COVID-19 Relief Scammers From Detroit Get Arrested For Fraud After Bragging On Social Media, One Still On The Run
Folks are still out here allegedly scamming the system after gaining access to unemployment benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed so many scammers and the drama continues.
A man and woman from Detroit – who are reportedly dating - have been accused of scheming to steal unemployment insurance money that would help essential workers during the pandemic. Sounds familiar? If not, click HERE.
According to reports, 25-year-old Johnny Richardson and his 27-year-old hairstylist girlfriend Micahia Taylor were charged with wire fraud, and are accused of teaming with a contract employee of Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency to steal more than $2.5 million.
It’s alleged that Johnny Richardson and Micahia Taylor would post on Instagram pictures of the stuff they bought with stolen money. https://t.co/5dHkqLRQL8
— FOX 32 News (@fox32news) October 28, 2020
That third person – at the center of this scam-ation – was identified by police as 39-year-old Brandi Hawkins. Brandi, also from Detroit, was charged in the scheme in July and was a contract employee at the UIA. Hawkins is accused of fraudulently distributing more than $2.5 million in federal and state funds.
"BABY YOU DESERVE EVERYTHING I GOT THE BIG HOUSE YOU WANTED AND THE CAR AND THE JEWELRY," Richardson wrote in the Instagram post. "BTW I LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND I'M NOT DONE NEXT WEEK I GOT SOMETHING BETTER."
It’s alleged the scammers were flexing on social media with their luxury gifts after being issued the funds, and pics were snapped before they went private with their accounts.
The Detroit News reports:
Johnny Richardson, 25, and Micahia Taylor, 27, both from Detroit, are accused of filing fraudulent claims. They would then tell an employee at the state's Unemployment Insurance Agency about their claims and that employee would release the payments, U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider's Office announced Tuesday.
That third person was Brandi Hawkins, 39, also from Detroit, who was charged in the scheme in July and was a contract employee at the UIA. Hawkins is accused of fraudulently distributing more than $2.5 million in federal and state funds.
Investigating agents were able to link the unemployment claims made by Richardson and Taylor to their Instagram accounts, where they routinely posted pictures of themselves with expensive items. Posts on Richardson’s account show him wearing designer clothing and diamonds, and driving luxury vehicles, according to the complaint.
Another report revealed how others who profitted from the scheme spent their ill-gotten money:
They are the latest people charged with fraud involving federal pandemic assistance. Several people in Metro Detroit have been charged in recent months, including Detroiter Darrell Lamont Baker, 51, who prosecutors say schemed to obtain almost $600,000, some of it spent buying two Cadillac Escalades, a Dodge Charger, and a Hummer.
The couple bragged on Instagram about spending the money on luxury items, including a new Mercedes-Benz, trips and custom jewelry, according to criminal complaints unsealed in federal court.
In one post, Richardson showed a Mercedes-Benz SUV that retails for more than $130,000 — a birthday gift for Taylor, according to the government.
Interestingly, Johnny has yet to be found. And $2.5M is missing right along with him, which prosecutors stated makes Micahia a flight risk. Yup - she alrady had her court date yesterday. So it seems Johnny left her holdig the bag.
Federal agents spent Tuesday searching for Richardson. Taylor, meanwhile, made a brief appearance in federal court in Ann Arbor that provided a sharp contrast to her lifestyle portrayed on social media.
Instead of wearing a bikini and soaking in a bathtub surrounded by rose petals, Taylor wore handcuffs, a blue zip-up jacket and a dour expression before being released on $10,000 unsecured bond.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Wyse wanted her to wear a GPS tether, noting that her boyfriend is missing as is most of the $2.5 million in pandemic aid.
“We simply do not know where that $2.5 million is,” Wyse told Executive U.S. Magistrate Judge R. Steven Whalen. “We think that makes her a flight risk.”
The GPS tracker request was denied.
Another Detroit resident named Jermaine Rose a lead claims reviewer for the Unemployment Insurance Agency, and Serenity Poynter, was charged in the scheme after being accused of filing fraudulent unemployment claims. Rose was accused of working with Poynter, releasing payments for claims known to be fraudulent.
Sighs…
We have to do better.

Future SUVs: Coming Soon to a Dealer Near You
Whether it’s cheap gas, perceived safety, or just collective preference, SUVs and crossovers are the fastest-growing segment of the vehicle market, mostly at the expense of cars. American shoppers can’t get enough of ’em, and automakers are happy to design as many of these higher-profit margin vehicles as they can to meet the demand.
Much as cars used to offer a wide variety of body styles and functions appealing to all sorts of buyers, SUVs and crossovers today come in seemingly endless shapes, sizes, and powertrains. From EVs to rock crawlers, there’s something for everyone coming to your local showroom soon.
