I noticed something very cool in the editing of the #LouisandRichard music video!
The last thing on Richardâs bucket list was to perform in front of a live audience. He chose to sing Nessun Dorma, the famous tenor aria from Pucciniâs opera, Turandot.
The aria ends in high notes in the tenor rangeâ B4 and A4. The lyrics are:
Hereâs Richard at that point.
The aria is already challenging for tenors in their prime. Imagine an 83-year-old voice singing it! Incredible!
(I also love these serendipitous lyrics for Two of Us. He will win.)
The video then immediately segues into the chorus of Two of Us: âEven if Iâm on my own, I know I wonât be alone.â Louisâ voice is singing in the same, high tenor range, same notes even. Although heâs singing a pop song, and not opera, his voice is so clear and at ease, so completely effortlessâ itâs breathtaking. The end of the video hearkens back to the beginning, when Louis told Richard, âIâm a singer as well.â Not only are they both singers, theyâre both high tenors with incredible voices.
Itâs even that way in the livestream. Louisâ voice is supported by flying buttresses.

Anyway, I loved this witty and musically intelligent editing.

Grab the tissues! Louis Tomlinsondropped the video for his new single âTwo of Usâ on Wednesday (April 24), and itâs a tearjerker.
In the clip, Tomlinson meets 83-year-old Richard Green, whose wife passed away from Alzheimerâs around the same time that the former One Directioner lost his mother, Johannah Deakin, to cancer. As the two bond, the older man reveals he has put together a bucket list, and Tomlinson agrees to help him check off all the items on the list.
âI will be the best of me/ Always keep you next to me/ I'll be living one life for the two of us,â the pop star sings as he and Green fly a helicopter, drive a race car and ride a roller coaster together.
The heartwarming video culminates in crossing off one final item on the amateur singerâs bucket list: performing in front of an arena full of fans at one of Tomlinsonâs shows. The crowd goes wild when Green delivers a stirring performance of an operatic tune like a pro as the pop star cheers his new friend on from the sidelines.
âTwo of Usâ is the lead single from Tomlinsonâs upcoming debut solo album and was released just one week before his sister FĂ©licitĂ©âs untimely death at age 18 from cardiac arrest. Watch the video for âTwo of Usâ below.

Louis Tomlinson knows more than most what it is like to lose someone you love, so the singer has drawn on his own experience to help an 83-year-old man following the death of his wife.
After hearing that man named Richard, whose wife Pat died due to an Alzheimerâs complication in December 2016, was trying to check off a few of the items on his bucket list, the British star stepped in.
âA month or so ago I met an amazing man called Richard. He had a few things he wanted to do so I thought Iâd help him out,â Tomlinson, 27, wrote on Instagram Wednesday.
âThis video feels particularly relevant and powerful to me. Richard is a classic example of a fearless man who in light of tragedy still pushes himself to live with as much laughter and happiness as possible,â Tomlinson added.
The time the pair spent together has been turned into an emotional video clip for Tomlinsonâs new single âTwo of Usâ.
In the video, Richard explains throughout the course of his life, heâs been a taxi driver, an actor and singer.
âI started playing at the clubs and pubs when I was about 17 years old â I did 45 years of that and gave it up when my wife started being ill. She couldnât be left alone.â
âUnfortunately, sheâs gone now â two years this Christmas sheâs been gone,â Richard says.
âI talk to her on a regular basis, even though sheâs not here.â
The clip then fades to black and a text appears that reads, âI lost someone around the same time. My mum.â
Tomlinsonâs mother Johannah Deakin died in 2016 from an aggressive form of leukemia.
Tomlinson explains he was so touched by Richardâs story that he decided to pay him a visit and help bring a little joy to his life.
Thatâs when Tomlinson shows up at Richardâs door.
After sharing a sweet embrace, Tomlinson and Richard begin talking about the women they lost.
âWe lived a good life together,â Richard says of his wife. âIâm sorry to hear your mum at such an early age.â
âShe was 43⊠Weâre a big family so it hit us hard,â Tomlinson says in the clip.
Tomlinson then asks Richard about his bucket list and how it came about.
âIt was something Iâve always fancied doing,â Richard says before the two embark on their adventures, which includes flying a helicopter, driving a race car and riding a roller coaster.
Getting a tattoo was also on Richardâs bucket list, but instead, he gave Tomlinson one.
While each activity proved to be more touching than the one before, Richardâs final item was the most moving.
Towards the end of the video, Tomlinson reveals Richard wanted to perform in a packed arena.
So, at one of his shows, Tomlinson brings Richard out and he belts out the incredibly technically demanding opera song, âNessun Dormaâ, bringing the entire audience to their feet.
âItâs been a good time with you Louis,â Richard says after his performance.
âItâs been lovely. No bullsâ. Actually spending real time with you and feeling like weâve gotten to know each other. Itâs been really nice,â Tomlinson says back.
At the end of the clip, Thomlinson urges his fans to donate to the Alzheimer Society, Cancer Research UK and Bluebell Wood Childrenâs Hospice.
The powerful video was filmed around the same time the singer tragically lost his younger sister. In March, Félicité Tomlinson died of a suspected cardiac arrest. She was 18.
Before her sudden death, Félicité, who was also known as Fizzy, worked as a model and influencer with over one million followers on Instagram.
One month later, Tomlinson broke his silence on FĂ©liciteâs sudden death writing, âJust wanted to thank everyone for their lovely words over the past couple of weeks.â
âSending you all loads of love x.â

2. Louis Tomlinson â âTwo Of Usâ (Dir. ?)
This is only barely a music video. You canât even hear the damn song. But itâs remarkably effective at forcing you to feel things, which is, of course, the entire point.

Louis Tomlinson has released a tear-jerking music video for âTwo of Usâ â an emotional track dedicated to his late mother Johannah Deakin.
The black-and-white clip opens up with Tomlinson, 27, alone in a warehouse, sitting in front of a grand piano.
He then sings âItâs been a minute since I called you/Just to hear the answerphone/Yeah, I know that you wonât get this/But Iâll leave a message so Iâm not alone.â
Throughout the rest of the clip, Tomlinson can be seen signing the emotional lyrics in different spaces around the building. At one point he is sitting on a sofa and in another scene, he is at a table.
The former One Direction member is later joined by backup singers in an empty room as he belts out, âEven when Iâm on my own, I know I wonât be alone/I know youâll be looking down, swear Iâm gonna make you proud/Iâll be living one life for the two of us.â
The visual concludes with Tomlinson back at the piano.
Deakin died in 2016 from an aggressive form of leukemia.
The touching tribute comes just a few weeks after Tomlinson used his experience with grief to help an 83-year-old man following the death of his wife.
