Lost Peak from Escondido Campground, Ventana Wilderness

An unnamed peak with over 900 feet of topographic prominence is situated deep within the Ventana Wilderness. Referred to as Peak 3852 on Peakbagger, I had a suspicion that it hadn’t been climbed due to its remote location and being surrounded by thick brush. In the aftermath of the 2020 Dolan Fire, I saw my opportunity for a possible first ascent. This would be my number one objective in Ventana Wilderness for the season. I planned to do it as soon as the weather cooled, but to my chagrin, Bob Burd got a head start on me, and climbed it along with a handful of other peaks that I had been looking at. I should have seen it coming, but after the fact I now doubt that Bob had the first ascent. The peak was much easier than expected and the summit was not far from a decent trail. I decided to dub the peak Lost Peak due to its close proximity to Lost Valley and the Lost Valley Trail.
Joining me in the second ascent party were Daryn Dodge and Mike Toffey. We brought mountain bikes for the first 3 miles of the hike, which was along a gated dirt road. Mike and I drove down to Fort Hunter Liggett where we met Daryn parked along Del Venturi Road. Prior to indulging in the main course, we wetted our pallet with an appetizer, opting to drive up the unofficially named Wizard Peak. Along the way, Mike and I believe we saw a condor flying ahead of us. This was a nice little peak with a peculiar ball and chain located on the summit.

There were two summits; one that appeared higher and the other that was marked as higher on the map. I’ve found the high points within the Ventana Wilderness often change after bulldozer crews flatten the tops of ridges while creating fire breaks.

Lost Peak, Kandlbinder Peak, La Ventana, Double Vetana Cone, Black Cone and Black Butte were all visible to the northwest. It was a fantastic summit for almost zero physical effort.

We continued over the peak, finding some challenges when crossing the San Antonio River. The water was flowing very strongly and getting across was tricky. It took me two tries in my Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, and it took Daryn four tries in his Jeep Wrangler. We eventually connected back with Del Venturi Road which we followed all the way to the locked gate at Santa Lucia Memorial Park. We unlatched the bikes, eager to see if they would be worth bringing.

The next three miles went generally pretty smoothly, but man, my uphill pedaling muscles are weak! Thankfully the grade never got too steep.

Lost Peak came into view as we rode around a bend.

We stopped at an overlook above Arroyo Seco for a longer look. It looked pretty darn scorched.

We found the campground closed once arriving at Escondido Campground. We rode down to one of the sites and locked up our bikes on a picnic table. As we were sipping on some water, another group of bikers came rolling into camp. We were all very surprised, being used to never seeing anyone in the tucked away sections of Ventana. When we asked where they were going, they claimed they were on their way to the coast, and would eventually end up in Carmel Valley. We were all very puzzled. I joked with Mike that they were probably growers looking to tend their crops, since there is no way to get to the coast on bikes from here. As we made our way past the other group towards the start of the Lost Valley Trail, one lady kindly yelled out, “Watch out for poison oak!” Yeah, these guys had no idea what they were doing.

That was the last we would see of them. We picked up a quick pace along the charred trail down to Arroyo Seco.

I noticed some exposed granite at a dry brook. This was a classic example of the Salinian Block, where ancient Sierra Nevadan granite had shifted up the San Andreas transform margin to its current location along the coast.

We found the Arroyo Seco anything but seco, which means dry in Spanish. It was a lush little paradise. We were all able to cross without taking off our shoes.

We spent some time on the other side of the creek looking for the trail. Once we found it, we had a slightly overgrown path that took us towards the high saddle to our west. We stopped along the way to investigate a Sierran treefrog.

The trail was good enough for hiking, but we laughed at the people who thought they would be able to bike it. It was pretty warm that day, so I set a very slow pace. I had pants and a long sleeve shirt on to protect me from ticks and poison oak, but this took a toll on my body temperature.

A patch of brush at the saddle seemed unburned, so we left the trail and started climbing up the south ridge of Lost Peak to our right.

The ridge was covered with what I assume was marble.

It was too warm for me, but at least the brush was gone. We would have to deal with the stumps of charred brush hooking to our feet every now and then, but that was okay.

I was surprised to find an old roadbed towards the top of the peak. More evidence that other parties have been up here in the past. Shortly after we reached the summit as marked on the map, but the true summit appeared to be a short distance further north.

After two more minutes we reached the true summit. To the north were Pico Blanco, Kandlbinder Peak, La Ventana, Double Ventana Cone and Black Cone.

To the east was Junipero Serra Peak.

To the south was the Coast Ridge which eventually leads to Cone Peak.

We enjoyed a well deserved rest and signed the summit register.

When we were all satisfied with our rest, we started back down the south ridge towards the trail. Once on the trail, I found a benchmark called BM 2852 on the topo map, however in reality it displayed 2851. Big mistake!

The trail was enjoyable on shaded downhill sections. I joked around, wondering when those bikers were going to show up.

We stopped when I spotted an alligator lizard. Mike picked it up and we analyzed him, noting a tick on his neck.

Then lower down by the creek we found a California newt.

We continued down to the Arroyo Seco, crossed the creek, then climbed back up the trail back to our bikes.

Once back at our bikes, we enjoyed lunch at the picnic table. Some guy came by on an e-bike and chatted us up for a bit. I guess this area is more popular than I expected. The final ride back to the car was fun with a lot of downhill.

The last uphill section was a bear though.

I believe the bikes saved us considerable time, but may have even added effort. These are different muscle groups we are talking about here. Once back at the car, everyone was too tired to go for a bonus peak. The hike itself was less than 13 miles, but we were all spent. I was a little disappointed in Mike and Daryn, but at the same time a little relieved because deep down I wanted to go home. I would return later in the year to “clean up” some more unnamed prominent peaks in the area.

