The automotive DC-DC converter market is anticipated to soar to new heights as a result of rising fuel prices and the growing trend toward electric automobiles. These vehicles are popular on the market since they help cut down on vehicle emissions. The demand for high-performance, low-emission vehicles is rising, and government regulations on vehicle emissions are becoming more stringent. These factors are some of the factors driving the sales of automotive DC-DC converter.
Automotive DC-DC converter manufacturers have been forced to expand their selection of products as a result of the increase in sales of commercial vehicles. For instance, Ford created a pickup truck that is all electric and is predicted to have a 300-mile operating range.
Ford had initially planned to develop a hybrid powertrain, but the company has now changed its mind and now prefers a fully electric truck. The F-150 electrified went on sale in 2022. The expansion of the automotive DC-DC converter market is attributed to the growing electrification of the automotive industry across all geographies and countries.
Sales of electric vehicles surged significantly during the pandemic, despite the fact that the automobile industry faced major difficulties during that time. Recent Developments in the Market
In May 2021, TDK Corporation (TDK) declared a partnership with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co, Limited (CATL) to broaden its product lines, which now include DC-DC converters and electrical parts for electric vehicles. CATL purchases products from TDK in the automotive electrical and power supply categories for use in automotive power units.
With the introduction of a new DC/DC converter by Vitesco Technologies in February 2021, high-voltage vehicles can now also provide energy to the heating discs of the electrically heated EMICAT catalyst.
The unique e-catalyst offers the lowest emissions during actual operation, which is increasingly important in light of upcoming requirements like Euro 7.
Now, a newly developed DC/DC converter transforms the high voltage of the drive system into low voltage and power for the heating disc.

[ad_1] WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden, a self-described “car guy,'' often promises to lead by example by moving swiftly to convert the sprawling U.S. government fleet to zero-emission electric vehicles. But efforts have lagged in helping meet his ambitious climate goals by eliminating gas-powered vehicles from the federal fleet.Biden last year directed the U.S. government to purchase only American-made, zero-emission passenger cars by 2027 and electric versions of other vehicles by 2035.“We’re going to harness the purchasing power of the federal government to buy clean, zero-emission vehicles,” the president mentioned quickly after his January 2021 inauguration. He has since used photograph ops — taking a spin in Ford Motor Co.'s electric F-150 pickup truck, or driving GM’s Cadillac Lyriq electric SUV at the Detroit auto show — to advertise their potential. Cabinet officials have hawked a first set of Ford Mustang Mach-E SUVs in use on the departments of Energy and Transportation. The White House regularly describes the 2027 timeline as on observe. But the General Services Administration, the company that purchases two-thirds of the 656,000-vehicle federal fleet, says there aren't any ensures. Then there's the U.S. Postal Service, which owns the remaining one-third of the federal fleet. After initially balking and dealing with lawsuits, the company now says that half of its initial purchase of 50,000 next-generation vehicles will probably be powered by electrical energy. The first set of postal automobiles will hit supply routes late subsequent 12 months.Climate advocates say that company can do even higher.“USPS should now go all-electric or virtually all electric with its new vehicles,'' said Luke Tonachel, senior director of clean vehicles and buildings at the Natural Resources Defense Council, citing an additional $3 billion in federal spending targeted for the postal fleet under the landmark climate law Biden signed last month.About 30% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions come from the transportation sector, making it the single largest source of planet-warming emissions in the country.Story continuesElectrification of the federal fleet is a “cornerstone” of Biden’s efforts to decarbonize the federal authorities, mentioned Andrew Mayock, chief federal sustainability officer for the White House.“The future is electric, and the federal government has built a strong foundation ... that’s going to deliver on this journey we’re on over the next decade,″ he said in an interview.Excluding the Postal Service, about 13% of new light-duty vehicles purchased across the government this year, or about 3,550, were “zero emissions,” based on administration figures supplied to The Associated Press. The authorities defines zero emissions as both electrical or plug-in hybrid, which technically has a gas-burning engine. That compares with slightly below 2% within the 2021 funds 12 months and fewer than 1% in 2020.Nationwide, about 6% of latest automotive gross sales are electrical. When it involves automobiles truly on the highway, the federal numbers are even smaller. Many of the purchases in current months will not be delivered for so long as a 12 months as a consequence of provide chain issues.Currently simply 1,799 of the 656,000-vehicle federal fleet are zero-emissions automobiles. At a price of 35,000 to 50,000 GSA automotive purchases a 12 months, it would take years, if not many years, to transform your complete fleet.“It hasn’t been exactly a fast start,” mentioned Sam Abuelsamid, principal mobility analyst for Guidehouse Insight. "It’s going to be challenging for them probably for at least the next year or two to really accelerate that pace.”Christina S. Kingsland, who directs the business management division for the federal fleet at GSA, said “the federal fleet is a working fleet.”The agency pointed to a limited EV supply from automakers with big upfront costs. In addition, it said the needs of agencies are often highly specialized,