Ford Mustang Mach-E
What’s New: The latest addition to the Mustang model line is a battery-electric crossover four-door SUV. Really. Although the Mach-E looks nothing like any Mustang before it, the Blue Oval’s EV certainly packs the straight-line punch to woo pony car fans. The most powerful model—the nearly 460-hp Mach-E GT—aims to scoot from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The slinky crossover relies on one of two available battery packs to power its standard rear-axle motor and optional front-axle motor: a 76-kW-hr Standard Range pack or a 99-kW-hr Extended Range setup. Ford estimates a maximum driving range of 300 miles between charges for rear-drive Mach-Es equipped with the Extended Range battery, though a heavy right foot will surely drag down that distance.
What’s Not: Save for its Mustang nomenclature, the Mach-E shares little else with any Ford before it.
When: Late 2020
How Much: $44,995
Genesis GV80
What’s New: At long last, the Genesis brand’s first SUV is launching for the 2021 model year. The GV80 is a midsize, rear-drive-based SUV with seating for five. The GV80 will be plenty luxurious in base form, offering extra-posh features such as diamond-stitched leather, ash wood trim, augmented reality navigation, and more at a competitive price. Engine choices for the U.S. will include a 2.5-liter turbocharged I-4 making 300 hp and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 good for 375 hp. Both engines will come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
What’s Not: The GV80 is all-new from the ground up, but the design hasn’t changed much from the excellent concept we first saw in 2017.
When: Summer 2020
How Much: $49,925
Cadillac Escalade/Escalade ESV
What’s New: Cadillac shares its stretched, independently suspended architecture, 6.2-liter V-8 and I-6 diesel engines, and 10-speed transmission with the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon. It justifies its hefty price premium with such tech treasures as 38 inches of curved OLED display screen, augmented reality navigation, Super Cruise, night vision, and AKG Studio Reference 36-speaker sound. New for 2021, a Sport model features blackout trim. Cadillac offers eight interior color themes that can be decorated with myriad woods and leather sew patterns. Standard-wheelbase versions will launch late this year, with the Suburban-size ESV following in early 2021.
What’s Not: Platinum remains the ne plus ultra trim grade.
When: Late 2020 (ESV early 2021)
How Much: $77,500–$102,000 (est)
Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban
What’s New: Nearly everything, but most important: an independent rear suspension. This change, plus the addition of 4.9 and 6.8 inches to the Tahoe’s wheelbase and length (Suburban adds 4.1 and 1.3 inches) aims to again wrest dimensional and ride/handling superiority from Ford’s Expedition/Max. Fourth-gen magnetic ride control shocks are optional, with the upper trims getting MR plus height-adjustable air suspension. There’s a new 270-hp, 460-lb-ft 3.0-liter I-6 diesel option, and all models get a 10-speed automatic. The fancier High Country trim helps keep the Chevy faithful from straying to Yukon Denalis.
What’s Not: The 5.3- and 6.2-liter V-8s continue, adding DFM cylinder deactivation; 2500 and 3500 variants are dropped.
When: Mid-2020
How Much: $50,295–$70,895 (Tahoe), $52,995–$73,595 (Suburban)
GMC Yukon/Yukon XL
What’s New: To everything mentioned in Chevy’s Tahoe/Suburban entry, add GMC’s AT4 off-road-optimized package, which builds on Chevy’s Z71 hardware, for both Yukons. It adds Active Response 4WD electronics plus an electric-locking limited-slip differential, red tow hooks, and more luxurious interior trim. Denali models (60 percent of sales) get a unique dash with integrated touchscreen—rather than one perched on top. There are also real wood inserts, a 15-inch color head-up display, four color themes, and a GMC-exclusive power-sliding center console with a “safe drawer.”
What’s Not: The level of exterior bling on Denali models.
When: Early Summer 2020
How Much: $51,995–$54,595 (Yukon), $54,695–$75,395 (XL)
Ford Bronco Sport
What’s New: The Ford Bronco Sport is the rugged cousin to the Ford Escape, which it shares underpinnings with. The off-road-focused compact SUV is unibody and front-wheel-drive based, but Ford considers it part of the Bronco family, and as such it shares some styling cues with the larger, body-on-frame Bronco. The Bronco Sport is expected to have the 180-hp 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder as its base engine and an optional 250-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, both mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive will likely be standard. The look is boxier and more upright than the rounded, urban Escape—with shorter overhangs, underbody protection, a two-piece liftgate, chunky roof rails, and black plastic fenders. In keeping with Ford’s overall plans, there will be a hybrid or plug-in hybrid version.
What’s Not: It shares its front-wheel-drive platform and its engines with the Ford Escape.
