february 29: address - 407 words - @jegulus-microfic
James has a lot of hobbies he wants Regulus to learn about. So here they are, on a Saturday morning on a driving range. Regulus would rather be cuddled up in bed, but watching James hit ball after ball, sending them to the other side of the field, isn’t actually that bad.
“Why don’t you try?” James turned to him, after watching the nth golf ball soar through the air, holding the club out to Regulus. He hesitantly took the club from James. For all the ‘rich people activities’ his parents forced him to do as a kid, he has never in his life set foot on a golf course.
He tries to do what James did, shuffles his feet, puts the driver behind the ball. He brings it up over his shoulder, he swings and- He misses. By a lot. The club swings through the air, but the ball stays in place. James still encourages him, “Just try again.”
And so he does. He imitates James’ ritual again. Swings a little slower to have more control and this time he does hit the ball. It does not go into the air like when James hits it, but at least it is not still lying in front of him. Regulus lets his head hang forward in defeat.
“Let me help you,” James says. Then he makes his way over and goes to stand behind him just as he bends over to put the next ball on the tee. Big hands splayed over Regulus’ hips. Reminds him of last night, actually. A shiver goes down Regulus’ spine. He loves having James so close. He stands back up, back pressed to James’ chest.
“Make sure to spread your weight when you address the ball.” James, whose hands are still firmly holding onto his hips, shifts him a bit. Then he lets go and covers Regulus’ hands with his own and they lower the club until it’s behind the golf ball. “Just like that.”
“Now try it yourself.” His hands are back on Regulus’ hips. Regulus imitated the movement they just did together.
“Good boy,” James whispers, lips ghosting over his ear. He lets go and takes a few steps back, giving Regulus room to make his next swing. Unfortunately, all his blood has rushed south and he is unable to think about anything other than James’ hands on him.
“I- I think you need to help me again, Jamie.”

TW: Black trans murder
[Photo ID: Tee Arnold, a heavily tattooed Black man wearing a red tank top and gold chain, looks at the camera with a serious expression in a selfie taken indoors. /End ID]
Tee Arnold aka Lagend Billions, 36, died on April 07, 2024 from gun violence. He is the first trans Floridian to die in 2024.
Via @them's article:
Arnold’s death marks at least the ninth violent death of a trans person in the U.S. in 2024, per a running total maintained by PLC. He is also the second known Black trans man to be shot and killed this year, following the death of Righteous Torrence “Chevy” Hill in Atlanta on February 29.
“Tee Arnold is the fourth death driven by hate of a trans man this year, marking a concerning rise in fatal violence against our brothers,” said Victoria Kirby York, director of public policy and programs at the National Black Justice Coalition (NBCJ), in a press release obtained by The Advocate.
York noted that Arnold had “posted that his life was in danger,” arguing “that if the police had taken action on the threats against his life, this tragedy could have been prevented.”
“We also cannot ignore that this murder occurred in Florida, a state that has been leading the charge in anti-trans legislation and rhetoric,” she said.
According to Yahoo news:
Anyone with information that may lead to an arrest in Arnold’s death is asked to call Hallandale Beach police at (954) 457-1400 or Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS. Tipsters have the option to remain anonymous, and a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered.

