MitD - Reviewing the Journey

Holy crow. Holy crow, guys. Moments in the Dark had come to an end last week. And it was... it was definitely a journey that I did not fully anticipate. 

It all started because I liked comparing Pidge to Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender. And it became a written thing. A Shot in the Dark was the start of this indulgence and with one of my favourite moments from canon, when Sendak takes over the castle. Of course, I made changes because I wanted Haxus to be good. Fun fact, when I first started watching VLD, it was half a year after the show concluded. I knew nothing about it and didn’t look anything up so as to avoid spoilers. I wanted Haxus, even then, to be some sort of rebel because not all Galra had to be bad, right? Well, I didn’t know of the Blade of Marmora then. And Haxus died. Well then... 

Anyway, this whole Blind Pidge AU? It was not a journey I fully planned. When I worked on Moments in the Dark as a follow up to A Shot in the Dark, I had just hoped for a dumping place for a bunch of little one shots. I did not expect it to fully be canon divergent/compliant and go through with the general plot of VLD. It just... happened. 

There were some parts that I wished I could go back and change, especially as I worked with other fics. One of which being Chip. I would have loved for Chip to be Pidge’s twin. He could have been a perfect fit. But... it didn’t happen. And by the time I thought to him possibly being there during the “Hole in the Sky” segment, I had been like ten chapters past that. So... that didn’t work out well for me.

Now, while MitD may be over, who knows, maybe new ideas will spark and there will be other side fics. That would be intriguing. 

I feel like there should’ve been more to talk about, but I’m struggling. I’m just... wow. I’ve been working on this AU in writing for so long. A Shot in the dark went up March 23, 2020 while MitD went up April 25, 2020. Over a year of writing. Wow. That’s just... so much. This fic was... it was definitely an adventure.  And thank you everyone who joined me on it, whether you were there from the start, you showed up sometime later, or you’ll find yourself checking it out.
