hello animatedjen!! I hope your day has been beautiful 🧡 I've recently moved into an apartment and have decided to get a gaming monitor for my PS5, so I can game at my desk and save some space while still enjoying photo mode sessions. if I remember correctly you play Jedi on PC, so maybe my question for you isn't relevant, but is there a monitor you use & like or would recommend for this purpose? I know these things are expensive and you seemed like a good person to ask about getting my investment right the first time around! especially since I would also use it for professional photo & video editing on occasion, and I know that's relevant to your career field as well. any advice you have on making a flexible set up would be so appreciated! thank you in advance!! I hope this question isn't too bothersome! P.S. I want you to know that you're a micro celebrity amongst my coworker friends because they see your photo mode shots rotate as my desktop wallpapers all day every day haha 😅
Tumblr media
Congrats on the apartment!! And I'm very honored to be your work desktop wallpaper 💛 Respawn should be giving you a referral bonus!
Right now I'm using a Gigabyte QHD 34" ultrawide gaming monitor I got secondhand. Good specs for the price, but it's not super color accurate when compared to my Macbook retina screen - it could be calibrated more via software or a physical tool, but for now I use the monitor for gaming, general life stuff, and pre-color editing. I have a DP cable for the PC and HDMI for the Macbook or PS5, so it's easy to switch between devices.
The ultrawide aspect ratio also means I crop my photomode shots to 16:9 to post on socials, since 21:9 photos are very skinny (see above) and people often scroll Tumblr on their small, vertically-oriented phone screens. On the plus side, it's great for video editing since I can see more of the timeline at once. And no black bars during Jedi Survivor cutscenes!
Tumblr media
You'll have to decide your budget and what specs are most important to you for photo/video work - I'd recommend a screen somewhere between 24" and 34", with QHD (2K) or UHD (4K) resolution. A higher refresh rate (at least 60hz, if not 120/144/240hz) helps for gaming and video with higher framerates. Color accuracy is tricky, but if you're not creating high-end photo prints or color grading for Netflix, something good (but not perfect) will be just fine. Some monitors will be better for gaming, and some better for photo/video editing, so decide which one to prioritize.
I've seen ASUS ProArt, Dell UltraSharp, and BenQ monitors recommended when I've shopped around before, but I skew towards non-gamer, Mac-friendly tech since more of my client work is on that system and the Jedi stuff is (sadly) not my paid job (yet). But if any other gamer/creative professionals want to drop recs in the comments, y'all probably know more than I do! 🙌
Thanks for the ask and sorry I can't be more helpful. Look forward to seeing the photomode shots from your new monitor :)

