Blightgate Custom Content List
Below is a list of custom content used in the Blightgate neighbourhood. I tested it without the downloaded stuff and you can probably get away without downloading the skins, hair and eyes since it will replace them with defaults and it also removes some of the cars and replaces some of them with Maxis cars but I would recommend downloading all the lots mentioned from modthesims especially the occupied ones and community lots, as they look very odd without some of the necessary custom content.

Top 5 Worst McMansions in Space
Howdy folks! If you thought suburban sprawl couldn’t extend any further, encroaching and devouring everything in its path, you’re right! That’s why, in co-operation with a variety of shady Silicon Valley start-ups, property speculators and developers are now taking bold new steps in order to expand the iron grip of real estate by entering... the space market! The offerings have been slim, so far, but remain ever promising for readers of this website. Let’s take a look!
#5: 6341 Crater Drive, Moon
Tumblr media
Hoping to cash in on a moon real estate boom, this lovely 6000 square foot “ranch” is located a mere 30 miles from the famous “Moon Landing” site. Tall ceilings abound, convenient for those who have to live in low gravity. Also includes granite countertops, and “bathrooms” to remind you of Earth’s luxuries. Only $500,000,000, HOA not included.
#4: 443 Black Hole Lane, Jellyfish Nebula
Tumblr media
Another sprawling rancher, this time drifting endlessly into the abyss somewhere near the Jellyfish Nebula. At 6349 square feet, there’s plenty of space for you to ponder the loneliness that is the universe and the ever-present fear that you may never see your family on Earth again. Before you change your mind, wait til you see that master bath, folks!
#3: 553 Discovery Place, Mars
Tumblr media
This amazing 6 bedroom 11 bath Space Chateau is a great investment opportunity for those smart investors that want to cash in on the Mars craze and stay ahead of Elon Musk! Designed to blend into the harsh Mars terrain, this 7,530 sqft house is perfect for the land grabbing space colonizing enthusiast and faux royalty alike.
#2: 11 Apollo Court, Moon
Tumblr media
Did seeing Apollo 11 in IMAX get your moon juices flowing? Well do I have a house for you! If you like a good view, forget the hilly expanses of California, or the breezy seaside vibes of Florida - you can see it all from this elegant 7845 sqft Moon Estate featuring no-maintenance plastic landscaping, a 3-rover garage, and large, diverse windows allowing for nonstop views. This house is great for entertaining, but if someone knocks on your door DO NOT ANSWER IT and REPORT TO THE NEAREST AUTHORITIES.
#1: 733 Starry Boulevard, Carina Nebula
Tumblr media
This incredible 6 bedroom, 8 bathroom home features large, sweeping views of the ever-expanding universe in which all of us are unfortunately trapped like puny flies in a dish of olive oil. If you like elegant stonework, tall ceilings, and the tranquil silence afforded by the vacuum of space, than this Tudor European Estate complete with satellite is perfect for your discerning tastes.

FORD GALAXY: A MULTIPURPOSE VEHICLE, TOP SUV'S IN MARKET
Ford Galaxy is a multi-purpose vehicle first launched in 1995 by Ford Motors Company. Galaxy has been through three generations since the launch. Galaxy has become one of the most top-selling SUVs in the market. The reason for Galaxy’s universality is because of its running cost, a lot of passenger space, and seating flexibility. It is one of the largest MPV with a lot of space. Ford Galaxy is a seven-seater vehicle with excellent practicality. The rear two seats can be folded electrically to give you more room. It’s a reasonable MPV to drive with great concentration and comfort. It’s available with a good range of diesel engines with different outputs and one petrol engine of 1.5 Eco Boost. There is also an option for a four-wheel drive. Galaxy is a bit larger than its rivals of the same class.
Tumblr media
FORD GALAXY FEATURES
Ford Galaxy gives you a lot of space. You can fold central seats with the push of a button and the rear seats can also fold down electrically which makes them more spacious and practical. Ford Galaxy is available in Zetec, Titanium, and Titanium X trims. Its Zetec trim comes with an SYNC3 infotainment system, 17-inch alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, electrically folding mirrors, and some other features which can be categorized as standard.
EXTERIOR
Ford Galaxy has a more interesting look than most MPVs out there. It is equipped with a wide grille, with a flat rear, higher roofline. Titanium trim has daytime running LED lights and this trim is a bit more silver in look. Galaxy’s rear has black-outlined large tail-lights that blends with the rear window.