from Interior Department pickup trucks on large rural tribal reservations to hulking Department of Homeland Security SUVs along the U.S. border.Agencies also need easy access to public EV charging stations. The White House has acknowledged agencies are “way behind” on their own charging infrastructure, with roughly 600 charging stations and 2,000 total chargers nationwide. While Biden's bipartisan infrastructure law provides $7.5 billion to states to build out an EV charging network of up to 500,000 chargers over several years along interstate highways, no money from that law was earmarked for federal agencies' specialized needs. Money for charging stations must be allocated in each department's budget.Meeting Biden's goal for the federal fleet is contingent on industry increasing production as predicted beginning in 2025 and 2026, analysts say. By that time, the effects of big federal investments to build public chargers and boost EV manufacturing in the U.S. will likely be felt alongside tougher rules for automakers to curtail tailpipe emissions.GM, for example, has set a target of 1 million EV annual production capacity worldwide by 2025, while Ford expects to make 2 million EVs globally by 2026. Stellantis also is cranking up production capacity and is getting ready to launch a whole slate of new EVs.The White House has declined to set a specific goal for EV purchases in 2023, but Mayock said he expects the number to be higher than 13%.While the Postal Service is an independent agency, it plays an essential role in fleet electrification, not only because it owns 234,000 vehicles in the federal fleet, but also because the familiar blue-and-white mail trucks are by far the most visible federal vehicle, rolling into neighborhoods across America each day.The agency plans to buy up to 165,000 of next-generation vehicles over a decade. The Postal Service remains "dedicated to decreasing our carbon footprint in lots of areas of our operations and increasing using EVs in our fleet is a precedence,'' mentioned spokesperson Kim Frum.White House officers say authorities EV purchases can solely improve exponentially after a near-zero baseline a couple of years in the past underneath President Donald Trump, who sought to loosen gas economic system necessities for gas-powered automobiles and proposed getting rid of a federal tax credit score for electrical vehicles. At a current EV demonstration at a Federal Law Enforcement Training Center outdoors Washington, officers test-drove EVs outfitted for police use, together with the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Mayock known as it “a giant change-management second″ for the federal government.___Sharp reported from Portland, Maine. Toyota’s new Tundra is versatile and dependable - The Globe and Mail

2022 Toyota Tundra.
Mark Richardson/The Globe and Mail
We’ve been waiting a long time to get behind the wheel of a third-generation Toyota Tundra – the second generation has been built here in Texas for the last 15 years, and Toyota’s had no trouble selling every truck it makes.
“It certainly wasn’t planned” to wait so long, says Scott MacKenzie, Toyota Canada’s Senior National Manager for External Affairs.
“The truck’s done really, really well, but at some point, we knew we were going to need a massive redesign. We knew there was a new platform coming, so we extended it beyond (the usual model lifetime) so we could do the full model change on the next-generation platform. It took longer than anyone, including people in Toyota, actually anticipated.”
Story continues below advertisement
The thing is, the Tundra wasn’t exciting or groundbreaking but it was reliable. It held its value better than any other pickup truck, according to JD Power and Canadian Black Book and other independent evaluators. Its sales aren’t huge – in Canada, Ford sells as many F-150s in a month as Toyota sells Tundras in a year – but the plan is to double those sales with the new generation.
That all-new model will come on sale in December with a 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 gas engine, and next spring with the same engine attached as a hybrid to an electric motor. There will be six different trim levels, three different bed lengths, and two different cabin sizes – not as much choice as the Detroit brands, but plenty of options none the less.
Prices are still not announced, though Toyota says all will be revealed before the end of this month. “It’s going to be competitively priced, but we’re looking really at the comparison basis of what is in the market,” says Lisa Materazzo, Toyota Motor North America’s Group Vice President for Marketing. In other words, its pricing will depend on the pricing of all the other makers’ trucks.
Official fuel consumption is also not yet revealed, though Toyota surely knows the numbers. In lead-footed test drives here, I saw 16.4 mpg from the gas model and 20.0 from the hybrid; that’s hardly a scientific test, but it translates to 14.3 L/100 km and 11.8 respectively. That’s regular gas, of course. Normal use should be much more frugal.

TECH SPECS:
2022 Toyota Tundra
Base price/As tested: n/a (current prices for 2021 are $47,010 – $64,250)
Engine: 3.5-litre turbocharged V6, and 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 with 1.8 kWh battery
Transmission/Drive: 10-speed automatic / 2WD and AWD
Story continues below advertisement
Fuel economy (litres/100 km): n/a
Alternatives: Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ram 1500, Nissan Titan
LOOKS:
Each of the six different trims gets its own unique grille, either slats or a honeycomb, though the differences can be subtle. The most obvious is the off-road TRD Pro, which includes a lightbar under the word Toyota, while all others use the brand’s logo. There’s a lot more chrome on the 1794 trim, which is named after the year the Texas ranch was established that is now the home to the Tundra’s assembly plant. There are also eight different wheels assigned to specific trims, all but the most basic being aluminum.
