୨୧ MAKING ME SICK .ᐟ

Tumblr media
ever since last night, you’ve been feeling like your intestines had a death wish against you. your nose was stuffy, throat sore, and worst of all, your freaking phone died, and the charger was too far for your aching body to reach!
a comically loud groan left your chapped lips as you reminisced over the days where you could properly breath and swallow.
‘good times,’ you mumbled to yourself, before going back to wallowing in your sorrow.
a small, sudden knock on your bedroom door ruined your despairing, making you upset. “go away!” you shouted like the angsty, brooding teenager you currently were.
you heard a tsk, then, “fine, i’ll leave.” a voice you recognized to be sunghoon’s called from the other side of the door, followed by footsteps as he left.
knowing him, he probably expected you to urge him to stay. you might’ve been sick, but certainly not desperate, so you stayed put, slowly falling back asleep.
but, things sadly didn’t stay peaceful for long.
your door flew open, and there stood sunghoon, staring at you with a prideful glint in his eye and a smirk to match, like he was your savior or something. his expression made you scoff and roll your eyes.
“i prayed upon my lucky stars that you’d leave me alone, why are you here?” you grumbled, running your fingers through your messy hair.
“that’s certainly one way to welcome guests…” sunghoon sighed with mock disappointment, just like a parent would to their misbehaving child.
“oh please, you come into my room, ruin my self-pitying session, and then expect me to like, i don’t know, praise you or something? as if!” sunghoon clearly didn’t get the message (which was to get out!), because he completely dismissed your words and walked forward, settling himself on the edge of your bed.
“this is forced entry, y’know?” you mumbled, nudging sunghoon with your foot in fruitless attempts to push him off your bed, but he didn’t budge.
“anyways, i came over because i noticed you weren’t at school today, so i asked your brother where you were, and he told me you were sick; i felt bad.” sunghoon explained shyly. he gently grabbed your shoulder to help prop you up against your headboard, and the softness of his delicate tone and touch surprised you. you quickly dropped your attitude (not really), due to sudden a wave of guilt that overcame you.
“you felt bad? oh, so now what? you’re going to talk to me about your amazing day without me at school and hope that makes me feel bette—“ your snarky insult got interrupted by a fit of unpleasant coughs. gosh, did sunghoon have a voodoo doll over you or what?
sunghoon stared at you with what something that resembled concern displayed on his face (you never knew when it came to him). he awkwardly pats your back, avoiding eye contact to spare you from any embarrassment. once your coughs reduce to mere sniffles, he reached back into his bag, digging around for something; you peered over at him out of curiosity.
he pulled out a bottle of newly bought grape medicine and a dvd of one of your favorite ‘00s movies, ‘27 dresses.’ “i know you don’t like grape, but it’s the only thing they had.” you bit back a smile at the way sunghoon’s voice got smaller and his cheeks got redder; it was cute.
“also, i heard you geeking about this movie like the nerd you are, and i decided to get it for you; it was on sale, so.” sunghoon held up the dvd, and you grinned, taking the box from his hand to examine it.
“really? thanks! i don’t know what happened to you, but you’re being weirdly nice…” you teased, to which sunghoon responded with something along the lines of how you should stop being ungrateful and that he was just trying to make you feel better. it made you wonder: had he always been this nice? why did you dislike him so much, anyway?
a dose of medicine in front of your eyes distracted you from your thoughts. “drink this.” sunghoon urged, and you did. the uncomfortable taste of grape on your tongue was quickly washed away by a sip of water (of course, provided by sunghoon.)
after that, you impatiently grabbed your computer, eager to watch your movie.
sunghoon cleared his throat and stood up, “well, i think i’ll leave now. enjoy your movie though, nerd.” just like that, it seemed he was back to annoying you. but this time, it didn’t make you mad; rather, it made you laugh.
“wait!” you held onto sunghoon’s wrist, gently pulling him back towards you. the confused expression on his face beckoned for you to continue. “do you want to maybe watch this movie with me? like, as a thanks for… caring.”
biting the inside of your cheek, you half-expected sunghoon to say no. so you were surprised when he smiled at you and walked back, sitting down once again in your bed, but this time a little bit closer to you, prompting you to throw your cozy blanket over sunghoon.
“okay, i guess i will, as long as you don’t get me sick, too!” sunghoon pretended to be annoyed, but it must’ve been obvious that he didn’t mind being with you; the way he smiled a little every time you giggled at his comments didn’t really help conceal his happiness.
“oh shut up, we both know you have nowhere else to be tonight; just enjoy the movie, sunghoon.”

You and Bucky were silent as you closed your laptop. What could one say after watching a person you knew, personally, rip through a group of people as though they were wrapping paper on Christmas morning? There were no words.
After several long minutes, Bucky finally spoke. “After seeing that,” he said, “I think it’s all the more reason to make sure you don’t leave this safehouse unless you absolutely have to.”
“Yeah,” you said, devoid of all your previous fight. How could you argue with him about your safety after having seen that?
Bucky looked at you in surprise, as though he had expected you to challenge him. He nodded curtly. “Good,” he said. “Alright. We need a game plan. Did you come up with any leads about that Chloe girl that we can follow up on?”
You sighed. “Yeah,” you said, opening up a new tab in your browser. “So, Chloe mentioned her family was having money problems. I was able to figure out where her mom and step father do their banking; I thought we could take a look at their accounts, see if there’s any unusual activity that might point to them getting a share of her auction price. Then maybe we could trace the deposit back to whoever did the sale.”
“You think her parents knowingly participated in trafficking their own kid?” Bucky asked in horror. “Pocket, that’s dark.”
You avoided looking at him as you opened up a backdoor into the accounts in question. “You’d be surprised what people are willing to do when money gets involved. Not even a mother/daughter bond is immune from that kind of greed.”
Bucky’s gaze on you was almost tangible in its intensity. “I’m sorry. It’s so hard for me to envision a mother betraying her child like that; sometimes I forget you had to live it.”
“But you told Carthage about it,” you said softly. “At the mission debrief. When she said trafficking was below our paygrade.”
“Sweetheart,” Bucky turned your chin so you were facing him. “I told her that human trafficking was something you and Nat both cared very deeply about stopping; that’s it.” He frowned. “I don’t expect you to believe me and that’s okay, but I would never divulge your past to anyone. Not when I know how few people you trusted with that information. I just wanted her to stop acting like it was some kinda game and to treat it as seriously as it deserved to be treated.”
“Oh,” you said after a moment. Something in his words rang true, but there was still the lingering doubt that he was being honest. “Don’t worry about, Barnes,” you said, studiously avoiding eye contact as you breached the bank’s security system. “It’s fine. I’m fine.”
You could feel him staring at you, and you didn’t need to be looking back to envision the look he was giving you— the one that let you know he thought you were full of shit. Fortunately, he allowed your lie to pass without another word while you continued to breach the bank’s system.
“Okay, I’m in,” you said after a moment. Bucky got up and came to stand behind you, looking at your monitor over your shoulder.
“Anything?” he asked.
You scrolled through Chloe’s stepfather’s transaction history. Liquor stores, smoke shops, some escort services. “Real classy guy,” you murmured. And then, you hit it: the night Chloe had left the club for good, there was a substantial deposit made to the account in the amount of $250,000.
“Holy shit,” you whispered. “I figured he might get a cut, but I had no idea it would be that much.”
Bucky let out a long, low whistle. “If that’s their finder’s fee, I can’t imagine what the final sale was for.”
You were furiously copying down the depositing account’s information. “I’m going to send this info back to Nat,” you told him. “See if they can reverse-search it and find out where the money came from. Once we know the source, we might be able to break into their systems, get info on who won the auctions. Maybe some of the other girls are still alive…” Your voice trailed off. You were too jaded to allow yourself to hope you could save all of them, but if you could save even one…
Bucky began moving toward the apartment’s front door, grabbing his leather jacket from where he’d hung it on a hook.
“Where are we going?” You asked him, closing your laptop and standing up.
“We aren’t going anywhere,” he informed you as he put the jacket on. “I’m going to go have a little chat with Chloe’s stepfather, see if there’s any additional information he’d like to generously offer us. You are going to stay here, locked securely behind the door and not opening it for any reason until I get back.”
You opened your mouth to argue, but the images of Jade moving through the Hydra compound, slaughtering everyone in her path rose to your mind. You nodded. “Yeah,” you said. “I’ll stay here.”
“Thank you.” Bucky released a relieved sigh, then walked over to you, kissing the top of your head. “If anything happens, call me, and I’ll head straight back. If Carthage shows up, there’s a gun in the bedside table. Aim to kill.”
“Obviously,” you told him. “I’ve only been fantasizing about it since I found out about Russia.”
“I’m being serious, doll,” Bucky said. “Now that we’ve seen what she’s capable of, I don’t want you taking any chances.”
“Yeah,” you said as you walked him to the door and opened it for him, “I was being 100% serious, too.”

