Mahindra SA introduced minor updates to the Mahindra XUV300 for sale - a compact SUV that was launched here in 2019.
The ivory and beige interior of the India-built vehicle has been replaced by a black dashboard and black seat upholstery, after feedback from customers who called for a darker interior with a more upmarket look that attracts fewer smudges when travelling with children.
The darkened dash is still made of hard plastic instead of the classier-feeling soft-touch type, but that’s not unexpected in a budget range priced between R240,000 and R350,000.
A further improvement sees the infotainment system’s display growing from 7 inches to 9 inches, and all models with the touchscreen offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
Despite the budget prices, the cars are decently kitted in a competitive segment that includes popular models like the Toyota Urban Cruiser, Ford EcoSport and Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
The XUV300’s range-topping W8 grade offers high-end items like dual-zone climate control, navigation, reversing camera, leather-clad steering wheel, tyre pressure monitor, sunroof, self-dimming rear-view mirror, automatic headlamps and window wipers, as well as seven airbags.
Standard safety across the six-model range comprises at least two airbags, electronic stability control, ABS brakes, and ISOFIX seat mounts for child restraints. The XUV300 became the first car in Africa to achieve a maximum of five stars in Global NCAP crash tests.
The range continues to offer both petrol and diesel options, and all models are six-speed manuals with front-wheel drive.
The turbo petrol is a 1.2l unit with outputs of 81kW and 200Nm of torque. The turbo diesel is a four-cylinder 1.5l with 85.8kW, and with 300Nm it offers the best torque in its segment. It is also one of the most frugal vehicles in the category with its claimed 4.8l / 100km.
PRICING AND WARRANTY INFO
Pricing includes a five-year/150,000km warranty. The W4 and W4 SE have three-year/50,000km service plans; all other versions have five-year/90,000km service plans.

Brief history of Ford EcoSport
The Ford EcoSport made its debut with three engine options: 1.0-litre turbo petrol, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel unit. Over the years, Ford offered minor updates and editions to keep the brand alive including introducing the 100PS diesel version in October 2015.
In November 2017, the first major update came in the form of changes done in and out. It also got a new 3-cylinder 1.5 petrol with 123 bhp of power. The 1.0 EcoBoost was taken out but reintroduced with the sporty S variant in 2018.
As of August 2019, the EcoSport is offered in two petrol and one diesel unit. Ford has been shuffling features among all its trims and this has been a bit confusing. The current line up also gets a Thunder edition and 17 inch wheels have been taken off from all but this edition.

The Ford EcoSport is aimed at young car enthusiasts who value safety and driving pleasure over parameters like low cost, fuel economy or resale value. Most owners we see know cars in and out and understand the strong points that Ford cars come with.
These owners are under 35-40 years old, have a micro family and love heading out for weekend drives once every 2-3 months. For them, safety is extremely important and no wonder then, the higher end EcoSport trims are a common occurrence on roads.
We have also seen older car lovers invest in a Ford back to back and the Ford EcoSport for sale remains a common pick.

A used Ford EcoSport is aimed at those who want a proper SUV (without 4×4 of course) at a lower price point. Some used Ecosport owners will be ex or current Ford car owners and want to continue with the same brand due to its positives.
The EcoSport does not offer ample 2nd-row space and consumers understand this. For them, safety, driving pleasure and premium-ness have higher priority. Like new EcoSport owners, these are also relatively younger audiences who are either unmarried or have micro families.

