Finally finished editing the second "ficlet", which became more than a ficlet before I posted it in the middle of last night. I'll be starting work on my third piece soon, but in the meantime, here's the second for those who missed it:
Borrowed Technique (Star Trek: Discovery, Katrina Cornwell/Christopher Pike, 5236 words, Explicit)
“You knew him better than anyone, Kat,” Chris takes one of her hands with his free one and looks into her eyes.
“If that is true,” she swallows, “That means no one really did. I should have known. I should have been able to tell the difference, if not from his erratic command decisions then-”
“He was unpredictable. It was part of what made him so compelling, so successful, so…”
“So Gabriel,” she finishes.
8 Days of Ficlets/Flashfiction
So in an effort to combat writer's block, seasonal affective disorder, and general resentment at months of c*****mas inundation, I am issuing myself a challenge:
Chanukah starts tomorrow night, and I am challenging myself to write one ficlet per day for the duration.
No, I have not started on anything. The whole point is for these to be the equivalent to that little harmonica on a chain, the cheapo set of jacks... not the big fancy presents given by my grandparents as a Chanukah gift (but in compensation for my peers c*****mas gifts), but the little nightly tokens my broke graduate student mom managed to scrounge up and make seem special.
Anyone is welcome to join in and take up the challenge. The parameters are as follows:
8 Ficlets* both written and posted between sundown on Sunday, November 28th and sundown Monday 6th, 2021 (or whenever Chanukah falls in any given future year).
Absolutely no c*****mas content included. I don't care how secular you think it is. Seriously. If I see someone co-opting this challenge with that I will be seriously pissed.
*Feel free to adapt to other types of content creation (fanart, gifs, manips, etc).
Any of my followers who are fellow Jews should feel free to send me requests for Chanukah ficlet gifts they would like to receive. No promises, but I will do my best.

Day three's offering, for anyone who missed it and is interested:
Not Dead Yet (World of Warcraft, Jaina Proudmoore/Thrall)
“No…” Thrall watches as the ice shatters the manacle and then looks down at her with an emotion she cannot place. “There is no one I would rather face enemies on all sides with than you.”
Some part of her thinks that she should be able to tell from this that it is not him, that it is just the denizens of this place tormenting her with things she wishes, deep down, were so. But then he reaches out and lightning flashes from his hand, dropping a foe that had crept up behind her dead in its tracks, and she can no longer resist hope.

@lodessa I’ve read your two offers. Two fics whose universes I know next to nothing about. But in both of them you were able to draw me in. In your Dr Who fic, there is something quite mesmerizing, darkly romantic, and very poetic in how you convey the antagonist’s POV and stream-of-consciousness. Just wow.
In your ST: Discovery, it’s the whole mourning context that got to me. These two beings, hurting, and finding each other in an “haunted” locale. Very authentic to me.
And both times, IMPECCABLY written. Bravo