Only a truck nerd will quickly recognize the Tundra from its side profile. From all angles, everything looks strong and large, which is most of the appeal. The overall shape is surprisingly aerodynamic too, though tow hooks at the front are an optional accessory. If they were fitted as standard, they’d affect the truck’s wind drag, apparently. So try not to get stuck and need a tow from the front.
Open this photo in gallery
It’s downright annoying that Toyota has not yet revealed the official fuel consumption of the two powertrains, because that’s surely the main reason for dropping in size from the previous 5.7-litre V8.
Mark Richardson/The Globe and Mail
INTERIOR:
The cabin is not so infinitely variable as with the Detroit trucks, but different trims offer different colours and upgrades. The most basic trim is the SR and it doesn’t include the 14-inch central display screen that Toyota is pushing with this truck, but it’s an option on the other lower grades and standard on the upper grades. Digital instrumentation is also an upper-grade feature.
The seats are comfortable and spacious, and the armrests are at the right height for the driver’s elbows. Everything falls well to hand, and the controls are fairly intuitive. The Tundra keeps its signature vertical-lowering rear window, which can be practical for carrying long objects. Once you climb up into the cabin, there’s no doubt you’re in a full-size truck.
Story continues below advertisement
PERFORMANCE:
I drove a variety of trim levels, and both the regular and hybrid engines, and none of them felt underpowered or laboured. Towing capacity varies a little but is close to 12,000 lbs (5,440 kg) for all the new Tundras, which is an increase of more than 17 per cent over the outgoing model. You could really hear the turbos spooling when towing a large trailer, but there was no hesitation or strain.
It’s downright annoying that Toyota has not yet revealed the official fuel consumption of the two powertrains, because that’s surely the main reason for dropping in size from the previous 5.7-litre V8. They’re much stronger than the old engine’s 381 hp and 400 lbs.-ft. of torque: the new V6 produces 389 hp but 479 lbs.-ft., while the hybrid produces 437 hp and a hefty 583 lbs.-ft. The automatic transmission is now a 10-speed, up four more gears from before.
Here in Texas, speeds are high on the interstate and the Tundra had no trouble jostling with all the other trucks on the highway. It was a smooth ride now that the suspension at the rear uses coil springs instead of the old leaf springs with a solid axle. They’re matched to a double wishbone at the front, and adaptive variable suspension is an option, as is load-levelling rear height control.
I drove an off-road course in a 1794 TRD that proved the electronic locking rear differential works well when picking its way up loose rocks. I didn’t complete the course though, because I ripped apart one of the Falken tires, shredding it on a sharp tree stump. Oops. They’re an option here, but come standard with the TRD Pro grade, as do Fox shocks.
TECHNOLOGY:
The new Tundra comes with various electronic drive modes for Sport and Eco and Comfort and more – how many you get depends on whether you have the adaptive variable suspension. All the grades include Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.5, which provides dynamic radar cruise control, precollision warning and assistance, and lane departure alert with steering assistance.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is now standard, and the multimedia platform is taken from the new Lexus NX for its first use in a Toyota. Basically, it offers much of the seamless Navigation and voice control that you’re used to with your smartphone, but on a large screen and will keep going even when you’re out of cell range.
Story continues below advertisement
There’s a useful towing feature, too, that keeps your trailer in a straight line when you’re backing up. There was a demonstration model available that didn’t work properly for me because it was incorrectly calibrated, but it worked well enough on other trucks that were available with trailers.
CARGO:
The Tundra’s payload in the back is increased to 1,940 lbs (880 kg), a boost of more than 10 per cent from before. Everything is steel back there, though the composite bed itself is dent- and corrosion-resistant and reinforced with aluminum to bring down its weight.
THE VERDICT:
The Detroit-brand trucks offer more choice and more features and may turn out to be less expensive to buy, but how much choice do you really need? If Toyota’s new engines are as reliable as before – and everything suggests they will be – then the Tundra will surely maintain its dependability and still hold its value better than every other truck. For many owners, that’s the most important thing.

Ford F-150 Lariat Supercrew 4x4 Hybrid: Is this the best pickup ever?
Words and Photos By Michael Hozjan
No matter which pickup camp you favor, be it Chevy, Ram, GMC or one of the Japanese versions you have to admit that Ford’s F-150 has been setting the benchmark for pickups since biblical times. Sure it has had its share of hick ups, which vehicle hasn’t, but it’s been the segment leader more often than not and Ford is not about to relinquish the spot. This year’s F-150 has received some notable improvements that are sure to make it a favorite with farmers, tradesmen and enthusiasts alike.
