Hyundai i20, Hit or Miss ?

Late 2020 saw the release of the most awaited Hyundai i20 into the Indian market. i20 was an all time leader in the premium hatch segment which is now well contented by the TATA Altroz which was released early this year. The previous model of the i20 lacked in many features when compared to the TATA, it seems that the 2020 i20 is Hyundai's answer to Altroz. Filled to the brim with features the car seems like a good buy, then when you look at the price sheet it, you may loose that feeling. The top variant Asta i20 diesel costs Rs 10,8400 Ex. showroom, calicut whereas , Altroz XZ, which is the top variant of the brand only costs about Rs 9,09,000. Yes the hyundai offers some more features such as a sunroof, LED headlights etc but does that justify a 2 Lakh more price tag ?

Speaking of engine options, the offer a 1.2 Liter NA engine which I would stay clear off. Then there is the 1.5 diesel and the 1 liter turbo petrol which offers a maximum power of 120PS. I am really interested in the 1.0 petrol as it offers the most power and drives really well according to many who have driven it already. The car is wider and longer than its predecessors with a tech infested interior. with a 20.6cm infotainment system and a sound system by Bose just like in the KIAs. That looks like a sensible thing as KIA is part of the Hyundai brand. Electric sunroof in the i20 is also a feature which can be claimed as the only in class.

Speaking about looks, I personally love the way the i20 looks especially the front end looks really attractive though I am skeptical about the back end. But it is a subjective matter and will differ from person to person. But I am sure about the fact that i20 will not disappoint a lot of its beholders as it is inherently sexy to look at.

So to conclude, would I prefer the Hyundai over the TATA ? I would say yes for the turbo petrol version top variant if I had that kind of budget because that is the territory of the compact SUVs like the Venue and Kia Sonet. I would rather buy the i20 than one of these as I am not a fan of compact suvs in general. But if I was in the market for a premium hatch with a diesel I would blindly go to the Tata showroom because the Altroz is really bang for your buck and feels premium overall. So is i20 hit or miss ? hit if it was priced better but as of now a small miss but a brilliant car nevertheless   !!

All Details About the 2020 Hyundai i20 Sound System

The Hyundai i20 for sale was the brand's next big launch in the South African market, after the Kona and the Venue. The company has confirmed that the launch timeline for the updated hatchback is on track. 

According to reports from Financial Express, the 2020 i20 features a premium sound system. 

The eight-speaker setup includes Super65 units that will be installed on the front doors of the updated hatchback for an enhanced audio experience. Similar audio hardware was seen fitted to luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz and Audi adding to the premium factor.

The premium sound system could very well be a best-in-class feature along with some of the others that are featured on the i20. It comes with two 10.25-inch displays for the instrument cluster, and the touch-screen infotainment system, respectively.

The touch-screen infotainment system supports Android Auto, Apple Carplay and the brand's latest iteration of Bluelink connected technology. The updated software provides a host of additional features to the driver with a new layout and colour scheme on the screen.

The recently launched Verna facelift and the new-gen Creta features 45 and 50 ‘connected' commands, respectively. In comparison, the Hyundai Venue and the Elantra will feature only 33 and 34 commands, respectively. The i20 gets the same connected car features as the Venue.

The 2020 Hyundai i20 adopts a much more modern and edgy look. Hyundai says that the car gets its inspiration from the company's 'Sensuous Sportiness' design language.

The Hyundai i20 boasts a sportier design, as for the available pictures, it has also grown slightly bigger in size. It adopts a more modern, and edgier design. The company says that it derives inspiration from Hyundai's 'Sensuous Sportiness' design language which 'is defined by the harmony between four fundamental elements in vehicle design: proportion, architecture, styling, and technology.'

At the front, it features completely new headlamps crowned with the LED DRLs. The headlamps merge into the bigger 'backed-out' radiator grille with a honeycomb pattern. The front bumper is now much sportier and lower grille has also completely changed. The fog lamps now sit in a triangulated housing. The hood of the car now has muscular bulge lines.

At the sides, it has new alloy wheels, and the greenhouse profile now looks much sportier. The roofline appears to be more or less the same, but the widow line now uses chrome highlights.

At the rear, the LED taillights have a futuristic 'Z-shaped' design and are connected via a reflector light strip. The rear bumper is also new to the Hyundai i20 range.

On the inside, the 2020 Hyundai i20 has a much roomier and classier cabin. Its dashboard now sits more upwards and features luxury cars like connected AC vents running across the width of the dashboard. Moreover, there is a completely new steering wheel which guards a 10.25-inch virtual instrument cluster. That said, it also gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The car also features LED ambient light which certainly ups the ante in terms of features.

It was in 2013, that I first came across a Hyundai car, Hyundai i20. There it stood shining with a magnificent Blue shade. I distinctly remember the first time I sat in a Hyundai car, our own Hyundai i20 Magna. As I sat into in the backseat of the our car, I realized how my back perfectly fit into the shape of the rear seat, how my legs could comfortably be accommodated in the optimum leg space, how amused I was by the automatic window controls and the speakers which were just in their right place. In the later years, I made it to the Driver’s seat eventually, to realize that I was still as comfortable as before and Hyundai never failed to provide me with the comfort. It was like; the Hyundai car with its versatility accommodated every member that travelled with it.