INTERIOR
The interior of the Ford Galaxy is well-ordered and clean. It’s a seven-seater with a lot of room. The driving position is not so perfect but it is good enough for a good driving experience. The driver’s seat is comfortable. There is an eight-way powered adjustment in the Titanium trim. The dashboard of the Galaxy is logical and quite easy to workaround. The standard infotainment system is not that interesting in the Galaxy because of low resolution and graphics are a bit old-fashioned. But Ford’s SYNC3 system is an improvement compared to the standard display.  Galaxy’s interior quality is great. The surface is finished with soft-touch plastic which gives a robust feeling. The interior is much nicer than the competitors of the same class, such as Vauxhall Combo Life and Volkswagen Sharan. Titanium models come with Ford’s satellite navigation system and an optional digital display can also be fitted which can be controlled by the steering wheel. Ford Galaxy is more family-focused than Ford’s own S-Max.
 BOOT CAPACITY
Ford Galaxy has a huge boot. There is 300-litres of space with the rear seats in place, which is quite impressive. It is much more space than its competitor Mercedes V-class. After folding the rear seats, you get 1,206-litres of space, and you’ll get 2,339-litres of space after folding the central seats. Galaxy gives you more practicality than most of the other vehicles of the same class.
 DRIVING AND HANDLING
Ford Galaxy comes with great choices of engines. 2.0-litre EcoBlue with a horsepower of 148bhp is a popular engine with enough flexibility for both motorway cruising and city driving. If you’re looking for more power, you can go for 2.0-litre EcoBlue with a horsepower of 187bhp. Galaxy comes with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, eight-speed automatic transmission is optional. The steering wheel is well-balanced and has a superb grip, which makes driving more comfortable. The newer models of Galaxy can cruise without making noise on the city roads as well as on the motorway. Ford Galaxy gives a surprisingly awesome drive for a car of such size. People usually buy MPV for practicality rather than driving and performance. Ford made the Galaxy for both, family-focused with great driving experience. Although Galaxy offers great handling it can feel harsh on the bumps.  Visit https://goodautodeals.com/
PRICING
The price range of the Ford Galaxy starts at £27,940, which is cheaper than the S-Max. The mid-range Titanium version starts at £30,390 for the petrol engine. The price is £34,125 for a diesel engine with 180 horsepower. The Titanium version starts at £34,885 which goes up to £38,590.
RUNNING COSTS
For such a huge car, the fuel economy of the Ford Galaxy is reasonable. But it’s not a match for its rival like Citroen Grand C4 Space Tourer, which gives better fuel economy. The 2.0 TDCi with a horsepower of 119bhp with manual transmission has a fuel economy of 52.3mpg and CO2 emission of 135g/km. This figure is the same for Zetec and Titanium trims. With the automatic transmission, you’ll get a fuel economy of 49.6mpg and CO2 emission of 140g/km. The engines of the Ford Galaxy are economically great, but it’s better if you opt for diesel engines. Ford Galaxy’s models from 2019 and onwards are powered by the EcoBlue 2.0-liter diesel engine, with the horsepower of either 148bhp and 187bhp. The road tax for the Ford Galaxy will be £150 per year.
 FORD FUSION: SAFETY FEATURES
Ford Galaxy is equipped with many safety features. There is a panoramic camera on the Galaxy’s front, which gives a split-screen display so you can monitor the traffic on the sides. Parking the car is much easier. The sensors of the Active Park assist can locate a spot for you, steering you into the spot automatically. Galaxy is equipped with Intelligent Speed Limiter which monitors your speed and keeps you within the speed limit. Active lane assist and adaptive cruise control are optional. It is also equipped with an auto-braking system and automatic LED headlights.
THOUGHTS OF GOODAUTODEALS
Few cars offer seven seats including SUVs such as Land Rover Discovery, but Galaxy gives you much more space. Seven adults can travel in Ford Galaxy easily and comfortably. You can fold the seats if you need extra space for the luggage. Build quality is another feature of interest in the Ford Galaxy. The Interior of the Galaxy is well-ordered and feels pleasant. Although Ford Galaxy is not one of the top MPVs out there it is very practical, affordable, and the driving is also great and comfortable.  Read more..

