you doing?â
Silverâs mom: âSilver. Youâre back. Thereâs something you hid from me, isnât there?â
Silver: â... Huh? Hid what?â
Silverâs mom: âAre you getting along with his son?â
Silver: â... What?â
Silverâs mom: âI canât believe it. After everything I told you⌠Why didnât you listen to me?â
Silver: ⌠Theyâre burning.
Silverâs mom: âTell me Silver, why?âÂ
Silver: The photos⌠and the camera too. Everything is burning.
Silver: âWhy are you doing this?â
Silverâs mom: âWhy am I doing this? Why are you doing this!? After how much I told you not to get closer to Niiro Mashiro!â
Silver: My memories are turning into ashes, into smoke⌠and disappearing. Fleeting so easily. Did mine and his relationship disappear like this too?.
Silver: âI CAN HANG OUT WITH ANYONE I WANT!!! WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TELL ME AROUND THAT MUCH!?Â
Silverâs mom: â...! Is this how you speak to your mother?â
Silver: âIF YOU'RE MY MOTHER THEN STOP MAKING ME FEEL THIS TRAPPED! STOP PUSHING YOUR AFFAIRS ONTO YOUR CHILD!!!â
Silverâs mom: â...!â
Silver: Why do they look so hurt? Both mom and himâŚ
Silver: âFUCK!â
*hitting/kicking*
*fast footsteps*
Silver: What the hell? What the fuck!? To hell with everyone... Iâve had it⌠This small world should just disappear.

*inside train*
Silver: After that, wanting to get far away from that place, I boarded the train. This was as far as my world could reach. As I thought that, I came to the bridge where me and him met up that day.
*boat horn*
Silver: Unable to see what was ahead, I was running in a pitch-dark world where colors seemed to disappear from the edges. When I came to, I was holding the camera that was burnt to char-black. In a trance, I pressed the shutter button. But it did nothing, I could see nothing. Color was disappearing from my world.
âââ
*chatter, school bell*
*steps*Â
Teacher: âGood morning. I have a very sad announcement to make. Niiro Mashiro, who has been absent from school for a long time, passed the other day.â
Silver: ... Huh? This canât⌠be happening.
Teacher: âWe got a call about the wake from Niiro-kunâs familyâŚâ
âââ
*rain*
Silver: To be honest, I lost a track of time. I canât believe that day when he had a coughing fit was the last time I'd see him.Â
Woman: âIâm sorry for your loss.â
Silver: When I was at the wake, I met eyes with my real father for the first time. He looked at me like he wanted to say something, but I pretended not to notice and stubbornly avoided him.Â
Classmate A: âApparently he had a serious conditionâŚâ
Classmate B: âI heard he moved from Kyushu to Tokyo during middle school because the hospitals here are goodâŚâ
Classmate C: âIs that whyâŚ? I had no ideaâŚâ
Classmate B: âHe seemed cheerful, but now that I think about it, he always just watched during gym class.â
Classmate D: âHe also seemed pale at times, and he often had coughing fits, didnât heâŚâ
Classmate A: âBut man, a classmate dying really makes you uneasyâŚâ
Classmate D: âStuff like this really happensâŚâ
Silver: The conversation around me sounded like it was behind some curtain.
Classmate B: âIshiki-kun might know more details.â
Classmate D: âYouâre right. Those two got along and allâŚâ
Classmate B: âIf we ask him, weâll probably learn more about Niiro-kunâ
Silver: ... I donât know⌠I donât know⌠anything.
Silver: Everything Iâve done with him was fabricated, even the abundance of photos we took. Maybe the real Mashiro was somewhere within those memories. I wonder what expression he had, what he was feeling as he watched my back. Now Iâll never know even that. Yes, never.
*sliding door*
Silver: Mom and I stopped talking as much whenever I return home. In exchange, she treats me like I donât exist. I donât know anymore if this is what I wished for.
Silver: ⌠Is this freedom? Then why are the colors I see so faded? What is this? Itâs touching my face, and even when I rub my eyes, it wonât go away.