 The Hyundai brand has been built upon excellent reliability and astonishing value for money, It is hard to find a negative word dais about the brand or the vehicles that it produces, and in that sense the i20 really is the perfect representation of the brand. The i20 was affordable, comfortable, versatile, sophisticated and reliable, all at the same time.

 The Hyundai i20 is a Hatchback, and its production started in the year 2008. The i20 made its debut in October 2008 at the Paris Motor Show. The first generation had striking and contemporary features like Power Steering, Anti-lock Braking System, Automatic Climate Control, Air Bags, Fog Lights, Alloy Wheels, and Air Conditioner etc. It had a petrol in-line engine with 4-Speed gear box. The i20 has a total of seven four cylinder engine options. Three are petrol, while the rest are diesel engines. 

The second generation of the car was launched in India as Elite i20 in August 2014. At launch, ten variants and two engine options were offered in the market. Its popularity soared in no time and it was in 2015 that the car was awarded as Indian car of the year ICOTY. The new model came with new engines, new styling, and a better safety structure. Its variants came in 5-Speed and 6-Speed type models. In 2018, changes to the interior including the addition of a new infotainment system equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were incorporated. The 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission was replaced with a CVT for petrol engine variants. The Hyundai i20 crossover budged as i20 Active was launched in India in March 2015. It was based on the Elite i20 and features front, rear and side plastic cladding, along with front and rear aluminum skid plates. In addition to this, the i20 Active had cornering lamps, aluminum pedals and roof rails, along with a fuel lid cover.

 The third generation is set to step foot in the market in 2020. This new i20 will set the trend for a sportier and more technological vehicle. The third i20 generation comes with more infotainment features. In the safety department, Hyundai has included the front collision assist (FAC), which can also detect pedestrians and continuing with rear collision warning, blind spot monitoring, lane following assist and an intelligent parking assistant that will automatically brake the car if an obstacle or other moving object is detected. The new mild-hybrid version is provided with a small battery and a 48-volt electrical system to improve the fuel consumption. Hyundai has dropped the diesel engines and will be launching 3 gasoline engines at the launch.

The popularity of Hyundai i20 reflects through the numerous awards that have been associated with the vehicle. The i20 was named one of Euro NCAP's "top five safest cars for 2009", which was based on Euro NCAP's maximum five star awards and their overall score. In 2010, it was awarded as the “Australia’s Best Car”, In 2014 it was identified as “Small Car of the Year” by Top Gear Turkey, Turkey and Hatchback of the Year, by ZigWheels India. In 2015 it received overwhelming number of awards in Germany-the automobile hub, for its design, the “Product Design Award”, “Golden Steering Wheel” Readers choice award, “Viewers Choice Award” and “Hatchback of the Year Award” in India and many other awards in Slovakia, UK etc. In 2016 it was awarded “Company Car of the Year”-imported vehicle in Germany. Many awards followed over the years which made the Hyundai i20 one of the most successful projects of the brand.

Estes carros não serão mostrados ao mundo por culpa do coronavírus

O Salão de Genebra, na Suíça, deveria abrir as portas à imprensa na última segunda-feira (2).

Só que o país proibiu grandes eventos após casos de Coronavírus Covid-19. E, com isso, os carros que seriam mostrados pela primeira vez seguirão apenas nas fotos.

Os organizadores da mostra tentaram contornar o cancelamento com apresentações por vídeo em tempo real. Entretanto, os quase 700.000 visitantes previstos para os dez dias de público não poderão ver nenhum dos modelos de perto.

Veja os principais lançamentos que (quase) aconteceram em Genebra, mas ficaram restritos ao mundo virtual e não poderão ser contemplados ao vivo:

Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA

Série especial será limitada a 500 unidades, mas ainda assim o Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA (sigla para Gran Turismo Alleggerita) e sua derivação ainda mais invocada, a GTAm, tinha tudo para ser um dos maiores destaques do Salão de Genebra.

Não apenas pelo visual incrementado com aerofólio traseiro (em fibra de carbono no GTAm), caixas de roda mais largas, suspensões recalibradas (e rebaixadas) e interior retrabalhado com novos materiais e bancos tipo concha.

O Giulia GTA tem um motor 2.9 V6 biturbo de 532 cv e pesa 100 kg a menos do que um Giulia Quadrifoglio comum. E, segundo a fábrica, vai de 0 a 100 km/h em apenas 3,6 segundos, números capazes de deixar qualquer esportivo alemão com inveja.

Audi A3 Sportback

O novo A3 Sportback mudou completamente – ainda que você já não reconheça tão bem as novidades visuais dos carros da marca. Com a plataforma MQB Evo, o hatch terá opções híbrida parcial e híbrida plug-in, mas nenhuma elétrica.