Land Rover Discovery Sport 2020 long-term review
Why we're running it:To see if the heavily updated SUV in mild-hybrid diesel form is a worthy contender in this segmentWelcoming the Discovery Sport to the fleet - 28 October 2020Once upon a time, you would get one mid-life model update in a car's five-to seven-year life, and that would be it. But the race to compete with rivals technologically has changed the landscape so much that frequent, smaller updates can be found on cars most years these days. That's why thisDiscovery Sportvariant is no longer available, already surpassed by a ‘model year 2021 update' announced in August. Fear not: the fundamentals of this Disco Sport remain utterly relevant, introduced in a significant mid-life refresh last year. So significant that it included a totally new platform called Premium Transverse Architecture – the same used by theRange Rover Evoque– to accommodate the inevitable electrified engines plus, of course, new technology and a new infotainment system. It's those latter elements that have been further addressed in the MY21 update. The Discovery Sport you can buy today gets the Pivi Pro infotainment system first seen onthe new Defender , plus wireless software updates, AD: MK808 Review. a 3D surround camera and the option of cabin air filtration. So what exactly is our Discovery Sport? It's the D180 AWD, powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder 178bhp turbo diesel with 48V mild-hybrid assistance, promising WLTP fuel economy of 37.2-39.6mpg, CO2 emissions of 187-199g/km and a 0-60mph time of 9.4sec.Can the overhauled Discovery Sport revitalise Land Rover's fortunes? It's the top-spec HSE car, starting from £46,800, although ours has a generous options list adding more than seven grand to that price. More on that later. If you wanted the closest equivalent available today, it would be the D200 AWD HSE, whose starting price is just £15 more. It uses the same mild-hybrid diesel set-up but dialled up to 201bhp and hitting 60mph in 8.1sec.The new car's fuel economy is 39.0-42.4mpg and CO2 emissions are 175-190g/km. All of these figures are slightly worse if you opt for the 5+2 seat configuration – a feature that is standard on all Disco Sport variants other than the new plug-in hybrid. The range-topping diesel D200 sits above the D165, while there are four petrol-powered engines: P200, P250, P290 and P300e. All diesel and petrol units now use a 48V mild-hybrid system, other thanthe plugin hybrid P300e , which claims an electric-only range of 38 miles, CO2 emissions of 36g/km and 175.5mpg.Land Roverkeeps its cards close to its chest, so we don't know which engine or trim is most popular, but we do know that the Discovery Sport is the brand's top priority as its number-one global seller, with 83,574 units sold in 2019. (For comparison, 204,965 examples ofthe Volvo XC60 , its rival SUV, were sold over the same period.)HSE trim has all the trappings that you would expect. Highlights include heated electric seats, 20in wheels, a powered tailgate, sat-nav and a 4G wi-fi hotspot. The Namib Orange paint is a £970 option, while the contrasting black roof – a styling necessity to these eyes – is £610. Various roof rail elements come to just under £900 and there's the occasional superfluous option: two USB ports in row two and one in row three for £100. Just chuck 'em in as standard on HSE, eh, Land Rover? The priciest option on our Disco Sport is the £2160 Driver Assist Pack, which includes a 360deg camera, adaptive cruise control with steering assistance, a 360deg parking aid and wade sensing, which can collectively be as helpful on the streets of London as during serious off-roading. For those who like the sound of that pack, good news: it's now standard on HSE trim, according to the configurator.Step into the Disco Sport for the first time and it no longer feels a world away from its rivals in terms of interior quality – quite the opposite – and that's before any further MY21 updates. It also has the advantage of being less bland than its German, black-interior-favouring rivals and retains a distinctive Land Rover feel.Initial impressions are that it's strikingly better to drive than its predecessor: nicely da...

