as someone who has consistently half-accidentally sung that line that way for nigh on a decade now, it's absolutely surreal to hear gerard singing what you got under your skirt/will make them pay for the things that they did!

because, like...singing that line that way for me has always been about making it trans? because I associate the song very strongly with an x-men character I interpret as trans, yes, but also, like — to be trans and survive, to be trans and scrape up some kind of power or prestige or notoriety, that's a threat to the cis social order, because we by default make the categories permeable, we tear down the boundaries just by living.

and when we succeed, when we win — which, even in this political climate, I still have to believe we will, it's what I fix my heart on — just the fact of our survival, that alone will make those who tried to stop us, who hurt and destroyed so many of us, it'll make them pay for what they've done when they realize they've lost, when they're forced to treat us like human beings.

And I don't know how gerard sees it, what it means to them, if it means anything, but the thing is —

I think gerard would love that it means this to me, because they seem to love how we've taken other lines for our own, like in Mama and (I think, most likely) Destroya, and I think it makes sense to feel this way in the context of Foundations, too, and the changing lyrics in Bury Me in Black and Eagles? And the archetypes embodied by the femme costumes in the U.S. leg of the tour?

Idk, I'm rambling, but there's something here about violence and gender and survival and recreation of the self and refusing to be martyred even if it's easy to die a saint, and I think it should get talked about more.

Just a silly video I made a while ago, ending with the most iconic yet underrated Gerard quote ever. And is it too late to be sharing swarm tour content? Because that happened two years ago already... (I'm going to cry)

Anyway I just thought it was funny to watch him take himself so seriously only for his 45 year old self to completely contradict his own statement some 15 years later lol.