On the subject of towing, which is a primary purchaser consideration, the Pajero claims a maximum 3000kg tow rating. It pays to keep in mind, however, that up to 2500kg the Pajero carries a 250kg ball limit, at 3000kg the ball limit drops to 180kg – limiting flexibility somewhat.
Unlike most recreational 4x4s such as the Toyota Prado, Isuzu MU-X and even the slightly smaller Pajero Sport, the Pajero runs on fully independent suspension. That helps give it a more settled and stable feel over smaller blemishes in the road surface, more in line with 4x4s like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Land Rover Discovery.
While the Pajero legacy (in more recent times, at least) is forged on its simplicity and dependability, those same provisions cost it points on presentation.
On the inside, the fourth-gen Pajero looks every bit its age. The dash design – one massive tombstone of black plastic – makes no attempts to position itself as a premium product. It’ll survive spills, scuffs, moisture, dust and dirt no worries, but won’t be mistaken for a luxury product.
The newest part of the Pajero’s interior is its 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system loaded with features like DAB+ radio and smartphone mirroring for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but lacking in-built sat-nav or a CD player, which seem like oversights given its propensity for remote getaways.
The driver faces analogue instruments with no digital displays. The darkly shrouded two-dial gauge cluster can be hard to clock at a glance.
Ahead of the driver, there’s no trip computer info or digital speedo readout; however, an LCD display in the centre stack offers some additional info, like barometric pressure, fuel monitoring, time and temp.
Ergonomics aren’t always on point, like the (admittedly minor control) switches hidden from view on the lower dash to the left of the steering column, plus limited seat adjustment (powered upfront) and lack of steering wheel reach adjustment mean the Pajero may not be an ideal fit for all drivers.
Despite generous external proportions, the interior may be less spacious than expected. There are no issues upfront, but adult passengers in the second row will find the seat base undersized with a lack of under-thigh support, though there is an adjustable backrest.
Getting into the third row is relatively simple, but once there, the tiny dimensions rule the rearmost seats out for all but the most compact passengers. A small, low seat, lack of toe and knee room, and no ability to slide the middle row forward force an awkward side-skewed seating position.
Comfort and convenience are covered by features like single-zone climate control, rear booster controls and overhead ventilation to all three rows, power windows with auto up and down for the driver, cloth and ‘synthetic leather’ seating surfaces, Bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats, auto lights and wipers, self-dimming interior mirror, HID headlights, and remote central locking with key start.
Items that have gone missing with the removal of the higher-spec Exceed model include a sunroof, leather trim, and sports pedals – but the GLS also gains Rockford 12-speaker audio, an alarm and auto high beam, while also coming in at more than R160K under the old range-topper, which seems an agreeable compromise.
With all three rows of seats in use, there’s barely enough space left to handle a couple of grocery bags. The final row of seats can be stowed flat in the boot floor, which is a fiddly multi-stage process.
Behind the second row, Mitsubishi claims a whopping 1069L to the top of the seats, meaning plenty of useful acreages to pack your luggage into, along with plenty of bag hooks and an included cargo blind. Drop the second row and there’s 1789L, with a load length of just over 1.4m.
On the safety front, Mitsubishi provides six airbags, ABS brakes, traction and stability control, plus three top tether and two ISOFIX child seat mounts for the middle row (positioned inboard and ruling out the use of the centre seat).
Against more modern competitors, the Pajero misses out on technologies that are fast becoming commonplace on much cheaper vehicles. Features like adaptive cruise control, attention monitoring, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and the autonomous emergency braking are nowhere to be found.
Mitsubishi touts a five-star ANCAP rating, but the assessment is dated from 2011, meaning the data is now considered out of date with the lack of crash-avoidance technology making the Pajero ineligible for a five-star finish under current criteria.
For buyers seeking simplicity, the Pajero’s more basic range of features appeals to staunch traditionalists, but as a flagship vehicle, it leaves much to be desired. Particularly amongst peers like the Ford Everest and Toyota Prado, which carry more safety and luxury tech, but also wear more expensive price tags.
Similarly, the way the Pajero GLS comports itself on the road feels much more like past generations of 4x4s and not the newest or most advanced. The engine can’t be rushed, and would rather dig into its torque reserves than fly through its rev range.
There’s around 2300kg of kerb weight to shift, so the Pajero is no traffic light Grand Prix racer. It needs a moment to really get rolling, but between 1500 and 2500rpm it feels almost unstoppable.
Steering is on the heavy side at low speeds, with an 11.4m turning circle making for a somewhat cumbersome feel in tight quarters, but head onto the open road and it is much more stable and secure as a result.
Ride quality also favours the open road. It’s absorbent enough to soak up jagged rural road surfaces and doesn’t jar or shock occupants.
You can also point it away from made surfaces, with the Super Select II 4x4 system accommodating on- and off-road use with shift-on-the-go ease. To keep fuel use trim in town there's two-wheel drive, and should conditions turn damp there's on-road four-wheel drive for added traction. Head into the rough stuff and 4HLC mode locks the centre diff, while 4LLC adds low-range gearing into the mix for heavy-duty work.
In factory form, there’s 225mm of ground clearance and up to 700mm wading depth should things start to get hairy. While the lack of rigid axles won’t work for rock-hopping traditionalists, the four-wheel independent set-up holds its own on moderate off-road terrain, as does the standard rear diff lock.
As a touring vehicle, travelling noise is low, engine and road intrusion are well managed, though wind noise can factor in depending on the conditions. The block-shaped Pajero isn’t necessarily the most aerodynamically efficient.
Now that the newer Pajero Sport has established itself, it's clear that buyers after a better-equipped, plusher, or more high-tech four-wheel-drive have an option. Be that as it may, there’s still a clear audience for, and plenty to like about, the Pajero.
Its amount of time on the ground imparts the perception of having proven itself (recent recall notwithstanding), and certainly, on the used market, there’s no shortage of examples of the current fourth-gen model with well beyond 300,000km on the clock.
Owners are covered by a five-year/100,000km warranty and capped-price servicing for the first three years or 45,000km set at $479 per visit, occurring at 12-month or 15,000km intervals (whichever comes first) inclusive of all fluids and filters described in the regular service schedule.
Because of their dedicated ‘heavy-duty’ focus, cars like the LandCruiser, Patrol, Prado and Pajero are unlikely to ever be part driving, easy to park, economy champions. For their target market that’s absolutely ideal, too.
While the sophistication and complexity of rivals continue to expand, the Pajero sticks to the ‘keep it simple’ mantra favoured by regional and remote buyers and carving out its own niche in the process.
No model can run forever, though, and with production scaling down for overseas markets. Mitsubishi tells us Pajero production will soldier on for a few more years but won't yet commit to an end date.
The Pajero’s future gets even murkier now that Mitsubishi operates under the control of Nissan. While past concepts have pointed to a next-generation Pajero, the need to scale down development costs has put plans on hold while Nissan and Mitsubishi clarify the direction for Pajero and Patrol replacements.
With sharpened pricing over the years (including the ongoing current offer) and a hard-won reputation, the Pajero makes sense as a sturdy rig for touring South Africa from corner to corner reliably and comfortably.
If you’re not swayed by bells and whistles, the Pajero could be just the thing. It won’t stick around forever, though, nor will it have you bristling with joy every time you get behind the wheel, but it will handle anything you can throw at it and come back for more.

Honda Passport - Touring: It’s back and better than ever

Honda’s new two row Passport fills a void that Honda hasn’t addressed in some time. Slotted between the CRV and the three row, eight passenger Pilot, the Passport is poised to do battle in a competitive, albeit lucrative niche market. Unlike most of its competitors in the class however, Honda claims that this mid-size suv is ready to take on off-road adventures - and not of the soft core type either.

Early renditions of the Passport dating back to the turn of the century were little more than rebadged Isuzu Rodeos. For 2020 Honda has stepped up and made the Passport their own.
“The all-new Passport provides on-road comfort and nimble handling with robust off-road and all-weather capability that make it a great weekend adventure vehicle,” said Jean Marc Leclerc, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Honda Canada Inc. “We saw an opportunity to deliver something … to capture buyers looking for a more personal, powerful and capable Honda SUV.”

The Passport comes in three flavors; Sport, EX-L and Touring with all three trims motivated by the same drive train pillaged from the upper trim version of the company’s Pilot  – a 280 horsepower (262 lb.-ft.), 3.5-liter V-6 and nine-speed automatic transmission mated to a variable torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system with four-mode Intelligent Variable Traction Management. The V-6 features variable cylinder management and runs on regular grade gas. Towing capacity is 1588 kilos with an upgrade available to maximize it at 2268 kg. with the optional towing package.

Black grilles, bumper/skid garnishes and wheel arches teamed with 20-inch alloys add a certain amount of machismo to the Passport. While inside paddle shifters give it a sporty flare.
The Sport starts at $44,420. The EX-L package at $48,020 adds leather seating, power lift gate, memory features to the power driver’s seat and mirrors body colored parking sensors and an acoustic windshield. My Touring trimmed tester got an upgrade in sound with a 550-watt, 10-speaker and subwoofer system, heated/ventilated seats, nav, wireless charging, hands-free tailgate and blind spot and cross traffic alerts.

The greenhouse is typical Honda, attractive enough with well-organized controls, but what does Honda have against knobs? Depending on trim/model navigating Honda’s touchscreens, while they have gotten better, can go from mildly tolerable to hair-pulling insanity. So buyer beware and test the system thoroughly before plunking down your hard earned cash. On the upside, the front seats are wide and comfortable, with an adjustable armrest for optimal comfort. The back seat is also roomy with seating for five. There's 41 cubic feet of storage behind the rear seat, and folding the back row flat expands cargo room to 78 cubic feet.

I like the cubby holes under the cargo bay floor, but can’t imagine having a tire blowout and mounting the tiny donut sized spare to get out of the rough or going anywhere with the truck fully loaded with gear. Give me a full sized spare!
Ground clearance is an off-road ready 205 mm or 8.1 inches, but the Passport feels top-heavy and entering highway off ramps can be hairy of you’re not prepared for it. The Passport is quick, with the V6 is pulling the 2400 kg Passport with ease up to highway speeds and away from stoplights. The ride is comfortable and the steering is Honda direct, which translate to a nimble, agile feel.

Will the Passport knock Jeep’s Grand Cherokee off the mountaintop? I don’t see it but if you’re looking for a fair sized, off road capable crossover with plenty of room for passengers and cargo alike you’ll be more than satisfied with Honda’s latest Passport.

