PSA time folks!

I’ve noticed that whenever I reblog fanart here, it gets significantly less notes than even the tiniest, ugliest mangacaps. If I may be brutally honest, that makes me pretty disappointed in my followers.

Guys, art is hard work, it really is. A lot of art is overlooked on Tumblr, and it can be really devastating to an artist’s confidence when they spend hours, even days pouring a ton of effort into a piece, only for it to stagnate at 30 notes or so (if you’re lucky). Especially when few of those notes are reblogs; Likes are nice, sure, but they don’t do much in the end. Likes don’t spread art around to a wider audience, and they don’t have cute tags telling the artist what they liked about a piece, they’re just... Silent acknowledgement. A like says “I like this art, but not enough to put it on my blog, or show other people. This art isn’t good enough to be seen on my blog, but it’s nice, I guess.”

Part of the reason I reblog fanart to this blog is because, with over 2,000 followers, I thought for sure it’d be a great way to give underappreciated fan artists more exposure. I thought it’d get people dozens, if not hundreds of notes, but so far that hasn’t really happened. And that makes me angry, because it shows just how little people care about fan artists and the incredible effort they put into their work. Why is it that Hirohiko Araki can draw this, and it gets 98 notes:

Look at how beautiful that art is! Look at those eyelashes, his fluffy hair, the shading on the buttons on his jacket! And you’re telling me this isn’t good enough to share, and yet somehow this-

-This tiny little 87x92 px background shot where Araki didn’t even draw his eyes, this is worth 27 more notes than that wonderful sketch? Come on, guys! Please, show fan artists some love! It’s not fair to devalue their art so much. And reblogging an underappreciated artist’s drawings can really brighten up their day so much more than you know. Show a little appreciation for their hard work, please.

My deepest apologies for interrupting this blog’s usual positive theme with anger and guilt trippy-ness, but this is something that’s really important to me, and I think it needed to be said.
