Almost every automaker around the world is busy in the development of their replacement alternatives to gasoline powertrain inventory. So why not the Italians? And by the name of the Italians, we are talking about the renowned Italian luxury car manufacturer brand Maserati. Recently on the 15th of April 2024, Maserati pulled the curtains off its latest GranCabrio Folgore EV in an event hosted in Rimini, Italy. They have unveiled both the gasoline- as well as electric-powered versions of the GranTurismo coupe, along with a gasoline-powered version of the GranCabrio.
The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore EV is a soft-top convertible which is the electric version of the gas-powered GranCabrio and is closely related to the GranTurismo Folgore coupe. Both the cars share similarities in terms of their exterior design language and an 818-hp electric powertrain. There’s not much difference between the GranCabrio Folgore and a GranTurismo Folgore. Everything remains the same: the four-seater setup, the ergonomic design, and the powertrain options except for one slight difference the rooftop being a convertible and a fast Formula-E derived 800-volt electric powertrain.

Maserati's second SUV Grecale spied in disguise, expected to be launched in 2021
Maserati is now actively preparing the Grecale, the brand's second SUV, which has recently been revealed in the clearest spy shots to date, taken just outside the production plant in Italy.
The Grecale is similar in size to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Although the Grecale is heavily camouflaged in the spy shots, the car's influence can also be seen in the Maserati Timbers SUV.
Maserati's second SUV is named Grecale, which means 'strong wind of the north-east of the Mediterranean'. It is seen as a key part of Maserati's plans to revitalise the brand. Maserati unveiled its plans to revitalise the brand at the same time as the launch of the MC20 supercar last year.
The Grecale, which Maserati sees as "a central player in the brand's development", will be built on FCA's production line in Cassino, Italy, which is also responsible for Alfa Romeo's Stelvio. (£790 million)
The Grecale has a great deal in common with the Stelvio, and by 2022 Maserati will also launch an all-electric version of the Grecale. It is worth noting that the internal combustion engine used in the oil-powered Grecale is supplied by Maserati (not Alfa Romeo), so it will probably be powered by the same light-hybrid 2.0L turbo engine found in the Ghibli and the Timex, while the top-of-the-range model could be powered by a "downsized" version of the new Nettuno V6 engine used in the MC20. scaled down" version.
In an interview with Francesco Tonon, Maserati's head of global planning, he said that the Grecale would be the most practical car in its class, but that it would be no less luxurious. The car will also have the best design and features in its class. There is no doubt that the Grecale will carry on the Maserati heritage and will offer the best performance and handling in its class.
By 2025, SUVs are expected to account for 70% of Maserati's sales; the share of sedans and sports cars will drop to 15% and 5% respectively over the same period.
The news about the Grecale was first confirmed by former FCA leader Marchionne back in 2018. The car is also part of an overall revitalisation plan for FCA's lineup, which also includes three MC20 derivatives - a coupe, Spider convertible and an all-electric version - in addition to the new oil-powered and electric versions of the Granturismo and Grancabrio models.
By 2023/2024, Maserati will have a new generation of the Timex Quattroporte, with electric versions of both cars. The top model will have an 800V electric system and three electric motors.