Silver: I canât see a single color anymore.

*beep⌠beep⌠beepâŚ*
Silver: Where am I
*beep⌠beepâŚ*
Silver: âAh.â
???: âYou-- Youâre awake, Silver-kun!?â
Silver: *gasp*
Silver: Why⌠are you⌠hereâŚ? Iâm in⌠a hospital?
???: âIâll go call the doctor.â
Silver: A blue paper bag Does it belong to him ⌠Huh? I can see⌠colors?
*knock knock*
*sliding doors open*
Doctor: âExcuse me.â
*footsteps*
Doctor: âYes, you seem fine. Youâre really lucky someone found you so quickly.â
Silver: â... YeahâŚâ
Doctor: âYou shouldnât ride a boat while drunk. If you were found just a minute later it would have been a close call.â
Silver: â... ReallyâŚ?â
Doctor: âWell then, you rest up now.â
*footsteps, sliding doors open*
???: âYour mother called me. She said you were in a serious condition so she wanted me to be by your side. Sheâs not fit for that, she said. Iâm not the one to talk, but I was so worried I ran here immediately.â
Silver: ⌠A beauty mark⌠Just like⌠mine and Mashiroâs.
Father: âOh right, Silver-kun.â
*paper bag rustling*
Father: âI have something Iâve been wanting to give you for a while.â
Silver: â... What is it?â
Father: âTruth is I should have given this to you during his funeral, butâŚâÂ
*handing silver the bag*
Father: âIn that letter, he asked me to give you this camera.â
Silver: Grandpaâs⌠CameraâŚ
Father: âThank you so much⌠For being Mashiroâs friend. Iâm really⌠really grateful.â
Silver: Heâs [bowing] so deeplyâŚ
Father: âThank you. And⌠Iâm sorry for everything.â
Silver: â... No⌠Thank you too. For letting me meet him.â
Father: ââŚ! Then⌠Iâll be taking my leave here.â
*footsteps, sliding doors open and close*
*paper rustling*
Silver: His⌠letter.
*drip*
[âPromiseâ by Eve starts playing, i break down]
Silver: DearâŚIshiki SIlver.
Gin, itâs been a while. Itâs my first time writing a letter, so Iâm a bit nervous. Iâm sorry about what happened at the airport.
*Silvers voice blends into Mashiroâs*
I always wanted to tell you the truth, but I couldnât muster up the courage. Because I thought you would be hurt. And⌠I was scared youâd hate me. Youâre the very first friend I made; I held you dear, I wanted you by my side, so I wasnât even able to tell you something so important. Itâs unforgivable, isnât it? After all, Iâm the one responsible for breaking your family apart. Maybe this letter wonât even reach you. It might get thrown away before anyone even reads it, or my dad might throw it away after reading its contents. So let me write this in advance. You absolutely must deliver this letter. Hey, Gin. The truth is, I met you a long time ago. We were on a tour boat, and we looked at each other as we held onto our cameras. You may not remember it, but I remember that moment even now. Because that's when I saw colors. Colors are amazing. When you see them, it really feels like the world is alive. What allowed me to feel that was you. When I was with you, Gin, for some reason I felt cheerful. I felt like I was alive. So thatâs why when you asked me to look for colors together I was incredibly happy. Because it felt like you asked me to look for the meaning of life. You might have already forgotten that promise. But Iâll remember it my whole life. Ishiki Silver-kun. To me, you were an irreplaceable color. Thank you so, so much. P.S. It seems like I wonât be able to take photos anymore, so please use this camera. Look for freedom with this camera, and one day when you feel like forgiving me â please show me those memories. Itâs a promise. âNiiro Mashiro
*beep* *beep* *beep*
Silver: What is⌠this?
*beep* *beep* *beep*
Silver: My back And⌠my smile?
Silver (and me): *crying*
Silver: âAah⌠Itâs not fairâŚâ
âââ
SIlver: After that, when I was discharged, I went out under the blue sky for the first time after a while. I longed for this day. Because I wanted to take photos of the world and show it to him. Just like in middle school, with excitement in my chest and a ticket in my hand, I boarded a ship and pressed the shutter button.