When: late 2020
How Much: $30,000 (est)
Nissan Rogue
What’s New: Nissan’s best-seller is moving to a new platform shared with Renault and Mitsubishi alliance to keep it among the top 10 best-selling vehicles in America. What you’ll see and touch has been brought into line with Nissan’s latest styling language inside and out. We expect Nissan’s latest 2.5-liter inline-four under the hood driving the front (or all four) wheels, and there’s also the possibility Nissan will put its clever VC-Turbo inline-four under the hood of a sporty model. No matter what, expect a continuously variable transmission. Inside, look for an optional digital dash and a 9.0-inch infotainment screen borrowed from the new Titan.
What’s Not: We expect the new Rogue to ride on the same platform as before, and a number of its parts and features will be shared from other Nissan products.
When: Late 2020
How Much: $27,000 (est)
Volkswagen Tiguan
What’s New: Volkswagen’s global best-seller is due up for a refresh, and you’ll recognize it right away with its sportier nose job and all-LED external lighting front and back. Inside, the Tiguan gets a sportier steering wheel, borrowed from the larger Atlas Cross Sport, and VW’s latest infotainment system with over-the-air update capability. Also available: multicolor interior ambient lighting to set the mood.
What’s Not: Everything else. Volkswagen is considering a plug-in hybrid drivetrain option for the next-generation Tiguan, but for now, it sticks with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic.
When: Fall 2021
How Much: $26,000 (est)
Alfa Romeo Tonale
What’s New: Alfa needs to expand its lineup, and fast. SUVs are hot, so next up is the subcompact Tonale to slot under the compact Stelvio. We expect it to be front-drive based with the option of all-wheel drive, and it will use FCA’s small SUV architecture. The Tonale Concept was powered by an unspecified plug-in hybrid drivetrain, which we think could be the 1.3-liter turbo-four in front and electric motor in the rear used by the Europe-only Jeep Renegade plug-in hybrid, which makes 240 hp total. We also think the Alfa will get a non-hybrid option, probably a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4.
What’s Not: The Tonale will share a platform and likely powertrains with other FCA small crossovers, such as the Jeep Renegade.
When: Early 2021
How Much: $35,000 (est)
Audi E-Tron Sportback
What’s New: Although it’s essentially a fastback version of the E-Tron SUV, with a new roof, new rear quarter panels, and a new tailgate, the E-Tron Sportback has a more carlike presence, like a tall hatchback rather than an SUV trying to look sporty. The Sportback will benefit from a number of technical upgrades from Audi designed to boost range. The front motor will disengage under normal driving, the 95-kW-hr battery’s thermal management system has been made more efficient, and the battery’s usable capacity has been increased to 86.5 kW-hr. As with the regular E-Tron, the well-equipped Sportback will be available in Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels.
What’s Not: The powertrain is the same as the regular E-Tron, with a 187-hp, 231-lb-ft motor at the rear axle and a 168-hp, 182-lb-ft motor up front. Total system output is 355 hp and 413 lb-ft, and an overboost mode gives 402 hp and 490 lb-ft for 8 seconds.
When: 2021
How Much: $80,000 (est)
Kia Sorento
What’s New: Completely redesigned, the Sorento receives a new windswept exterior design. Kia also upgrades the interior with a large screen and sleek controls. Expect ride quality to improve now that the SUV sits on a new platform. New engine options should give the Sorento an extra pep in its step. A 1.6-liter turbo-four works with an electric motor to produce 227 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, and a 2.5-liter turbo-four makes 277 hp and 311 lb-ft.
What’s Not: Some styling cues reference the Telluride, including the vertical taillights.
When: Late 2020
How Much: $30,000 (est)
Volkswagen ID 4
What’s New: Volkswagen has learned Americans aren’t much interested in hatchbacks, which is why the first of its all-electric MEB-platform vehicles to arrive stateside will be an SUV. The ID 4 is about the size of Tiguan, but the interior is much roomier. The MEB architecture follows the now-familiar skateboard platform, with a large battery pack between the wheels and motors at the axles. The base ID 4 is likely to be a single-motor rear-drive model, with a GTX version offering two motors, all-wheel drive, and more performance. Top-end ID 4s are expected to have a range of close to 300 miles.
What’s Not: The interior hardware is shared with the ID 3 hatch recently launched in Europe, with a compact digital instrument panel in front of the driver and a large centrally mounted touchscreen for infotainment and HVAC functions.
When: 2021
How Much: $35,000 (est)
Volvo XC40 Recharge
What’s New: The XC40 Recharge marks the debut of Volvo’s first-ever all-electric powertrain. The Recharge shares Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture with the regular XC40, but there’s a liquid-cooled 78-kW-hr battery pack under the floor and a motor on each axle. Volvo claims 408 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque and a 0–60 time of 4.9 seconds. As with all new Volvos, top speed will be limited to 112 mph. Volvo does its own battery research and development in-house and says the available capacity of the battery pack will be 75 kW-hr, which should easily give the XC40 Recharge a range of 240 miles or more.
What’s Not: Apart from the blanked-off grille, the XC40 Recharge looks just like a regular XC40. That’s no bad thing, as Volvo’s entry-level SUV is one of the most stylish in the segment.