Best Cars of the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show
This is the year the future arrived at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Yes, there are plenty of interesting and significant production debuts – Bentley’s new Continental GT, BMW’s new X3 and M5, Porsche’s new Cayenne, Hyundai’s small Kona crossover, and Ferrari’s Portofino, to name a few – but the buzz is all about hybrids and electric vehicles and autonomous driving. This is the Frankfurt show where Mercedes-Benz, the company that – with some justification – claims to have invented the automobile – announced it would soon be building an electric-powered one that didn’t have a steering wheel or pedals. Loud, colorful, and with the swaggering might of the German auto industry on full display, Frankfurt 2017 is indeed an auto show to remember. Here are our picks of the best from the show floor. Star of the Show: Mercedes-AMG Project ONE There are faster hypercars. There are sexier hypercars. But there has never been a road-legal hypercar with an actual Formula 1 powertrain. Only Daimler, rich, powerful, and at the top of its game, could have the audacity – and the technical knowhow – to create a car like the Mercedes-AMG Project ONE. It shares most of its powerpack with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas grand prix racer that took Lewis Hamilton to victory in the 2015 Formula 1 World Driver’s Championship, and with more than 1000 hp on tap, it will be quicker than a Bugatti Chiron to 124 mph. The mere fact this car exists at all, complete with an airbag in the F1-style steering wheel and an air-conditioned cockpit, is cause for celebration. It’s the car at Frankfurt everyone wanted to see. –Angus MacKenzie Star of the Show: Kia ProCeed Concept As a child of the ‘60s, I’m exceptionally drawn to this car’s true four-door pillar-less door glass design. Sure, there is zero hope of providing adequate side-impact protection this way, but c’mon! Concept cars are supposed to be flights of fancy. I also love all the raw innovation in this design, from the “brightwork” surrounding the side glass that indeed glows with a remarkably uniform white LED light, to the seat fabric, which consists of 100 square meters (!) of black fabric that ends up looking a bit like shag carpet or something. This car is yet another milepost along the Korean automaker’s road from a “fast follower” copying designs and trends, to trend setter. We should be so lucky as to get anything nearing this car’s coolness on American roads in the near future. –Frank Markus Star of the Show: Kia ProCeed Concept The Kia Proceed is liquid lust in hot red. The four-door wagon concept looks like it is racing down the street even as it sits stationary on the stand. Unfortunately it will not be in motion on U.S. streets as this concept hints at the next generation of Kia’s Cee’d family for Europe. The look is clean, elegant, with beautiful proportions. The hood actually appears shorter than it is alongside the long body with no B pillar and the sharkfin trim at the C pillar. Inside, a tangle of shaved and unshaved ribbons on the seats: 100 square meters of black fabric in total. –Alisa Priddle Best Gotcha: Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Jaguar says it’s planning a one-make race series for the forthcoming all-electric I-Pace, and to prove the point showed a concept of what the racecar would look like on its Frankfurt show stand. Except the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy isn’t exactly a concept. Keen-eyed showgoers comparing it with the I-Pace concept will notice the race car has different exterior mirrors, different side windows, and slightly different styling around the rear hatch. They’d also notice the creases in the bodywork aren’t quite as sharp as those on the white concept, and that a pair of wipers are nestled at the base of the windshield. Yep, hiding in plain sight on the Jaguar stand is the production version of the swoopy I-Pace. Strip away the rear wing, the side skirts, the race-face front fascia, and the racy wheels and tires, and you’ll see exactly what the twin-motor I-Pace with around 400 hp and an anticipated EPA-rated range of about 220 miles will look like when it launches in the second half of 2018. –Angus MacKenzie Best Production Car: Bentley Continental GT At last, Bentley’s gran turismo gets the extravagant proportions it deserves, courtesy of the new VW Group MSB architecture it shares with Porsche’s Panamera. MSB, which is VW Group’s front-engine, rear and all-wheel-drive architecture, has allowed Bentley design boss Stefan Sielaff and his team to place the front wheels ahead of the engine, giving the new Conti GT the extended dash-to-axle ratio that’s been a hallmark of great British sports and luxury cars since the 1920s. The new Conti GT looks lower, sleeker, and more luxurious than its pug-nosed predecessor, with crisply tailored surfaces. Inside is an interior that ups the Bentley ante for knurled metal, rich leather, and beautifully finished wood, and does it in a thoroughly contemporary manner. –Angus MacKenzie Best Production Car: Land Rover Discovery SVX This is the first Discovery to get Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations treatment. The SUV gets a version of Jaguar Land Rover’s 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine, tweaked to generate 517 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The SUV has an eight-speed automatic transmission and two-range transfer box. Not only will it be quick and powerful on the road, the SVO team gave it more ground clearance to go anywhere. The winch is standard and it will be hand-built at the SVO technical center with some unique body panels once it becomes available in 2018. –Alisa