September 7th 2023 | Cores for Heroes Submission | M. Ford | 1963 Beetle
I served in the USMC from 05-09. I went through boot camp at MCRD San Diego and School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton CA. I was sent to 7th Marines in 29 palms the end of January and February 14th we left for Iraq. I had to learn everything on the go, baptism by fire. My 1st tour was in a town called Husaybah Iraq, on the boarder of Syria, and the Euphrates river. Was a wild west kind of town. My 2nd tour was in a small town called Kubaysah, just outside of Hit Iraq. My journey took me to Baghdad to testify against two bad guys we caught throwing grenades at our patrols. The best part of that trip was swimming in Sadam Hussain's pool, and i have the picture to prove it! My 3rd and last tour was in Karma and NE Fallujah, sadly having to leave my post early I was sent home due to my Dad's untimely passing. Upon arrival back in the States I also lost my great grandmother within two days of being home, grateful I was able to tell her goodbye, wish I could have had that closure with my Dad. My Dad and Uncle Dave brought me up with a love of cars and Racing. My first car was a 69 bug that I drove while in HS and sold it before I joined the USMC. I regret selling it to this day and no pictures remain of it. My favorite past-time was cruising in my 69 bug all over the Columbia River Gorge corridor and county back roads. After moving from Oregon to Texas I decided it was time to build something. So I found a 1963 that I am currently restoring from the ground up. The theme for this bug will be USMC, going to call it the "Teuful Hunden" bug or as most people know it "Devil Dog". It will be painted red, with gold doors and rims, the Marine Corps colors. This build is really helping me find parts of me I left over seas. It's going to be a long build being a disabled veteran and on a budget. I have been ordering all the new body panels first. Was going to order a pro beam with disk brakes and a Freeway flyer with disk brakes from Air kewld but having a chance to win them is really awesome of you guys. Thanks for the opportunity and your time. M. Ford USMC
M. Ford is entered into our Cores for Heroes Program here - https://www.airkewld.com/Cores-for-Heroes-Program-s/2532.htm
To date, we have 12 submissions to win and we have raised $445 dollars of our $10,000 goal.
In our honest opinion, the US Armed Force members, are so under-appreciated. The PRO's are finally in a place to put a plan together that helps everyone that participates, but more importantly, those who served or serving.
Details will slightly change as we get more context, but here's the idea.
I want to give back to those who have fought for our freedoms, regardless of our political beliefs. I didn't fight for my country but my father did and he is fighting PTSD, mental disorders, agent orange, etc., etc. I get to build products for the greatest clients in the world because of it. So, how do I make something happen?
The PRO's need cores. The AirkewldArmy has cores. Within the AirkewldArmy community, reside members of the US Armed Forces that want/need/could use a boost in their life, whether it is financially or upgrades to their favorite VW.
To give some context on our Core Program, the PRO's need certain parts to make our PRObuilt Line of Classic Volkswagen Drive-Train Components. In the past, the PRO's would print out a prepaid shipping label and rebate an order if our client/s sent that core in and it checked out. Payment would be reimbursed to the client, store credit or trade for something else, would take place. With a unique but small twist, a BIG change can make a humongous difference.
If our current or past clients, the AirkewldArmy, sent their cores in, based on a value proposition, the PRO's would give them the opportunity to win two ways. The first, for every $10 in core value, would be one entry on a quarterly drawing to win Airkewld Swag, like work shirts, tee's, hats, stickers and air fresheners, $100 gift cards to Airkewld.com or even a $500 Visa/Airkewld gift card. The second, for every $10 in core value, once the PRO's accrue $10,000 in cores, the PRO's select a Hero, to receive a Complete Airkewld Drive-Train Package or $10,000.00 (Our CEO would fly to them and personally hand them the check), delivered to their door, FREE of charge. Heroes would enter by telling their story, both about their military experience and passion for their Classic Volkswagen.
Airkewld receives usable cores. The AirkewldArmy wins FREE Stuff. Together, the PRO's and the AirkewldArmy show appreciation to someone who deserves better, our Military Heroes.
Who's ready to make a difference today?

Welcome to the stunning island of Bermuda, a true tropical paradise in the Atlantic Ocean. With its pink-sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and vibrant culture, Bermuda offers a unique and unforgettable experience for travelers of all kinds. But when is the best time to visit this slice of heaven? Let’s dive in and explore the optimal seasons to plan your Bermuda getaway.
SPRINGTIME BLISS (MARCH TO MAY)
If you’re looking for pleasant weather and fewer crowds, spring is an ideal time to visit Bermuda. The temperatures during this season range from the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (18-23 degrees Celsius), making it perfect for outdoor activities and exploring the island’s natural wonders.
During spring, Bermuda bursts into a riot of colors as flowers bloom across the island. The famous Bermuda Botanical Gardens are a must-visit, where you can witness the beauty of orchids, hibiscus, and other tropical flora in full bloom.
Additionally, spring is a great time for water sports enthusiasts. The ocean waters are comfortably warm, allowing for snorkeling, scuba diving, and even swimming with dolphins. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the vibrant coral reefs and encounter the diverse marine life that Bermuda is renowned for.
SUN-KISSED SUMMERS (JUNE TO AUGUST)
Summers in Bermuda are synonymous with sunshine, beach days, and a lively atmosphere. The temperatures during this season range from the high 70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (25-30 degrees Celsius), creating the perfect conditions for soaking up the sun and enjoying the island’s stunning beaches.
The summer months in Bermuda also bring a calendar full of exciting events and festivals. From the Bermuda Day Parade to the Bermuda Jazz Festival, there’s always something happening on the island. Immerse yourself in the local culture, savor delicious seafood, and dance to the rhythm of island music.
While summers in Bermuda tend to be busier, you can still find pockets of tranquility by exploring lesser-known beaches and coves. Take a leisurely stroll along the famous Horseshoe Bay Beach or discover hidden gems like Tobacco Bay, known for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life.
AUTUMN SERENITY (SEPTEMBER TO NOVEMBER)
Autumn in Bermuda offers a serene and relaxing atmosphere, as the summer crowds disperse and the island settles into a peaceful rhythm. The temperatures during this season range from the high 70s to mid-70s Fahrenheit (25-29 degrees Celsius), providing a comfortable climate for outdoor exploration.
One of the highlights of visiting Bermuda in the fall is witnessing the migration of humpback whales. These majestic creatures pass through the island’s waters on their journey south, offering a breathtaking spectacle for nature enthusiasts. Book a whale-watching excursion and marvel at these gentle giants as they breach and play in the ocean.
Autumn is also an excellent time to explore Bermuda’s rich history and cultural heritage. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St. George’s, the oldest continually inhabited English settlement in the New World. Wander through the narrow streets, admire the colonial architecture, and step back in time.
MILD WINTERS (DECEMBER TO FEBRUARY)
While Bermuda’s winters are milder compared to many other destinations, they still offer a delightful escape from colder climates. The temperatures during this season range from the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (18-23 degrees Celsius), making it a pleasant time to explore the island without the crowds.
Winter in Bermuda is perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking and golfing. Lace up your hiking boots and discover the island’s scenic trails, or tee off at one of Bermuda’s world-class golf courses with breathtaking ocean views.
During the winter months, Bermuda also hosts the Bermuda International Film Festival, showcasing a diverse range of films from around the world. Immerse yourself in the world of cinema and attend screenings, workshops, and discussions with filmmakers.
CONCLUSION
Regardless of the season you choose, Bermuda will captivate you with its natural beauty, warm hospitality, and endless opportunities for adventure. Whether you’re seeking relaxation on the beach, thrilling water sports, or immersing yourself in the island’s rich culture, Bermuda has it all.
Remember to plan your trip in advance and book accommodations and activities early, especially during the peak seasons. With its year-round charm, Bermuda is ready to welcome you at any time. So pack your bags, embrace the island life, and get ready for an unforgettable vacation in Bermuda!