Também eram esperadas para Genebra as versões esportivas S3 e RS3, enquanto o A3 Sedan continua sem data oficial para lançamento. Em relação às mudanças, o A3 Sportback terá desenho inspirado, dentro e fora, no irmão menor A1.

BMW Série 4

Concept 4 serve de base para os futuros M3 e M4divulgação/BMW

A próxima geração do BMW Série 4 deverá receber novidades importantes vindas do Série 3 – modelo que serve de base ao cupê –, como lista de equipamentos mais recheada, além de itens de segurança e tecnologias melhorados em relação ao atual.

Entretanto, é possível que o modelo receba a polêmica grade vertical antecipada no Concept 4. E, para desespero de alguns puristas da marca, é provável que a versão final mantenha o desenho do protótipo. Inclusive na parte dianteira.

Ferrari Roma

Mais recente lançamento da Ferrari, a nova Roma já havia sido revelada antes, mas faria a primeira aparição pública no Salão de Genebra. O fabricante diz que o visual é inspirado em esportivos de 1950 e 1960 – e parece um Aston Martin.

O modelo terá à disposição um motor V8 3.9 biturbo com 620 cv, sempre acoplado ao câmbio automatizado de dupla embreagem com oito marchas, capaz de chegar aos 100 km/h em 3,4 segundos e à velocidade máxima de 320 km/h.

Fiat 500e

O Fiat 500 está aposentado no Brasil, mas já retornará ao nosso mercado em 2020. E virá em grande estilo: apenas na configuração elétrica, que seria levada à Suíça nesta semana. Além do novo conjunto mecânico, todo o desenho foi atualizado.

Se ainda dá para reconhecer as proporções do modelo anterior, a empresa garante que houve muitas mudanças estruturais para permitir a instalação das baterias de 40 kWh capazes de oferecer autonomia de até 240 km ao compacto.

A boa notícia é que o 500 elétrico já teve suas vendas confirmadas no Brasil ainda em 2020.

Hyundai i20 e i30

O Hyundai i20 é o equivalente europeu ao nosso HB20. E, talvez por isso, a empresa repetiu o visual polêmico no hatch que seria apresentado em Genebra. Mas eles têm vantagem na mecânica: por lá, haverá opção híbrida parcial de 48V.

Os sul-coreanos também levariam à mostra o i30 reestilizado. Se essa geração nunca chegou às lojas brasileiras, na Europa, teve a primeira atualização. E, além do visual, o hatch ganhou novos itens de tecnologia e versão híbrida parcial.

Kia Sorento

O SUV mudou completamente e herda a identidade visual já incorporado a outros modelos da marca – como o Seltos, por exemplo. Por fora, além da já tradicional grade “Nariz de Tigre”, chama atenção o desenho das molduras das janelas laterais.

Na cabine, o Sorento oferece central multimídia com tela de 12,12 polegadas, assim como quadro de instrumentos digital com 12,3 polegadas. E ainda não há detalhes da motorização, mas é esperado o mesmo conjunto do Optima Hybrid.

Mercedes-Benz Classe E

O sedã reestilizado estrearia durante o Salão de Genebra com novidades no visual que distanciarão o modelo dos irmãos Classe C e Classe C. Na dianteira, o conjunto será inspirado no novo GLA, enquanto a traseira terá lanternas divididas.

Ainda não há detalhes do pacote de equipamentos – desde antes, o modelo já tinha sistema de condução semiautônoma – ou de motorizações. Mas é provável que haja novidades nas opções já existentes e novas versões híbridas parciais.

Porsche 911 Turbo

A geração 992 do Porsche está à venda desde 2019, mas, até agora, as configurações Turbo e Turbo S não haviam sido mostradas. E a estreia das opções mais poderosas estava marcado somente para essa semana, durante o Salão de Genebra.

De acordo com as especulações da imprensa internacional, ambas as versões terão como base o motor seis cilindros opostos 3.8 biturbo do 911 Carrera S. Entretanto, a potência deverá saltar dos 450 cv para cerca de 580 cv e até 650 cv.

Toyota SUV híbrido do Yaris

Ainda não há nenhum nome para o SUV que terá como base o Toyota Yaris europeu – e que não tem nada a ver com o nosso. Mas o fabricante já confirmou que o modelo terá motorização híbrida e sistema de tração integral sob demanda.

Pelo porte, a novidade deverá ficar abaixo do C-HR. E, por enquanto, a única imagem divulgada revelou alguns detalhes do visual. Na traseira, por exemplo, há lanternas horizontais, placa na tampa e vidro traseiro com caimento suave.

VW Golf GTI/GTE/GTD e Tiguan reestilizado

As versões esportivas do Golf foram reveladas todas ao mesmo tempo – e elas terão quase o mesmo visual, com exceção de detalhes. A versão GTI terá o mesmo motor de antes – a potência saltou a 245 cv, contra os 230 cv do antecessor.

O Tiguan também seguirá o estilo do hatch médio, com faróis espichados. Só que, diferentemente do Golf, o SUV terá grade maior e semelhante à atual. Entretanto, não há informações de mudanças mecânicas ou nos equipamentos.
