This Month In History - October Part 1

This month there’s so many pop culture landmark anniversaries to the point where I needed to do a 3 parts. Here is part 1 of what I celebrate this month in history:

Oct. 1, 1984: The Unforgettable Fire released

In Oct. 1984, the 4th album by U2 was released. While this might not feel as epic as The Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby (the 2 albums that are often looked as U2's all-time best), this is a very ambitious breakthrough album for the band. It was also the beginning of their longtime obsessions with America, i.e. songs about MLK, Elvis Presley and 4th of July. An excellent album that still holds up. Happy 40th TUF!

Oct. 1, 1999: Three Kings opens

In Oct. 1999, David O. Russell's Operation Desert Storm epic was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2014. Happy 25th 3K!

Oct. 2, 1959: The Twilight Zone premieres

In Oct. 1959, possibly the greatest genre anthology series in TV history premiered on CBS. From the distinct mind of Rod Serling, each episode was like it's own mini-movie with something to say about society. I discovered it in syndicated re-runs on channel 38 when I was a kid. My older sister and I stayed up and watched their marathon one Summer. The series has been rebooted and remade many times over the years, but those original 5 seasons are truly among the best works in TV ever. Last year I got the blu-ray of the original series and I've slowly been making my way through the entire series and being reminded just how great it was. Happy 65th TTZ!

Oct. 2, 1974: The Taking of Pelham 123 opens

In Oct. 1974, one of the great 70s crime movies was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2019. Happy 50th TTOP123!

Oct. 4, 2019: Ode to Joy released

In October 2019, Wilco's 11th album was released. I got to review this and I've been lucky enough to review several Wilco releases since then. It was a serious return to form for the band and I'd put it up there with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot as one of their best albums. I named it my #2 Album of 2019 and included it in my Best Albums of the 2010s. Happy 5 OTJ!

Oct. 5, 1979: Reggatta de Blanc released

In Oct. 1979, the 2nd album by The Police was released. Talk about not dropping the ball or falling into a sophomore slump! So many great songs on this, notably "Message in a Bottle", "Walking on the Moon" and "Bring on the Night". Best of all, all three members got a chance to shine with songs they wrote not, just Sting. Happy 45th RDB!

Oct. 6, 1989: Drugstore Cowboy opens

In Oct. 1989, Gus Van San’t best movie was released, and that is saying something. Here is my piece I wrote in 2014. Happy 35th Drugstore Cowboy!

Oct. 8, 1999: The Limey opens

In Oct. 1999, one of Steve Soderbergh's most underrated movies was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2019. Happy 25th TL!

The Twilight Zone: An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge Season 5 Episode 22 1964

I feel like I've been inspired heavily by The Twilight Zone and The Choose Your Own Adventure Series.

I thought it be cool for this to be in two parts from both Shayne and Court's perspective.

Alright, here goes...

It is Halloween Night and Shourtney are playing with a Ouija board and everything seems to be going according to schedule. Shayne being ever the skeptic, while Courtney is on an adrenaline rush from the whole experience, that is until it is time for them both to go to sleep.

When they awake they are both in for quite the shocker, this is where it gets trippy.

Shayne - Wakes up back in 2019! He looks exactly the same as he did back then, back in his old apartment, but he is Shayne from the present, and worst of all Courts not there.

Courtney - Wakes up in 2024, think everything is ok? Not so fast, this isn't our regular Court, this is them from 2019! Luckily they know just the person to turn to in times of crisis, all they need to do is just turn over on their side and he's right there... WHAT?

How did this happen?

Why did this happen?

Why is Shayne getting a text about shooting The Goldbergs?

Why is there a diamond ring on Court's left hand?

Overall, I want to keep this grounded and just be a wild escapade of the dream world for both of them, heavily influenced by their past up until present day. I wouldn't mind a supernatural aspect to it, but I just feel like that can get overblown too much, ya know?

I'm still deciding if I want it to be a Ouija board or a scary movie that incites all this chaos, and if I want it to be 2018 or 2019 for Shayne depending on whenever their relationship started.

I decided to have current day Shayne go back in time because I believe Court fell first and he fell harder. Given what Court said about being down bad for their coworker while doing Chanse's drag makeup.

Shayne gets to go back in time with all the knowledge of the present, while this version of Court gets to live out their fantasy which we all know becomes reality. Without having to deal with the mental gymnastics and nerves.

Now I wish I could write this, but unfortunately I can't write to save my life unless it is a term paper for college.

So, I am offering this idea for any creative writers out there who want to take a crack at it!

Obviously there is no pressure or anything like that. I just have been sitting on this idea for some time and I thought it would be cool to put it out there and see what comes of it.

If it were up to me and I could actually put pen to paper I'd love to make a couple of chapters. Either with or without the supernatural element, regardless it is open to interpretation!

Thanks for letting me showcase my idea, trying to be better about not letting my nerves get the better of me! They are just random ideas at the end of the day that I've jotted down here and there.

I’m not saying this just to say it, but I genuinely enjoy this idea. I do think a scary movie would be a better cause of this bc it’s more shourtney coded than an ouija board. They both love movies (idk how they feel about horror specifically) but I can see them watching that more. I also feel like 2018 might be the move bc we don’t know when they started dating, but I’m willing to bet it wasn’t 2018. So it would make more sense, imo, of it being Courtney’s dream and not reality and her not being there with Shayne. But other than that, I could see this being a really great concept. Like I said, I don’t read fics but I would give this one a chance. And I would say to try writing it yourself, I feel if you really put your mind to it then you can create this if you really want to. But if you can’t, someone please get to writing this ASAP !

Okay, for funsies, I'm trash watching 2Moons 2, and I noticed that Wayo, one of the mains, is PINK. I can't remember how he was color coded in the original 2Moons (and I refuse to rewatch it because it was terrible, lmao), but am I right in thinking most BL boys are not pink? And I got to wondering, do you know of any other BL mains that are pink? (Side note: the only pink main I could think of was from Gap, and that's a GL)

I don't remember 2 Moons 2.

Much like SOTUS and 2gether, I know I watched it when it was happening, but I don't remember a single thing about it, so every time one of the guys from it pops up on my screen, I have a whole Twilight Zone moment where my brain freaks out because I know I know that guy but I don't know why I know him.

And what is even stranger is it took three years of silence for any of those guys to pop up! Nine is in China. Ben just acted in Be Mine Superstar. Pavel is now in Pit Babe. Dome was in the Luminous Solution. Din was in My Secret Love. Joong, my most beloved, moved to GMMTV. But there were THREE YEARS with nothing from these boys since they were trying to get out of their contract. That only fueled my amnesia. My mind decided I would never see them again and chunked that information.

I'm sure I trashed the information because none of the actors in 2019's 2 Moons 2 were the same as 2017's 2 Moons, and 2 Moons itself, like you stated, WAS A MESS, but . . .

Wayo was a Pink Person!

My notes and pictures tell me so, much like they remind me that we are not seeing Pavel's neck tattoo in Pit Babe 😢 which is strange since neck sniffing is a thing in that show.

To answer your question: It's rare for a main character to be pink regardless if it's a BL or a GL, ONLY because most Pink People come from Thailand, and Thailand prefers the Blue Boy x Red Rascal pairing. Korea enjoys Green Guy x Blue Boy, while Japan likes Happy Human x Brooding Boy (light versus dark). Taiwan is just wild. So it would be more likely to see them in a supportive role or as a side.

However, every country understands that pink = 💕love💕 so we will see the characters in pink once they start falling in love.

So pink milk= you're watching a queer love story.