If you are looking for space, the EcoSport will disappoint you. With tall people upfront, legroom and knee room at the back is the least among all other rivals. As there is no true entry-level or base version, the starting price of the EcoSport remains the highest too. Ford has been removing a few features from few trims and keeps unique ones reserved for the top end one.
The models with 17-inch wheels suffer from poor ride quality and there have been multiple reports of tyre sidewalls getting damage easily.
The 1.5 petrol, though good in terms of performance, isn’t as good as others in terms of smoothness due to its 3-cylinder set-up.
The ideal used Ford EcoSport you should buy
Ideally, pick the latest version that went on sale in November 2017. This variant looks fresher and sportier while at the same time, got interior updates too. We agree though, you will have to shell out a lot of money for these ones.
If you are on a lower budget, the 2014-2015 models will do just fine. Make sure the cars you filter down come with complete service history for added peace of mind.
Buying newer and older used Ford EcoSport compact SUV
Given the build quality and the fact that most owners are enthusiasts who will ensure the car is taken care of, opting for a used 2013 model isn’t bad at all.
Of course, if your pocket allows, a younger model with less mileage will be better any day.
Those looking at the famed 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor will have to work a bit hard as this particular engine sold in fewer numbers and was intact taken off the market for a few months in between. But if you do find out, grab it without any second thoughts. Likewise, those looking to buy a used S or Signature or Thunder edition of the Ford EcoSport will have to do a bit more digging around.
Used Ford EcoSport for enthusiasts
If adventurous (higher risk appetite), what to buy. For example, enthusiasts or those who get tempted by luxury may opt for the Accord/Camry / Superb V6. Much more powerful but has lower mileage and a higher cost of parts and maintenance if things go wrong.
If you are looking for a used Ford EcoSport for sale that offers a lot of thrills, see if you can find the 1.0 EcoBoost variant at Group 1 Cars. This is a turbocharged petrol engine and though has a small displacement, puts out 123 bhp of power. Just for comparison, the 1.2 on the WRV is good for just 89 bhp and that on the Nexon makes 108 bhp. It is hard to find this model but if you do, don’t let it slip away. Thankfully, the scheduled maintenance cost isn’t too high.
What to check before buying a used EcoSport
The Ford EcoSport is largely a relatively trouble-free compact SUV. However, as discussed above, there have been various recalls and you need to be aware of that. So keep away from used EcoSports manufactured in that time period.

The latest facelift model, launched in November 2017 is definitely better than the older models. For example, it got a new 1.5-litre petrol engine with better performance and fuel economy. Producția de automobile în România a scăzut cu aproape 13% în primele zece luni ale anului, comparativ cu perioada similară a anului trecut. S-au produs doar 356 de mii de unități, față de 408 mii anul trecut.
Potrivit datelor ACAROM, în octombrie 2020 au fost produse în România un număr de 51.418 de autoturisme, în scădere cu 3.2% față de perioada similară din 2019, când au fost produse 53.119 unități. Față de luna precedentă scăderea a fost de aproape 6.500 de mașini. Cele mai multe mașini au fost produse în uzina Dacia de la Mioveni (29.676), în timp ce 21.742 de unități au fost produse de uzina FORD de la Craiova. Luna trecută au fost produse 21.537 de mașini Dacia Duster și 21.742 de mașini FORD EcoSport și Puma.
În primele 10 luni din acest an, producția totală de autoturisme în România s-a ridicat la 356.491 de unități, în scădere cu 12.61% față de perioada similară din 2019, când au fost produse 407.931 de mașini.

As The Henry Ford celebrates the milestone of digitizing its 100,000th artifact, we have been given the opportunity to reflect on the importance of this work and how it positively impacts our ability to share our stories with the world.
What does digitization mean? Digitization is the process of getting an artifact online for the public to view in a digital format. The Digitization and Digital Content pillar of the William Davidson Foundation Initiative for Entrepreneurship directly contributes to the museum’s digitization effort. As Project Curator, I work with other curators to identify entrepreneurial stories within our collections and select items to be digitized by the Entrepreneurship team. I am then able to use the digitized artifacts within pieces of digital content, such as blog posts and expert sets, to share these stories with the public.
Product Catalogue of F. & J. Heinz Company, circa 1878. Through the William Davidson Foundation Initiative for Entrepreneurship, we were able to digitize this amazing catalog of F. & J. Heinz products from The Henry Ford’s sizable H.J. Heinz Company collection. Digitization of this catalog, as well as other objects from the Heinz collection, provide greater resources for researchers and visitors interested in learning more about the history of this company / THF291879 & THF291887
So how does this process begin? For me, it starts with doing background research on the individual, company, or collection identified, and then spending time in the Benson Ford Research Center looking at every item in that particular collection. This can take hours—sometimes days—depending on the size of the collection, but it’s fun to work with the physical documents, photographs, and other materials within the collection and see what interesting things I discover.

While looking through the collection, a story begins to unfold and I can start to see how we might utilize some of the items to tell that story in a blog post or expert set. When selecting items for digitization, I really start to think about what items would visually represent the story I’m trying to tell. I also look for items that I find personally interesting and artifacts that I think others will enjoy. But to use the items in digital content, they must be cataloged and imaged.
What does it mean to catalog an artifact? Cataloging is the process of entering important identifying information about an artifact into the museum’s collection’s management database. Important information includes the artifact’s unique ID number, title, maker history, date, location, and description of the artifact, among other things. Catalog records are not only accessed by internal staff, but much of the information is also made accessible to a global audience through our Digital Collections – one of the many ways we present information about our collections to researchers, other organizations, and the general public around the world.

