We arrived at 10:00 o‘clock and were picked up together with another couple from Belgium by Destination Rally and transferred to the „Table Bay Hotel“ right at the waterfront in the Cape Town harbour. Hotel and room are very nice. Odile de Rocker from Destination Rally welcomed us. Quite a difference to the other rally companies. After lunch we went into the parking lot to see whether our car has arrived yet. We met Bruno the owner of Destination Rally who told us that the ship was 2 weeks late and that they had troubles unloading the cars due to the strong winds in the harbor. The cranes shut themselves off automatically. They even developed a plan „B“ to rent cars for everyone and ship the cars to the Etosha pan if unloading would not be finished on time. Nevertheless it now looks as if they will be able to get them off today and tomorrow! Again this is the first time we don’t have to bring our cars through customs ourselves. Quite a service!

In the afternoon we took a walk on the Victoria & Albert waterfront. A huge development with museums, restaurants, shopping malls and in between the normal operations of a commercial fishing port and dry docking of shipyards. Everything is clean and very well kept which should not cover the fact that the shantytowns are just a few kilometers away! It was interesting to see on the way in that every shack has a satellite dish. We were told by our driver that this was provided for free by the government!

Tonight we shall test one of the many fish restaurants on the waterfront.