Acer Predator Z57 with Curved OLED and MiniLED Monitors!
Tumblr media
Acer Predator Z57 Technical Specs
For devoted customers, Acer has expanded its selection of gaming monitors with the addition of four premium models. Wide curved displays, superb picture quality, and smooth operation are features of these models that increase the immersiveness of gaming. Among the new variants are two MiniLED displays with 2304 zones.
The two flagship versions are the Predator X34 V3, which has a 34-inch panel a highly desired size for PC gamers and the Predator Z57, which is the largest of the lot with a 57-inch DUHD (7680×2160) at 120 Hz display. Furthermore, the dazzling OLED displays of the powerful 39-inch Predator X39 and 34-inch Predator X34 X offer fluid and captivating visual experiences with a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz and a lightning-fast 0.01 ms pixel response time.
Predator Z57: Win Hardest Battles on 57-Inch DUHD Display
The massive 57-inch Predator Z57 is a gaming giant that can win even the most fierce confrontations thanks to its 120 Hz DUHD (7680×2160) resolution. It provides outstanding brightness and picture clarity while presenting dark scenes with black backgrounds by leveraging the 2304-zone MiniLED technology. The big 32:9 aspect ratio and 1000R curvature increase the user’s field of vision when playing or working, drawing them closer to the game world.
Furthermore, the top-tier VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification makes it possible to achieve brightness levels of up to 1000 nit, produce incredibly accurate colors, and optimize light and dark contrast to illuminate minute details. Having this qualification has a significant influence on intense gaming sessions. The Predator Z57’s lifelike visuals, complemented by a wide DCI-P3 98% color gamut, will astound even the most seasoned gamers.
Multitasking is easy with its ultra-wide viewable region and productivity-boosting capabilities like picture-by-picture and picture-in-picture. The Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 include two HDMI 2.1 and one DisplayPort 1.4 port for fast, dependable connectivity. The Predator Z57 foundation is sturdy, sleek, and adjustable for height, tilt, and swivel. The base of the Predator Z57 is robust, elegantly streamlined, and customizable with height, tilt, and swivel settings to suit individual tastes. Additionally, it may be hung on a wall to free up desk space because it is VESA-compliant. To improve sound effects, this model also has two powerful 10 W speakers.
Ultrawide QHD Display Gives Predator X34 V3 an Edge
A 34-inch curved MiniLED monitor and 21:9 extremely wide QHD (3440×1440) quality let professionals compete and perform smoothly on the Predator X34 V3. DCI-P3 94% colorful gamut and VESA DisplayHDR 1000 rating make titles bright and vibrant, while 1500R curve improves engagement and peripheral vision. Fast 180 Hz pace and 1 ms (G-to-G) response time enable ghost-free gameplay.
Two HDMI 2.0 connections and DisplayPort 1.4 provide outstanding connection capabilities, allowing players to connect to a broad variety of sources. The Predator X34 V3 boasts features such as height, tilt, and swivel adjustments, making it ideal for wall mounting to optimize viewing enjoyment. Moreover, it features two 5 W speakers that deliver excellent audio for games, music, and movies. Because it has a wall mount, it is ideal for console gamers.
OLED Models of the Predator X39 and Predator X34
Two of Acer’s newest OLED models, the 39-inch Predator X39 and the 34-inch Predator X34 X, combine high contrast for incredibly vivid graphics along with incredibly fast refresh rates and reaction times for the smoothest possible performance. They also allow precise viewing at narrow angles of up to 178 degrees. Both provide UWQHD (3440×1440) quality with a frame rate of up to 240 Hz and a pixel response time of 0.01 ms, ensuring lag-free and fluid gameplay.
The 800R curvature improves the line of sight and widens the field of vision to boost interaction. A huge DCI-P3 99% color gamut supports a wide range of hues and tones, and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 ensures that no details are lost by bringing out characteristics that are commonly hidden by shadows. These new versions are certified as Eyesafe 2.0 and come with an image retention update by default to help reduce eye strain.
Crucial Components of Each New Model
All new models come equipped with AMD FreeSync Premium, a feature that smoothly depicts fast-paced action scenes without tearing or flickering the screen. They also have a USB Type-C 90 W PD connector that permits simultaneous display, data transfer, and device charging, as well as an integrated KVM switch that lets you swap sources without having to reconnect peripherals.