It may be cliché, but the F-150 does come in every configuration that you could want to suit every taste, budget and need. You can choose from V6 power to V8 as well as turbocharging and hybrid assist. From two doors to four doors, rear wheel drive or 4x4 as well as three different bed lengths.
Above: Nearly seven decades separate these two blue beauties
Decisions, decisions
Prices start at $36,174 for the base XL in two-door/6 ½ foot box configuration powered by a 3.3L V6 that develops 290 horses and 265 lb.-ft. of torque feeding the rear wheels through an electronic 10-speed automatic. Sorry folks, Ford has nixed manual trannies. Add another three hundred dollars and you get the more useable 8-foot bed. There are seven more trim levels, XLT, Lariat, Tremor, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor right up to the $94, 120 Limited. You get a choice of five engine choices including a 3.0L V6 diesel.
Above: You wouldn’t guess by looking at it that there are 430 horses waiting to be unleashed.
Add to the various trim lines, engine options, cabin sizes and bed lengths and you can see what I mean by a truck for every taste, need and budget. With more variants than I care to count I decided to look at the least thirsty one, the full hybrid version Lariat powered by a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine and an electric motor. As a $4,850 option, it sounds pricey, but it also delivers a whopping 570 lb.-ft. of torque and 430 horses. My tester’s towing capacity amounted to 12,400 lbs. In contrast, the base Lariat starts at $61,845 with a 2.7L EcoBoost mill that doles out 325 ponies and 400 lb.-ft. of torque and is rated to tow 8,500 pounds.
Other options included Group 502A at $4,245.00 (rain sensing wipers, LED projector bending head lights, LED taillights, onboard 400W outlet, heated steering wheel, 10-way power driver’s seat, power passenger seat, heated second row seats, leather seating, adaptive cruise and a slew of driving aides). My tester also came with 275/60Rx20 all terrain tire package at $1000, the $1,300 Sport Appearance package added power running boards and did away with the chrome grille replaced by a more subtle black grille, a twin panel moonroof at $1,750, Bang and Olufson sound system and power tailgate ($800.00 each), FX4 off-road package gets you skid plates to protect your investment’s underpinnings at $950.00, a sprayed bedliner ($600.00), co-pilot assist with active park assist ($1,350.00). With the ever-increasing sizes and heights of pickups, the $850.00, 360-degree camera is a must, especially if your travels include parallel parking around low-slung cars.
Above: Plugging in your power tools was unheard of just a few years ago now you can use your F-150 as a mobile generator – the Hybrid package can transmit up to 7.2 kW of power.
There were no extra fees for the leather seating, the 20” six spoke aluminum wheels, the towing package and the 3.73:1 electronic locking rear axle.
As you can see the numbers add up rather quickly, nothing new in the pickup world, so how does it stack up?
Hybrid Power
Ford has been a leader in alternative power for its pickups for years having experimented with [hydrogen] fuel cells in its Ranger line decades ago, and hybrid pickups are nothing new. They’ve been around for a while, some better than others, oddly, the F-150 is the sole full hybrid pickup in the 2021 model line up. It’s also the best. Not only is power transition from full electric to gasoline completely transparent, it’ll even drive on full electric in four-wheel-drive. Ford calls it PowerBoost and it’s available on all F-150 crew cab models regardless of trim, even the base XL line.
Not to be confused with Ram’s e-Torque mild hybrid system, which can’t be driven solely on electricity. Ford’s system consists of a 1.5 kWh lithium ion battery pack that's liquid cooled and engineered to minimize weight. The electric motor makes 41 horsepower (35 kW) integrated directly to the 10-speed automatic transmission.
Best of all the truck self-charges through regenerative braking and engine power, so you don’t plug it in. A workhorse should not be required to have daily downtime. Right?
New look
For 2021 the F-150 got a mild and dare I say welcomed refresh with new skin giving it a modern look.
New interior
Whether you’re pickup’s needs are for farming, towing or simply commuting, Ford’s stylists have completely redesigned the cabin. Fit and finish is top notch, as are the materials. Borrowing from the Ram, the center console features a large flat workspace ideal for taking notes or working your laptop. My Lariat came with a 12” infotainment screen that thankfully could also be navigated with buttons and dials (screens have a hard time recognizing my finger/hand gestures).
Above: For extra storage, my truck had a pop-up bin (closed in pic) under the rear seats - a $200 option.
On the road
In all honesty I haven’t enjoyed an F-150 as much as I enjoyed this one since the “Bullnose” F-150s of the early to mid ‘80s. Its road manners are above and beyond what I’ve been used to with Ford’s previous renditions and better than most of the competition. With a smooth ride and comfortable seats, road imperfections go virtually unnoticed unless you find a real large pothole.