For the Initiative for Entrepreneurship, after individual items have been selected for digitization, the Project Cataloging Specialist makes sure that the items are cataloged and any important information is included within the catalog record. It is extremely helpful if the catalog record has an image of the object available, which is one reason why the next process, imaging, is so important.
What does imaging mean? Imaging is the process of rendering an object, document, photograph, etc. into a digital format. For 3D objects, imaging occurs through photography—for example, to learn how we photograph our quilt collection, check out this blog post. For 2D materials, digitization can occur by scanning or by photographing the objects, depending on their size, material, fragility, and other considerations. The images must also be cropped and processed through programs such as Adobe Photoshop—but it is important to note that we do not use these types of programs to make the objects look better. Our imaging goal is to provide an accurate representation of the physical object.

For the Initiative for Entrepreneurship, after the item is cataloged, the Project Digitization Specialist images the object and processes the image(s), then uploads it to our collection management database. When the artifacts are both cataloged and imaged, they are harvested to our Digital Collections, for people all over the world to enjoy.
Once artifacts are online, I can then use them in digital content like blog posts, using the objects to help share stories with the public. “The Larkin Idea” is one of my favorite posts, because we had the opportunity to tell the entrepreneurial story of the Larkin Company utilizing a variety of digitized artifacts.
Digitization for the Initiative for Entrepreneurship began in February 2019, and since then our team has digitized nearly 2,500 artifacts from 19 different collections! This initiative, funded by the William Davidson Foundation, has given The Henry Ford an amazing opportunity to analyze our collections through an entrepreneurial lens and highlight the stories of entrepreneurs from the past so that they might inspire the entrepreneurs of today and tomorrow. A bit of a throwback, but herewith are the semi-finalists of the 2019/20 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards – powered by WesBank.
The awards programme recognises the best purchasing propositions in the respective categories of the new vehicle market.
“Vehicle purchases are amongst the biggest that consumers are likely to make in their lifetime,” said Ghana Msibi, executive head of sales and marketing at WesBank.
“Initiatives such as this offer credible opinions on the types of cars and features available in the market, and in so doing help consumers make informed decisions when choosing a new or used vehicle,” he said.
The 13 eventual category winners will be selected from the list of 65 vehicles, which includes model derivatives from 24 brands represented in the South African market.
All vehicles available on the South African market on September 1, 2019, were eligible, not only new products that were launched during the past 12 months.
Compared with the 2018/19 Cars Awards, the executive sedan category has been replaced with one that caters for premium-positioned crossovers.
The former Hot Hatch category (now named Fun Hatch) encompasses more affordable contenders and the price caps for the Premium SUV and Performance Car segments have been raised, it said.
“It is important to note that we analyse market changes proactively and adapt the categories to be better aligned with the South African consumer,” said Cars.co.za consumer experience manager Hannes Oosthuizen.
“With no new contenders in the Executive Sedan category, as well as very poor sales in that segment, we saw it fit to create a new category (to reflect growth and interest in upmarket crossovers) instead.
“Meanwhile there have been no new launches in the traditional hot hatch category, but there has been activity at a lower price point, so we’ve created a new category called Fun Hatch.”
And given the rapidly rising prices of cars for sale in Johannesburg, Oosthuisen said that sticking to a R1-million barrier for Premium SUV and Performance Car categories is no longer practical.
Volkswagen lead the charge in 2019/2020 again.
Even though 24 brands’ vehicles feature in the list of 65, five marques have more than three semi-finalists in the running for category honours.
Volkswagen has the most representatives (8), followed by BMW (6) and Audi, which has 5, although the A1 Sportback 40TFSI S Line is notably a semi-finalist in two separate categories.
Ford (5) and Toyota (4) round out the major manufacturers.

