The 5 Best Muscle Cars Throughout History
Whether youâre a serious collector, enthusiast, or dreamer, you will love this selection of the best classic muscle cars. They may not be your top five favorites, but youâll probably agree that theyâre pretty special.Â
If youâre in the market for a classic muscle car, youâre going to need the right kind of insurance that will understand your vehicleâs unique needs and provide you with a custom policy. Weâll cover that after we highlight the five best muscle cars that classic car owners will want to know.
#1 â 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Cost: $1 million+
Pros: 427 cubic-inch engine, 500+ horsepower
Cons: Incredibly rare
There were only 69 built, making this one of the rarest, most desirable, and most expensive muscle cars of all time. Even though Camaro wouldnât officially sell a Camaro with an engine over 400 cubic inches, they filled an order for a dealer, Fred Gibbs, for this unique high-power, low-weight engine installed in 50 1969 Camaros.Â
Later, they manufactured 19 more to round the total out to 69 â69s.
#2 â 1971 Plymouth Hemi âCuda Convertible four-speed manual
Cost: $5.75 million+
Pros: Four-speed manual transmission, 425 horsepower
Cons: Cost, rarity
Only 119 Plymouth Hemi âCudas were produced in 1971. Of that number, 12 were convertibles, and only three were equipped with A833 four-speed manual transmission. When one of these three hit the auction floor in 2021, the high bid of $4.8 million wasnât enough for the owner to sell.Â
#3 â 1973 Pontiac GTO
Photo from Unsplash
 Cost: About $18,700
Pros: Affordable, secure handling, disc brakes
Cons: Gas mileage
Finally, we included a classic muscle car that the average collector may be able to afford. You might even be able to find one that needs some work for under $10,000. This popular car is as fun to drive as some far more expensive muscle cars, and you can enjoy your time on the road knowing you wonât lose a multi-million dollar investment if something goes wrong.
#4 â 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350
Cost: $400,000+
Pros: Racing engineered suspension, front disc brakes
Cons: Cost, rarity
Only 562 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350s were produced in 1965. The scarcity of this product contributes to its value. Its racing stripes complete its classic 60s look, and exhaust and lightweight upgrades contribute to its excellent performance.
#5 â 1970 LS6 Chevy Chevelle
Cost: $125,000+
Pros: 450 horsepower, 454 cubic-inch engine, popular in movies, availability
Cons: Clutch durability, cost
Chevrolet produced 4,475 1970 LS6 Chevelles, which isnât that many. When you compare that to the production numbers of others on this list, though, it seems like a lot. The Chevelleâs racing stripes are a favorite among enthusiasts as is the classic design.
Insurance for Classic Muscle Cars
When you have a special, highly sought-after, expensive muscle car, you need a special kind of insurance policy to go with it. The standard car insurance policies arenât adequate for the unique needs of classic cars.
There are a few different companies that specialize in insurance cars with high and increasing values. If your muscle car is in the lower cost range, you may be able to use a standard insurance company, but if your vehicle is pushing the $100,000 price point, youâll be better off with a specialty insurer.
Melanie Musson writes and researches for the auto insurance comparison site, AutoInsurance.org. She strives to help people understand their insurance needs so they can protect their finances and future financial stability.

Flashback To The 2000s: Chevrolet SS Sedan Vs. Ford Taurus SHO
New Post has been published on https://coolcarsnews.com/flashback-to-the-2000s-chevrolet-ss-sedan-vs-ford-taurus-sho/
Flashback To The 2000s: Chevrolet SS Sedan Vs. Ford Taurus SHO
If you're keen on good old-fashioned big United states sedans, chances are you're quite bummed that none of them are about anymore. But even simply ten years ago, two of the all-American sedans were duking it out for the name of the best domestic performance four door.
So , may we determine a defined winner between the two searching back with 2021 sensibilities? Well, if you're already securely on team Ford or team GENERAL MOTORS, your mind is probably already composed one way or another. But for those of you that are still undecided, let's have a deep dive into each of them to see what makes both SS and the Taurus this kind of special cars.
At face worth, the Ford Taurus SHO and the Chevrolet SS four door are very different vehicles. A single sported a turbo V-6, and the other had a thumping great V8. But all in all, these two cars found 2 very different ways of achieving approximately the same thing. That being a fairly cheap performance sedan for that masses.
RELATED: Here's How Much A Classic Chevelle SS Is Worth Today
If a tree falls within the woods, but no their around to hear it, will it still make a noise? That may be roughly the same question one particular must ask themselves whenever talking about the Chevrolet DURE Sedan. In some ways, it could be contended the SS was condemned to fail from the beginning. The prospect of a rebadged Holden Commodore directly out of Australia being adapted to fit the requirements of the American market had been dubious at best and shortsighted at worst because nearly nobody bought one, let alone actually heard of the thing.