Mic works.
Stand hasn't broke yet but I completely understand why people say it's trash just by looking at it. I'm keeping the styrofoam case the mic came in so I have a safe spot to put it in where I don't have to worry about it rolling around or more likely, forgetting where I put it.
The next issue is my monitor. I'm using a 21:9 (2560x1080) which... is really annoying for Twitch. I love having a giant monitor for working in stuff like L2D since it gives me a lot of room with less visual clutter, but stream wise it requires more tweaking.
The most common solutions I've found are
Using OBS's scaling filter to force it into 16:9. It squashes the video in a way I dislike and leaves some black bars on the sides of the screen. The latter isn't as much as an issue since I can just put stuff there but the squashing is not something I can ignore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With aspect ratio filter (left) and default (right)
2. Shrinking the capture in OBS itself and using other stuff to fill the space.
Tumblr media
This is more reasonable for me, though I still dislike it somewhat; that dislike is likely due to not having something to put there yet. I imagine I could just put my socials, the song currently playing or some kind of custom banner, but it feels a bit weird yanno? It's like... you KNOW what stream you're on. The About page has all the info you'd care about.
It's also a strange size to put chat on. Some streamers have like, 3 lines of chat on screen, but it's still a small area and not a strip a mile wide.
I could put those chat shimejis there LOL.
I guess I'm not really sure what to do since I don't have a good comparison right now. I could get a monitor in 16:9 that's larger so I still have that space and would make moving forward easier in general, or I could figure something out for that black bar space. The former allows for more customization since I could just shrink the capture to allow for the latter to happen as well, while the latter restricts me more.
semi related rambling below cut
I would like to have lots of chat interaction type stuff and make heavy use of channel points (free currency you get for watching videos.) I'm not a personal fan of "pay money to do x" (though I understand it being required for large streamers) so I'd like to make much more use of points besides the standard "highlight my message/unlock an emote" stuff.
VTS has plugins you can use for this such as T.I.T.S (I know) that let chatters spend points to throw shit at you; VTS P.O.G that creates new parameters for VTS that link to TTS; VTS React that allows chatters to trigger stuff in VTS such as animations, expressions, toggles, etc; VTS Image Gacha that lets users pin things to your model using redeems. There's a lot.
And all this shit is really cool and I think I've already gushed about it before but I'm going to do it again. I think one of the coolest things ever about streaming is the chat interaction and I really like people who take full advantage of what that means. People like DougDoug or Shindig who use/create scripts that allow chat to actually interact with the game they're playing or the model they put on screen? Sick.
I'm no programmer nor do I have much interest in learning to code so there's things I'm limited to, but fortunately there is lots of plugins and tools other people make that I can do things with.
Like Shimeji- I mean Stream Avatars. I think this is what ScottFalco uses. It's cute. It's also an excuse to do more art since now chatters can actually use that art to make little avatars for interacting with stream. Again, very cute.
Also I can let chatters beat the shit out of each other for my amusement.
I believe channel redeems require you to be an affiliate so I do actually have to be making them money before I can do cool stuff but that's what plugins are for :) they can mimic the things I don't have access to.
Anyway all this rambling is what makes me consider sticking with 21:9 and keeping the black bar rather than just immediately going straight to 16:9 to make my life easier. Again, I COULD go 16:9 and swap between full screen and black bar depending on what I'm doing. I don't know. I've used my UW so long I'm comfortable with it so change feels weird, but my tablet is 16:9 so it's not like I don't have a comparison.
I think I'll do some looking around to see how other streamers make use of the space.

With generous screen real estate, these monitors are a great choice not only for gaming but for various different uses.
Both products feature LG’s second-generation Dual-Mode, offering customizable aspect ratios (21:9 or 16:9) and picture sizes (39-, 34-, or 27-inches) with one-touch switching between preset screen-resolution and refresh-rate combos. With eight configurations, users can personalize their gaming setups to suit their preferences or adapt to different game genres, including FPS, RPG, MOBA and racing simulators.

With an ultra-fast 0.03ms (GtG) response time, the 45GX990A ensures smooth gameplay and heightened immersion.
The World’s First 45-Inch 5K2K OLED Gaming Monitor with 800R Curvature and DisplayPort 2.1

Its 4-side Virtually Borderless design and slim bezels help boost users’ sense of immersion while adding a sleek aesthetic to any setup. Boasting 125 pixels per-inch (PPI) and an RGWB subpixel layout, the monitor improves the readability of in-game text and makes productivity tasks, such as editing documents or website content, that much easier.
Like its bendable sibling, the 45GX950A features Dual-Mode functionality with eight customizable configurations and supports DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1 and USB-C with 90W power delivery. This ensures seamless compatibility with the latest graphics cards and features such as variable refresh rate (VRR) while enabling convenient device charging. Certified by NVIDIA G-SYNC® and AMD FreeSync™ Premium Pro, the monitor has reduced screen tearing for a smoother, more responsive gaming experience.
Versatile Smart Gaming Monitor for Seamless Streaming and Immersive Gaming
The brand-new LG UltraGear 39GX90SA is designed to deliver stellar gaming and content-streaming experiences. Powered by webOS, it functions as a home entertainment hub, enabling users to access all their go-to streaming services without a PC or set-top box. Equipped with USB Type-C ports, it offers convenient connectivity, and incorporates LG’s ergonomic and space-saving L-shaped stand for a clutter-free desk setup.