*glister, shutter sound*
Silver: The world was alive. The world through the camera lens is beautiful. As long as our promise remains, Iâll never turn back again. So one day, letâs meet in a dream again. The one-shot we promised each other starts here.

ăIro ga oyoide, iki wo shita ďź The colors swam, and we took a breathă Episode 3
Radio drama based on Eve's song, "Promise"
Cast: Shimazaki Nobunaga as Ishiki Silver & Saito Soma as Niiro Mashiro
Other episodes: 1 2 [3] 4
The colors swam, and we took a breath.
Waiter: âHereâs your beer!â
Akamine: âSo what do you think, Gin? I really want you to be the one to take my wedding photos!â
Silver: âI already told you many times, I donât do photography anymore.â
Akamine: âBut why?â
Silver: âI canât see colors.â
*gulp gulp*
Akamine: âHuuuh? But thereâs lots of black and white photos! Canât you take some with that vibe?â
Silver: âI canât. I donât own a camera anyway.â
Akamine: âSeriously? But you loved it so muchâŚâ
Silver: Well, I guess to put it precisely, it got burned.
Akamine: âSay, itâs because of what happened 7 years ago, isnât it? The thing with NiiroâŚ?â
Silver: âWho knows.â
*lighter clicking*
Akamine: âSmokingâs not allowed here.â
Silver: *sigh*
Akamine: âWell, I wonât force you. But please give it a thought! I seriously loved your photos! So Iâd really want you to capture my once-in-a-lifetime memories!â
Silver: SorryâŚ
âââ
Silver: Itâs been a while since Iâve gone drinking during the day â and since Iâve seen Akamine as well. Perhaps thatâs why, having gotten carried away and having one too many drinks, for some reason my unsteady legs carried me towards the ocean where Mashiro and I took photos together for the first time. And so, before I realized, I found myself onboard a ship. By the time I noticed I was feeling sick, it was already too late. So, having no choice, I looked for a plastic bag [inside my backpack]. And there it was â that broken camera. I see. Did I bring it with me to give it a burial?
Silver: âAaAaAAGH!!!â
*splash*
Silver: ââŚ.. HahahaâŚâ
Silver: I should smoke one for the occasionâŚ
*ship horn* *burst*
???: âYouâll fall!â
Silver: âDid⌠I just imagine thatâŚ?â *sigh*
Mashiro: âI finally found you.â
*shutter sound*
Silver: No⌠wayâŚ
Mashiro: âItâs been a while.â
Silver: But⌠youâreâŚ
Mashiro: âI thought youâd be here.â
Silver: âWh⌠yâŚâ
Mashiro: âBecause this is the place of your memories.â
SIlver: He looks like an adult, but⌠could this really beâŚ
Mashiro: âI figured if thereâs somewhere youâd be, itâd be here.â
SIlver: No, it canât beâŚ
Mashiro: âAw, you threw the camera away⌠Even though we made a promise.â
Silver: âPro⌠miseâŚâ
Mashiro: âThat we would look for colors together, that you would look for freedom.â
Silver: âR⌠rightâŚâ
Mashiro: âYou havenât gone to see the world?â
Silver: Please⌠Donât look at me with those sincere eyes!
Mashiro: âArenât you a liar~ I didnât take you for that sort of a guy.â
Silver: â... You hate me, donât you?â
Mashiro: âWhy?â
Silver: âBe⌠causeâŚâ
Mashiro: âLetâs walk!â
Silver: âWalk where? Weâre on a shipââ
*scenery changing*
Silver: â... A promenade? Thereâs⌠no one here?â
Mashiro: âHow nostalgic~â
Silver: âThis sceneryâŚâ
Mashiro: âI canât hate you. I canât. Ahaha.â
*running footsteps*
Silver: âMashiro!â
*footsteps slow down*
Mashiro: âYou finally called out to me.â
Silver: Whatâs with that expressionâŚ? On top of that, Iâve never seen you runningâ
Mashiro: âThatâs right. Weâre inside of a dream.â
Silver: â...!â
Mashiro: âAs expected, you figured it out immediately. Huff!â *hop*
*hopping on gravel*
Silver: âWeâre on railroad tracks⌠is this safe?â
Mashiro: âThis is a dream so itâs safe. Well, formally, rather than a dream itâs more appropriate to say⌠weâre inside your heart, I guess?â
Silver: âHuâŚhâŚâ
Silver: Monochrome scenery as far as the eye can see. Even if this isnât reality, I still canât see colors, huh. I guess it makes sense since weâre inside my heart.