Above: How much is too much light? I wish manufacturers would consider oncoming traffic when designing their headlamps.
With gobs of torque (the most ever in an F-150) and a whole corral of ponies under the hood, you would think that the F-150 is a speed demon. Well you’re right, zero to a hundred kms is achieved in just over 5.5 seconds and it’ll do the quarter mile in 13.8 seconds at 164 kph. The 10-speed automatic works perfectly in conjunction with the hybrid package. Whether accelerating from a full stop to highway speeds or in stop and go traffic, shifts go unnoticed. I can’t recall a single incident where the truck felt underpowered or misstepped a gear. Steering is light yet precise, but I do wish the turning circle was smaller.
On board scale
Ever wonder just how much you’re carrying? Well Ford has taken the guess workout by offering an onboard scale that measures your payload and sends it to the Sync4 screen and you can even read the weight via an LED display in the taillamps!
The verdict
I’m not a big fan of electric vehicles, (not enough space to explain why here) but I love hybrids, especially those that regenerate themselves. If I can save my gas bill while getting more power what is not to like. While this F-150 fit the bill, I’m an old school pickup guy so for me 8-foot beds are the way to go, and they’ve been making a big comeback in my neck of the woods. Having said that, I’d love to see the hybrid package offered in a regular cab version with the long bed. I’m sure the battery could safely be stored under the bed. Ford doesn’t offer the crew cab with an 8-foot box, once the darling of municipal yards and racetracks alike. Are you listening Ford?
My combined thirst for the week averaged 10.95L/100kms, unheard of in a full size pickup, much less with these horsepower figures.
Price as tested $83,715.00 *

Will the Ford F-150 Lightning turn Middle America onto EVs?
Imagine an electrical lorry chauffeur. You’re most likely visualizing an ecologically minded infant boomer, kids matured and moved away, behind the wheel of an intense blue Nissan Leaf someplace in Connecticut. Or you’re picturing a 40-something tech brother in San Francisco who simply purchased a fancy Tesla Model 3 because, well, he likes Elon Musk and he likes cars and trucks.
Now, Ford desires you to visualize a brand-new kind of EV chauffeur: one who wallows a 400-horsepower pickup.
The American car manufacturer revealed its all-electric F-150 Lightning truck today with much excitement and a surprise see from President Joe Biden himself. “My name is Joe Biden and I’m a car guy,” the president stated at a look in Dearborn, Michigan. He likewise zoomed around a racetrack in the F-150, trailed by nervous secret service representatives.
Ford and the Biden administration — which has actually guaranteed to invest $174 billion on electrical cars — are banking that customers who have actually formerly revealed little interest in EVs are going to be swayed by seeing the cars and trucks they enjoy in brand-new, all-electric clothes. It’s the very same bet being made by General Motors, which has currently revealed its monstrous Hummer EV, along with Chevy, which is preparing to launch an all-electric variation of the Silverado.
So are the trailer-towing, pickup truck-driving homeowners of Middle America going to embrace these EVs? It appears like a long shot: Only 2 percent of all cars and trucks offered in the U.S. today are electrical, and the majority of those are offered in blue states like California, Washington, and Oregon.
But the F-150 is a little an icon. Introduced in 1975 as a square-jawed, blocky lorry that rapidly discovered its method into the Mad Max franchise, the F-150 has actually been the most popular lorry in the U.S. for 39 years. In 2018 alone, Ford rolled practically a million F-150s off the lot; according to a 2016 BlueBook analysis, it’s the most-sold cars and truck in a big swath of states from Idaho to Georgia. If any cars and truck might get unwilling Americans to get on the EV train, the believing goes, it’s this one.
The price tag may make the distinction. The base design of the F-150 Lightning can be found in at $39,974; however, presuming Ford keeps offering less expensive gas-powered and hybrid variations, numerous customers still might not wish to make the dive to all-electric. The $7,500 federal tax credit for EVs might assist, however purchasers are still susceptible to stickershock. (Attempts to restore the tax credit — and get financing from Congress for other EV tasks — have actually faced obstructions in Congress.) And much of the states where Ford trucks are most popular are likewise specifies that have extremely couple of electrical charging stations, which might appear dangerous to motorists considering the Lightning’s 230-mile variety.
It’s not every day, nevertheless, that you see a 78-year-old president climbing up out of an all-electric pickup and discussing beating China at the EV video game. After 4 years of Trumpish isolationism, Biden has actually guaranteed the U.S. will rejoin the battle versus environment modification — however in a uniquely American method, with cars and trucks, corporations, and “good-paying, union jobs.” That may be precisely the message the nation’s pickup-truck motorists require to hear to get on board with EVs. In 2022, when the F-150 Lightning goes on sale, you’ll discover if it worked.