4080 Super + 7800X3D. Which of these monitors would you recommend for gaming? Mostly play strategy and RPG type games. Competitive shooters every now again with the boys. Currently have a decade old 1440p/144hz monitor that I'm ready to upgrade. Torn between going 240hz UWQHD or 4K 240hz curved. I'll link what I'm looking at below. Appreciate any thoughts!MSI MPG 341CQPX UWQHD - $700 seems to be the most competitive in its class.Alienware AW3225QF - $850 after rebate I currently have for Dell purchases. A new blog post from BioWare in which they talk about the PC experience for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The blog covers display features, graphics settings and controls. "We're PC players ourselves and have a dedicated team focused on PC."
"Journal #4 PC Features for Dragon Age: The Veilguard A look into the PC Experience in Dragon Age: The Veilguard Hello everyone, Today, we want to specifically touch on the PC experience for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The Dragon Age franchise started out on PC, and we wanted to make sure PC is a great place to play our game. Many of us at BioWare are PC players ourselves, and when testing, PCs made up 40% of our platform testing effort, with over 200,000 hours of performance and compatibility testing. Getting the PC experience just right was crucial to us and we created a dedicated team to focus on PC. We can’t wait for you to experience it for yourselves! Let’s talk about inputs first. We wanted to ensure the controls and UI are a good experience for both KBM and controllers; so we did close to 10,000 hours of user research testing to make sure of it. Dragon Age: The Veilguard will feature native support for PS5 DualSense controllers with haptics support in addition to the standard of Xbox controllers & keyboard + mouse. Additionally, you can seamlessly transition between controllers or keyboard + mouse while playing or in menus. There are many different ways to play our game; so, in order to allow you to find the most comfortable set-up, we’ve added the ability to customize class-specific keybinds that you can easily switch between. This means that your Rogue Rook can use a different set of keybinds than your Warrior Rook, if you’d like! Along with the standard resolution options, we also have full support for 21:9 Ultrawide monitors. Don’t worry; we didn’t forget the cinematics, either - just disable the option titled “Cinematic Aspect Ratio.” This will remove the enforced black bars; so you can watch the cinematics in full ultra widescreen glory. No matter what size monitor you’re rocking, you can adjust your FOV with an FOV slider in the Settings. There will be an option for uncapped framerate, as well. We’re also launching with full HDR support. Most changes to Graphics and Display Settings are reflected in real time, and you can see the impacts of those changes through the cutout in the UI. This will help you make informed decisions as you tweak your game to look exactly how you want. For a full list of Settings, check the rest of the blog below! We know a lot of you play on Steam, and we wanted to meet you where you are. We’re happy to be completely Steam Native for Dragon Age: The Veilguard! We’re already Steam Deck Verified; and with Cloud Save on Steam supported, you can seamlessly switch back and forth between your PC and your Steam Deck as much as you want, with no interruption to your progress. We also have Remote Play enabled if you’d rather play on your TV! If you’d like to utilize it, there will be a completely optional linking process to your EA Account."
"If you want to hear about a few advanced settings and options for the PC community, let’s go over that now. We support a suite of Ray Tracing features, as well as an “Ultra RT” mode for extremely high end rigs. We have several types of upscaling available: NVIDIA DLSS 3, FSR 2.2 which has been heavily modified, specifically for the game, and XeSS. We also support DLSS 3 with frame generation and NVIDIA Reflex. As we have more PC features to share, we’ll circle back on those before launch. We’re inching closer to our release date of October 31, 2024! We still have more information coming on Combat, the Companions, Exploration, and more; so keep your eyes peeled on our socials. We are eager to see your battle stations running Dragon Age: The Veilguard and the resulting screenshots. Chat soon!             — The Dragon Age Community Team"

Porsche design AOC AGON Pro PD34
Inspired by the cooling fins of the iconic Porsche 911 which, according to Ferry Porsche, was meant to be driven “from an African safari to Le Mans, then to the theater and onto the streets of New York” Porsche Design created the PD34 monitor. Its style is replicated in the monitor’s rear surface structure. The monitor’s exceptional hardware characteristics and transcendent design speak for itself.
Broad QHD (WQHD) Resolution
Wide Quad HD (WQHD) offers excellent picture clarity and sharp visuals that displays every detail with its 3440 x 1440 resolution. In addition to providing greater room for work, the widescreen 21:9 aspect ratio is ideal for viewing movies in a large format or losing yourself in the newest video game.