When: 2021
How Much: $55,000 (est)
Polestar 2
What’s New: Polestar 2 is the second model for the Scandinavian brand spun off from Volvo to concentrate on performance electric vehicles. Polestar 1 was a plug-in hybrid, but Polestar 2 is a mainstream all-electric premium four-door sedan to battle the Tesla Model 3. The 2 will have a range of about 275 miles with the 78-kW-hr battery in the floor. Front and rear motors provide a combined output of 400 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque. A vegan interior is optional, the infotainment system uses an Android operating system to run Google automotive services, and the advanced tech allows the car to try to anticipate the occupants’ needs.
What’s Not: It features an adaptation of the Volvo CMA architecture used by the Volvo XC40 and the Volvo 11-inch Sensus infotainment screen.
When: Summer 2020
How Much: $63,000 (est)
Fisker Ocean
What’s New: Longtime BMW and Aston Martin designer—and creator of the ill-fated Fisker Karma—Henrik Fisker has bounced back with a green-friendly, five-passenger EV crossover called the Ocean. The Ocean checks all the contemporary EV boxes—up to 300 miles of range, battery capacity north of 80 kW-hr, base 2WD and available AWD, a cool 16-inch center-mounted touchscreen with a haptic touchpad, and a charging partnership with Electrify America. Fun features? A novel multilink rear suspension, a roll-down rear-hatch window for carrying long objects, and karaoke words displayed on the head-up display. The Ocean will be significantly composed of recycled materials such as retrieved ocean plastics and old fishing net.
What’s Not: Although the Fisker name is familiar, everything about the Ocean is new, including the company behind the name.
When: Summer 2022
How Much: $37,499

CarGurus: Looking Forward to 2020
We’re coming to the end of another year. But with 2020 right around the corner, we’ve got plenty to look forward to. We ask our editors what they’re excited to see in the coming year. Feel free to add your own thoughts here or on our Facebook page.
Megan Hennessey, CarGurus US Editor
Video courtesy of Cadillac
Next year, I predict we’ll see even bigger screens in our cars. Tech-focused companies, like Byton, have tested this idea in their prototypes; Byton has showcased a 49-inch screen in its M-Byte. Next year may be the year we finally see these massive screens in production-level vehicles. Cadillac kicked off this trend with a massive 38-inch screen in its 2021 Escalade. These bigger screens will likely mean the death of buttons and knobs, which several of our reviewers will certainly miss.
The other big prediction I have for 2020 is seeing more technology integrated into our driving experience. You can already use your phone as a key with Ford and Hyundai, for example. And Kia lets you sync schedules with other drivers, which you can see through a car’s infotainment system. I predict items like GM Marketplace will become more common across automakers. Soon, you may be able to shop, watch movies, and order dinner from the driver’s seat. Just make sure your data is secure!
Chris Knapman, CarGurus UK Editor
I’ve decided to go big for my 2020 preview—so let’s put to one side what will no doubt be a huge number of electric and hybrid cars for the (relative) masses, and focus instead on two top-tier contenders.
First up is the Ferrari Roma, pictured above, which is interesting not so much for its powertrain as the fact its styling represents such a break from tradition for the Italian firm. For in the Roma, there are generous swoops and curves that give it a softer, more elegant aesthetic than you’ll see in other modern Ferraris. Some have questioned if the Roma, as a result, looks a bit too much like an Aston Martin—but for me, it’s a gloriously individual piece of design that also happens to be home to a wonderful, sculpted interior and a 612bhp 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8. Sounds like a good recipe…
If the Ferrari is special, then the Mercedes-AMG One promises to be quite simply off the chart. What we have here is a Mercedes Formula One drivetrain reimagined to work in a road car. So that’s a 1.6-liter V6 with four electric motors that together make more than 1,000 bhp. There’s also an 8-speed paddle-shift gearbox, pushrod suspension, ceramic brake discs, and a steering wheel that looks like something Lewis Hamilton might use at the weekends. So, yes, it’s going to be a pretty serious bit of kit.
Production is limited to 275 units with the price for each running into the millions. But ownership isn’t what makes cars like this interesting. No, what’s fascinating is seeing just how far (and how fast) the humble motor car can be taken.
Matt Smith, CarGurus US Editor
Prediction: We’re going to get dirty in 2020.
First, the Land Rover Defender is returning to the United States. This might not be cause for celebration for our UK Editor, Chris, but on this side of the pond, it’s been over 20 years since Land Rover delivered a properly boxy off-roader.
The new 2020 Defender’s looks may be polarizing, to say the least, but it’s safe to expect this British bulldog will be a genuine mountain goat off-road. For the first time since 1997, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited may finally have some genuine competition. Maybe it’s time for a little CarGurus US vs CarGurus UK rivalry?