The GX 460 is the oldest product in Lexus‘ lineup, but it found its way back into the spotlight. With overlanding gaining popularity in recent years, the GX is enjoying newfound stardom thanks to its easy-to-modify architecture, legit four-wheel-drive chops and high-quality interior. There are lifted examples all over Car Twitter. Lexus’ ancient SUV is once again cool.

It seems like Lexus is finally leaning into the GX’s old-school nature, too. Last year, the company created the GXOR Concept as a nod to owners who, according to Lexus, “discovered and embraced the SUV’s perfect combination of ultimate luxury and unrivaled off-road capability.” And for 2020, there’s a new Off-Road Package which adds specific drive modes for different types of terrain, panoramic-view and under-the-car cameras, a transmission cooler, fuel tank protector and Crawl Control, which is like cruise control for super-slow off-road stuff. It’s a $1,570 option that’s only available on the top-tier Luxury trim, but if you’re planning to venture off the beaten path in your GX — and you really, really should — it’s a must-have.
Aside from that, the most obvious update for 2020 is, uh, that face. Lexus’ oversized spindle grille is almost blown out of proportion on the GX. It’s pretty bad, you guys. Thankfully, the rest of the SUV is pretty handsome, with its upright design and high-mounted taillights. My tester wears the $2,020 Sport Design Package, which adds dark-finish 19-inch wheels and some other gray body work, as well as second-row captain’s chairs, which don’t exactly convey “sporty,” but whatever, they’re nice.

Actually, the whole dang interior is nice, with soft leather surfaces and excellent fit and finish — the kind of stuff you expect in a Lexus. The red-and-black color scheme is a bit much for my tastes, and it doesn’t exactly scream “please throw all of your muddy camping gear in here,” but it adds some visual flair to the otherwise straightforward cabin design. It brings the GX’s cabin closer to modern times, too, especially with a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel, aluminum trim and a new backlit gauge cluster.
Headroom is ample for front and rear passengers alike, and there’s even a third row of seats, though they’re best left unused. The GX offers a maximum of 64.7 cubic feet of space, though it’s worth noting you access the way-back through a side-hinged tailgate, so take special note before backing into a garage or squeezing into a tight parallel parking space. Old SUVs, am I right?
Speaking of old, get a load of the GX’s multimedia tech. This outdated touchscreen infotainment system uses low-res graphics, it’s pretty slow to respond to inputs, kind of confusing to navigate and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are nowhere to be found (Amazon Alexa integration, on the other hand, is standard). But it’s not all terrible. In fact, the just-touch-what-you-want interface is far easier to use than any of Lexus’ more recent setups — you know, the stupid mouse-like joystick or, worse, the Remote Touch trackpad.
There’s at least an impressive roster of driver-assistance tech, with Lexus’ Safety System Plus suite fitted to every GX. This incorporates pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beams and adaptive cruise control, though the latter system doesn’t cover a full range of speed, so don’t rely on it for stop-and-go situations.
Perhaps the most important driver-assistance technologies are the ones that help the GX off-road, since this is where this SUV can really strut its stuff. The Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) keeps the GX level and steady both on- and off-road, stiffening or relaxing the front and rear stabilizer bars as needed. Stiffer is better for controlled body motions on smooth pavement, while softer settings give the wheels a greater range of motion on rough terrain.
The high-quality leather is as good here as it is in any other Lexus. The infotainment, however…

Interestingly, the majority of the GX’s off-road features don’t work unless you select the four-wheel-drive system’s low-range, at which point you can also lock the center differential. The GX 460 has respectable off-road geometry, with approach, breakover and departure angles of 21, 21 and 23 degrees, respectively, as well as 8.1 inches of ground clearance. The GX has air suspension tech, too, but only for the rear wheels.
The moral of the story is, the GX is far more capable than you might think. Playing around at California’s Hungry Valley off-road park, the Lexus happily bounds along dusty trails and scales steep grades with confident power. I wouldn’t press it into service as a rock crawler — that’s what a Jeep Wrangler is for, or even a Toyota 4Runner — but for the sort of get-off-the-map overlanding that’s caused this whole resurgence in GX popularity, it’s got every tool for the job.
The GX is plenty nice for commuting through civilization, too. Normal, Sport and Comfort drive modes adjust the adaptive dampers, though to be honest I can barely tell a difference. Leave it in Comfort. Go plush or go home. Besides, the relatively light steering and somewhat sluggish transmission prove the GX doesn’t really want to be hustled. Instead, it’s smooth, just powerful enough and the interior is nicely insulated to keep the outside world where it belongs.
Motive force comes from a 4.6-liter naturally aspirated V8, pushing out 301 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque, sent to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. The GX isn’t exactly quick, but a manufacturer-estimated 0-to-60-mph time of 7.8 seconds isn’t pokey, either. Unfortunately, this old powerplant is pretty thirsty, with the EPA estimating you’ll see 15 miles per gallon in the city, 20 mpg highway and 17 mpg combined.
Here’s hoping GX buyers actually take their SUVs off road.