Bruce trying, and failing in the process, to NOT look like an adolescent father with his children
Tumblr media
(Bruce probably, since Battison is of slim but muscular build, has a fairly young appearance by his own account.
Thus, when he adopted Dick, anyone who saw them together would no doubt think that Bruce was simply reclaiming the lost son he had during his rebellious teenage years. And I don't blame them, Dick would have been 11 - 12 years old when he was adopted, if Battison in The Batman, is 26 -27 years old, Bruce could have "had" Dick during his 15 or 16 years)
Sooooooo
**********************************************************************************************
The best scenarios, where Bruce fails miserably at not looking or sounding like a teen dad, was mostly with Richard. Since he was the first to be adopted and all that.
When Richard started going to school, he would surely make comments like "Dad prefers that we call him Bruce. He doesn't look like a dad, though."
Bruce can't pick up Richard alone anymore, because he's always a few minutes late, and with the car blasting music (definitely rock or metal), and he has dark circles (with a bit of leftover Batman eyeshadow) . All the other parents think he came from some late party.
Bruce could definitely make a poker face (like the one in the Pikachu meme) when a parent mentions the word "Back in my day..."
Dick would unintentionally mention that he goes out late at night and comes back exhausted and in makeup (from the mask Batman wears) in the mornings.
Bruce, and Alfred, don't really understand the other parents' obsession with activities like bake sales or football games... Bruce because he never showed any interest in it as a kid, and Alfred because he's still resentful that Mrs. Fittersmith beat him. at the cupcake sale from when Bruce was a kid.
Bruce would be trending on social media just because he wanted to admit Dick to the hospital for a simple fever.
Bruce would call Alfred every time he doesn't understand what Dick is saying while crying...he still needs a translator.
"yes Alfred, Richard and I find it extremely necessary to buy all the horror movies in the store... but we would appreciate it if you made us hot chocolate with chocolate chip pancakes to avoid having nightmares"
"No Alfred, Richard and I find it unnecessary to wear some stupid ties for today's gala... It has nothing to do with the fact that neither of us knows how to tie one!"
Bruce and Dick would put on a poker face when asked by a parent (probably a friend of Dick's) why the latest Kardashian scandal was such a trend. (Dick has the face of seeing the Kardashian from the first seasons and keeps Bruce up to date)

From the Young Wizards universe: an update
Tumblr media
Let me start by thanking everybody who saw the previous posting discussing the changes to come to the YoungWizards.com domain, and who took the time to get back to me with their thoughts. Some response to those (and action on them) will turn up in this post. So first of all, let me answer what are likely to be some of the most immediate questions, and then get into some detail on present forward planning.
This will get a bit long, so here’s a cut...
Is there another Young Wizards novel in the offing?
Yes, there is! YW #11 (as yet untitled) is plotted, and is in the process of being written.
How soon will we see it?
The simplest answer to this right now is "Not in 2021." The book is not presently under contract to any publisher, and I'm not inclined to go much further forward with it until that situation is sorted out. Also, I've set aside the 2019-2020 period to deal primarily with other fictional universes of mine -- specifically the Middle Kingdoms LGBTQ universe -- and that work will be going on through the end of this year and into early 2021.
Okay, how soon will YW #11 happen after 2021?
Right now there's no telling. I'm sorry not to have anything more definite for you at this point. I think, though, that I can safely promise you that the book will turn out to have been worth waiting for, when it does finally go to press... as issues are being resolved in this work that have been hanging fire since So You Want To Be A Wizard. As regards this one, "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night..." seems like the right note to strike.
Are we going to see anything new in the Young Wizards universe in the shorter term?
That's the plan, yes! Also in the writing process right now is Interim Errantry 3: A Day At The Crossings. This book will contain (as UK/Irish people might say) "what it says on the tin": a detailed look at a 27-hour day at the Crossings intercontinual worldgating facility—an 80K-100K-word "braided novel" with several main storylines. The plan at the moment (assuming that other presently-running projects don't interfere) is for IE3:ADATC to be published (in print and ebook form) in Q3 of 2021. (If you don't know about the previous works in this group, they are Interim Errantry and Interim Errantry 2: On Ordeal.)
...About those other ongoing projects, BTW: besides Tales of the Five #3: The Librarian, which is (finally!) nearing completion, I do have other work on my desk that's either too early in its development to be discussed, or that I can't talk about for contractual or similar reasons. Sometimes stuff under contract unavoidably interferes with stuff I'm doing on my own nickel... so please bear that in mind.
...Now on to less "new", but still interesting issues. Some of you will have seen the post that went up at Ebooks Direct a couple/few weeks back regarding the effects of Brexit on our ebook sales business. The Young Wizards books went into their first non-North American English language editions via the UK's Transworld/Corgi all the way back in 1991... and the thought that the UK YW fans (a steadfast, patient and faithful bunch) were going to be shut out of access to the YW-verse by the irrationality of their government has been bothering me.
That said, there's no avoiding the likelihood that the UK government is having too much fun painting itself into an increasingly Europhobic corner to see sense before the end of the year and cooperate in establishing something like a Brexit-with-deal, as opposed to the catastrophic no-deal option yawning before them. So this has become an opportunity to advance some plans that have been bubbling around here for a while.
Therefore: as of January 1, 2021, we'll be launching the revised-and-updated Young Wizards New Millennium edition novels in both paperback and ebook formats worldwide*, via Amazon. (And yes, I know: I share a lot of people's ambivalence regarding using this particular distribution entity. But right now it's the best way to go forward with this effort and still maintain control over which countries and territories are in play—as I must do to be in compliance with my existing contracts.)
A bit more detail on this. I can't independently release the NMEs in print format in North America and the Philippines, because those rights are held by the present US/Canadian traditional publisher, Harcourt. Nor can I "go wide" on the NME ebook rights in the North American market: similar (if a bit more complex) reasons. But, that said... both print and ebook rights in the rest of the world are another matter.
So starting January 1, 2021, if you're in any country that is not the USA, Canada or the Philippines—barring any unexpected difficulties at the big-river end of things—you will be able to buy print versions of the Young Wizards New Millennium Editions via Amazon. (Hardcovers remain an exercise for some time in mid-2021.) Amazon is presently putting in place ways to deal with the UK's Brexit madness, which will relieve me of the effort of handling the paperwork-and-VAT complications at my end.
An additional bonus: this tranche of books and ebooks will also include Games Wizards Play, which until now has not been available through sales channels anywhere outside of North America. ...In countries which have previously had English- or other-language versions of the Young Wizards texts (France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Russia, China...) the books will be branded as New Millennium editions. In other countries, the NMEs will be the default editions and will not need to wear any additional branding.
We are also looking at doing outside-of-North-America audiobooks of the NMEs... but since there's no publisher to finance them (or more accurately, I'm the publisher), I must bear the cost. And if we're going to match the quality of the US-based Recorded Books audiobooks, it's not going to be cheap. (In particular, I would really like to retain the fabulous Christina Moore, who has done all the YW books so far. We'll have to see if that's possible.) This side of the project, therefore, is one that is unlikely to start up before 2022, and will depend on the success of the NMEs' world publication to finance them. So we'll discuss this aspect of things further in a year or so.
Anyway: news about the progress of this project as a whole (which involves creating new print versions of the ten main-sequence books and new cover art, etc., for all of them) will be posted on YoungWizards.com and the soon-to-open YoungWizardsSeries.com as it becomes available. So watch those spaces for more details! This is going to be a ton of work, but it's been waiting in the wings for a long time and I'm excited to be able to get it going at last.
Other somewhat less-fraught YW news:
After some consideration, I've decided that the Young Wizards discussion forums should indeed be retained, updated, and polished-up preparatory for a relaunch. This work will take place over the next couple/few months as events permit, as it's going to be (technically speaking) a bit challenging and will also require a moderately significant cash input for new software and augmented server space.
...So, to finish up: Some of you will be wanting to know how you can assist or speed one or more of these efforts. Right now the best thing you can do is go to Ebooks Direct and buy stuff. (In particular, theYW NME box set, which remains on sale at 50% off.) Or, if you're all stocked up, you can always use the buy-the-writer-a-coffee option over here. (Among other things, now I have to run off and buy a couple of blocks-of-10-ISBNs for the new YW paperbacks/ebooks, yay...)
If those aren't methods of assistance that suit you at the moment, I'd ask that you'd pass the link to this post on to others who might be interested. Reblog it, if you saw it on Tumblr. Please and thank you!
And thanks for being interested, everybody! It's a pleasure to be doing this work for you. :)
*Except for North America and the Philippines. Weird, but that's how it is.
(meanwhile: early noodling with YW NME International cover design and concept art is already under way...)