Priddle Best Production Car: Ferrari Portofino I never liked the California’s Nicki Minaj junk-in-the-trunk design, and the fact that this one’s basic hard points have changed so little and yet the overall look has transformed so thoroughly—and looks equally fabulous, hard-top up or down—is a real testament to the design geniuses now employed within Ferrari (not at go-to design house Pininfarina). The fact that its twin-turbo V-8 gets a 39-horse bump to within kissing distance of 600 hp is just icing on the Amaretti Cake. –Frank Markus Best Concept Car: Borgward Isabella concept The gorgeous two-tone coupe, with the darker blue on top and lighter shade below, has lines along the hood and headlights that are reminiscent of the original and stunning Isabella from the 1950s and early ‘60s. But this concept is a statement of new elegance and beauty with its sculpted sides and stylized greenhouse providing a fresh side silhouette with a C pillar that passes over the body. In addition to the wraparound taillights are headlights in an intriguing pattern that makes a yin yang pattern of Nike swooshes. Inside is a three-piece steering wheel that is appealing its simplicity and a touchscreen that cascades down from the center of the dash. Elements of the Isabella could make its way into future sedans from a company that has resurrected the past with this emotional design. –Alisa Priddle Best Concept Car: Honda Urban EV Concept With its clean, simple surfaces, and fenders flared over big wheels at each corner, the Honda Urban EV riffed on classic European hot hatches of the ’70s and ’80s, like the original Volkswagen Golf GTI and Peugeot’s 205 GTI. With a look and feel very much inspired by product design principles rather than styling whimsies, the tiny Honda—it’s four inches shorter than a Fit—is a welcome breath of fresh air from a Japanese automaker whose recent production vehicle designs have tendered to suffer from too much surface entertainment. Honda boss Takahiro Hachigo says the Urban EV previews a brand-new EV platform from the company, and a production version of the car will be on sale in Europe in 2019. –Angus MacKenzie Sketchiest Concept Vehicle: BMW X7 iPerformance Concept Oh dear. This one looks like the design team just stood back and said, “Welp, there’s gonna be no hiding the fact that this is a great big gigantic SUV, so let’s just own its gargantuan-ness.” Every design detail seems to have been chosen to accentuate the vehicle’s vertical bulk, from the disturbingly tall and toothy interpretation of the double-kidney grille to the giant L-shaped fender vents and rear fascia details. The incredibly fine pillars on the greenhouse end up looking insufficient to support the bulk of the body should the truck ever turn turtle. Here’s one we’re eager to see changed substantially on its way to production. –Frank Markus Biggest Head-Scratcher: Mercedes-AMG Project ONE Suspension Inside the spectacular Mercedes exhibit hall—which is arranged just like its museum in Stuttgart, in the round and spiraling down from several stories up—was a naked chassis of the highly anticipated F1-inspired hypercar. But after studying the front and rear suspension for 10 minutes or more, I could not for the life of me work out how the pushrod-actuated spring-damper units worked. That’s because both of them interconnect both pivot points. I look forward to watching an animation of them in action. –Frank Markus Most Innovative Parking Solution: Renault Symbioz Concept This concept takes integration a step further: the car talks to the house and the two become one. The demonstration shows the autonomous car with an interior where passengers face each other. Once at home, the car raises on a giant round pedestal to the inside of the home where it doubles as another room of the house and the two can share their energy, with electricity flowing to whichever needs it more. It is an extension of Renault’s long-running well-being theme, updated to a new tagline: French design, easy life. As a car, it is self-driving and a quick one with 670 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque. –Alisa Priddle The post Best Cars of the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show appeared first on Motor Trend.

Ask Ethan: Did Some Of Earth's Meteorites Originate Beyond The Solar System?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 1860, a meteor grazed Earth, and produced a spectacularly luminous light display. It is eminently possible that some of the meteors that strike Earth have their origins outside of our Solar System.
Frederic Edwin Church / Judith Filenbaum Hernstadt
It’s no secret that fragments of asteroids, comets, and other spaceborne objects have been found here on Earth. Whenever a naturally occurring object encounters planet Earth, it speeds through our atmosphere, creating a spectacular streak of light: a proverbial shooting star. Most of these are assumed to originate in our own Solar System, consistent with our experience with meteor showers, and some of them even make it to Earth’s surface, becoming meteorites. But, with the recent visit from an interstellar interloper — ‘Oumuamua — are we certain that they’re all from close to home? That’s the question of Jan Rolstad, who asks:
The passage of ‘Oumuamua through our planetary plane got me wondering about something. Most meteorites found on Earth are dated back as far as 4.6 billion years, or the age of our solar system. What if a meteorite was found that had originated in a another, much older planetary system. How would an eight billion year old piece of an alien system be recognized, or would it? Maybe some of the space rocks being found on Earth are like ‘Oumuamua, visitors from another star.
It’s absolutely possible. Here’s how we’ll find out.