The 2020 GX 460 starts at $54,025 including $1,025 for destination, which positions it well below its primary large-ish luxury off-road competitor, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport ($69,945). Upper-crust versions of the Jeep Grand Cherokee pose a bit of a threat, too, with the range-topping Summit coming in at $53,990. Fully loaded, the GX 460 Luxury pictured here costs $73,090.
If you don’t plan to take your luxury SUV off road, the Lexus GX probably isn’t for you. Car-based crossovers like the Audi Q7, BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class offer more power, better fuel economy, fresher style and significantly better tech, with more relaxed on-road manners.
But there’s something oddly compelling about the archaic GX. Those who appreciate its rugged charm will find a lot to like. And hey, if one doesn’t make sense right now, Lexus’ proven reliability will make this GX a sweet secondhand buy when it’s time to build an overlanding rig of your own.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S First Test: Searching for Sanity in an SUV World Gone Mad
A few weeks back I drove the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S. However, that was just a First Drive—meaning I drove AMG’s new top-shelf performance SUV around Los Angeles for a day, gave you my opinions about the vehicle and how it drives, and then speculated about its performance.
Lots of guesswork, one could say, even if some of it was fairly educated. Fast-forward half a month, and the MotorTrend test team was able to put the new GLE 63 S through its instrumented paces. The result? High and mighty.
Mercedes-AMG has entered rarified air with its new 603-horsepower GLE 63 S. By my count, and not counting its fraternal twin GLS 63, there are presently 12 production SUVs that make 600 hp or more. In alphabetical order: Bentley Bentayga (both the 600 hp W12 and 626 hp Speed), the driven-but-as-yet-untested BMW X5 M/X6 M and X5/X6 M Competition, the 707-hp Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, the 641-hp Lamborghini Urus, the 670-hp Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid (and Coupe), and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge, which squeaks in with 600 horses.
That’s it. The Audi RS Q8 and Maserati Levante Trofeo? Pikers. They each fall 9 or 10 hp shy. Acura, Cadillac, Infiniti, Lexus, Jaguar? They got nothing close. One outlier that does need to be mentioned is Tesla’s Model X, which makes 532 horsepower yet is dripping with 713 lb-ft of torque. The question, then, is this: Of the dozen super SUVs listed above, how does the 2021 GLE 63 S stack up?
The 48-Volt Powertrain
Before we get to that, just a bit about what’s under the GLE 63 S’ hood. Chiefly, a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 that’s good for 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a hybrid motor pancaked into the transmission that offers up 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, though the latter mostly provides torque-fill when the gasoline engine isn’t on full boil.
The GLE 63 S sports a nine-speed transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Big, fat Brembo brakes slow down big, fat 22-inch wheels, covered in big, fat, sticky rubber. Air springs work with a 48-volt active anti-roll bar and active, magnetic-fluid engine mounts to help sort out the AMG’s 5,467 pounds while cornering.
AMG GLE 63 S Performance
For non-drag racing aficionados, the No. 1 most important performance metric is 0–60 mph. In my First Drive story I predicted that the GLE 63 S would be quicker than the 3.7-second run Mercedes claimed it would do. I was right. We got the GLE 63 S to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. That’s (obviously) nuts for such a heavy SUV. Where does it rank amongst the other super SUVs we’ve tested? Sixth place. The Urus (3.0 seconds to 60 mph, quickest SUV we’ve ever tested), Bentayga Speed (3.1 seconds), Model X P90D and Porsche Cayenne Turbo (3.2 seconds), and Jeep Trackhawk (3.3 seconds) are all a bit quicker. Still, 3.4 seconds to 60 mph is stupid quick. The 760 horsepower (though RWD) Shelby Mustang GT500 needs 3.6 seconds.
As far as drag racing the quarter-mile run goes, I guessed 12 seconds flat. I was wrong. This AMG cracks into the 11s, at 11.9 seconds at 115.2 mph. That’s a tenth of a second behind a 797-hp Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye by our stopwatch. One tenth behind that pesky Porsche, too. In terms of Super SUVs, like with 0–60 mph, the GLE 63 S sits in sixth place behind the Urus (our quickest ever SUV at 11.3 seconds), Bentayga Speed (11.5 seconds), and in a tie for third, the Jeep Trackhawk and Tesla Model X (11.7 seconds).
Right on the AMG’s heels is the 505-horsepower 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio at 12 seconds flat, though the Italian weighs 1,100 pounds less. Of note, both the Bentley and the Lamborghini have trap speeds over 120 mph (120.7 and 120.1 mph, respectively), which leads me to believe that the big Bentayga makes way more power than advertised. Speed, indeed.
Braking from 60 mph happens in 104 feet, nearly the shortest stopping distance of any super SUV we’ve ever tested. A current-gen Porsche Cayenne Turbo (not the S) stops from 60 mph in 100 feet—2 feet shorter than any other SUV we’ve tested. The previous-generation X6 M did the deed in 105 feet, and the Tesla Model X takes 106 feet. The Urus takes 107, and the both the Stelvio QF and the Trackhawk stop from 60 mph in 108 feet.
Our figure eight test is great for separating the performance car wheat from the huge horsepower chaff. It’s relatively easy to add huge horsepower to a mall mobile. Getting said soccer schlepper to quickly corner, well, that’s a higher order of engineering magnitude. I typically say that anything in the 24-second range is pretty damn good, whereas anything under 23 seconds can be thought of as possessing world-class handling. The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S covers our 1,600-foot double circle in 25.0 seconds. That’s almost pretty good.
Compared to all the other super SUVs we’re talking about, the AMG is toward back of the pack. The previous-generation GLE 63 S Coupe (we never tested the non-Coupe for whatever reason) could do a 25.2, while the Tesla can do it in 25.1 seconds.
The Jeep Trackhawk—which curiously began life as the last-generation GLE (in the DaimlerChrysler divorce, Jeep got the SUV bones for the Grand Cherokee from Benz)—manages a 24.7-second lap. The Trackhawk is a giggle-inducing hoot, but I’d never call it a sports car. The 5,606-pound Bentayga (somehow) recorded a 24.6-second lap, whereas the Cayenne Turbo (23.9) and the Urus (23.5 seconds) both broke into the 23-second range, a seemingly impossible achievement. Not too long ago 23-second laps were the near exclusive domain of Porsche GT offerings, sticky-tire Corvettes, and Vipers with ironing boards as wings. What a world.
Conclusion
One quick note before we go on. Yes, there is a GLE 63 (non S), but like Mercedes-AMG decided with its hot E-Class sedans, the non-S is never coming to American soil. Pay it no mind.
What do we make of this AMG, then, the GLE 63 S? Well, it certainly is quick, in a classic, more-muscle-than-brains AMG sort of way. But is it quick enough? Keeping money out of the equation for a moment, you can purchase quicker, better-handling SUVs.
But if you’re worried about dollar signs, only the Jeep Trackhawk is a better value, starting at just over $90,000 and usually leaving dealer lots for right around $100K. The GLE 63 S starts life at about $115K, and as tested this Brilliant Blue Metallic puppy stickers for $133,075. That’s around $5,000 less than a Model X P100D. The Porsche starts life in the $125K neighborhood and climbs north quick. The Bentley and the Lamborghini both start at more than $200,000.
What would I choose? Of the SUVs mentioned, I’d take the Urus. Duh. If that’s too much scrilla, then I’d go Trackhawk. Though if I were actually in the market for a great, big, overpowered, overpriced SUV, I would go with the new 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63. A bit numb to the touch, a tick slower, but worlds more appealing. What a Bentley should drive like. Yeah, I’m that guy.

As I work on my dissertation updates and law school score.  I am using Khan Academy, Blueprint, and Griffon Prep.  Goal is to aim for 500 points on the LSAT.  Since my first round of schools are denying admission, I am already updating my Credential Assembly Service package and created a brand new list of schools.  I look forward to those applications.  I am expecting to take the LSAT and GRE during the end-of-summer and Fall seasons when I send my second round of applications. If no admissions after second round of applications for August 2020 class, then I am heading to South Carolina around April 2020 to do the position and people, and get it out of the way.