WHG 15 Post-Games Imposter Syndrome Part 28
This is a couple days after part 27! Tagging: @ratracechronicler, @maple-writes, @pen-of-roses (also thanks for Conor!), and @thoughts-of-nora!
Just as Aurora said, I was scheduled for an interview a few days later. It probably was to announce the masquerade, but I was the only former tribute to be having an interview this time. So, what else did they have planned?
I walked into room where Priscilla Cristal would be, but she wasn’t there. I frowned at the older man who stood off to the side, spreading out a floor length, midnight blue dress. And no coat or hat.
He looked normal enough. He had the same color eyes as me, and he looked kind of familiar. But I couldn’t place where he was from. He noticed me standing there and bowed. “I’m sorry, Ms. Reeves. Ms. Cristal sends her regrets, but she is swamped with other orders, so she is not available to be your stylist anymore. My name is Dior Hawthorne, and I am a stylist working under Ms. Cristal.” He held out his hand for me to shake.
I nodded and walked forward, shaking his hand. “It is a pleasure to meet you.” I looked over at the dress and cocked an eyebrow. “Unfortunately, you must have missed a memo. I only wear pirate outfits. Or at least a long coat and hat.”
His lips quirked down. “I would love to fulfill your request, however, the Capitol has required me to stick to a certain outfit. I am not able to change what they have required.”
Shit. What the hell were they planning? I just nodded and got changed when he left the room, and he came back in to work on my hair and makeup. It was pretty standard, at least nothing flashy (especially because I had finally gotten rid of all the fucking glitter from last interview yesterday). And he pulled up all my unruly hair into a bun. Wow. Now, that was a metaphor if I ever saw one.
When he was done, he hesitantly put a hand on my shoulder. “Stay strong, Ms. Reeves. I’ve only heard whispers of what they’re planning, and I am not particularly fond of it.”
I frowned a little. He was chatty, wasn’t he? “You might want to be careful about who you tell about what you’re feeling about the Capitol. For all you know, I could love the Capitol.”
He laughed a little and winked. “I think I know my own blood better than that.” And he left.
Wait, what? Blood? Like related? What did he mean by that? I had to push that out of my mind, however. I had to deal possibly with Bystander and whatever the Capitol was going to throw at me now.
And Bystander wasn’t around. So, I just walked over to the elevator I would take to get on stage. The Peacekeepers waved me on, and I walked out into the flashing lights and screaming audience with a smile on my face.
“Welcome to a very special interview with our very own tribute, Triel!” Caesar paused and winked at the crowd as I sat down. “So, you must have noticed that Triel never really talked about her family during the pre-Games, or even the post-Games. There is a reason for that. She is actually an orphan. At least that’s what she believes.”
The crowd sighed, and Caesar pouted his lips in fake sympathy. Oh boy. What were they planning? “She grew up in District 10, away from any luxury or love or family.” Sympathy from the crowd. “It must have been horrible for you, Triel.” He looked over at me with fake sorrow, and the smile slipped from my lips. That was the best I could do with the shit Caesar was saying.
“Well, I did some digging, and I found out that it’s not entirely true that Triel is an orphan. It’s such a closely guarded secret, but I found out who Triel’s mother and father are.” He paused. “Do you want me to tell you?” The audience roared, and Caesar pulled out something that was signed by my mother. He showed it to me first, and my eyes widened as I read it. Was this true? Or did the Capitol lie again?
Then he held it up and waved it for the audience. “I figured out who Triel’s mother was, and I understand why the Capitol wanted to keep it a secret. If someone had figured it out while she was still unsafe, who knows what would have happened to her? But now, she’s safe, so I can reveal the information.” He paused for dramatic effect again. “Her mother is Maria Shasten.”
The audience gasped. Made sense, she was probably a celebrity in the Capitol because she had been chosen by the Shades. The people with the magic that the Shades didn’t hold onto were contracted out to basically do party tricks.
“But that’s not all.” Caesar smirked over at me. “Yes, being the daughter of one of the ones bestowed with magic by the Shades would be reason enough for someone to take her, but I figured out who her father is. And he is none other than a highly important assistant to President Snow,” paused for dramatic effect again, “Creston Fallion! And he is here today!”
He walked on stage with a smirk. He was known as a cruel advisor to Snow, at least among the people of the districts. He only cared about what would entertain him, and he was one of the main supporters of more brutal and deadly Hunger Games. But I had to admit, he did look enough like me that people would believe it. Shit.
I stood up when he walked over to me, and he took my hand and kissed the top of it, all the while smirking at me. Then he turned to Caesar. “I am so happy to finally meet my daughter in person. I have loved what I have seen of her so far on the TV. She is endearing and witty. I can’t wait to talk with her myself.”
“Triel, I should probably call you Triel Fallion,” hell no you shouldn’t, “how do you feel now that you know you are part of the Capitol instead of stuck with the legacy of the districts?”
I forced a smile on my face as I kept looking at Fallion. It was most likely a lie. Churi wouldn’t be so pissed off if my father had been a Capitol official. But still. Even the remote chance that I was related to a piece of shit like him made my stomach lurch. And would I have to spend time with him now? Brilliant. “Absolutely excited! I had no idea I had such an esteemed family. I have been alone for so long, I can’t imagine having a family again.”
They seemed satisfied with that. Caesar looked away from me, back to the crowd. “And just to make it official, Creston has agreed to adopt Triel so she will never have to worry about the districts again.” Fallion squeezed my hand tighter, and my stomach dropped. “She is one of us now, and she always will be!” The crowd roared, and he pulled me into a hug. He was holding me too tight. Shit.
“In celebration of all the wonderful announcements the past few weeks, there will be a masquerade in four days, and the former tributes will all attend! Tickets will go on sale tomorrow, and there are a limited number, so you better act fast!”
The crowd roared, and Caesar gestured at me one last time as Fallion basically pushed me off the stage. When we were out of view of the cameras, he leaned closer to me, still smirking. “I’ve heard all about your sharp tongue from Aurora. I think you’ll amuse me tonight.”
My stomach dropped again, and I couldn’t find my voice. I actually had to be near this trash of a human being now? And I couldn’t do anything about it. Shit.
“7/10 for the lovely lady, I’m sure the shock is the only reason for a not perfect score tonight, but for the unfortunate—pardon me, unexpected side character I’d hesitate to even give a 1/10 really. Far too smug, and I’m the one saying it.”
I jumped and looked up to see Bystander leaning against the wall, studying his nails. I frowned. “What the f—”
Fallion clamped his hand over my mouth and shook his head. “Such naughty language. No daughter of mine will speak like that.” I tried to push back away from him, but he just grabbed my arm in a too tight grip, while still keeping his hand over my mouth. Then he looked over at Bystander. “And I don’t believe you’re needed. I’ll keep her in line tonight.”
Bystander stood up, and his grin was sharp and all teeth. As he stepped slowly forward, his eyes flashed, and some other parts of his face seemed to shift back and forth in the blink of an eye. What the hell? I just stared at him as he kept his attention on Fallion. “But why silence such entertaining wit and charm, truly it’s part of how she’s even gotten here, isn’t it? And I’m almost never needed, and yet I think this is one of those rare occasions where I am. You see, I’ve never been a fan of mortals thinking too highly of themselves, it’s such an obnoxious noise, don’t you think, my dear? Now I do so hope those idiots have informed you of just what roles we are all supposed to be playing? If not allow me to be the first to inform you that you’ve played yours for the night, so please get. Your hands. Off. Her.”
Fallion just stood up taller too. “I am one of the people in charge of this foolish endeavor to make the Capitol happy about what happened, and you are beneath me. So, leave.”
Bystander laughed, cold and humorless. “I do not work for the Capitol or the Shades for that matter, and I am beneath very few. I also don’t like repeating myself, though I will give you just one more chance, because I am curious what exactly you think you can do that Churi and our star have not already done?” He seemed to take only one step, but he was already in front of Fallion, still smiling with his hands clasped behind his back. “Or have you asked about my sudden inclusion in all this? Perhaps you haven’t been trusted quite as much as you think. Not as important as you think. Or maybe you’re just not bright enough to heed the warnings.”
I flinched when Fallion let go of me, his face contorted in rage. “You little peasant.” He went to slap Bystander. Was Fallion going to be killed before my eyes? And did I feel bad about that at all? No. I just watched with morbid curiosity.
Bystander grabbed Fallion’s arm and then wrapped a hand around his throat the next second. “Tsk, tsk, I do hate this part, here I normally prefer to avoid these encounters with words, but clearly you’re worth even less of my time than I initially thought.” He lifted Fallion up above his head, as if he weighed nothing. Bystander turned back to face me, and all I could do was stare. I should have been used to that, since he had acted so nonchalant with me threatening his life before. He sounded bored when he spoke. “Oh, I guess we are beneath him in this instance. While I do hate being proven wrong, I suppose I can accept this instance. Now, can I let you go or will try that again? After all I’m sure if anybody wished to question they would find this was self defense since you went to strike me first.” He smirked up at Fallion with a raised eyebrow.
Fallion was actually smart enough to shake his head and run off after Bystander let him go. He was…actually gone. I shouldn’t have to deal with him tonight. I fell back against the wall and sunk against the floor. “Thanks,” I whispered.
He waved it off, and stared off after anyone who dared linger. “That was hardly any energy, Triel, still far more than he was worth though, but far less than what I’m willing to exert for—well never mind that.” He looked back at me, actually looking serious as he looked me over. “Do you require any sort of medical care, or is it simply shock of the idiocy of that performance?”
All that I needed was a distraction. I took a deep breath and pushed the thoughts out of my mind. I stood up and smirked over at him, brushing off the question. “Well, that interview was certainly a show. How would you rate that reveal? It was pretty standard as ‘learning of secret family you never knew about’ goes.”
He snorted and rolled his eyes. “Boringly so I’ll agree, I dare not even rate it. Honestly, can they not learn new tricks, after all, you’re already their precious darling considering everything else that has led up to this point. Besides, it takes very little digging to uncover the lies of it all. At least it served the purpose of the masquerade being justified, as if they truly need that. Still, it will only make you more valuable to them, if only to keep you safe until then. Tell me, have they asked for how you wish to dress for it? I fear a pirate will break the illusion of mystery for the night.”
I shook my head. “No, they’ll probably choose my outfit again. Like this one.” I eyed him. “Do you find it to your tastes?”
“Hmm, it hardly appears as you, or at least the you I have seen before, more styled to appear as another vapid member of them. Though I suppose that was the point in all this wasn’t it? To somehow prove that you’re no different while also holding you on a pedestal?”
“You think those costumes were any different? I didn’t even pick out my last costume. You did. So, then, what would you prefer me to be wearing?” I leaned a little closer to him and lowered my voice. Distraction would be appreciated.
“Those others were meant to make you appear different from them, even if they were nothing more than costumes as you put it. But they were still similar enough to the style you yourself chose. As for my preferences, well perhaps you will get the chance to see them soon enough. I assure you, they will be more to your tastes than the Capitol image presented previously, costumes have their uses after all but I tend towards a certain level of beauty and charm.” He looked over at me pointedly, smirking.
I laughed a little. “Tell that to your reaping outfit. That lacked both beauty and charm.”
“A costume, a role to play to get what I want. But tell me, do I lack those now? Be honest, I would hate to miss out on your sharp tongue.” He spread his arms so I could see well.
And, damn it, he looked good. A nice, sharp suit that wasn’t gaudy or even stood out at all. But I couldn’t actually admit that. I cocked my head and smirked. “Still a 6/10.”
“Tell me, my dear little thief, what would I have to do to get a perfect score from you?”
Maybe I’d admit it eventually. “You’ll just have to wait and find out.” I smirked over at him. “Anyway, why did you come see me after this interview? Did you just miss my company?” I cocked an eyebrow.
“Will you believe me if I say yes? It’s no secret that I enjoy it so with all our previous times together.”
Yeah right. I faked a gasp. “I’m flattered. No ulterior motives whatsoever?”
“Oh of course there are ulterior motives, but then are we ever truly without them?”
I smirked again. “So, that means that you didn’t just miss my company, so no, I don’t believe you.”
“Hm, but perhaps missing your company was the reason that inspired me to come in the first place, and the rest I was hopeful to attain in addition afterwards?”
I eyed him. Maybe I could get some unreliable information from him? “And what would you be hoping to gain besides my company?”
“Entertainment of course. Though I admit, the fool was more of an annoyance than that. Still, more information was gained for later plans.”
“Any chance you’d give away any information on those plans?”
“Interfering with those of others, research of my own kind, and reuniting with old friends. I’m afraid anything more would come with some sort of price.”
I perked up and smirked wider. Could seduction work possibly? “And what kind of price would that be?”
“For others? A favor of equal importance to the information. For you?” He turned to face me more, smirking back. “The right question and,” he stepped a little closer, “a kiss.”
What right question? Was it a specific question or just not asking an obvious question? It was a price I was willing to pay. Still, I started with a pitiful attempt, making sure to sound teasing as I stepped closer too, so that we were inches from each other, and placed a hand on his chest. He didn’t flinch this time. “Please?”
He laughed. “Oh my little thief, you can do so much better than that, though I commend the effort.”
So, I actually had to try, damn it. I thought for a little bit, mulling over his words. “These old friends, are they Aleksis and Reine? And are you reuniting yourself with them, or with someone else?” Two questions. Would he require two prices?
He grinned. “And there’s that clever head of yours that’s just so fascinating, catching the ambiguity in the wording. In answer to the former, yes but they are not the only ones. The latter can be answered in a similar way I suppose, for I am but one of the people in this. Now for the rest of the price?”
Wait. If he answered both of those, would he answer more questions? I held up a hand before he could lean in more. I had more questions. Could I ask them? “Wait, if I give the rest of the price now, will I be able to ask more questions? And pay another price? Or is that it? Instead, could I ask the questions now and then just have the rest of the prices all in a row?”
He inclined his head, looking thoughtful. “And you would pay all of them? Deals with the devil are a very dangerous thing little thief, the consequences of breaking them even more so.” He sounded teasing, but there was something dark underneath.
I was probably being foolish, but the promise of information was too tempting. I wouldn’t ask too many questions, though. “If it would still be kisses, by all means, I’ll pay it.”
“Then ask your questions.”
Yes! I tried to keep my expression neutral, even as the smile tugged at my lips. “I know all about how you’ve been interfering in my plans, but how have you been interfering in other plans? And what is the purpose of this research in the grand scheme of things?”
“Do you remember my comment of being the devil on your shoulder?” Yes, he just referenced it a little bit ago. “I whisper in the Capitol’s ear about what they should do with all of you, tell them how beneficial something will be to them, or dissuade more attempts to tighten their excuse for a leash because it will not earn them the obedience they think they have. I also keep them from gaining more knowledge of our friends despite their efforts to obtain it.” He gave me a pointed look again. “As for the research, in the grand scheme of things as you say, it lets me know more about the players in the game, where to push and where to back off from. As well as what they have already learned in regards to myself.”
I nodded. That was just so much to unpack. How much of this shit had been his idea, but also how much had he stopped them from doing worse? And how much could I really believe? Not something to think about while I was still in his presence. I could accidentally ask another question. I leaned in closer to him. “So, that’s four, I believe. I’m ready to start paying the price.” My smirk came back in full force.
He smirked back and leaned closer, but he didn’t kiss me right away. Instead, he backed me into the wall and slowly, methodically found all the pins in my hair and took them out, as he leaned closer and closer to me, until my hair fell free, and he laughed in my ear. “That’s more like you, my little thief.”
Before I could say anything snarky back, he smashed his lips to mine, and I automatically melted. Damn dreams. One hand ran through my hair, while his other hand brushed along my back. Hell, if I had to just kiss him to get information that actually sounded truthful, I wouldn’t mind it.
It was as intense as all of the others, so when he broke away, my legs almost gave out from under me as I gasped for breath.
Once I caught my breath, I glanced up at him. “I highly doubt that’s considered four.”
“Of course not, but it would be such a shame to waste them all at once don’t you think?” Damn it, I agreed. The jerk. “And I’d hate for the Capitol to find either of us left unaware because of my actions here in the hallway.”
I laughed. “Do you charge late fees? I’d hate to have negative consequences due to no fault of my own.”
“Not as long as I know the debt will be paid by the end of our relationship.” He winked.
I smirked back. Whenever the hell that would be. “Oh don’t worry.” I leaned closer again, just inches from his face. “I wouldn’t dream of leaving any debts unpaid before I leave.”
He laughed. “I’m counting on it and looking forward to it.”
As good a time as any to make my exit. I bowed and headed off, before he could see my face growing hot. Shit, he was charming.