Why 2021 Is Shaping Up To Be A Pivotal Year For Electric Vehicles
Electric cars and trucks are the future, and yearly we have actually seen automakers include more EVs to their schedule. Every person is dealing with electric lorries, from reputable existing makers to brand-new names such as Byton, Lordstown, as well as Rivian.
BMW's very first "i" automobiles, the i3 and also i8, depended upon wild, futuristic styles to make a declaration. The following model in the electrical sub-brand has even more standard styling, as it's planned to be similar to the 4-series Gran Sports Car four-door hatchback. BMW has currently announced that the i4 will have 530 hp as well as an 80 kWh battery pack.
The Canoo pickup assures 600 horse power and 200 miles of array. It's smaller than what's normally located in the mid-size pickup section, being 2 feet shorter than the Ford Ranger. Canoo states its pickup will be provided with a six-to-eight-foot pickup bed as well as that it will certainly be available for pre-order mid-2021, with production beginning in 2023.
Canoo is checking a registration service that would enable customers to use as well as pay for the EV just when it's required, like Netflix. Canoo claims this little bus will have a series of 250 miles and also 300 horse power. Information on registration cost or preliminary cost haven't been revealed yet, yet expect more information as we get closer to 2022.
The Future Of Transportation Is Autonomous & Electric
Building off its storied best-selling history and recent collaboration with Rivian, Ford is seeking to make an all-electric version of the F-150 pickup, and it'll be called Lightning. The company wishes it will certainly be robust sufficient to stay clear of estranging its central consumer base while likewise attracting new buyers thinking about possessing a pickup without the carbon footprint of a gasoline engine.
Aston Martin has relaunched the Lagonda name as an all-electric luxury brand for the upper crust. Its wagon hull trips on the same platform as the Aston Martin DBX, which makes us wonder exactly how close an electric DBX is from production. Aston employer Andy Palmer informed us that he expects electric designs to have efficiency comparable to the brand's gas matchings which he expects greater than 300 miles in between check outs to the plug.
Although Lexus is a little late to the party, the luxury brand has announced it will eventually offer an EV drivetrain called Direct 4. It showcased an SUV model with the technology in 2020, with front and also rear electric motors that create 201 horse power and 221 pound-feet of torque each. Total result is unknown. Although the model cars evaluating Direct 4 are likely extremely pre-production test-mules, we anticipate the actual point to be a compact crossover that's close to the Lexus NX in size.
Lotus is planning on making another track-ready carbon-fiber car, but in a twist, which it makes 1254 lb-ft of, it'll be all-wheel drive, make an absurd 1972 horsepower, and (gasp) will be an EV. Lotus is intending to call this monster the Evija, and only 130 will be made, at a rate of $2.1 million each. There's no word on what array can be anticipated, however Lotus claims that it can bill up to 80 percent in 12 minutes many thanks to ultrafast charging rates.
The Future Of Transportation Is Autonomous & Electric
Mercedes-Benz's new EV lineup will be referred to as the EQ family. The Mercedes-Benz EQA, the company's smallest electric portable SUV, was exposed previously this year in Europe-spec kind. The Euro variation of the EQA has 187 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque and also starting at around $57,000. Mercedes-Benz recommended an EQA in the U.S. could have four-wheel drive with around 280 horsepower.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC400 4Matic, Mercedes's first electric automobile, is a compact crossover with an estimated range of 200 miles. Mercedes-Benz revealed in February 2021 that they had decided to not supply the EQC in the United States, in the meantime.
The Pininfarina Battista is an 1873-horsepower EV coupe that uses Rimac's carbon chassis and EV powertrain. It's an EV hypercar, and last year completed its initial high-speed test at the Nardo examination track in Italy with one of nine of its models. Anticipate a price over $2 million, but do not anticipate to ever before see one at your neighborhood. Shipments are claimed to start later in 2021.
Porsche recently announced that the next generation of its Macan crossover will go full electric. The Porsche Macan EV will certainly be based upon the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform that is being co-developed with Audi. It will certainly have the same 800-volt technology as the next Taycan and also will possibly share its electrical motors and also battery packs, also. Porsche intends to begin production of the Macan EV in 2022.

Electric Cars: What To Expect Between 2020 And 2030
Volvo already sells a 402-hp XC40 Recharge with 208 miles of range. The C40 shares the exact same powertrain as the XC40 Recharge, with 2 electrical motors as well as 75.0-kWh battery pack. It's likewise the same powertrain the Polestar 2 usages. Volvo estimates the C40 to have an EPA-rated driving variety of 210 miles. We anticipate pricing to begin around $55,000, with even more details about the C40 Recharge to come when production starts later in 2021.