Meteor (Barringer) crater, in the Arizona desert, is over 1.1 km (0.7 mi) in diameter, and represents only a 3-10 MegaTon release of energy. A strike such as this likely occurs on Earth once every 10,000 years or so. A 300-400 meter asteroid strike would release 10-100 times the energy, and would potentially be significant enough to send fragments of Earth into space, ejecting it from our world where it may journey to other locations in the Solar System. Strikes such as that occur less frequently; perhaps once per million years.
USGS / D. Roddy
Thus far, all across the world, we have enormous evidence for Earth having a rich history of collisions from objects from outer space. While you might typically think of “the big one,” like the asteroid strike that wiped out the (non-avian) dinosaurs some 65 million years ago, most of the collisions that Earth experiences are from smaller, less massive, and less energetic objects.
Sure, the overwhelming majority of what strikes planet Earth from space is too small to make it down to the surface, but we still receive meteorites intermittently. While enormous craters like Barringer crater (above) often have meteorite fragments near their centers, at the impact site, there are smaller strikes that occur far more frequently. Even though most of them are so small that they burn up in Earth’s atmosphere, plenty of these space rocks eventually make it to Earth.
On February 15, 2013, a meteor appeared in the sky near Chelyabinsk, Russia, and crashed down into the Earth, leaving a crater and recoverable fragments. It is estimated, based on the energy of the impact, that this is the largest recorded impact on Earth since the Tunguska event of 1908. (Elizaveta Becker/ullstein bild via Getty Images)
Getty
You might be familiar with the larger, damage-inducing events like the Tunguska event of 1908 or the Chelyabinsk strike more recently, in 2013, but these are again a minority. They may not be the 1-in-100,000,000 year events like the Chixulub crater event, or even the 1-in-10,000 year events that led to Barringer crater, but even these once-per-century events aren’t most of what make it to the ground.
Instead, there are strikes that occur more frequently than once-per-year, where fragments of bolides — bright meteors that leave long, luminous trails in our atmosphere — make it to Earth’s surface. Most of these break up in the atmosphere, while most of the ones that reach the surface strike the ocean. Still, a significant fraction fall on land, and some of them, like 1969’s Murchison meteorite, can be seen falling and then have their surviving fragments recovered. In one case, a meteorite even struck a human during its final fall to Earth, the only such case known.
This photograph, dating back to 1954, shows Alabama woman Ann Hodges in her bed, with the enormous bruise left by the meteorite that struck her after falling through her roof. As of 2019, she remains the only known person to have been directly hit by a falling object from space.
JAY LEVITON, TIME & LIFE PICTURES/GETTY IMAGES
When these objects do make it to our surface, they go from meteors to meteorites, meaning that they leave fragments behind that can be collected and analyzed. While there are over 1,000 documented meteorite falls, there are closer to 60,000 meteorites that have been found on Earth: the majority of them are not witnessed by humans. This is because even though the odds that a meteor strikes Earth is largely location-independent, human population is clustered together in cities and other regions well-suited for human habitability.
However, not seeing a meteor fall doesn’t preclude us for determining their composition, and that composition provides a clue as to their origin. In previous generations, meteorites were categorized very coarsely: you were either
a stony meteorite, made mostly of silicate rock,
an iron meteorite, made mostly of iron, nickel, and similar metals,
or a stony-iron meteorite, with large amounts of both silicate-based and metal-based materials.
If all of the meteorites we found had a common origin, like the asteroid belt, this classification would have been all we ever needed.
The size distribution of asteroids is closely related to the size distribution and frequency distribution of meteors that strike Earth. However, there are additional strikes that also occur, and they cannot be explained by our asteroid belt alone.
Marco Colombo, DensityDesign Research Lab
In more recent times, we now categorize them according to their physical structure, their mineralogy, and the composition of the chemicals, elements, and isotopes that compose them. Prior to 1900, only perhaps a few hundred meteorites were known, and they were largely of the iron or stony-iron varieties, since they’re the ones most easily distinguishable from terrestrial rocks.
However, we developed a much greater understanding of meteorites in the 20th century, and both scientists and amateur citizen enthusiasts began searching for them all over Earth’s surface. With a much larger sample of meteorites, we discovered that a whopping 94% of all of them are actually stony (silicate-based) meteorites, and so it became necessary to develop a better classification scheme. Otherwise, you’d lump all of the most common class of meteorite together, and there are enormously important differences between them.