BIOGRAPHY:
They say heavy is the head that wears the crown, and while the Blackwoods were not royalty by any sense of the word, the name still carried with it weight. It wasn’t just a name, but an expectation. A legacy. And for Nate, it was his biggest adversary.
Richard Nathaniel Blackwood Jr. had been set up to fail from the beginning. In a true show of what Nate believed for all of his childhood to be narcissism, his father had bestowed his name and every single impossible expectation upon him. For reasons he wouldn’t understand until early adulthood, an impossible chasm existed between himself and the man he so desperately wanted to impress.
Gwen Davis was a nineteen year old rebellious daughter of a conservative mayoral candidate. She’d long since perfected the art of getting whatever it was she desired and on a hot night in mid-July of 1989, that was Stephen Weiss. The two shared a night together and went their separate ways. It probably shouldn’t have been such an unexpected surprise when she wound up pregnant, and even less so when it seemed that Gwen was the only one interested in seeing the baby carried to term. In lieu of actually being a parent, Stephen and his team sent along a large sum of money to keep his involvement a secret. That was more than okay with the Davises, who were enraged by the news, worried more about the threat to her father’s mayoral position than the son Gwen would be bringing into the world. They went to work pulling strings and trying to cover their tracks, the answer found in a marriage between Gwen and the son of a family friend, Richard Blackwood. Though the Blackwoods didn’t come from old money-- its origin only two generations back-- they had their hands in a little bit of everything. The union hadn’t come out of nowhere (which made the haste in which they married less suspect), but it was not necessarily what either of them would have chosen for themselves. It was a marriage of convenience, of favors, and of power.
Life was… fine. Nate was born after a lengthy labor and they settled into a routine that worked for a while, but then Gwen found that she was still too young, too rebellious, to be tied down by a child and resentment set in. It was a different kind of resentment than the kind wielded by the man who masqueraded as his father, but it was felt nonetheless. But again, that was fine. He had a wet nurse and then an au pair and they were fine-- if not a bit too easy to manipulate. And yes, it seemed that was a trait passed down beautifully from mother to son. It was a craft to be honed and perfected, practiced on the unsuspecting children and teachers at school.
As Nate grew, so too did his need for acceptance. It wasn't until he began attending Camp Walt Whitman that he realized most families didn't appear nearly as fractured as his felt. He'd thought the impossibility that was impressing his father was simply a part of the deal. He'd thought yearning for acknowledgement to be just another component in the equation of family. The realization had him cultivating a resentment of his own. He became angry, began to act out in ways he hadn’t before, began to draw the kind of attention to himself that turned little Richard Jr. into the butt of a small dick joke. So he became Nate. Richard Jr. hadn’t known any better, but Nate? Nate knew how to charm, how to sweet talk, how to channel his endless rage into a symphony loud enough to gain the attention of his parents.
The rift between himself and his father only began to grow larger and while he’d go to his grave swearing he didn’t give a single fuck about what his father thought of him, it seemed that some days, that longing for acceptance was the only thing driving him forward. His father was a businessman, so he tried to show an interest in business. His father liked golfing, so he practiced alone in his room with a solo cup and a club stolen from an old set stashed away in the attic. None of it mattered.
So, eventually, he did the opposite. He leaned into the role of the slighted son. He got drunk at a party meant to honor his father and some new business venture or big sale or who-gives-a-fuck, and aired his grievances to a pretty stranger. Reading his words in print the next morning had only solidified the notion for him that it was never about him, only about what he could offer. To her, it had been an exposé, to his father, it had been an embarrassment. The silent treatment that followed could be felt spanning coasts.
Right at the start of the summer before he went off to college, his world changed. In perhaps the least tactful way she could manage, his mother dropped the bomb about his biological father. It felt as though the floor had fallen out from underneath him. He didn’t know how to process or how to cope and he had no one he could talk to about it. So he did what he did best: he acted out. He stole his dad’s boat: a feat that ended with the vessel crashed into the docks and Nate in jail. Money made the problem go away, polished off his record, just in time for him to attend Brown.
He was good at college, he found. Maybe not so much the academia of it all, but the partying? Aced it. But still, that niggling need to please his father-- even if the man wasn’t really his father at all-- rotted in the back of his mind. It drove him to desperation in his professional life and found him fumbling through one bad venture after another. He made risky moves knowing that if only ONE came through, it could change everything. But they never did. Instead, he found himself on the knuckle end of an angry husband whose wife had apparently been Nate’s woman of the week. It was his father’s fiftieth birthday party and even though Nate hadn’t known she was married (though… it likely wouldn’t have mattered if he had), it changed nothing. The tenuous and tattered relationship with his father all but dissolved in that ballroom. He thought he’d known desperation before, but he knew then that the damage was irreparable. He had nothing to show for anything.
In a last ditch effort, Nate came up with a business plan. He emptied the trust left behind by his biological father-- money he promised himself he’d never touch-- and somehow managed to convince some acquaintances and bigwigs to invest money in his newest venture. It should have worked. It should have, but it didn’t. He lost everything: his money, their money. All of it. Gone. And because Nate has always been captain of good ideas, instead of facing the people whose money he lost, he tracked down the only child his sperm donor seemed to give a shit about. Sure, he was gone. But his money wasn’t. And he owed him that, at least, didn’t he?
Nate is written by Jamie.