I did purchase a Yamaha XMAX. It rode very well.  I did have two separate accidents in the Yamaha XMAX.  I thought I was being safe with bike, but unfortunately life did not like me having it.  On December 5, 2018, while I was doing deliveries. The 2018 Yamaha XMAX broke down and could not crank.  I had to push the vehicle from North Capitol St NE and Michigan Ave NE to downtown.  I was severely anger because it was a new bike and some of my recent trips was to Fredericksburg, VA and Baltimore, MD.  I did not know one ounce of help for scooter/motorbike that could have broken down somewhere I was unfamiliar to get help.  It sent all kinds of emotions through me.  So I threw my anger in emails and phone calls to dealer and Yamaha, I authorized the work.  The Yamaha breakdown cut into my XMAS money I could have made from my part-time gig.  Yamaha was expecting payments for the periods of non-use and I told them I was not riding, and I am not paying.  Now, February 1, 2018, Yamaha dealer decides to call back and say bike is fixed.  Guess what I did out of anger?  I got a new bike, Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive, with all the bells and whistles.  I transferred the tags, paid the tax, and now I am riding.  It has been six to seven months riding my motorbike and cycling bike and parking them everywhere.  Guess what?  Now, the cops/MPD and US Capitol Police saw me parking the motorbike on the bike rack.  On Monday, January 28, 2019, I left my motorbike parked on US Capitols ground on a public sidewalk on a bike rack near one of the capitol ground parks for one day because of inclement weather.  I come back the next day, the entire motorbike was gone and someone broke through the Kryptonite lock with security level 10, and all other security features on the motorbike.  US Capitol Police saw me every day and night when I parked in the same spot and did not say anything.  After I made two calls to 911, US Capitol Police showed and told me all the rules regarding the motor scooter.  I paid $210 for towing and they issued me a ticket in the same day for $100.  The ticket infraction information was dated Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 7:50 PM, location Unit block C St NE and 300 Delaware Ave NE, Code P047, Parked on sidewalk, Signature Officer Dworak, Dept USCP, Element USB/OSB, Badge No 7001.  I am back riding again, but this time I am using all the areas of residential parking in my Zone.  I was completely corrected to use my residential parking permit in Washington, DC and take up a full parking space. My Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive is financed by GE Capital. I do apologize GE Capital for cancelling a credit card earlier in my life when I still did not understand how to use the credit card.  I am glad General Electric came back to be apart of my life. It feels good.
I am becoming better at doing repossessions. My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee from Carmax was repossessed.  My 2007 Mercedes Benz from EuroMotors was repossessed, but they are getting lawsuit/civil suits for that car experience.  My 2018 Yamaha XMAX from Coleman PowerSports was repossessed and if I incur a balance from that motorbike, then civil suits are prepared and ready.  Just as expected Yamaha made a balance from a defective product.
POSITION #47  - Amazon This was a good position.  I am surprised that Amazon was so inflexible as a 24/7 operation that the organization did not want to switch/change my schedule when offered and I asked.  I learned so much and they pass over plenty people for supervisory positions and ambassadors.  Once the managers and supervisors warn you that you will be terminated due to no more Unpaid Personal Time (UPT) and when coaching kids or providing community service in the same time slot, Amazon will put you in a position not even get unemployment after the years of service.  They did offer for me to come back after 365 days.  I tried to leave with references with the people I thought cared and were friends, but it was a setup.  Since I am not from Virginia, I will not be returning to any Amazon warehouses or fulfillment centers in Virginia or Maryland.  I will take this employer with me to South Carolina.
POSITION #48  - AmeriCorps / Up2Us Sports / TeensRunDC / District of Columbia Public Schools Meredith Lonberger seems like a great person to work with.  I wish Jen Edmonds stayed onboard and things could have been different.  Jen left as a new AmeriCorps service year started.  This experience start out awkward.  I never worked with middle schoolers or in a school environment for a very long time.  District of Columbia Public Schools have a culmunation of a variety of professionals to put the school together.  Students, such as Louis Coney, kept talking and running the 7th grade lunch clubs and interrupt his game with Antoine Lewis regarding bayblades or music sessions with David Adejiji, Louis assaulted me for interruption or stopping them from doing what they were doing.  Jarmal Pannell definitely had a problem with keeping his hands to himself. Jarmal knew his size and kept pushing his friend, Shaun Suber, around.  Jarmal Pannell kept placing his anger out on me by bending my fingers, testing his testosterone, and pushing me and the table at the same time.  Jovan Miles, he was a smart, 8th grade kid and TeensRunDC alum, he came in the first season and started participating, but he started making serious interruptions with watching inappropriate flicks or facetiming girls, throwing food at walls, and assaulted and bullied me around for snitching.  The instructors and security saw what were happening.  They did not do a darn thing.  SaQuan choked Joseph Stanback, a TRDC student, Ms. Latisha Cooper (an adult) assaults SaQuan.  Alexandra Wade, so called Alee, try to keep up this energy and power of psychology.  Positives she was good at attempting to run the organization and attempt to do cohesion, but very bad at decision making as a new program manager of a non-profit.  Lizzie or Elizabeth was good at trying to do the books of the organization, but she will miss some reimbursements as it is see some and do not see some.  Michelle Morris, the Asian girl, tried to fit as much as possible, but purely depressed about not getting in at DCPS as a teacher/substitute teacher.  LeRoy Reed, he was a small and smart young boy.  His friend was Thomas Miller.  Thomas Miller kept complaining and putting down himself with weight problems calling himself fat.  Thomas Miller had a pure attachment to YuGiYoh and his cellphone.  Thomas Miller had several cellphones. I met Thomas Miller's mother and made me wonder who the daddy is because he came out pure red or light skin with black curly hair.  LeRoy Reed was little and bullying people around so people would not mess with him.  I met LeRoy Reed's grandmother alot and she kept thinking I was a DCPS administrator or instructor that could make a difference on his, his teachers', or administrative errors on his records. Thomas Miller disliked Alexandra Wade alot when she dismissed him from an after school practice for keeping and looking at cellphone.  Thomas Miller called her a female dog and all kinds of names.  Thomas Miller dislike Michelle Morris because she dismissed him from an after school practice, but he did not know what names to call her. LeRoy Reed and Thomas Miller were partially coming during Spring season after they caught on to the pattern.  Treazure Stewart was a unique female coming in with all kinds of hairstyles. Treazure Stewart talked about herself alot and able to fully provide her point of view on the lunch club subjects.  Treazure Stewart did come to school with a broken, sprained, or fractured leg.  I did not question what happened.  Joshua Davis started coming to lunch club, but he was being raised vegetarian and lie really well or make an excuse for everything that he does not like.  Alissa Rhodes, Nyasia Coleman, and Jamaya White came to lunch club religiously in the beginning and talking about all the different subjects, then the school started its sports program.  Alissa Rhodes came to one after school practice and complained it was too hot. I let her rest the remainder of practice.  Nyasia Coleman went to basketball program.  Jamaya White sided with her friends and not come at all.  Saviona Richardson, this girl is going to get alot of boys in trouble, and stepped up to all the boys challenging them to anything they say about girls.  Saviona Richardson came to a couple after school practices, then keep saying she cannot come because she is moving.  This was a repeated sentence from beginning of school year to close to end of school year.  I did meet the daddy of Saviona Richardson and her sister.  I got a lyft (TRDC paid) for the family so they could attend TRDC xmas holiday party.  Saviona Richardson did attend almost all the lunch clubs.  Evonye Simmons was convinced sometimes by the boys to attend lunch club....she looks and acts more tomboy-ish.  Evonye Simmons does talk on the subjects and participate in some of the lunch club activities.  Sevyn Robinson only came to lunch club when food is around or when the TRDC is treated by EBFSC.  Jayden Parker is a very intelligent and brilliant star.  Jayden Parker has girlpower to become famous.  I do not know what she plans to become, but it will be big.  Jayden Parker cares very much about the environment and helping others. The way she is coming out to be a selfless person is going to do wonders.  I did meet her mother and she was very kind. Jayden Parker did come to one after school practice. She did not come to anymore practices because she stated she had to get little brother from Maury Elementary.  Navar Rogers had a personal attention complex.  As TRDC coach, Navar Rogers wanted personal attention. He would put down himself to have me as a coach figure out how to uplift him.  Navar Rogers did run in the United States Arboretum Oaktoberfest 5K and did a personal record.  Thomas Miller also walked in the United States Arboretum Oaktoberfest 5K and the only thing that motivated him was to make sure he finished before someone's dog did.  When I started bringing snacks, he expected me to keep rewarding him for every good grade or good act.  I did meet Navar Rogers's guardian.  Allen Jones was a smart dude, but I already see him as a blockhead athlete and jock celebrity (meaning he does sports very well and hates the classroom).  I met Allen Jones's sister during an after school practice.  Morgan Paul was a tomboy, super smart, and intelligent.  Her English was very good and her sense on life was good.  I did meet Morgan Paul's dad.  The parents or guardian are doing a great job helping her understand the different facets of people.  She was coming to after school practices and lunch clubs, but she also was in higher achievement (another after school program) so I think her dad cracked down on what she doing after she was literally not going home after school everyday.  Jakale Lipson was the most unique student I ever met.  Jakale Lipson kept acting like she was a mute student when everyone in the school knew she could talk.  Jakale Lipson participated in lunch club written activities.  Jakale Lipson was helping the main office sometimes during lunch. With Jakale Lipson acting as a mute student in public school questions activities at home or is it truly an act to not get bothered by anyone.  John Moore is going to be a bright student and active athlete.  I can see John Moore as team captain of a sport.  Do not get John Moore talking because gives a point of view on every subject from every angle.  John Moore is very attentive, appreciates praise, and does not mind doing the work.  Ben Boomer, a TRDC alum, came once to lunch club along with his from Orlando Edwards, another TRDC alum, and stated they were in lunch club because of nothing to do.  Ben Boomer stated he was the chill and mellow guy, "nothing about nothing" type of guy.  DeMarko French kept coming to lunch club with a very loud mouth so everyone can hear him or speak over the other person. DeMarko French kept trying insult the female coaches by asking the personal questions or trying to do match maker with the female coaches.  DeMarko French kept promoting sexual activity talking about girls as female dogs and getting their private parts.  DeMarko French even felt comfortable enough to start asking me personal questions about family, having children, wanting children, how to make a baby, etc.  DeMarko French was dismissed from lunch club because TRDC moved to a new room where higher achievement or teachers stored stuff.  DeMarko French took items from boxes and threw them into the cafeteria kitchen when no one was paying attention or looking.  The cafeteria ladies had to tell me what was going on.  Malik Johnson is an internal processor of information.  Malik Johnson took a minute to process thought before he could speak an answer.  If it was not an answer or topic he did not like, Malik Johnson will get up and leave.  Malik Johnson earn a TRDC shirt and he gave the shirt away.  Christopher Fisher came TRDC because of Jovan Miles.  Christopher Fisher is one of those "I do not know what I want to be kids".  Christopher Fisher did not participate in afterschool. Christopher Fisher, Nassir Walker, Elijah Harvey and Jovan Miles kept disrupting the after school program by bullying the younger kids.  Security had the cameras and janitors saw what was happening.  All I could say, "It was inappropriate and not right."  Antoine Lewis presents himself like the victim and yes, he is bullied by other kids, but he is the first to assault a girl.  I never saw him fight or step up to any of the guys.  Antonio Sinclair is a quiet guy and attentive, who do not mind putting the work a different way. For example, at after school practice, I have all attendees do laps around Eastern Sr High School track, but Antonio Sinclair prefer to do sprints or runs up and down the football field.  Elijah Harvey was a very talented artist in the school and he listens to commands when he want to.  Jakhai Pone came to lunch club and participated, then he did not return.  Nassir Walker kept being picked on because everyone claimed he and I looked alike or I could have been his daddy.  Rashaun Bazemore, a TRDC alum, participated in lunch club.  Rashaun Bazemore and his twin brother RaQuan Bazemore wore those TRDC sweatshirts religiously to school. I met Melissa Diggins, who supposed to be after school programs coordinator, and she did absolutely nothing to support me or TRDC.  Ms. Sherry Epps was a funny lady and always talked about my lunch choices.  She, I guess, wanted me to be fat.  Ms. Kimberly George was giving me good tips on how be a better instructor or classroom management techniques that worked for her.  Mr. Christopher Grenier was the track coach and had good attendance when I saw them practice in the same places TRDC practice.  Ms. Patricia Harris was the track coach too and had pleasant personality so it seemed.  Ms. Tara Harris was an interesting social worker who had interest in the kids, but took special interest in Jayden Parker whenever she attended TRDC lunch club. Ms. Tara Harris is the one I sent the bullying email incidents to.  Mr. Joscelin Lockhart, do not know his sexuality, but if girls could talk...LOL...he was the queen bee next to Ms. Latisha Cooper.  Mr. Travis Loggins-Santiago, I kept watching how he was doing crazy and keep me guessing what island he came from.  Mr. Bennisha Lucas is a very intelligent and always fashionable on-point lady.  Mrs. Marlene Magrino, I kept speaking to her like a teacher, I did not say anything uncanny, and did not know she was the principal until February 2019.  Mrs. Ophelia Morgan was the one I thought was the principal because everyone kept sending me to her.  Now, I see why TRDC flyers never got out for the annual fun run or after school practice.  Mrs. Pamela Prescott is kind person and does most of what anyone ask of her.  She deserves a big retirement party whenever that comes.  Mr. Christopher Vann was a cool guy and level headed.  Mr. Christopher Vann did let me know when one of my TRDC students got out of line.  Brian, a new coach, seems like he was timid, introvert, and shy.  Taylor, a Howard Univ. cheerleader, came with full made up face and hair every TRDC event, meeting, or volunteering. Taylor had a car and did not want to use it for the kids.  Sasha, another Up2Us coach, did what she wanted to, had outside employment, had a boyfriend, and kept all her job.  Zachary Thal, a Jewish and Avodah coach, was trying to suck up everyone's hours and work to meet his organization's full time agreement.  Stephanie, a Jewish and Avodah coach, was at TRDC for a month before her cancer returned and she went back home.  Yassah, a Yoga instructor, was off the chain with her life experiences, bartending experiences, and when TRDC started messing up her outside employment income, she straight up quit.  Romeo, a California boy and Howard Univ student, was at TRDC and shared his experiences with the kids, but I always wondered how he paid rent, rarely came to any TRDC event, he was a member of DC Front Runners, and I do not know his sexuality.  After I got terminated, I sent the termination back all the way down the kids and told them I already had two restraining orders filed. I am always seeking how and where to file the third restraining order.  This same information is being formulated to be thrown in the court(s) of law for wrongful termination about all organizations, and not receiving the AmeriCorps education award from Up2Us Sports Inc (New York, NY).  I could not get DC unemployment because not enough time passed and income earned.
POSITION #49  - United Parcel Service I gave this a second chance. This work environment was definitely different from the 1998.  Jarvis Raynor, HR, gave a realistic presentation of the new UPS in 2019. As a preloader, package handlers had to handle three (3) trucks and range 200 packages to 700 packages per truck.  You have thirty days to qualify as preloader. UPS literally was going through people like water and it was a never ending cycle.  My overall manager, William Thompson Jr, known as "JR", was annoying as hell as he kept reiterating stats and procedures to follow. It was impossible to load 75lbs to 130lbs package with 2 or 3 steps inside a truck.  It was insane.  I was calm, cool, and collective.  Julia Barbarczuk, Trainer/Supervisor, was informative and kept following up with plenty of paperwork while on the job.  Angie and Emma, the belt supervisors, were cool and very helpful when the load was light or heavy.  Angela was the Army sergeant in her commands.  Emma was the repeater and coach.  This job was located in Springfield - Newington, VA area.  Cooper was another manager like JR and did crazy by sending me to various workpiles to try and solve them including a truck with payload of 750 packages using a stair to step up in the truck.  The HR manager Jarvis D. Raynor talked to all my references and tried to throw the same game back at me.  I did become eligible for unemployment because of a different rule and did not violate any company policy. However, if there is an ineligible status on the same claim, then you can keep filing, but have to appeal the ineligible status in order to get paid.  My unemployment compensation with Virginia is still pending.
POSITION #50  - Federal Express I applied for the Handler position. It was good to go to familiar ground of Dulles Airport.  I met most of everyone and did the paperwork.  They are very integrated with the United States Postal Service.  United States Postal Service does have a clearance process.  I did go through the Washington Dulles Airport training to pick up my identification badge.  Unfortunately, I did not go to Federal Express because of the travel distance of 35-40 miles one way for a part time and crazy hours. I will take Federal Express as a possible employer in South Carolina.
POSITION #51  - Abercrombie and Fitch I reapplied for this position.  Met two managers Mecca and Luen and made the interview.  It was a great location in the Georgetown community, but I was not hired.
POSITION #52  - PeaPod / Giant Delivery LLC I applied for a delivery driver position.  I had this position along with the AmeriCorps and UPS jobs.  It was another blue collar job.  My hands and fingers were going through slams, pinches, and smashes.  I went to Hanover, MD to have my initial interview.  I got on the PM schedule.  It was fun earning cash tips and meeting the customers.  The challenge was the routes or navigating the truck in Washington, DC streets.  In 90 probationary period, you cannot miss any item delivered to customer and cannot have any accidents.  I did have two minor accidents and they came fast.  The first one was not my fault with a latino lady was driving someone else's car and backed directly into the truck.  The second one was I parked too close to a parked car on one way street and the rear  bumper outside lip caught the front end of the car. I did train with the #1 and #2 drivers of the Springfield warehouse.  I do think about PeaPod / Giant Delivery LLC every time I see those green trucks.  Despite everything, I do miss this job because it was so different, a blue collar job, and driving as a career was not even thought of in my field options.  The uniforms were good and brand new.  The pay was decent.  I got a chance to look at the beauty of Virginia especially when I thought Manassas, Ashburn, Great Falls, etc. were far places.  The job did give me flashbacks to old stomping grounds of Chantilly, Herndon, Centreville, Fairfax, Alexandria, Arlington, Springfield, etc.  I did become eligible for unemployment because the company did not respond.  However, if there is an ineligible status on the same claim, then you can keep filing, but have to appeal the ineligible status in order to get paid.  My unemployment compensation with Virginia is still pending.