Of course, the new Defender can’t steal all the muddy spotlight. We fully expect Ford to pull the cover off the long-awaited and much-anticipated 2021 Bronco this year. It’s been a while since O.J. Simpson sent the last iteration of the Bronco to an early death, and off-roaders and soft-roaders alike have been hankering for a genuine SUV from the blue oval.
While The Juice’s Bronco was a full-size SUV based on the F-Series truck platform, this new one will be a bit smaller, and likely a bit more nimble, as it’s being built on the same platform as the Ranger pickup—sounds perfect for our favorite off-road course.
Steve Halloran, CarGurus US Editor
As one of my colleagues already mentioned, next year will no doubt feature a huge number of announcements regarding electric vehicles (EVs). Automakers have thus far brought more enthusiasm to the electric-car game than the average American driver, but car companies finally seem to be trying to figure out ways to market and build electric vehicles that should appeal not only to tech first adopters and “greenies,” but also to folks who like to drive.
Ford’s debut of the Mustang Mach-E, including prominent mention of its Porsche-beating 0-to-60 times, may mark a relatively new chapter in EV marketing outside the Tesla bubble. Porsche definitely called attention to its 918’s top-notch performance, but that car’s price put it in even rarer air than Tesla’s original Roadster and Model S. The Mach-E, expected to start at less than $45K, should appeal to a considerably more diverse pool of car shoppers than either of Tesla’s original models, and it will no doubt have company in its price range by the end of 2021.
Another relatively new development in the marketing of vehicles capable of running on electricity recently comes from Toyota, which has decided to make the plug-in hybrid version of its massively popular crossover, the RAV4 Prime, the most capable, and most exciting, version of that vehicle available to American buyers. Noting its sub-6-second 0-to-60 time and 302 horsepower in advertisements, Toyota hopes to make up for declining Prius sales with a wide range of hybrids, including sedan models that will face a narrowing pool of American competitors as Ford and GM execute their plans to focus more carefully on crossovers and SUVs in the future.
Whether vehicles running on electricity will ever be able to generate the excitement and sales that gasoline-powered automobiles have enjoyed in their first century remains to be seen, but we look forward to seeing new ads and approaches, as well as more exciting vehicles, next year.

2019 Chevrolet Suburban Redesign, Specs
2019 Chevrolet Suburban Release
2019 Chevrolet Suburban
2019 Chevrolet suburban
2019 Chevrolet Suburban Specs, Review – The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban is likely to be the model of the latest generation of the current generation. These are the latest reports on one of the most iconic Chevrolet models. This long distance and long wheelbase SUV has been around for more than eight decades.
The original model appeared in the 1930s, while the current model has been present since 2013. The eleventh generation came with many novelties, but if you take into account the usual production cycle of the model, the next generation could become the 2020 model.
So, the 2019 Suburban probably will not have major changes. It will continue with a familiar design, that includes the same style, interior, motors, etc. However, there is the possibility of seeing a new 10-speed automatic transmission standard for all settings. In addition to the transmission, we could see many other new features, such as the new infotainment system and some new exterior and interior colors. Expect to see it by the end of 2018.

2019 Chevrolet Suburban Redesign
As already mentioned, the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban will continue without any major changes. The famous SUV will continue to mount on the extended version of GM’s GM2 K2 platform. This platform is also used for GMC Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade. These three models share approximately the same mechanical characteristics. Also, a relationship with Yukon XL is much closer. Each of these two models has its own frontal aspect, but from the A-pillars to the back, everything is practically the same. As we mentioned, the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban will come with some small updates.
2019 Chevrolet suburban Interior
However, the basic design will remain the same. No changes in style are expected, but we could see new exterior colors in the offer. The same will happen inside. We could see some new color schemes, but the rest of the cabin will remain the same.
2019 Chevrolet Suburban Interior
Finally, there is a Premier molding, which provides 20-inch wheels, xenon headlights, adaptive magnetic transmission control suspension, ventilated front seats, the navigation system, electrically adjustable front seats, cargo carpets and more. wireless charging, 10 speakers, premium Bose surround sound system and more. In addition, there is a total package group available as an option and a separate function in the power supply for each level of equipment.
With its lack of visual change, we do not expect anything new in its standard equipment list. If this is true, look forward to continuing with your standard 18-inch alloy wheels, eight-passenger seats, automatic windshield wipers, three-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 115-volt power outlet, touchscreen. 8 inches, six-speaker audio system and more.
Integrated two-piece grille, body color bumpers, LED daytime running lights, halogen or xenon front and LED taillights. Although there are ten exterior colors and three interior colors, we plan to offer two new variants. The cabin is luxurious: the leather seats; telescopic leather steering wheel; three-zone automatic air conditioner; 8-inch touchscreen.