Mashiro: âI donât hate you, Gin. Youâve always been someone I admired.â
Silver: Admired Me?
Mashiro: âI always knew about you. Ever since I was a kid, there was something troubling my father.â
Silver: Mashiro⌠you⌠are talking about something I donât know⌠inside my heart?
Mashiro: âOne day, I snuck a look into a pocket diary my father held dear. And inside of it was a photo he treasured â a photo of a boy. Thatâs right â it was you.
Silver: That canâtâŚ
Mashiro: âI was really confused seeing a photo of someone who really looked like my father, to be honest. But after that I became more and more curious, and I soon learned the truth from a conversation between my parents.â
Silver: âYou⌠remembered⌠me?â
Mashiro: âAt first I was really troubled. I felt jealous of a brother I didnât even know, and I was furious to death. But more than anything, I was so shocked that I got a bad fever.
Silver: AahâŚ
Mashiro: âThe next day, I couldnât see colors anymore. I was in despair. Why only me? How? I thought how everything in this world should just disappear.â
Silver: Heâs⌠just like me.
Mashiro: âOne day, my father took me on a tour boat in Tokyo. He told me he learned photography from the father of someone he once loved, and thatâs when he taught me how to use a camera.â
Silver: GrandpaâŚ
Mashiro: âAnd you see, thatâs where I met an amazing boy. He held a big camera and just photographed the horizon straight ahead. So I got curious what he was taking a photo of and tried to stand on the same spot and take a photo the same way.â
Silver: âŚ!
Mashiro: âHe noticed me as I was doing it though~ But when our eyes met, it felt like the whole world suddenly gained color. Whether by instinct, I felt like I wanted to get to know him.
SIlver: Mashiro⌠youâŚ
Mashiro: âBut at the same time, when I saw his face, I knew. That boy was the one from the photo that I was so furious about. So I thought⌠We could never be friends.â
part 2 audio
Silver: You were alwaysâŚ
Mashiro: âWhat a cruel coincidence⌠To think weâd meet in such a place. Maybe, if we were born together as brothers with no real boundaries between us, maybe we could have been running around more places together. I was frustrated.â
SIlver: ⌠alwaysâŚ
Mashiro: âBack when I transferred in middle school, I was surprised to see your name, and also terribly happy. I knew about you, but you didnât know about me. I admired you, always surrounded by friends. I wanted to get closer to you, but on the other hand I also didnât. I had mixed feelings.â
Silver: ⌠more troubled than I thoughtâŚ
Mashiro: âWhen I learned about you not having a dad, I thought I was probably someone to be hated. I was afraid that when youâd find out about me youâd get hurt, so I tried to avoid you at school.â
SIlver: And yet IâŚ
Mashiro: âBut then one day, you reached out to me about the program for the school festival. To be honest, it felt like a dream.â
Silver: ⌠I hurt you, and now Iâm seeing this convenient illusionâŚ?
Mashiro: âWhen you invited me to look for colors together, I was really happy. Getting to know you was so much fun, I tried to forget about the unfortunate circumstances. Thatâs why I paid for my sins. I knew youâd get hurt once youâd find out about the truth, and yetâŚâ
Silver: But⌠I find myself thinking â if this is a dream I never want to wake up. I want to stay like this, forever.
*rain droplets*
Mashiro: âIâm sorry, Gin. I always wanted to apologize.â
Silver: No! Stop! Youâre not the one who should apologize! The one at fault⌠is meâŚ!