Document-based Time-line: Before Jennifer Arrived at the Orphanage
Original date of the post: 23 of October, 2007.
Disclaimer: not my words, not my ideas, just reposting to spread and preserve.
“ This is an arrangement of the dated documents of Rule of Rose as a time-line, from the earliest document to the ones just prior to Jennifer’s arrival at the orphanage.
This is the time period between 25 April 1929 and 2 March 1930.
The GamesSpot/GameFAQs gamescript faq incorrectly claims that the letter exchange between Jennifer and Wendy began in 1928 (and declares, based on this incorrect date, that the “Joshua” of Gregory’s diary entries must be Jennifer). Although the dates on the letters exchanged between Jennifer and Wendy don’t mention the year, these letters could not possibly date from 1928 as Jennifer was living in the cellar of Gregory’s house when the correspondence began, but the airship that Jennifer flew on, and that crashed, killing Jennifer’s parents and resulting in Jennifer being rescued by Gregory, didn’t take flight until 1929. Therefore, Jennifer was not at Gregory’s house in 1928 and Jennifer was not exchanging letters with Wendy in 1928.
The first document of the time-line, by the way, is one that was overlooked in the GameSpot/GameFAQs game-script faq.
If I have made any errors, or have left out a document that should be here, please let me know in the “comments”.

Luxury Airship Missing!
England’s largest luxury airship, which just set sail on its virgin flight—a flight celebrated across the country with great fanfare—was reported today to have gone off course and is currently missing.
It is speculated that the vessel diverted from its course to avoid a low pressure system approaching from the south, but its whereabouts are still unknown.
Due to the heavy thunder and rain that have blanketed the area since yesterday, the search for the airship has faced many difficulties.

Calling the Unknown by Name: Helen Peters Nosworthy and the Naming of the Ouija
There are few objects that pull reactions from people as widespread, varied, and strong as the Ouija board. Since its official arrival in 1890 the lightweight board has been a symbol of horror, intrigue, mystery, wonder, and the source of countless stories from both seasoned paranormal professionals and the bravely curious. Although it is the subject of many questions, one of the most common queries about the board is also the most basic: where did the name “Ouija” come from?
In 1848 Spiritualism began to rage through America, heavily fueled by the claims of the Fox sisters of upstate New York who said they could communicate with the deceased through audible knocks in response to questions. Spiritualism was easily embraced. It did not go against any religious beliefs, it could be practiced in a variety of ways, and it made a desperately needed promise in the United States, the ability to communicate with the deceased at a time when death seemed to be constantly peering around every corner. With a life expectancy of less than sixty years, disease, and the Civil War ripping hundreds of thousands of souls from their families with no explanation or closure, the need to speak to the dead was high, but the results were not fast. Seances and waiting for knocks could be extremely time consuming and in an age newly acquainted with devices like the telegraph there was a deep desire for a faster way to receive messages from beyond the veil.
Tumblr media
Image of a séance circa late 1800s.
In 1886 the Associated Press began reporting on an answer to this slow Spiritualism problem, a board with letters, numbers, and a pointer that spelled out messages. Surprisingly, it took several years before someone saw the immense financial possibilities of producing these types of boards and the first to do so was Charles Kennard. In 1890 Kennard teamed up with four friends and formed the Kennard Novelty Company, exclusively dedicated to producing the new talking boards. There were some components missing from the new endeavor, for one, none of the four men had a connection to Spiritualism, but the bigger problem was that their device had no name. Fortunately, they did have a connection to someone who could help them with both.
It is a popular story that the name “Ouija” came from combining “Oui” and “Ja”, the French and German words for “yes” but the true origin of the name comes from Helen Peters Nosworthy. At the time of the board’s invention Helen Peters was sister-in-law to Elijah Bond, one of the four friends of Charles Kennard that helped bring the talking boards to the public. She was a stockholder in the company but she was also considered a “strong Medium” and when the discussion came up about what to call the talking boards Peters did the polite thing, she decided to ask the board itself. When she asked it what it wanted to be called the planchette moved to spell out O-U-I-J-A. When she asked the board what it meant the answer was “Good Luck.”

Now that the board had a name it needed to be patented but there was a problem, the patent office refused to issue a patent unless it could be proven that the board actually worked. On February 10th 1891 Peters and Bond arrived at the patent office in Washington D.C., but they were met with nothing but resistance. After being shuffled from one person to another with no luck the chief patent officer decided to see them, but there was a heavy stipulation at hand. The officer said he would only issue the patent if the board could spell his last name. Peters, Bond, and the officer had never met before but according to letters and patent file records, the board did exactly what was asked and spelled the last name. The visibly shaken officer quickly said “you’ve got your patent” as he left the room.

The popularity and sales of the Ouija Board were sky high and within only one year the Kennard Novelty Company expanded from one to seven factories producing the boards. The boards were wildly successful, but they soon became the source of turmoil for some of the people who brought them to life.
Peters came from a family that was deeply rooted in the South with many ties to the Confederate Army during the Civil War. According to family lore, Helen and her siblings went out to a battlefield after a conflict and collected buttons off the dead soldier’s uniforms. The buttons were treasured but one day they went missing. When the board was consulted about the whereabouts of the buttons it named a member of their own family. Half believed the board, the other half including Peters said the board was wrong, and an irreparable hole was ripped through the family. A distraught Peters disavowed the Ouija board, telling everyone to avoid it because it “told lies.” A year after the board’s release she married Shakespearean actor-turned-salesman Ernest Nosworthy and the pair settled in Denver, Colorado until her death in 1940.
Since its arrival the Ouija board has enjoyed the kind of long term success that any inventor dreams of but if not for Robert Murch the name of Helen Peters Nosworthy may have remained lost. Murch is the founder, Chairman of the Board, and President of the Talking Board Historical Society (founded in 2013).
Not long after the launch of the Ouija board ownership of the company switched hands and the grievances of Charles Kennard and Elijah Bond were publicly displayed within the pages of the Baltimore Sun. When Murch was digging into the archives of the newspaper he found the bitter printed letters between Kennard and Bond that spoke about Peters, her trip to the patent office with Bond, and how she asked the board its name, officially making Helen Peters Nosworthy the woman who named the fabled, iconic, and ever-controversial Ouija board.
With the discovery of who named the Ouija board the Talking Board Historical Society began working with her descendants to formally commemorate the woman who became known as “The Mother of the Ouija Board.” On September 22nd 2018 the Talking Board Historical Society, the mayor of Denver, the president of the Fairmount Heritage Foundation, descendants, and the eager public gathered at the gravesite of Helen Peters Nosworthy in Denver’s Fairmount Cemetery to dedicate a memorial in her honor.

The image of the classic Ouija board is instantly recognizable, but the visage of the woman who named the icon is far less known. One of the few images we have mirrors the same ethereal quality of any late 1800s story of talking boards and ghosts. In a sketch drawn by her husband while staying at the Hotel Gladstone in Norfolk, Virginia Helen gazes off the page with transfixing eyes and a slight grin. This is the only known image of Helen showing her in the same timeframe when asked the question that would change her life and the world of the paranormal.
“What do you want to be called?”