United Parcel Service On my final week April 15-18, 2019, UPS made me very sick the entire week and with the weather 65 to 75 degrees. On the belt in my area, UPS ran the warehouse heaters at 90 degrees making it very unbearable. UPS terminated me the day before graduating.  I did the job, but the only appreciation I received was attendance on coming in every day.  I filed a grievance regarding the situation, but OSHA stated the complaint could not be filed because it has no control on warehouse temperature conditions.
Amazon After crazy termination debacle, I filed a complaint on most of the major conditions of the warehouse from carbon monoxide detectors not working to other issues.  This complaint was accepted and filed as an informal complaint since I was no longer there.
US Department of Defense I filed this compliant, but OSHA stated time lapse.  I was in a long discussion with the OSHA officer discussing all the issues of workplace violence, etc.  It was a very good and informative conversation.
ABBTECH Professional Services I filed this compliant, but OSHA stated time lapse.  It was brought up in the civil case on both Plaintiff and Defendant's testimony.
PeaPod - Giant Delivery LLC I filed this complaint against the trucks I drove and other issues in the warehouse.  This complaint was accepted and filed as an informal complaint since I was no longer there.
Yoh Services LLC I filed this complaint, but OSHA stated time lapse.
AmeriCorps / Up2Us Sports / TeensRunDC / District of Columbia Public Schools I filed this one, but OSHA stated it was out of their jurisdiction.
Birthday Month Festivities I planned major and minor activities for my birthday month, but it seems someone or people did not want me to enjoy it.  This is what happened. 1992-1993 - accidentally lost keys and took no issue with it because replacements were made. In South Carolina, I accidentally lost wallet and replaced everything....nothing really was in it since I was just a kid.
2015 - In New York City, keys were lost and given back to me; even though, I already paid to have the keys replaced.  I was elated and superbly surprised for as large as this city is...that I got something back.
2016 - In Chicago, I became ill and could not control the loss of my wallet and other original identification documents....nothing came back to me.  One out of my set of three keys went missing.
2019 - In Washington, DC, keys were purposely taken from me in March 2019....I already had a backup or 2nd pair. My bicycle seat cover stolen twice for no apparent reason. Life kept on trucking. Then in June 2019, my wallet was purposely taken from me and fraudulent activity occurred immediately.  Nothing materialistically came back to me. The banks, credit card companies, and I fixed the fraudulent activity.  In my sacred home of Washington, DC, I am confused and baffled on the purpose of harming or hurting me in that way in a sacred place of the gym.  Questions unanswered:  Is it to just repeat the same incidents that already happened with family and do it with a bunch of strangers?  Is it to ensure I was physically in the city?  Is it to ruin the happiness and enjoyment I do around my birthday month?  Is it because I talk about everything to the public?  Is it to say we hate you and the way I carry my life?  Is it just do because it is happening to other people?  Is it to do it just to get another police report?  Is it to prevent me from getting a job with WMATA as a special police officer?  Is it to see whether or not I commit crimes without identification or access to money?  Is it to say I cannot physically f*ck up the person that does the harm/hurt for a self-defense plea?  Yes, I felt anger towards me when I went to the Nationals vs another team (2x) and announced it via twitter that Nationals won both games. Either way it goes, 30 years of having the gym/fitness centers as a sacred place has been violated.  40 years of church as a sacred place is being changed to ensure nothing happens there.  I am still on schedule on moving away from Washington, DC.  I stayed still long enough.  After the wallet incident, I will not be renewing anything regarding Washington, DC...let it all expire next year or whenever they expire...join the State of Connecticut.  I will only leave Washington, DC with my corporation headquarters.  I was genuinely asked by some of my organizations to run for Mayor again, and I seriously gave it a thought, but nah....  
Another thing, DC tried to reproduce what Atlanta already did on Flag Day.  DC (NYC) had a red and grey taxi with an ethopian/black driver run me down or hit me from the back at an K St NW & 6th St NW intersection and I am on a bicycle, and knock me to the ground sending me to the George Washington University hospital.  Thanks to the bicyclist and witnesses for taking care of me until ambulance, MPD, and DC Fire and EMS arrived while everyone was calling 911.  After five hours, full examination and x-rays, the doctors and nurses cleared me that I was okay to go home.  At least the white woman driver with her SUV immediately compensated me for ruining my bicycle and the Atlanta bike accident did not send me to the hospital.
Another thing, DC MPD decided to attempt to take credit for giving me someone else's empty, very dirty wallet along with my five (5) cards I cannot use. It was in an evidence bag with things listed on it that was never in the bag.  The incident report quickly reviewed stated their research and contact attempts to reach me.  I am very sorry for poor, poverish, or non-intelligent people, who cannot get themselves out of the legal process or criminal law.  I personally apologize what people do that have power over your life do.  It does give me some sort of relief I did not win Mayor for real and question how some candidates' or incumbent promote, such positive numbers, to retain office.
Here is the backdrop or background of the wallet situation at Sport and Health Northwest (Tenleytown) - my letter of termination and cancellation:
After 30 plus years of fitness and working out in gyms across any city and any state, Capitol Hill Sport and Health showed twice that they can pick locks, then I went Tenleytown Sport and Health.  I thought with the 55 plus gray hairs senior folk that it would be okay to workout there.  I did bring a guest one day to show him the gym and his similar kinfolk, and he got chastised by the Tenleytown sales personnel.  On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, I happened to show up late in the evening around 6:30 PM and trying to catch at least one group fitness class and get a workout in.  I did see some minority faces I never saw before in the gym so I did not question.  I prepared to leave and get my normal shower in.  I went to the Men’s Locker Room.  My locker number was 50.  I insert my key and the entire lock fell apart.  I asked the front desk if it was an accident that my lock was cut.  He (a young white man front desk clerk) informed me to check for my wallet and other valuables.  Sure enough, my entire wallet from my pants and my checkbooks were stolen directly from my bag.  The front desk stated he was the only one on duty to run entire gym.  He stated some people came to check out the gym and did it in less than 5 minutes.  No camera footage and no discernment of the individuals especially if he is paid minimum wage individual with no manager on staff.  At Sport and Health, mid-range price point was to keep rift-raft out.  DC Metropolitan Police Department was called and report is made.  I am locking down my cards.   DC MPD had the nerve to reiterate this happens a lot in the Tenleytown area.
So based on this rollup of a situation, this is my decision.  Capitol Hill, I am terminating my membership on Thursday, June 6, 2019.  No termination fee is charged. No monthly membership fee is charged.  If any fee is charged without my consent July 2019, then I will inconvenience you and all employees’ names at Capitol Hill and Tenleytown, and send it through every system in the United States and the District of Columbia, and at the end send you a bill that you will have to pay.  Thanks for your attention to this matter.  My weapon of choice:  Tell everything to everybody.   At least, I do give the courtesy of telling your first.
Civil Action Suits ABBTECH Professional Services ABBTECH stayed in the State of Virginia and defended their position in Arlington County Circuit Court.  The initial case was dismissed and workplace violence was permissible based on the configuration told.  The configuration is one company invites you in, another company assaults you, and the government hosts the place where it can happen....if you report it, the company that (holds your clearance) invited you in files an incident report on your clearance....then the government files a decision on your clearance...thus leaving you without a clearance.
YOH Services LLC, a Day and Zimmermann Company Emailed copies of everything that was happening in Arlington County (Virginia) Circuit Court was sent to all Yoh offices. Their offices were moved out of Virginia to escape a Class 1 Misdemeanor of Simple Assault and Battery.
United States Department of Defense The Arlington County (Virginia) Circuit Court case was upgraded to United States District Court. It is currently in progress. Two US Department of Justice United States Attorneys and a special assistant attorney are defending US DOD.  My motions are being heard on June 14, 2019, which is Flag Day, or making a decision on the papers.  In relation to the ABBTECH situation, if you are non-military personnel holding a clearance and assaulted or violated, you have two years from the date the incident occurred to file an administrative review with the Department of Army, Navy (Marines), Air Force, or Coast Guard.  You have to google or search the internet for the information....this is not general public knowledge and it is not covered in any of its training for any project.  I am still working the case.
EuroMotors Montgomery County (Maryland) Circuit Court heard the case.  It was a good and long testimonial discussion with the judge to connect EuroMotors to the incidents that happened with my Mercedes-Benz.  However, the initial case was dismissed, but I can re-filed on basis of harm with the repossession.
PODS Middlesex County (New Jersey) Superior Court has this case.  No response, yet.  Still in discovery period.
More civil cases to file, but one to three at a time.
Class Action Suits Postmates I complied and got a response.
Grubhub I complied and got a response.
Uber I complied and got a response.
Caviar I complied and got a response.
Walmart I complied and pending response.
Wells Fargo I complied and got a response because proof of evidence was not supplied.
A Recruitment Process Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority I got notification in April regarding the Special Police Officer position with Metro Transit Police.  I did not go in April 2019 because I did not have all my documents together.  Then, I got another notice regarding a May recruiting event.  I paid quite a bit of money to get originals and copies of all identification.  I went attended the recruiting and got to the first interview.  First interviewer stated they needed the original birth certificate with seal embossed on it.  First interviewer (a white man) did question why someone like me with all this education would want a $36,000 job.  I left and purchased birth certificate again.  I filled out the online application again and got a June 2019 notice day of recruitment.  I went and attended.  Second interviewer (a white lady) looked at my questionnaire and I had all the pages. She stated I needed another work reference, more neighborhood references and everyone has to be local to area. She stated to reschedule. Guess what I did? I walked straight the door and did not look back.  People that were to the recruiting event have been doing it for months and did not get through.