This black-and-white mosaic picture shows the Mars Pathfinder rover Sojouner (in foreground) and the Martian surface with tags indicating the different names given the rocks on July 6, 1997. Sojourner, as part of the Mars Pathfinder mission, became the first rover on Mars, and analyzed a number of rocks on the surface for their chemical and elemental/isotopic composition. (POO/AFP/Getty Images)
Getty
Here’s the biggest one, and one of the most surprising discovery about meteorites in our lifetimes: about 3% of all the meteorites found on Earth originate from Mars.
This was suspected for many years, but the proof came in 1997: when the Mars Pathfinder mission successfully landed on and roved across the Martian surface. The physical and chemical composition of rocks there matched a fraction of the meteorites found on Earth, and suddenly revealed that their origin was not from the asteroid belt, but from Mars.
How a meteorite’s origin is determined is closely related to how it’s age is determined. To get there, you have to take a look inside.
An H-Chondrite meteorite found in Northern Chile shows chondrules and metal grains. This stony meteorite is high in iron, but not high enough to be a stony-iron meteorite. Instead, it is part of the most common class of meteorite found today.
Randy L. Korotev of Washington University in St. Louis
Remember: 94% of all meteorites are stony meteorites. If you have one and cut it open, you’ll find that there are two classes of stony meteorite:
chondrites, which have small, round particles (known as chondrules) inside of them,
and achondrites (which includes all of the meteorites from Mars), which don’t.
About 86% of all meteorites are chondrites, and contain these silicate minerals that show evidence of having been melted a long time ago. While some chondrites contain organic matter like amino acids, they all contain a wide variety of elements inside of them. The asteroid belt is theorized to be primordial material left over from the formation of our Solar System, some 4.56 billion years ago. The way we determine the age of the Solar System comes, in part, from looking at these chondritic meteorites, and in particular at the elements and isotopes found inside. The key to understanding their ages is to look at the reactants and products of radioactive decay.
Schematic illustration of nuclear beta decay in a massive atomic nucleus. Rubidium-87, which has 37 protons and 50 neutrons, undergoes beta decay with a half-life of around 49 billion years. This decay converts it into a strontium-87 nucleus, with 38 protons and 49 neutrons, emitting an electron and an antielectron neutrino in the process.
Wikimedia Commons user Inductiveload
For example, both the elements Rubidium (Rb) and Strontium (Sr) are found in nature, with a variety of different isotopes. Rubidium, for example, only has one stable isotope (Rb-85), but it has a second very long-lived isotope (Rb-87), which has a longer half-life than the age of the Universe: at 49 billion years. Strontium, on the other hand, has four stable isotopes: Sr-84, Sr-86, Sr-87 and Sr-88, with no long-lived unstable isotopes.
An object will begin its life with a certain amount of all six of these isotopes, but we should focus on three in particular: Rb-87, Sr-87, and Sr-86. Think about it as follows:
When our Solar System first forms, there’s an original amount for all three of these: Rb-87, Sr-87, and Sr-86.
As time goes on, some of the Rb-87 will decay into Sr-87, so that the amount of both Rb-87 and Sr-87 changes over time.
However, the amount of Sr-86 doesn’t change over time; nothing decays into it and it doesn’t decay into anything.
Therefore, if you measure two ratios at the oldest points within a sample — the Rb-87/Sr-86 ratio and the Sr-87/Sr-86 ratio — you can derive how much time has passed since this sample was created.
My measuring the ratios of both Rb-87/Sr-86 and Sr-87/Sr-86 across multiple samples within a single meteorite, we can construct a line with a particular slope, and therefore derive an age for the meteorite itself.
H. Y. McSween, Meteorites and Their Parent Planets, Cambridge University Press (1987)
This method is absolutely brilliant for one compelling reason: it requires no assumptions about the composition of the initial material. The only variable is time, or how long it’s been since this sample was created.
This is how we infer the age of the various meteorites we find on Earth. Rubidium and Strontium aren’t the only isotopes we use, of course; they’re simply examples. In addition, Uranium and Thorium (which decay into various isotopes of lead), Potassium (which decays into Argon), and Iodine (which decays into Xenon) are also used.
All told, the chondrites are approximately 4.5-to-4.55 years old, while the achondrites display enormous variations. This is largely because the achondrites are suspected to belong to large parent bodies, and are produced when they themselves are impacted, kicking up debris. In fact, within the achondrites, there are two special groups: one that corresponds to meteorites with lunar origins (as confirmed by the sample returns from the Apollo program) and one that corresponds to meteorites with Martian origins (as confirmed by various Mars rovers).