Hard Conversations | AJ + Bryce
WHEN: 27 March 2021
LOCATION: AJ’s dealer’s apartment, undisclosed off-campus location
NB: Not having seen each other since returning from their camping trip last weekend, AJ runs into Bryce at her dealer’s apartment late one evening. It leads to an argument between the two of them that neither are fully equipped to process or deal with.
@brycecortez
Amber-Jade wasn't stupid. She knew that something was wrong with Bryce, yet she knew better than to pry or push for details that he wasn't ready to share. AJ had organised a week's worth of meals and had left them on his doorstep, along with a card to let him know that he could always reach out if he needed her, and was just hoping that she would hear from her boyfriend soon. His sudden absence from her life, in conjunction with the usual issues that she dealt with on a daily basis, was enough to send her running to her dealer's house; intending on buying whatever the dealer was willing to give her a discount on. Her eyes widened slightly when she walked in and saw Bryce already there, clearly in the middle of buying shit himself. A master at avoiding difficult situations, AJ fully intended to just turn and leave; only for that plan to be ruined when the dealer greeted her instead. /"Damn AJ, what a pleasant surprise. You're in luck, babe. I've got a special on ecstasy, cocaine and weed -- sale ends tonight and is only for people that walk in here looking that damn fine"/
To think that Bryce had already been two weeks deep into his relapse was beyond him. And yet, it was as if he never stopped. Everything had gotten so out of control in his mind, that the only way for him to possibly sleep or even be able to think straight was through drugs. Even then, he was barely functional. It had only been a week since he last saw his girlfriend, and a week was all it took for him to begin to let himself go. He stopped going to class, stop attending work, and was barely even trying to survive at this point. He washed himself up a bit before heading over to his dealers house; a guy he barely knew, but that his classmate told him was decent enough until the guy off located further from campus got back to town. He had just accepted the bags of coke, handing the man his money when he heard someone walk in. He didn’t bother to look before the other man announced Amber-Jade’s entrance, and Bryce could immediately feel his skin begin to burn up. His eyes raised in shock at how the man addressed her, his eyes darting back and forth between his girlfriend and the drug dealer. He took a moment to process before snapping, turning around and pushing the other male roughly against the wall. “What did you just fucking say?” He snapped, his voice coming out sharply as he spat out the words. “Listen to me here, she’s not the one to be fucking with, you hear me? If I even hear that you’re talking to her, looking at her, let alone dealing to her I will come back here and beat the shit out of you and anyone else that’s here.” He said coldly as anger took over his body. He looked at the man with stern, cold eyes to make sure he understood before letting go. Turning around, he began walking towards the exit. “You shouldn’t be here.” He said to his girlfriend as he walked past her to go outside.
Amber-Jade hadn't expected to run into her boyfriend whilst at her dealer's apartment. Whilst Bryce did know about the fact that she engaged in recreational drug use, theoretically having that knowledge and then seeing the realities of it were two completely separate things. As the dealer didn't know about the connection between the two customers who were currently in his apartment, he unintentionally made it worse by hitting on her; Bryce immediately seeing red and pushing the guy against the wall. "Bryce, stop!" AJ cried out, not wanting this situation to escalate any further. She was worried that a loud altercation could result in the police being called, which would result in the two of them getting busted for possession. Neither of them needed that right now and even though this was the first time that she had seen him in a week, it was immediately evident to her that he wasn't okay. Honestly, he looked the worst that she had ever seen him. "It's not worth it, okay? It's just a comment. He's not going to do anything to me. If he even tried, I'd knock him flat on his ass", she said as she crossed the room intending to separate the two of them; only for Bryce to let go and walk away; throwing one parting shot over his shoulder. AJ quickly apologised for causing a scene and then followed him, jogging to catch up with him. "You're literally here for the exact same thing as me, Bryce. Why is it okay for you and not okay for me?" she challenged once she had reached him.
Bryce stuffed the drugs into his pocket as he stormed out of the house. The last thing he needed was to bring more attention to himself that he already has. He wasn’t proud of his relapse, and the last thing he wanted was to get busted and viewed as another troubled vet that went down the drain. He was just about to reach his truck when he heard his girlfriends voice. “Did you not hear what the hell he said to you?” He asked, his voice showing his shock as he turned around to face her. “Or do you let every guy talk to you like that?”
Amber-Jade sighed softly when she heard Bryce's retort. His first sentence seemed angry about the situation itself, yet the second sentence was very clearly directed at her. "Of course I heard what he said, Bryce. I've literally heard shit like that every single day since I was about 13 or 14. If I shoved every guy up against the wall and threatened them for saying shit like that, I certainly wouldn't be where I am today", AJ told him. "I understand that you're upset but /please/ don't talk to me like that. I'm not privileged like most of the students here, alright? Sometimes I do let comments like that slide because it's easier, okay? You have no idea what would happen to me if I called out that shit every single time, no idea". As a half-Jamaican woman from a low socioeconomic background, she had seen the worst of society; and she knew full well that certain people wouldn't respond kindly to her rejecting them. She had learned to bite her tongue in certain situations. Rather than getting into the truck with Bryce, she made her way over to the nearest bus stop and sat down on the bench; waiting for the next bus to arrive.
Bryce was still trying to process what just happened moments ago. He typically wasn’t the insecure type, but with the comment on top of everything else...well, it was safe to say he had a short fuse. “I get it Amber, but I thought we were on the same page here with the whole committed relationship thing.” He simply stated, but not long before she walked away from him. His eyes darted between his truck and the nearest bus stop, debating on what he should do in that moment. Ultimately, he walked after her. “I’m not letting you take the bus this late.” He said quietly as he approached her, his arms crossed over his chest. “I can drive you home.”
Amber-Jade stared at him in surprise when he made the comment about the two of them being in a committed relationship. "So a guy makes a comment that objectifies me and suddenly you're questioning my commitment to you?" AJ questioned, her voice breaking slightly. Her quick retreat to the bus stop was so that Bryce wouldn't see the fact that she was quickly becoming emotional; not wanting to be vulnerable around him when he was like that. Instead, he followed her and insisted on driving her home. "It's fine, Bryce. I'll text you when I get home, okay? It's obvious that you're going through something right now and I really want to be there for you but you're doing your best to push me away. I haven't seen you in a week and the very first time that I do see you, you question our entire relationship. Committing to you wasn't a decision I made lightly and you know that. I've given you pieces of me that I always swore I would never give to /anyone/ and a couple of sleazy comments from a random dealer doesn't change that".
“Would you have stopped it if I weren’t there? Because I don’t think you would appreciate seeing random girls making it obvious they want to fuck me right in front of you.” Bryce stated back. He immediately swallowed his words as Amber stormed off, and as he found himself chasing after her. He looked down at the foggy street as she spoke, not being able to make eye contact with the brunette as she spoke. “Is this just a random drug dealer for you though?” He asked quietly before looking back at her. “Look, you don’t have to talk to me for the rest of the night, but at least let you take you home...or wherever you’re going. It’s late.”
“I would have rolled my eyes at him and told that I was taken, which is what I do every single time someone hits on me", Amber-Jade informed him. "You're right, I wouldn't like it if someone hit on you while I was standing right there. That doesn't mean that I would have questioned your commitment to me, though; and I certainly wouldn't have shoved the woman against the nearest wall and threatened her. I know that someone hitting on you doesn't suggest that you want to cheat on me", she told him. "If you must know, Joey is my usual drug dealer. This guy is my back-up option for when Joey isn't available so when he didn't answer my text tonight, I came here", she explained. "Why are you here anyway? What are you using and when did you start?" In the past, the most that Bryce did when around her was smoke a couple of joints. "You don't get it, do you? I'm stupidly in love with you, Bryce. Falling in love with you was absolutely terrifying because it officially gave you all this power over me but I took the chance anyway because I can't imagine not having you in my life and now? Now you haven't spoken to me in a week and you question my commitment to you and it feels an awful lot like you're getting ready to leave me. If that's your plan, can you please just do it already and put me out of my misery?" As she spoke, her eyes welled with tears and although she frantically tried to blink them away, a few stray tears rolled down her cheeks instead.
“Alright, I’ll just stay quiet next time.” Bryce conceded, dropping the topic. He was exhausted, both physically and mentally. The man truly didn’t mean to be rude, or for his girlfriend to see this side of him, but he couldn’t find the mental capacity to put on that facade that he was okay, not anymore. “It’s nothing new for me. It doesn’t matter.” He quickly shrugged off the questions. He wasn’t proud of his relapse, as his sobriety was always the one thing that seemed to give him some purpose. He only got into smoking weed again a few weeks ago, and even that was bad for him. The man was officially risking everything with his drug use. “Do you really want to do this right here, right now? Can we not?” He asked, almost pleading. Bryce was never good at talking about hard things, especially when he wasn’t comfortable. “I’m not breaking up with you, unless if you want me to. But you’re not the only one that goes through shit that other people wouldn’t understand, Amber.”
"I won't go back to his place again, okay? If Joey isn't available, I'll just wait". Although she didn't necessarily agree with the way that he reacted to the situation, she didn't want to do anything that would make him angry or upset so she wouldn't have any further interactions with the guy. She just nodded when he dismissed her questions; whilst she wanted the answers, she knew that pushing Bryce wouldn't get her the answers that she was after and it would likely just push him further away. He clearly wasn't ready to talk about it. "Right, we don't need to do this". AJ could feel her walls rebuilding -- she had gotten raw and vulnerable with him; only for Bryce to question her commitment to him, avoid the questions she had posed, and shut down the conversation that she was trying to have. His final remark, about her not being the only one that goes through shit that other people wouldn't understand, did truly cut her and only served to further reinforce those boundaries and walls. "Go home, Bryce. I have no intention of getting in your truck with you right now and giving you more opportunities to take shots at me".
"You can do whatever you want. Doesn’t matter to me.” Bryce said with a shrug. He wished he could say he didn’t know how things between them exploded like this, but he knew exactly what it was. This was him ruining everything good in his life because he couldn’t talk about his feelings, once again. But it was way too late to back down now, as he was already in too deep. “Right. Fine, I’ll go. Feel free to go back in there and get your drugs once I’m gone, and do whatever the hell you want to do.” With that, he turned on his heels and walked back to his truck. He climbed inside and took out the bag of coke from the pocket of his sweatpants. Opening the small baggie, he put a finger in there and gathered some of contents of the drug, enough to cover the tip of his finger; sniffing it quickly and turning on the car. Not thinking twice about it, he put the vehicle into drive before speeding off.
The whole situation had escalated so quickly and AJ really had no idea how to deescalate it. The version of Bryce that was standing in front of her really didn't seem to like her all that much; it was like he wanted to pick fault with everything she did. She understood the behaviour enough to know that it was a defence mechanism and a survival strategy but that didn't mean that it hurt any less; especially when she had no idea just what was actually going on in Bryce's life. Her heart constricted painfully in her chest as he left, his comments sounding a hell of a lot like a breakup. Tears steadily burned down her cheeks as she watched him pull away at a high speed, not having been brave enough to ask whether their relationship was over; or make any sort of returning argument, knowing that it would just escalate the situation even further.