2019 Chevrolet Suburban Engine Performance
The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban will continue with the same powertrain. There is a 5.3-liter V8 family unit that offers approximately 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Until now, this engine was generally available with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but several reports suggest that the new 10-speed gearbox will become a standard feature at all trim levels. With so much power and torque, it’s no wonder that this big, heavy SUV moves so fast. It takes approximately 7.2 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. Braking is also at a high level, around 131 feet from 60 to 0. When it comes to off-road features, an extra-long wheelbase is an obvious limit for some better features. The average fuel economy is around 15 mpg in the city and 22 on a highway.
2019 Chevrolet Suburban release date and price
The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban is expected to arrive somewhere in the third quarter of next year. We do not expect changes in prices. Therefore, the basic models will be around $ 51,000, while the best-equipped versions could reach $ 70,000.

The Most Popular Automobile Stories of 2018
As far as total interest goes, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado by far crushed the completion to take top honors in this year’s popularity contest, while the next two spots were claimed by SUVs, specifically Toyota’s all-new RAV4 and the upcoming 2020 Cadillac Escalade. Trucks pop up on the rest of the list, too, but the AMG GT sedan and Corvette ZR1 are present and accounted for. Scroll to see what your fellow readers were most interested in this year, and follow the links to see the complete stories.
1. 12 Cool Things About the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado
“The two-inch factory lift kit wasn’t always a no-brainer. But then Chevrolet considered the amount of business the aftermarket draws through sales of such setups. Engineers initially chuckled at the idea but soon designed the Silverado’s frame, suspension, and half-shaft angles to accommodate the kit. Chevy expects to sell loads of trucks equipped with it.”—Mac Morrison
2. Seven Things To Know About the 2019 Toyota RAV4
“Though the new RAV4 is about the same size as the old one, it now rides on the Toyota New Global Architecture that underpins the Camry. The size doesn’t change much, but the proportions do, and that is a major contributor to the RAV4’s radical new look.”—Aaron Gold
3. 2020 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV: What to Expect
The ’20 Escalade represents Cadillac’s best opportunity to finally raise its leather and fabric quality, switchgear, and fit and finish to Mercedes-Benz/BMW/Audi levels. Expect Cadillac to offer Super Cruise Level 2 (or higher, depending on speed of development) semi-autonomy.
4. 2019 New and Future Cars: Chevrolet
It’s becoming clearer now how Chevrolet will be able to offer a double-overhead-cam V-8 engine option for its tradition-defying, all-new mid-engine Corvette, code-named Y2: It appears to be the old economies of scale equation.
5. 755-Horsepower 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 is the Fastest, Most Powerful Vette Ever
“It’s the return of the King Kong Corvette, a supercharged superstar with 755 horsepower. It’s the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1–the fastest, most powerful production Vette to ever scorch the pavement.”—Mike Floyd
6. 2019 Ram 1500 Arrives in Motown
“Perhaps most striking in the new design is the ’19 Ram 1500’s organic, “fuselage”-style side surfacing, recalling Chrysler design of the early ‘60s and again, the early ‘70s. Designers also raised the top of the bed rails by 1-1/2-inches, says Ram’s design chief, Joe Dehner.”—Todd Lassa
7. 2018 Shelby Raptor Can Be Yours for $117,460
“Need a better Ford F-150 Raptor with more horsepower and torque? The 2018 Shelby Raptor package adds an additional 75 horses and 100 lb ft of torque—that’s up to 525 horsepower and 610 lb ft of torque.”—E.T.
8. 2019 Ford Ranger Arrives in Dealerships Early Next Year
“It looks very much like the same Ford Ranger that has been on-sale in Europe and other foreign markets in that interim. In a reversal of the Mulally-era One Ford touted for the ’12 Focus, however, the Blue Oval truck people say the Ranger has been heavily redesigned for the U.S. market, and has its own, unique box-frame construction.”—T.L.
9. 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe Arrives at Last
“For the first time, we transferred the AMG design DNA to a four-door model,” says Mercedes-AMG chief designer Volker Hellwig, proudly pointing at an early concept. “Characteristic elements include multibeam headlamps, a shark nose front end, a so-called jet wing front apron, slimline LED taillights and low-drag wheels. Completely new is the tapered greenhouse which sports a sleek and low roofline and large rear doors for easy entry and exit.”—Georg Kacher
10. Seven Things You Need to Know About the 2019 Ram 1500
“The fifth-generation Ram is on track to possibly win over more than a few Ford and Chevy fans. For starters, it’s available in six trim levels—Limited, Longhorn, Laramie, Rebel, Big Horn, and Tradesman. Plus, there are 12 paint colors and 15 new wheel designs to choose from. Aside from being built it Sterling Heights, Michigan—here are seven more reasons why you should give the Ram a closer look.”—E.T.