Electric Vehicles
Pick-up trucks and also SUVs packing battery packs rather of gas engine will soon be rolling off assembly line en masse, reprising the American automotive landscape with daily they're on sale. So to keep tabs on all the cool new EVs coming down the pike, we have actually placed together this summary of the ones we recognize concerning that have us most excited.
The Chevy Bolt hatchback is receiving for a refresh in 2021, but its crossover twin, the Bolt EUV, is the far more exciting proposition. Well, calling it a crossover is maybe a stretch; it's FWD-only, and also uses little in the way of extra ground clearance or added elevation. Still, it's somewhat easier to obtain in as well as out of than the Screw, looks a lot better, goes 250 miles on a charge, supplies semi-autonomous Super Cruise ship as well as starts at $35K with location.
Electric Vehicles And The Future Of Transportation
Lordstown Stamina (2021). The Stamina is implied as a work truck for commercial customers, however that does not indicate we can not obtain thrilled regarding it. Besides, it has four hub-mounted electrical motors making greater than 600 combined horses, can reportedly take a trip 250 miles on a charge, and will begin at $45,000 after the tax obligation credit.
Nissan's Ariya (note the punctuation, it's not like the Video game of Thrones personality) can be the electric SUV the mainstream has been awaiting. FWD or AWD as well as as much as 389 hp join a lot of the EV techniques and also deals with Nissan developed for the Fallen leave, like the e-Pedal feature that makes one-pedal driving a breeze.
Electric Vehicles
Cadillac's future is electric; if it doesn't succeed, the brand might not have a future. The choice to give its EVs names finishing with "-iq" might have appeared better on paper, where it reminds people of "intelligence quotient," than it performs in practice, where it seems like "ick" however there's no saying that the crossover-cum-station wagon Lyriq could be a smash struck as soon as you get past the name.
The Future Of Transportation Is Autonomous & Electric
Chevrolet Corvette EV (2022). We've understood for a while that the eighth-generation Corvette would likely go hybrid; that frunk, as it turns out, is ideal for an electrical motor to drive the front wheels. But it likewise appears that Chevy is dealing with an all-electric Corvette. None besides Joe Biden discussed as much, declaring that it can do 200 miles per hr.
Ford F-150 Lightning (2022). Two-thirds of the Big 3 will be relocating right into the electrical truck realm in the future, as well as the Ford F-150 will likely be the first one there. The carmaker has made no secret of it, going so much as to disclose when it'll go on sale (mid-2022), what will certainly power it (two electrical motors), and also what kind of power it will certainly make (greater than any various other F-150 currently for sale).
Electric Vehicles Are The U.s. Auto Industry's Future
Maserati MC20 EV (2022). Maserati's brand-new supercar is a dynamo of internal-combustion splendor, but it'll also be available in an all-electric version come 2022.
Tesla Roadster (2022). Tesla hasn't offered a Roadster in more than a decade, ever before since the Lotus-based lorry that released the business faded away to include its very own in-house-developed designs. Currently, the Roadster is established to return as well as if also half of Elon Musk's usually broad promises become a reality, it'll be an auto to wow the globe.

The Future Of Cars Is Electric – But How Soon Is This Future?
Volkswagen ID.Buzz (2022). Ask a lot of Americans to name some legendary VWs, as well as probabilities are good Bus would certainly be the 2nd word out of the typical individual's lips. The iconic VW Type 2, as it was formally known, is set to get a spiritual rebirth come 2022 as an all-electric minivan.

The Future Of Cars Is Electric – But How Soon Is This Future?
However what electrical cars and trucks are coming? Allow's take a more detailed consider what you can expect to see striking the roads in the next couple of years. The Renault Megane E-Tech Electric relocates into a bigger sector to give you a little bit more area inside compared to the Zoe, while packaging in a 160k, W electric motor and 60kWh battery pack.
Electric Cars: What To Expect Between 2020 And 2030
Ford is revealing the electric variation of the F-150 on 19 Might, offering it the name Lightning. Ford had formerly claimed it would certainly be the most effective F-150 it's ever before generated, with the capability to utilize the battery as a mobile power supply. Expected to sit on VW's PPE platform, it has actually long been known that Porsche was going to make the Macan an EV - as well as a prototype has actually been out in testing.
Bentley has verified that an electrical SUV in the works as well as is most likely to be a beneficary of the Audi Artemis system that's in advancement. Little else is known, but it will be one more high luxury model for the most discerning customers. Genesis Electric motor - the high-end arm of Hyundai - has introduced its European launch, as well as encouraging 3 electric models over the next year.
Electric Vehicles
The VW ID.5 is anticipated to supply the same spec as the VW ID.4, yet with a sportback, a going down rear roofline for those who want something a lot more coupe as well as much less SUV in design. Launched at Car Shanghai, the Mercedes EQB is a key version for China, supplying seating for 7.