AUGUST 2020 DIMENSIONS ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULES & REVIEW
Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of September 7 KST:
A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly total).
A thread of six posts (three per participant, including the starter) based on their monthly schedule.
Threads do not have to take place directly during an important date listed on the schedule, but must be related to what the muse is mentioned to be doing in the paragraph explaining their schedule/the company’s schedule for the month and/or their thoughts on the mentioned activities or lack thereof.
These schedules may be updated throughout the month if new information needs to be added.
Reminder: July schedule posts are due by the end of August 7 KST. Please do not post schedule posts in the fmdschedule tag.
OVERALL COMPANY
Last month’s photo sessions for the base Culture Complex were a success and it seems like the project is off to a solid start, although some idols may be called back in for reshoots, especially for the 3D imaging, as necessary this month. All of the idols under BC, Dimensions, and Gold Star have been tasked with a new duty for the building this month: filming videos that will accompany some of the museum exhibits. The videos will be once again filmed in a studio, this time in front of a green screen, and the idols will be asked to talk about their feelings about important career events like their trainee days, debut, song releases, and major achievements. They will be given all of the subjects they are expected to talk about beforehand to rehearse their answers, and the director may request different wording or delivery of their answers as seen fit. (admin note: Muns have freedom about the specific topics muses are asked to talk about here within the guidelines given above, but any talk about scandalous or negative occurrences will be avoided.)
Important dates:
August 1-August 31: base Culture Complex museum intro videos filming (admin note: muses may encounter idols from other companies while there).
DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 1
Her comeback single is recorded, so it’s time for her to get the choreography down and optimize her performance for the catchy dance performance and charisma she’s so known for. She also has her second fittings ahead of teaser shoots and music video filming next month to decide on the final comeback wardrobe, and at the end of the month, she’ll be joining the company’s other two soloists in Los Angeles for a weekend for KCON.
Important dates:
August 23: Second MV and stage outfit fittings.
August 29: Performance at KCON LA (also performing: Dimensions Soloist 2, Dimensions Soloist 3, 7ROPHY, and Gold Star Soloist 2).
DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 2
He holds two solo concert dates in Seoul this month, where he’ll include “When You Call My Name” in his set list to give his fans a preview of his next release (and so that Dimensions can monitor fan reactions and decide how much promotion budget to give the song). The following weekend, he’s off to Los Angeles with the rest of Dimensions’ soloist roster for another KCON, this time on the west coast of the US.
Important dates:
August 22: Zero concert at Yonsei University Main Auditorium in Seoul.
August 23: Zero concert at Yonsei University Main Auditorium in Seoul.
August 29: Performance at KCON LA (also performing: Dimensions Soloist 1, Dimensions Soloist 3, 7ROPHY, and Gold Star Soloist 2).
DIMENSIONS SOLOIST 3
She continues to rehearse for her upcoming solo concerts this month, and will continue to be filmed throughout them for her reality show. The domestic market is by far Dimensions’ focus for her now since she’s shown such potential success in it, but they’ve decided to send their full soloist roster to KCON LA this month, which means she’s giving her first solo performance overseas this month, too.
Important dates:
August 29: Performance at KCON LA (also performing: Dimensions Soloist 1, Dimensions Soloist 2, 7ROPHY, and Gold Star Soloist 2).
GAL.ACTIC
August brings their ninth anniversary since debut on the 28th, thought Dimensions hasn’t organized any event for the full group to celebrate for fans in lieu of hoping to raise anticipating for tenth anniversary activities next year. Members are still encouraged by management to put some extra thought into reaching out to fans this month, though. In the meantime, they continue preparing their comeback by learning and rehearsing the choreography for the title track and the choreography for b-side “Bad Man Crying”, and attending fittings as usual. From August 23 to 26, they’ll be in Los Angeles for a festival performance.
Important dates:
August 10: MV and stage outfit fitting.
August 25: Performance at Korea Times Music Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA, USA (also performing: Decipher, Unity, and Fuse).
ALIEN
Alien continue music show promotions throughout the month, alongside a busy schedule of fan signs. The album does well, only improving on their past sales, and the song is received well by fans despite going mostly under the radar for the public as most of their releases have since the lawsuit. The end of promotions signal continued work on their first English album as they’ve been doing for the past year or so now, as they film the MV for ”Middle of the Night”, which they’ll have finished recording in the studio earlier in the month.
Important dates:
August 1: Fan sign in Gangnam, Seoul.
August 2: Fan sign in Yongsan, Seoul.
August 9: Fan sign in Mapo, Seoul.
August 10: Fan sign in Yeouido, Seoul
August 17: Fan sign in Gangnam, Seoul.
August 20: End of music show promotions.
August 21: “Middle of the Night” MV filming.
August 29: Performance at KCON LA (also performing: Knight, Alien, Lucid, and Gold Star Soloist 3).
MARS
Preparations for MARS’s Japanese comeback continue as they’re taught the choreography for “Can’t Say” in the early weeks of the month. The wardrobe is simple for the music video this time, so they won’t have full fittings before the filming day for the music video comes on the twentieth. Mid-month, MARS are also met with the news that they’ll be making a Korean comeback in the fourth quarter and they’ll record the album in the second half of the month with a return to form of what they’re most known for: a darker concept.
Important dates:
August 20: “Can’t Say” MV filming.
7ROPHY
7ROPHY are fully dedicated to focusing on filming Queendom this month. For the cover song task, they’ll be covering a song originally performed by the group the NPC Soloist competing on the show originally belonged to, so the stakes are high to prove what they’ve got, especially after coming off such a successful first round for them. Full details of Queendom filming for this month can be found here. From August 28 to August 30, they’ll be in Los Angeles to perform at KCON LA.
Important dates:
August 24: Queendom episode three & four filming (cover song stage).
August 27: Episode one of Queendom airs.
August 29: Performance at KCON LA (also performing: Dimensions Soloist 1, Dimensions Soloist 2, Dimensions Soloist 3, and Gold Star Soloist 2).
UNITY
It’s comeback season for Unity after a full year without a comeback and it seems the wait has paid off. The comeback earns them not only the best digital charting of their careers, but also A-tier boy group physical sales and a music show win. There’s no questioning that they’re now the best-selling boy group of the company physically, even if MARS still outdoes them in the public recognition that earns high digitals. Dimensions grows more eager than ever to see the heights Unity can reach as the month draws to a close, and the general attitude of staff around them reflects both the pressure and relief of a successful comeback.
Important dates:
August 7: “Kick It” MV reaction video filming.
August 7: Release of “Kick It” & Unity Zone album, music show promotions continue through September 7.
August 8: Fan sign in Mapo, Seoul.
August 9: Fan sign in Gangnam, Seoul.
August 15: Fan sign in Seocho, Seoul.
August 23: Fan sign in Songpa, Seoul.
August 25: Performance at Korea Times Music Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, CA, USA (also performing: Decipher, Gal.actic, and Fuse).
August 29: Fan sign in Gangnam, Seoul.
         ↳ CHAMPION
As Decipher finishes promoting their comeback and Unity makes their own comeback, a hold is put on touring, but BC and Dimensions have managed to land the members of the sub-unit a deal with Korean Air and they’ll be recording a special CF song for a music and safety video collaboration to bring more international attention to Korean Air following CHAMPION”s success overseas and to bring more domestic attention to CHAMPION, who are still not wholly accepted as a unit by fans of their main groups.
Important dates:
August 27: Korean Air x CHAMPION “Let’s Go Everywhere” MV and Safety Video filming.
LUCID
Lucid wraps up their Welcome to The Dream World tour on the second and then they fly back to Seoul to finish preparing for their comeback. They film their music video on the sixth, but in addition to comeback rehearsals, they also begin rehearsing for their LOL Showcase tour, which will tour Asia and focus on the “normal realm” side of their concept instead of the nightmare one they just toured for. This tour is far less performance-focused due to having a more fanmeeting-style set list with games, longer talk sections, and a hi-touch at the end of each show, so the rehearsal period is much shorter. Their comeback on the seventeeth proves they weren’t a one-hit wonder as Navillera soars to the top of the charts like “Rough” did and “You and I” failed to.
Important dates:
August 2: Welcome to The Dream World concert at Teatro La Huaca in Panama City, Panama.
August 6: “Navillera” MV filming.
August 17: Release of “Navillera” & LOL album, music show promotions continue through September 17.
August 23: LOL Asia Showcase tour at Yes24 Live Hall in Seoul.
August 30: Performance at KCON LA (also performing: BC Soloist 1, Knight, Alien, and Gold Star Soloist 3)

“Love U” promotions continue with fan signs, music show promotions, and an appearance on Weekly Idol to film. After her promotions end, she has two festivals squeezed into the very end of the month: one in Incheon and one in Los Angeles (KCON). She will fly straight out from Incheon following the conclusion of her performance at that festival in order to arrive in Los Angeles in time to check into her hotel and get in rehearsal before her performance at KCON on the thirtieth. At KCON, she’ll perform a special dance cover of Ariana Grande’s ‘God Is A Woman” that’s she prepared throughout the month and the dance practice, filmed before KCON, will be released the following day for fans.
Important dates:
August 2: Fan sign in Gangnam, Seoul.