2019 Detroit Auto Show: Hits, Misses, and Revelations
DETROIT, Michigan—Thirty years after Toyota launched Lexus and Nissan introduced Infiniti here, and 27 years after Chrysler smashed Cobo Hall’s front windows with the 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the North American International Auto Show is done with January. The reviews from jaded auto journos are mixed, and the press day crowds were down despite Toyota and China’s GAC flying in press from overseas. We’re pretty confident, though, in saying what Detroit lacked in quantity, it made up for in quality this year. There is more to like than there is to avoid, even if the Japanese and Chinese automakers are the only ones left who still build concepts, and even though Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Mini, Audi, and Volvo this year joined a bunch of other automakers who had followed Aston Martin’s decision to leave town after its Zen display of a decade ago. Herewith, our regular compendium of criticism, the good, the bad, and the philosophical, this time about what there is to see at the 2019 NAIAS:
HIT: Toyota Supra
Too many are getting stuck on the BMW partnership and the long gestation process, nitpicking the design, and decrying the lack of a manual transmission (which by the way Supra chief engineer Tetsuya Tada has not ruled out, so call your favorite dealer and demand it). Can we all just agree that what Toyota has done is give the world what by all accounts should be a nimble, kick-ass, rear-drive sports car that’s relatively attainable, price-wise? Call it whatever the hell you want, the fact that this car exists at all is pretty remarkable in this day and age. And it’s all but assured that hard-core variants will be in the offing. Yeah, what a terrible thing Toyota has done . . . not.—Mike Floyd
Automotive journalists can be a funny group. After wishing for a new Supra for years, some of them were overheard describing the final production car as less than thrilling, with others going so far as to call it “ugly.” “Look at all those fake plastic vents and intakes,” they decried. But as Supra designer Nobua Nakamura told editor-in-chief Mike Floyd, those nonfunctional pieces could become functional on future variants of the car. I don’t think the new Supra is perfect in the appearance department, and its roofline does look proportionally odd from some angles. But for the love of Suzuka, I’m excited to get a chance to drive it once test vehicles become available. If it lights up twisting roads as I expect it will, any niggling quibbles I have with its styling will go right off the nearest cliffside.—Mac Morrison
The biggest, most anticipated thing at this show is not an SUV, or even an autonomous tall electric sedan, but a sports car. Yes, it’s essentially a BMW Z4 built in Austria by Magna, but at least it has its own sheetmetal, which is more than you can say for the 86. And I’d take that Toyota 86 over most of the cars on the market today. Since the beginning of time, sports cars have relied on sharing some components to make development costs work out. In his introduction of the car, Akio Toyoda said he hopes Toyota will build more new sports cars in the future. Here’s to seeing him fulfill that wish.—Todd Lassa
MISS: Toyota Supra
This was easily the most anticipated car of the show, and I have no doubt it will be a blast to drive. But what is with Toyota outsourcing its performance cars? Sure, it’s great that Toyota will be selling a re-skinned BMW. But right in the same room as the BMW Supra is the Lexus LC, a 2018 Automobile All-Star and proof positive that Toyota knows how to design scintillating cars. With all the emphasis on making Camrys and RAV4s better to drive—which they are, by the way—what does it say when you outsource your halo sports car? I can’t imagine the effect this must have had on the morale of their engineering corps. “Nice job on the new Camrys, and oh, by the way, that new Supra? We’re getting BMW to do it.” Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to have the Supra back—but I’d prefer a Toyota Supra.—Aaron Gold
REVELATION: The Supra almost wasn’t a Supra
In a chat at the Detroit show with Supra chief designer Nobua Nakamura, he told us that in July of 2013 that he and his team started sketching out ideas for a model that was at first billed as a nameless sports-car project. It was only after seeing the positive reception given to the FT-1 concept—created by Toyota’s Calty design house in California—at the 2014 Detroit show that the FT-1 would become the primary design inspiration for the sports-car project that would eventually be dubbed Supra. And the rest, as they say, is history.—MF
HIT: Akio Toyoda
For giving the best speech I’ve seen at an auto show in years, if not ever. No boring sales numbers. No bits of badly faked enthusiasm. Toyoda-san’s speech was funny, it was too the point, and though it was scripted—I was reading it on the teleprompter along with him—it’s obvious he’s seriously jazzed about this car (even if it is an automatic BMW).—AG
HIT: Fernando Alonso
My wife thinks so, anyway. Alonso appeared briefly on stage with Akio Toyoda for the Toyota Supra launch. Toyoda was gracious in acknowledging that the two-time Formula 1 champion (for Ferrari) and one-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner (for Toyota) is driving another marque at the 24 Hours of Daytona later this month (a Cadillac).—TL
HIT: Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
For the jaded, it might be easy to look at the new GT500 and see just another jacked-up performance variant of Ford’s pony car. I get that . . . but whatever. More than 700 horsepower (what’s the final number, Ford?!) from the 5.2-liter supercharged V-8, a dual-clutch gearbox, zero to 60 mph in the mid-three-second range, a sub-11-second quarter-mile, magnetic dampers, and an optional Carbon-Fiber Track package with carbon wheels, rear-seat delete, and more? Find me a challenging road course and let’s get it on. Now.—MM