The Toyota concept presents a new system - shown Subaru - with the guarantee of solar charging to cover up the battery. Nothing has really been exposed, yet Toyota is rather late to the electrical car party, having actually been a leading pressure in hybrids.
The Future Of Transportation Is Autonomous & Electric
The Kia EV6 complies with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, sharing the exact same platform, but with Kia having its own spin. There's two battery choices, 58 or 77. The majority of the talk will likely have to do with the EV6 GT, nevertheless, which sets the bigger battery with four-wheel drive, for blistering efficiency, with a 0-62mph time of 3.5 secs. It will be available in late 2021.
Electric Vehicles Are The U.s. Auto Industry's Future
Land Rover is making sweeping adjustments to its business over the following few years - as well as that's resulted in the reveal of a new future platfrom - EMA. This platform has been confirmed to underpin the Exploration Sport and the Evoque and it's developed for electric cars, tip that those will both launch as electrical cars.
Arguably, the C40 is Volvo's first bespoke electrical vehicle - omitting the adapted XC40 Recharge - which's an interesting prospect. It has a 78kWh battery, guarantees 260 miles of variety as well as it comes with limitless information. That's right, Volvo wants the Android-based system in this car to be always connected, so it's removed the stress over where that link comes from.
Battery Electric Vehicle
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the very first in a new series of electrical automobiles from the company, sliding right into the prominent crossover area. There will be selections of 58 or 72.6 kWh batteries, with back or all-wheel drive. It gets a fresh brand-new layout, with a level floor as well as sliding centre console - we believe this is mosting likely to be a large seller.
Smooth layout enhances this sporting activities coupe, while the back entrances include a sense of functionality, like the Taycan which shares the exact same platform. A 93kWh battery rests in both the routine and also the RS version of this vehicle, promising blistering efficiency. It will cost from 79,000 as well as be offered throughout 2021.

Will the Ford F-150 Lightning turn Middle America onto EVs?
Imagine an electric vehicle driver. You’re probably picturing an environmentally minded baby boomer, kids grown up and moved away, behind the wheel of a bright blue Nissan Leaf somewhere in Connecticut. Or you’re visualizing a 40-something tech bro in San Francisco who just bought a flashy Tesla Model 3 because, well, he likes Elon Musk and he likes cars.
Now, Ford wants you to picture a new type of EV driver: one who rolls around in a 400-horsepower pickup truck.
The American automaker unveiled its all-electric F-150 Lightning truck this week with much fanfare and a surprise visit from President Joe Biden himself. “My name is Joe Biden and I’m a car guy,” the president said at an appearance in Dearborn, Michigan. He also zoomed around a racetrack in the F-150, trailed by anxious secret service agents.
Ford and the Biden administration — which has promised to spend $174 billion on electric vehicles — are banking that consumers who have previously shown little interest in EVs are going to be swayed by seeing the cars they love in new, all-electric clothing. It’s the same bet being made by General Motors, which has already unveiled its monstrous Hummer EV, as well as Chevy, which is planning to release an all-electric version of the Silverado.
So are the trailer-towing, pickup truck-driving residents of Middle America going to adopt these EVs? It looks like a long shot: Only 2 percent of all cars sold in the U.S. today are electric, and most of those are sold in blue states like California, Washington, and Oregon.
But the F-150 is a bit of an icon. Introduced in 1975 as a square-jawed, boxy vehicle that quickly found its way into the Mad Max franchise, the F-150 has been the most popular vehicle in the U.S. for 39 years. In 2018 alone, Ford rolled almost a million F-150s off the lot; according to a 2016 BlueBook analysis, it’s the most-sold car in a huge swath of states from Idaho to Georgia. If any car could get reluctant Americans to hop on the EV train, the thinking goes, it’s this one.
The sticker price might make the difference. The base model of the F-150 Lightning comes in at $39,974; but, assuming Ford keeps selling cheaper gas-powered and hybrid versions, many consumers still may not want to make the jump to all-electric. The $7,500 federal tax credit for EVs could help, but buyers are still vulnerable to stickershock. (Attempts to renew the tax credit — and get funding from Congress for other EV projects — have run into roadblocks in Congress.) And many of the states where Ford trucks are most popular are also states that have very few electric charging stations, which could seem risky to drivers eyeing the Lightning’s 230-mile range.
It’s not every day, however, that you see a 78-year-old president climbing out of an all-electric pickup truck and talking about beating China at the EV game. After four years of Trumpish isolationism, Biden has promised the U.S. will rejoin the fight against climate change — but in a uniquely American way, with cars, corporations, and “good-paying, union jobs.” That might be exactly the message the country’s pickup-truck drivers need to hear to get on board with EVs. In 2022, when the F-150 Lightning goes on sale, you’ll find out if it worked.