A NASA picture taken on May 5, 1972 shows A close-up view or “mug shot” of Apollo 16 lunar sample no. 68815, a dislodged fragment from a parent boulder. A fillet-soil sample was taken close to the boulder, allowing for study of the type and rate of erosion acting on lunar rocks. Subsequent analysis of lunar samples has allowed us to identify a number of meteorites found on Earth that are clearly of lunar origin. (NASA/AFP/Getty Images)
Getty
In general, the chondrite meteorites are likely all of asteroidal origin, and are all roughly the same age as the Solar System. The achondrite meteorites can be much younger: some of lunar meteorites are only 2.9 billion years old and some of the Martian meteorites are only 200 million years old. As long as radioactive dating doesn’t lie, we’d be able to identify whether a meteorite was of pre-solar origin simply by finding one whose isotopes told us it had been around longer than 4.56 billion years or so.
On the other hand, most of the meteors never make it down to Earth, but instead burn up in our atmosphere. In a remarkable study, it appears that one of them may have impacted Earth and done exactly that back in 2014.
An animation showing the path of the interstellar interloper now known as ʻOumuamua. The combination of speed, angle, trajectory, and physical properties all add up to the conclusion that this came from beyond our Solar System.
NASA / JPL – Caltech
Just as the origin of ‘Oumuamua was identified based on its orbital parameters with respect to our Solar System, many other objects can have their orbital parameters either tracked or reconstructed. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory keeps a catalog of bolides that enables astronomers to reconstruct where an object might have come from and how quickly it may have been moving. A meteor from January 9, 2014, seen over Papua New Guinea, may have been our first identifiable interstellar bolide, according to a new (but not yet published) study.
In principle, we could identify an incoming object as having an interstellar origin by its velocity and trajectory, and then — when it strikes Earth — take its spectra, determining its composition. Even a meteor, not just a meteorite, could be identified as truly originating from beyond our Solar System.
With the possibility of interstellar origins for space rocks now a reality, it’s enough to make you want to do an atomic analysis of every meteorite ever identified on Earth, isn’t it?

2019 Land Rover Discovery Engine, Release Date And Price
New Post has been published on http://usacardriver.xyz/2019-land-rover-discovery-engine-release-date-and-price/
2019 Land Rover Discovery Engine, Release Date And Price
2019 Land Rover Discovery Engine, Release Date And Price – This really is almost no time to quit the Land Rover market. You want to require a leap forward from some powerful competitors preparing for the genuinely amazing Land Rover Discovery 2019 It is among the most popular cars in the marketplace with many extensions specially designed to offer your design. The cabin and the engine would be the front top. Rumors pointed out that upgrades throughout the auto are still a huge secret.

2019 Land Rover Discovery Interior And Exterior
We are reasonably sure the newest Land Rover Discovery 2019 is preferable in a position to complete individually for engine ability to recharge the body’s design. Also, it provides a higher level of convenience. The model with this auto is kinda large using the tiniest development from the front body shape design. Because of the freshly created grille, it will make far more assertive than well before, particularly with the bright light it can produce stylish and frightening. Additionally, the body has enhanced for brand new Land Rover Discovery aerodynamic functionality, generating the performance entirely improved by using a far better curve.
Referring to the design of the cabin, it can be predicted that its new auto is going to be introduced with all the maximum level of convenience to provide far more customer care. The cabin design is ultimately a newcomer to the existence of the seat leather-based fabric. Its dimension continues to be more prominent so that the cabin could cater to a lot more than five men and women for the reason that seating can support seven passengers’ area. The cockpit is a lot easier to update than just before travel control in new discovery.
2019 Land Rover Discovery Engine Specs
All new vehicles should absolutely provide a far better specification in the engine than the most excellent tool which will surprise consumers. We believe that this competition among some high levels of the game will be improved from the support of new Land Rover Discovery with excellent engine performance. Even though business fails to expose any guide in any way, it seems that the engine can use the 2. liter a number of-cylinder engine. This engine is associated with the auto transmission 9 rate, so the generate manage could possibly be higher pace. Nevertheless, it is nonetheless challenging to know the volume of potential and torque using this type of engine.
2019 Land Rover Discovery Release And Price
New Land Rover Discovery is still below growth along with its release date continues to be miles away. Rumor described that whenever in 2018 with all the price could appear, should never go beyond $ 39,000
