After doubling EV sales in 2022 in a breakout year that included its highest revenue total of $32 billion, Volvo carried the momentum into the new year.

Through the first three months of the year, Volvo’s EV sales more than doubled again (+157%), with only two fully electric vehicles in its lineup – the XC40 and the C40 Recharge.

EV sales continued climbing, up another 88% in April and 196% in May compared to 2022. This past month, Volvo’s electric car sales more than quadrupled YOY, totaling 9,535.

Volvo’s sales of fully electric vehicles grew by 178% YOY in the second quarter, reaching 29,000 and accounting for 16% of its total share of cars sold.

Although India is still trying to grow its EV infrastructure, customers have already accepted EVs over their ICE cars. Keeping this in mind, here is a list of some of the upcoming electric cars in India 2022 that will be seen on roads very soon. 

Volvo XC40 Recharge - This is an electric SUV that will be launched in the first quarter of this year itself. It is a completely built car and one of first EV cars in India 2022 with all-electric features. It will offer a battery pack of 78 kWh, which is sufficient to power its dual electric motors and deliver an output of 660 Nm and 402bhp of torque. 

It comes with a grille finish on its body, sporting the company's logo. A few notable car features are LED headlamps, LED taillights and a dual-tone paint job. Estimates state that it will be priced between 50 to 55 lakhs in India. 

Tata Altroz EV - This new contrivance of Tata is expected to launch in India by June 2022. It comes with the same battery pack used in the Tata Nexon EV but with a different driving range (300 km) and power output. The estimated price for this EV is between 12 to 15 lakhs INR. 

This version is expected to come with a new air dam, fresh grille, and a redesigned teal blue colour with electric accents. It will offer a seating capacity of five passengers. 

Tata Tiago EV - Tata had first introduced this car at the 2018 Auto Expo event and originally offered it exclusively for the government. With its brilliant electric setup and a strong battery, this car looks the same as its regular fuel-using model except for the blue accents on its exteriors. 

Tiago EV is powered by a 30kW electric motor and holds a battery pack of 216Ah. The estimated market value of this car is between 5 to 7 lakhs INR. It is one of the most awaited small electric cars in India.

Hyundai Kona EV - The all-new Hyundai Kona electric car will be launched soon in India with a mid-life facelift in 2022. The recent updates made to Kona are on its exteriors. The grille has been completely removed, giving the car a much smoother and slimmer look. The company had re-profiled the headlamps making them sleeker and sharper. 

It also comes with new alloy wheels and with a 39.2kWh battery along with a 136hp electric motor. The rival for Kona is the MG ZS EV, which comes in a similar price range.