Motor City luxury heads to New York auto show
NORA NAUGHTON | The Detroit News
5:02 a.m. GMT+1 Mar. 26, 2018
SMS
Facebook
Twitter The auto industry’s luxury segment may be struggling to set itself apart as the average car gets more infused with technology and high-end interiors. But two of Detroit’s glitziest brands are hoping to make a splash this week in Manhattan. General Motors Co.’s Cadillac and Ford Motor Co.’s Lincoln brands are bringing all-new — and much-needed — SUVs to the New York International Auto Show as the Motor City luxe brands try to catch up with consumer demand for bigger, flashier whips. “There’s been this unraveling of the traditional luxury sedan as a status symbol, and it’s been replaced by SUVs,” said Karl Brauer, an automotive analyst for Kelley Blue Book. That’s been a problem for Cadillac, in particular, which invested heavily in its sedan lineup just as the car market continued to shrink. The brand is hoping to remedy that with an onslaught of new SUV products through the end of 2020, starting at the New York auto show with the reveal of its XT4, Cadillac’s first-ever compact SUV. It will join the larger XT5 and the Escalade. Cadillac saw sales slip 8 percent in 2017, with only the CT6 sedan and XT5 posting an increase in deliveries. The brand saw some improvements through the first two months of 2018, up 5.3 percent on gains for the ATS and Escalade. Lincoln has more to offer in the way of SUVs — four including the red-hot Navigator that debuted at the New York auto show last year — but the MKC, MKT and MKX are struggling. Lincoln says some of that skidding is part of a wind-down of the alphanumeric names. The MKX will become the Nautilus later this year, and the MKC is expected to follow, though a new name hasn’t been announced yet. The Ford luxury brand also will freshen its SUV lineup with the revival of the Aviator in New York. The newest Lincoln SUV is expected to fit between the Nautilus and the full-size Navigator. And the New York Auto Show’s reputation as a luxury show means the Aviator and XT4 will be debuting among a horde of high-end vehicles, with new products or trim levels expected from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and even Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s Italian Maserati brand. Cadillac and Lincoln both lost ground in the market in 2017, while Audi, Jaguar and Land Rover gained market share. But there is no magic formula as the crowded luxury SUV market only accounts for a small sliver of the SUV segment. Mercedes and BMW — with lineups that heavily favor SUVs and crossovers — also lost market share in 2017. “Both Lincoln and Cadillac will have the difficult task of generating real interest in a new vehicle in what has become a very crowded luxury SUV market,” Brauer said. “That’s the danger of being late to the game. What they need to do now is not just show new SUVs, but product that is dynamic and stands out.” Lincoln achieved that last year with the Navigator, a show-stealer that’s still winning best-in-show awards and is credited with driving a $4,600 increase in average transaction prices for the brand. The Nav is going for an average $84,849 through the first two months of the year, according to Cox Automotive. For perspective, the Continental is the closest behind with an average price of $54,500. At the same time Detroit’s luxury brands try to freshen their lineup, Cadillac and Lincoln also face reputation problems. “I often hear that Cadillac is a brand for retirees or old people,” Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac’s president, said at the Automotive News World Congress in January. “Of course it annoys the blazes out of me.” Under de Nysschen, Cadillac has sought to reach a younger, more refined audience, distancing itself from GM’s mainstream brands when it opened a new headquarters in SoHo. Cadillac also offers the Tesla-fighter SuperCruise hands-free driving technology on the CT6. At least some of this repositioning appears to be working: de Nysschen said at Automotive News World Congress that roughly 50 percent of Cadillac customers are now Gen X and Millennial buyers. Lincoln, on the other hand, is in the middle of its second re-branding in 11 years. It is dropping its confusing alphanumeric vehicle names, a convention for European luxury companies, in favor of nautical names like the Nautilus, formerly the MKX, which debuted at the Los Angeles auto show in November. Embracing Lincoln’s American identity could bode well for the brand overseas, the brand’s leaders and analysts say. The Chinese market in particular has shown an affinity for U.S. luxury brands. GM’s Cadillac and Buick brands had an especially good year in China in 2017, with Cadillac posting a 50.8 percent year-over-year sales increase with roughly 175,500 deliveries. Lincoln sold 54,124 vehicles in China in 2017, up 66 percent. “U.S. automakers have spent and wasted far too much time and resources trying to imitate luxury European automakers,” Brauer said. “I think it’s good that Lincoln is going for a more traditional American look and feel. Domestic brands, particularly in China, could do well by doing more chest-beating to say ‘we are an American brand.’”

Motor News: 2019 North American International Auto Show Recap
The North American International Auto Show is always a special event for us here at Motorweek. But this year’s Detroit festivities are even more noteworthy, as this is the last time the show will be held in usually frigid January. It migrates to a warmer June time frame next year. But, before we get all nostalgic, let's see all of 20-19’s big reveals!
While most European automakers didn’t make the Detroit stop this year. The majority of domestic and import brands arrived at the 2019 North American International Auto Show with an extensive stream of all-new models that we just can’t wait to drive.