It wouldn't become the first time GM had unsuccessful with such a move. The particular rebooted Pontiac GTO instantly springs to mind. But in every fairness, the SS is really a far better car than the GTO was and more streetable as well. The LS3 V8 under the hood originated from the C6 Corvette , as did key suspension system and ECU components.
All in the 415 horsepower rear-wheel-drive four-seater platform far more practical compared to any Vette. The DURE was offered in rear-wheel generate only in the US, in kampfstark contrast to the all-wheel-drive Taurus SHO. That's sure to create any drag race involving the two an absolute must-see.
The SS might not stack up very well compared to foreign-built super cars like the Lexus GS-F and the BMW M5, but that only helps it be the perfect point of evaluation for Ford's final try at a performance sedan. A vehicle that's very similar to the DURE in some aspects, but finish opposites in others
ASSOCIATED: Auction Dilemma: Chevy Impala SS Vs . Kia Taurus SHO
The particular discontinuation of the entire Kia Taurus range, including the SHO in 2019, marked the final of an era for the United states auto industry. The day the particular full-sized American sedan disappeared forever in favor of crossover Sports utility vehicles. If this was truly the final ride of this all-American automobile type, we could at least state it didn't go out with the whimper but a huge, unquestionable bang.
Even in terms of huge American sedans, the fourth era Taurus show was an uncommon specimen indeed. In place of a huge V8 engine like a lot of its rivals, a twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost motor had been found under the hood from the SHO. A performance-tuned all-wheel-drive system ensured that all that will turbocharged power made it towards the pavement. This Taurus had been good for 365 horsepower plus 350 foot-pounds of torque.
Admittedly lower than the Chevy SS, using the Fords' standard 4WD system, it's actually less than half an additional slower to 60 compared to Chevy at 4. seventy five seconds for the SS plus 5. 2 for the Taurus. Arbitrary performance data apart, these two cars are so equally matched in the real world that will choosing between them will generally come down to personal preferences. But most importantly, how nicely they perform in real-life, day-to-day conditions.
In the end, the determining factor between these two all-American titans is going to come down as to what each individual wants out of their particular machine. If all you worry about is having the fastest household four-seater car bar not one, the SS is going to be the particular ride for you.
However , in an entire world that's more concerned with functionality and fuel economy more than quarter-mile and track situations, the larger trunk and 5 extra combined miles per gallon associated with Taurus SHO the odds upon favorite for the petrolhead that will wants a performance automobile but also has children plus groceries to ferry close to daily. Truth be told, even if the period of the American sedan is definitely well and truly at an end, we are able to at least say that the final function did not end going gently into the night, but in the hail of tire smoke cigarettes and noise.

John Wickâs 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429
By Dave Ashton
Thereâ s some golden rules in life. Donâ big t mess with another personâ s trip and donâ t mess with their own dog, especially if they are owned simply by international assassin John Wick⌠âŚ. oops, sorry dude. John Wick is played by Keanu Reeves and his beloved car is said within the movie to be a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, but is it?
Like most movie vehicles, basically used for filming are usually a hybrid of the original to make what looks aesthetically the best on the screen. The cars utilized were a bunch of 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1, instead of the much more costly and rare Boss 429. Steve Wick in one scene is questioned if the car is a Boss 429, which he agrees with. Heâ ersus hardly going to say, â Nah, its a Mach 1 I acquired off Ebay⌠â
Some pointers on the car exposing its identity are the â 69/â 70 Mach 1 non-functional cover scoop rather than the bigger one for the Boss 429. No blacked away hood. Chin splitter and back spoilers on the movie car are not on the production Boss 429, even though people did add them during the time. The interior is more like a â 69 Mach 1 and the steering wheel is really a Shelby Mustang variant. Hood hooks were also added. Itâ t unclear what engine is beneath the hood and if 429â s had been used or not, but the engine audio in the film sounds big enough and we will gloss over that one.
Apparently five vehicles had been used throughout the movie shoot so that as all five had to visually match. Using 5 Boss 429s that have been potentially going to get smashed upward would be a very expensive and wasteful occasion. The takeaway here is that similar to great movie with cool horse and muscle cars, it imaginary and the cars can be aswell. We wish the Chevelle was utilized as the main car, but the Mustang is more well-known.
David Wick features some other tasty automobiles such as a black 1968 Dodge Phone chrgr and a Ford GRAND TOURING 40 Replica within the chop shop, a 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS 396 and a 2011 Dodge Charger LD. There are tons of other vehicles within the movie, but they are makes and models thou shalt not mention the name of with this website⌠âŚ
Quarrels about the Boss 429 authenticity apart, John Wick movies are higher adrenaline, fantastic viewing and thatâ s the main takeaway here together with pony/muscle cars having been chosen because the main star vehicles.