This plucky Indian company is showing off its not-road-legal CJ-5 clone right in Jeep’s back yard. That takes cojones!—AG
HIT: Lexus LC Convertible concept
Rare is the car that gets scalped and doesn’t look great, but even rarer is a car as stunning to behold as the LC droptop. For all the coupe’s beauty—okay, some folks don’t like the spindle grille, but I think it works there—its overall attitude and stance strike me more as coming from a place of aggression. This concept elevates the LC to true elegance. I wouldn’t be shocked to see examples of the eventual production version at various concours d’élégance in the coming decades.—Erik Johnson
Yes, please. We love the LC hardtop, which was a 2018 All-Star, and with the top down, it takes the LC’s delightful GT style to another level.—MF

MISS: Cadillac XT6
It’s a damn shame what’s happened to Cadillac. Yes, I get it, its sedan sales are cratering and OMG it needs crossovers ASAP. I’m sure the XT6 and XT4 will be sales salve, but they come off as old GM badge-engineered exercises, and beyond the expressive grilles look uninspired. While they may put the brand back in the black, it’s sad to see really capable cars like the CT6 be minimized. At least Cadillac gave that car some serious attention in the form of the 550-hp CT6-V (which already is sold out). There is some hope in the form of the emerging EV strategy. Maybe those cars won’t have alphanumeric names.—MF
As another grizzled veteran told me, this three-row luxury SUV would have been a hit in 2012, or even 2016. While there’s nothing wrong with the new XT6 other than the Honda Pilot–esque side surfacing and the too-familiar GM interior plastics and switchgear, there’s nothing about it that pops. While I once believed that rear-wheel-drive proportions don’t matter on a tall SUV, the new Lincoln Aviator and even the 2020 Ford Explorer (gasp) have proved otherwise.—TL

While they may put the brand back in the black, it’s sad to see really capable cars like the CT6 be minimized. At least Cadillac gave that car some serious attention in the form of the 550-hp CT6-V (which already is sold out). There is some hope in the form of the emerging EV strategy.