DECIPHER
Music show promotions end on the thirteenth, but there’s a quick turn around on their comeback and the members are told before promotions even end that they’ve already been confirmed to make another comeback in November. They’ll hear the demos of the confirmed tracks shortly before “Love Paint” promotions end and then almost immediately after they do, they’ll be expected in the studio to record for their next mini-album. The album only contains two full-group songs, and the other four are solos for four of the group’s members as follows:
Maknae/main dancer/lead vocal: “Paradise”
Lead rapper/lead dancer/vocal: “Good Love”
Main rapper/vocal: “With”
Main vocal: “Happy Until Now”
Important dates:

BEE
In the final two days before their comeback, BEE is in Hong Kong for the last of their Live Concert: B concerts. They return to Seoul on the tenth and go to their press showcase venue immediately from the airport. It doesn’t come as a surprise to most anymore that “Darling” does well on the charts and wins over the hearts of the public and neither fans nor the public seem all that opposed to the brighter sound in comparison to BEE’s most recent releases either. Fan signs and music show promotions continue for the members through the end of the month.

KNIGHT
Their new sub-unit makes their debut this month, but work on their comeback doesn’t cease since the members of CHAMPION are in Seoul this whole month. With the album recorded, August is designated as the month to learn and practice the choreography of the title track and b-side “Jekyll” until the group has them down by memory. From August 28 to August 31, all of the members will be in Los Angeles for their performance at this year’s KCON LA.

        ↳ Knight Light
Knight Light makes their debut this month and while they may not have the digital appeal of the main group or White Knight, their album sales are the top of the top for a sub-unit, which had been more BC’s aim with the unit anyway. Three title tracks is a lot to promote nearly every day on music shows and since public appeal isn’t BC’s priority with this unit anyway, their debut promotions are limited to music shows and fan signs.
Important dates:
August 3: Release of “What A Life”, “Closer To You”, and “Just Us 2″ & What A Life mini-album, music show promotions continue through September 3.
August 4: Fan sign in Jongno, Seoul.
August 9: Fan sign in Mapo, Seoul.
August 16: Fan sign in Gangnam, Seoul.
August 23: Fan sign in Seocho, Seoul.
August 27: Fan sign in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul.
LIPSTICK
Queendom takes full priority for Lipstick’s schedules in August. The show hasn’t begun airing yet, so it’s hard to tell how it will due in ratings beyond the buzz it’s steadily creating in online communities, but BC hopes the show can bring a new surge of life into Lipstick’s fanbase before they make their next comeback. This month, the task is cover songs, and Lipstick will be covering the famous “Coming of Age Ceremony”, a song they’ve actually covered before, which could be a risk if their fans are bored of it, but has also been a crowd-pleaser when they performed it before. Full details of Queendom filming for this month can be found here.
Important dates:
August 24: Queendom episode three & four filming (cover song stage).
August 27: Episode one of Queendom airs.
         ↳ Lip Gloss
No schedules this month.

CHARM
CHARM continues to tour in the middle of the month, this time in Europe. The concert has been a success so far and this only seems to be continuing as the group wraps up their tour. The Berlin date marks the final one of the tour and BC doesn’t have plans for them to tour again until next spring, at which point they’ll embark on their first dome tour in Japan, at this point. Staff encourages CHARM to give their all for their final tour dates instead of letting the repetition get the best of them.
Important dates:
August 18: Ode To You tour concert at WiZink Center in Madrid, Spain.
August 20: Ode To You tour concert at La Seine Musicale in Paris, France.
August 23: Ode To You tour concert at The SSE Arena in London, England.
August 25: Ode To You tour concert at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany.
         ↳ CHARM U
No schedules for the month.

WISH
WISH’s tour continues with two more dates in Japan in August. Though they don’t have any more comebacks planned for this year, BC has decided to have them release a special single for their fifth anniversary that they won’t be promoting: “Downpour”, to accompany a special concert only open to official fanclub members they’ll also be holding around their anniversary. This month, they’ll record the song in the studio.
Important dates:
August 25: WISHlights Tour concert at Marine Messe Fukuoka in Fukuoka, Japan.
August 26: WISHlights Tour concert at Marine Messe Fukuoka in Fukuoka, Japan.

The UK’s Joint Committee of Human Rights has issued a report about the British government’s handling of COVID-19 as it relates to human rights. It’s... ...unimpressed. “Highlights” of the report, with explanatory notes in the few places that aren’t self-evident (the 55 recommendations run to 10 pages, and many of them include the words “government must”):
2. More care must be taken by the Government to distinguish between advice, guidance and the law, in media announcements as well as in official online sources. There must be certainty—for Government, the public as well as lawyers and the police–as to what is prohibited by the criminal law. [Can’t follow a law if people don’t know what the law is].
5. There  is  currently  no  realistic  way  for  people  to  challenge  FPNs [fixed penalty notices, on-the-spot fines that, pre-COVID, were mostly used for anti-social behaviour, and minor driving offences. They used to be limited to £150 across the board] which can now result in fines of over £10,000 in some cases. This will invariably lead to injustice as members of the public who have been unfairly targeted with an FPN have no means of redress and police will know that their actions are unlikely to be scrutinised.
8. The blanket imposition of DNACPR [Do Not Attempt Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, the aim of these being to avoid giving low-probability-of-success lifesaving treatment to people who make an informed decision not to prolong their deaths] notices without proper patient involvement is unlawful. The evidence suggests that the use of them in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic has been widespread. [Basically, medical settings have been using measures designed for people choosing euthanasia in order to illegally cause people to die, that should have been spared. The infamous “fragility” index comes into play here; one of the results is that someone with a communication difficulty could easily fail the fragility test and be issued a DNACPR despite having good underlying health (which would be a death sentence if that person went on to develop COVID complications before “fragility” tests were withdrawn in late May)].
15. Children should not under any circumstances be subject to lockdown  restrictions which amount to solitary confinement. [Children in prisons and medical facilities were often not allowed visitors, or even sustained contact with staff].
24. It  is  vital  that  DoLS  authorisations [Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, which are meant to be used to assure people in restrictive settings at least some freedoms] are in place to ensure persons deprived of their liberty on the ground of mental incapacity have safeguards in place and the means to challenge their deprivation of liberty.
27. .Where there is no reasonable prospect of removal within a reasonable timeframe, immigration detention ceases to be lawful.  [In other words, immigration is detaining people indefinitely without cause, and must stop doing so].
31. Government must justify the continued need for an executive power to deprive a wide cohort of persons of their liberty. Article 5(1)(e) ECHR allows states to detain individuals “for the prevention of the spreading of infectious diseases ... “. Although the case law on Article 5(1)(e) is very limited in this context, it is clear that the courts will consider whether less severe measures have been considered and found to be insufficient to safeguard the public interest, before using  detention  as  a  last  resort. [People of interest to immigration are being detained on alleged COVID-19-protection grounds],
35. Whether that data is gathered digitally or  manually, the legislation should limit how long manually gathered data can be held, define what type of  information  can  be  gathered, confirm when it will be deleted, and restrict it from being shared for any purpose other than combating the spread of Coronavirus. [Government sold contact tracing data to at least one American company, for purposes unknown, but had to “reassure” people that the data sale did not constitute a credit check (implying financial data was tangled up in there despite neither the app nor manual systems acquiring this data). Unsurprisingly, many people now refuse to have anything to do with NHS Test & Trace because of the illegal data sale].
39. The  Government  should  not  interfere  with  human  rights without a clear legal base and should be clear as to whether it has legally changed children’s rights or is merely changing messaging. [The way in which changes to education occurred deprived a lot of children with disabilities or in poverty from getting any education at all, and severely curtailed the education of a broad range of other students].
41. Virtual  public  galleries  must  be  implemented  to  ensure  scrutiny of criminal proceedings and respect for the principle of open justice. [The public and press have been denied access to the majority of court cases during this time].
44. Prolonged pre-trial detention must be avoided. [A lot of people are spending a long time in custody simply because there is insufficient capacity in the court system. In some cases it is taking longer than the maximum sentence they could have served had they been guilty of the offence with which they are charged, which constitutes serving punishment without determining guilt, or presumed guilt].
49. The Government should immediately organise a quick, interim review into deaths from Coronavirus to ensure that key lesson are learned  as soon  as possible, and in advance of any second peak in the Autumn/Winter. This review should be swift, independent and must be published. [The government has been trying to avoid demands for reviews since May].
53. The Government must explain why it used the 1984 Act power for legislating rather than the Coronavirus Act 2020 or the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 with all the safeguards that these measures contain. [A lot of things that should have been debated and discussed in Parliament were not, leading to a breakdown of the democratic process and likely endangering lives].
Also, one of the 55 recommendations is essentially, “Implement everything in the “Human Rights and the Government’s response to COVID-19: children whose mothers are in prison” report. That one has 4 recommendations, some of which have multiple components.
Another is essentially, “Implement everything in both previous reports about people with autism and mental health conditions being detained in psychiatric and psuedo-psychiatric settings”. These are “The detention of young people with learning disabilities and/or autism“ and “Human Rights and the Government’s response to COVID-19: The detention of young people who are autistic and/or have learning disabilities“. There are 25 recommendations between these reports, none of which are entirely duplicated.
When a government messes up so badly that it is required to make 84 recommendations to sort out its conduct, one should know it has failed.