My new joggers from Anta arrived and I was thrilled by the silky softness, smoothness and stretchiness of the fabric. With my shoes, tees and backpack also from Anta, I may pass off as an ambassador 🤭 Truth is, I don't earn a cent and pay the same prices as everyone else; it's just that I simply love their high quality, durable and functional merchandise. China's Olympics team won so many medals whilst wearing Anta, a testament to the high performance products. Once I tried their range of super comfy apparel, there was no looking back!

It's been raining and the office was freezing; even wearing a jacket and having another cover my legs, I caught a cold. Traditionally, we eat red meat during cooler weather and when we fall sick, so I jumped at the chance for bak chor mee (pork noodles). It took all my willpower not to finish the soup to lower salt intake - it was so delicious and comforting! The effort to eat qing dan (low fat and salt) is worth it. The doctor took my blood pressure whilst I was at the clinic for my cold and, at 46yo, it stands at 119/78.
In Cantonese, we try to avoid 'sum go' (3 highs - high cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood sugar). Avoiding sum go is important since having 1 often leads to another or both of the remaining conditions and they correspond with high fat, salt and sugar consumption. This simplifies things and provides flexibility during meal times. For example, soup noodles contain less salt and oil than the dry version; to reduce my sodium intake even more, I don't finish the broth, but it's safe to enjoy spoonfuls of it. I don't feel deprived of deliciousness, I take care of my health at the same time, and I'm able to watch Mike Chen make noodles look amazing.

Whaddya know, December is already here (it's 1 December today in this region) and this means I haven't had fastfood for almost 5 months (the last time I ate some was on 4 July). I won't be feasting nor merrymaking this month since I don't celebrate Xmas. The public holiday will be spent catching up on rest, bonding with Pa and getting something yummy to eat. Celebrations begin next February when Chinese New Year arrives. I can't wait for the rowdy festivities and fresh vibes of a brand new beginning!

As I reflect on the past 12 months, I continue to pray for a ceasefire in Gaza and a two-state policy to be implemented so that Palestinian civilians can look forward to going home or, at the very least, building one. I pray for 2023 to come to a less turbulent end so that countries can focus on tackling sticky inflation, especially the much higher prices of essentials. I pray that 2024 will be a much more peaceful year. These are my wishes as we journey through December. 下次见!

The Ledge #554: New Releases
Everybody knows the drill by now. The first Friday of the month means it's new release night at The Ledge headquarters (aka my bedroom). Somewhat weirdly, though, is that this February episode is technically the first new release show of the year. But that's due to the Teenage Kicks subtheme necessitating a December 30 airing of the January new release show. Make sense?
Speaking of "Teenage Kicks", I'm so happy that this week's submission is by Sixgun Republic leader Christopher Chancey! He's got sort of a rockabilly vibe going through his little version, and I love the use of a piano! Chancey also submitted an old cover of "Sonic Reducer" his band put out back in 2007. Thanks Christopher!!!
Do you have a version of this seminal tune to submit? Do you have a little bit of time you can set aside to record a track to air? Please submit it to me! I'm so blown away by the reaction to "52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks"! A few bands have already promised to forward a submission in the near future, but the more versions the better! If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected]
