Being very much in an Avengers frame of mind last week, I reread this collection. Latest read of 2023 finished is Heat Wave, the final part of The Extraordinaries cycle by TJ Klune This whole series has been absolutely excellent, with not just brilliant queer representation throughout, but also some of the best representation of neurodiversity and ADHD that I have ever read. There was so much I recognised in the book, that I felt seen not just for one aspect of myself but for many, which is probably what got me so hooked and how I burned through the whole series so fast The only thing bad with the series to me is that I want more! I will almost always check out a new Shazam comic from DC, but I’m particularly drawn towards takes that don’t try to shoehorn him tonally into the mainstream DCU. This one stood out for me by focusing on a more grounded view of Billy Batson as a young teen, and a maybe more realistic(ish) view of how someone like that would adapt to having the powers of a superhero.