As always, the North American Car of the Year awards kicked things off. This year’s NACTOY honors going to the Genesis G70 for Car of the Year…
…the Ram 1500 for Truck of the Year…
…and the Hyundai Kona, including the Kona EV, for Utility of the Year.
Congratulations to all!
It was the Ford stand that really get our adrenaline pumping. As if descending from performance-car heaven…the all-new Mustang Shelby GT500. 700+ horsepower from a 5.2–liter supercharged V8 mated to a 7-speed DCT; no manual for now! While that may be heresy, with a 0-60 in the low 3s, this Shelby is going to kick some serious butt on the drag strip, along with road course dominance thanks to a magnetic suspension, loads of rubber crammed into the wheel wells, and Brembo brakes. Carroll Shelby would definitely approve!
Ford had one for the family street scene as well…the all-new, three-row, 2020 Explorer SUV. Sharing the Lincoln Aviator’s chassis, it returns to a rear-wheel-drive architecture for better towing, with all-wheel-drive an option.
Targeting a wide swath of buyers, the all-new Explorer will be available as a Hybrid, as a high-performance 400 horsepower ST, and even as a Police Interceptor Utility.
Crosstown rival General Motors focused on providing families with three row crossover luxury in the new Cadillac XT6. It’s a more car-like option to the still truck framed Escalade. Sharing basics with the GMC Acadia, a 310-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 and 9-speed automatic transmission make up the XT6 powertrain.
The big news at Fiat-Chrysler, was big trucks, with an all-new Ram Heavy Duty. Yes, it does have 1,000 lb-ft. of torque, with its available high output 6.7-liter I6 Cummins Diesel; and double-yes, it will out-power, out-tow…35,000 pounds worth…and out-haul all other pickups. The Ram Power Wagon returns too, here with an updated 6.4-liter HEMI gas V8.
Debuts from imports start with a car…the new Volkswagen Passat. Most of its Tennessee-built underpinnings and drive gear remain the same, but the sleek new sheet-metal is a major departure, and we like where it’s headed.
Perhaps even bigger news, was Volkswagen’s announcement of major expansion of the Chattanooga plant for upcoming EV models. With VW’s new Ford technology alliance, we might even see some future Blue Oval EVs made there.
Toyota officially unveiled the worst kept secret in car-dom, the all-new Supra, the first production car developed by Toyota’s GAZOO racing team. There’s still an inline-6 under the hood, only now it comes from Bavaria, as Supra shares a lot of its engineering with the BMW Z4. That turbocharged mill cranks 335-horsepower, and will shuttle lucky owners to 60 in just over four seconds.
Toyota sprinkled some of their performance dust on the Lexus RC F as well, with a new Track Edition; boasting 472-horsepower from its 5.0-liter V8 plus speed focused aero tricks and weight removal galore.
Subaru’s STI tuner arm rewarded their most ardent fans with the special edition STI S209, the first S-line performance car sold in America. It sports road-rally style chassis updates, a wide-body design, and a 341-horsepower 2.5-liter turbo boxer engine.
Yes, the biggest Kia ever, the 3-row Telluride crossover utility is finally a reality. Sharing chassis with the Hyundai Palisade, it’s brawny body has room for 8, with plenty of V6 power to haul them, and their gear, to whatever active lifestyle stuff they get into.
Speaking of cousin Hyundai, they debuted the Elantra GT N Line. It launches a new series that fits between their full N brand performance cars, and everyday models. Confusion to follow.
This year’s Detroit show included more eye-popping concepts than usual. After showing a longer range Leaf e+ at CES, this Nissan IMs EV concept may predict a sleek electric sport sedan joining the mix.
Nissan’s Infiniti could be the next brand to unleash a full-EV SUV; and that could be just the beginning. This concept, the QX Inspiration, rides on an all-new platform that will be the basis for a wide range of electrified offerings.
Technically, this Lexus LC Convertible is a concept, but it looks ready for prime time to us. It also looks like a no-brainer; and would easily be the car to be seen in on the streets in Southern California and South Florida.
We’re told this crossover concept is a clear sign of what’s coming as GM transitions Cadillac to their lead electric vehicle brand. Now, we didn’t actually see the vehicle, just these pictures, with no specific details, but Cadillac says stay tuned!
We’ve seen this diesel-powered Mahindra Roxor Jeep-lookalike for some time now; and as you might imagine, FCA has issues with the design, and has taken the brand to court. But for now, it’s off-highway use only for this little runabout; making it the perfect mashup of an old CJ and a new Side-by-Side.
And it wouldn’t be a proper Detroit show without a Chinese car company saying U.S. sales are imminent. This year we have a 5-time return player as GAC Motor was back with its ENTRANZE EV concept, as well as production previews of several models including the GM6 minivan and the GS5 compact SUV.
And that’s it for the 2019 North American International Auto Show. We’ll be back in summer of 2020 for more from Motown!