*ba-dump ba-dump*
Mashiro: âSay, Gin⌠You donât take photos anymore?â
Silver: âH⌠how could I⌠all by myself⌠carefreely⌠do the things I likeâŚâ
SIlver: After all, arenât I the one who let you die? I pretended to be the lone main character of a tragedy and childishly kept blaming you.Â
Silver: âHey, Mashiro⌠Please tell me the truth! Inside my memories, youâve always been telling me to apologize! Youâve been saying how everything would be better if I were gone!â
Silver: Even I realize the Mashiro inside my memories and the one inside my heart are different. ButâŚ
Silver: âPlease donât apologize!! If you apologize, then IâŚâ
*bursting sound mixed with bubbles and hissing*
Silver: What⌠is that A deep red⌠monster
Mashiro: âGinâŚ?â
Silver: At this rate, it will swallow meâŚ
Mashiro: âHey, GinâŚâ
Silver: âMashiro. Iâm sorry.â
*heavy splash*
Mashiro: âGIN!!!â
*bubbles*
Silver: Why is he so desperate? Haha. Itâs just a dream though. Strange⌠Can you shed tears under water? If I stay like this Iâll [sink] forever⌠and everâŚ
Mashiro: âDonât die! Donât die!!!âÂ
Silver: Head firstâŚ
Mashiro: âGin!!!â
Silver: Mashiro? You fell in too? Why?
Mashiro: âOpen your eyes!!â
Silver: âŚ!
Mashiro: âDonât run away, Gin! You said it yourself â that youâll look for freedom! Yet youâre breaking that promise, and willingly giving in to death! Donât give me that!
Silver: âThereâs no way I can look for freedom! You diedâŚâ
Mashiro: âSoâŚ! So look for it for me too! Didnât you say youâd look for colors with me? Gin. Donât blame yourself anymore! When you laugh freely, when you take photos â thatâs the you I love.
Silver: â...!â
Mashiro: âPlease. This is my⌠last wish.â
Silver: Heâs⌠reaching out to meâ
*scenery changing*
Silver: Aaaah!!! The⌠the colors areâ
Mashiro: âLook. Itâs beautiful, isnât it? This moment where everything gains color is what I was looking for while taking photos with you.â
Silver: â... YeahâŚâ
Mashiro: âGin. Go see the world, for me too.â
Silver: âBut I⌠[said] such cruel things to youâŚâ
Mashiro: âI donât mind.â
Silver: âDonât lie!â
Mashiro: âYeah. That was a lie. I actually really minded. Because I really wanted to meet you.â
Silver: â... Why?â
Mashiro: âI wanted you to forgive me. I wanted you to smile again.â
Silver: âNo! I should be the one apologizing! Iâm sorry⌠Iâm sorry, Mashiro!â
Mashiro: âThen weâre even. Say, about that wish I mentionedâŚâ
Silver: âNo⌠no way! I already threw away my camera and I can no longerâŚâ
Mashiro: âThen Iâll give you this.â
Silver: âHuh?â
Mashiro: âIt used to be your camera, so this should do, right?â
Silver: âI donât want this! Iâll be taking photos alone! If thatâs the case, Iâll just stay here! That way we can once moreââ
Mashiro: âThatâs no good, Gin. You felt it too, didnât you? How small this world is.â
Silver: âThatâsâ!!â
Mashiro: âThe more you see the world, the more freedom this place will gain, and the more colors youâll get to show me.â
Silver: Donât go!!
Mashiro: âIf you keep chasing your dreams, memories will flood this place in return.â
Silver: Please wait! Wait!!
Mashiro: âI want to see that.â
Silver: âMashiroââ
Mashiro: âHey, Gin. Show me more of the world unknown to me!â
Silver: ThatâsâŚ
Mashiro: âAnd then, when youâve made lots of memoriesâŚâ
Silver: ⌠not fairâŚ
Mashiro: â... letâs meet again inside a dream!â
Silver: I can only answer like thisâŚ
Silver: âYeah⌠You got itâ
Mashiro: *laughs* âItâs a promise.â
Silver: â... Thank you.â