EcoSport 2013: detalhes, motor, consumo, preços, versões e fotos
O Ford EcoSport 2013 chegou como a segunda geração do SUV compacto que nasceu no Brasil em 2004. Após quase uma década, o utilitário esportivo da marca americana ficou quase totalmente renovado, pronto para manter a liderança.
Baseado na plataforma do Ford New Fiesta, o EcoSport 2013 ganhou um visual muito mais elaborado, fluido e atraente, porém, perdendo um pouco da essência off road do primeiro modelo.
As mudanças no design também foram acompanhadas por alterações na estrutura, que ficara mais rígida. Além disso, o SUV da Ford recebera um interior mais moderno e funcional.
Contudo, o espaço interno, embora maior, não produziu um porta-malas que fosse realmente suficiente para as necessidades dos clientes. Como não havia um concorrente forte direto, o EcoSport 2013 não tinha o que se preocupar.
Com 4,241 m de comprimento, 1,734 m de largura, 1,696 m de altura e 2,521 m de entre eixos, o Ford EcoSport 2013 tinha 362 litros, o que ainda era pouco para as pretensões de muitos.
Quando o Honda HR-V chegou, em 2015, ele estabeleceu um novo patamar, com média de 430 litros no segmento de SUVs compactos. Mesmo com estepe no exterior, o EcoSport 2013 sofre esse problema de falta de espaço por seu porte.
Em realidade, sua carroceria mede mesmo 4,01 m de comprimento, tanto que permitiu que o mesmo pudesse entrar no segmento abaixo de 4 metros na Índia, apenas com ajustes nos para-choques.
Tendo boas dimensões, o SUV compacto da Ford ainda manteve o “DNA” off road com uma versão 4WD que, no entanto, chegou somente alguns meses após o lançamento nacional, que foi sua estreia mundial.
Equipado com o motor Sigma 1.6 que entregava até 115 cavalos, enquanto o Duratec 2.0 alcançava 147 cavalos. Neste, o câmbio podia ser manual de cinco ou seis marchas (apenas 4WD), além do Powershift.
Este último era uma transmissão automatizada de dupla embreagem fabricada pela alemã Getrag, tendo assim seis velocidades.
Tratava-se de uma inovação, que colocava a Ford na vanguarda, visto que apenas a VW trazia poucos modelos com a moderna DSG, sendo todos importados.
Entretanto, a novidade se mostraria péssima para a Ford, visto que a caixa Powershift (que é uma marca da Getrag) começou a falhar, apresentando defeitos como vibrações, travamentos e outros problemas.
Até hoje a Ford tem de lidar com os custos de reparação e indenização de clientes em todo o mundo por conta dessa transmissão, que fora substituída por uma automática de seis marchas e conversor de torque.
Isso só ocorreu muitos anos depois, com o EcoSport 2016. Contudo, na época de seu lançamento, era uma novidade atraente. Trocas rápidas, imperceptíveis e sem perda de rotação.
Como já dito, o EcoSport 2013 foi a estreia mundial do SUV compacto desenvolvido primeiramente no Brasil. Antes vendido e produzido apenas em Camaçari-BA, o modelo agora ganhava outras praças.
Índia, Tailândia, Rússia, Romênia, China e Vietnã produziram o EcoSport de segunda geração, que expandiu sua atuação na Europa e chegou no mercado americano, mas apenas cinco anos após a estreia no Brasil, porém, trazido da Índia.
Projeto mundial, o EcoSport até hoje se mantém entre os 20 carros mais vendidos no país e atualizou seu visual em 2019. Sua terceira geração é aguardada com expectativa, pois, pode mudar completamente seu estilo e tamanho (maior).
EcoSport 2013 – detalhes
O EcoSport 2013 chama atenção por sua frente alta e arredondada, tendo um capô curto com vincos acentuados junto das colunas A, que são bem inclinadas.
A frente conta com faróis compactos de parábola única, ligados por um friso que funciona como grade, tendo esta o logotipo da Ford.
Ao centro, uma grade hexagonal estilizada com friso duplos. Nas laterais, molduras pretas com faróis de neblina pronunciados estão presentes, assim como a parte inferior do protetor.
Neste, a parte centralizada tem acabamento cinza, enquanto as laterais são pretas, assim como as molduras que revestem a parte inferior das portas. Os retrovisores são grandes, apoiados em pescoços que ficam presos à lataria.
Eles possuem repetidores de direção, dependendo da versão, mas sempre com acabamento preto, assim como as maçanetas. No teto, barras longitudinais e antena pronunciada.
Na traseira, as lanternas duplas são cortadas pela tampa do bagageiro, que tem abertura lateral, para a esquerda. A lente direita tem um a parte cromada, onde fica a maçaneta da referida tampa.
Nela, que tem amortecedor lateral, fica o suporte para fixação e travamento do pneu sobressalente do EcoSport 2013. A vigia com lavador e limpador, bem como desembaçador, é ampla e se conecta com as laterais. No alto, luz auxiliar de freio.
Já as rodas de liga leve podem ter aro 15 ou 16 polegadas, calçadas com pneus 205/65 R15 ou 205/60 R16. O para-choque tem sensor de estacionamento e suporte para placa.
Por dentro, o EcoSport 2013 é semelhante ao New Fiesta da época, tendo praticamente o mesmo painel. O conjunto é destacado pelo sistema de entretenimento SYNC, que traz uma pequena tela digital.
Traz Bluetooth, entrada USB e comando no volante. A parte inferior tem acabamento prateado, assim como o volante, tendo comandos físicos e teclado para discagem de telefone.
Os difusores de ar centrais ficam dentro dessa máscara prateada. Mais abaixo, ficam os comandos do ar condicionado em moldura pintada de preto brilhante, tendo ainda uma versão digital e automática do aparelho.
Compacto, o cluster analógico vem com conta-giros, velocímetro e nível de combustível. A direção tem acabamento prateado, como mencionado e pode ter comando para o piloto automático.
No console, molduras em preto brilhante e a alavanca com pomo prateado, especialmente no EcoSport 2013 4WD. As portas possuem comandos dos vidros elétricos, que podem ser todos sensíveis ao toque.
O banco do motorista tem ajuste em altura, tal como a coluna de direção e os cintos de segurança dianteiros. A padronagem é em tecido na S e SE, personalizado na FreeStyle e em couro/tecido na Titanium.
Com porta-luvas mediano, o espaço interno tem ainda porta-copos, luzes de leitura no teto, alças de teto internas, espelhos nos para-sois, retrovisor interno eletrocrômico e alarme estão nessa região.
Os retrovisores elétricos são ajustados na coluna A, em posição ruim. O banco traseiro é bipartido e possui apoios de cabeça nas laterais, enquanto os cintos de segurança de 3 pontos só existem nas extremidades.
Na versão 4WD, existe um botão de ativação da tração permanente nas quatro rodas. No Powershift, a alavanca de câmbio tem botão para troca de marchas no pomo, em lugar bem desconfortável, assim como na Chevrolet e Fiat atualmente.
Já o porta-malas é pequeno, tendo 362 litros e acesso por uma porta que só abre para um dos lados. Para aumentar o volume para bagagens, somente com o rebatimento do banco traseiro.

EcoSport 2013 – motor
O Ford EcoSport 2013 era equipado com dois motores, sendo um deles da família Sigma e outro da linha Duratec. O primeiro era um quatro cilindros feito de alumínio, tendo cabeçote também em alumínio.
Pertence à família Sigma, que surgiu como uma evolução do Zetec lançado em 1995. Com duplo comando de válvulas variável, o chamado comando Ti-VCT, o 1.6 usado pelo EcoSport ainda não havia recebido a última atualização.
Dotado de injeção eletrônica multiponto com tecnologia flex, que necessita do tanquinho para adicionar gasolina na partida a frio, o Sigma 1.6 nessa época entregava 110 cavalos na gasolina e 115 cavalos no etanol, ambos a 6.000 rpm.
Com seus 1.598 cm3 e 11:1 de taxa de compressão, o propulsor do SUV compacto tinha 15,7 kgfm no derivado de petróleo e 15,9 kgfm no combustível vegetal, ambos a 4.750 rpm.
Posteriormente, esse propulsor alcançaria até 128 cavalos, antes de ser retirado de produção. Essa atualização descrita, levaria ainda o câmbio Powershift para o motor.
No EcoSport 2013, ele apresentava somente transmissão manual de cinco marchas. Já o 2.0 era da família Duratec. Com a mesma arquitetura construtiva, este era de uma geração mais atual do Sigma, usando um bloco de volume maior.
Oferecendo o sistema Ti-VCT, o propulsor também tinha duplo comando no cabeçote, quatro válvulas por cilindro e outros componentes comuns ao menor.
Com boa força em baixa rotação, o Duratec 2.0 tem taxa de compressão de 10,1:1, bem como 1.998 cm3 de volume. Dessa forma, ele oferecia 141 cavalos na gasolina e 147 cavalos no etanol, ambos a 6.250 rpm.
Já os torques eram de 18,9 kgfm no primeiro caso e 19,7 kgfm no segundo combustível, ambos a 4.250 rpm. Esse motor também seria atualizado posteriormente no EcoSport, mas trocando o sistema de injeção.
Nesse caso, sairia a multiponto sequencial pela direta, com injetor de alta pressão dentro da câmara. Ele foi chamado de Duratec Direct e chega até 176 cavalos.
De volta ao modelo antigo, o propulsor trabalhava com dois câmbios manuais, sendo um com 5 marchas e outro de seis velocidades, que era usado exclusivamente no 4WD.
Além disso, trazia ainda a opção do câmbio Powershift, que é automatizado de dupla embreagem, contendo seis velocidades e chamando atenção pelos engates rápidos, suaves e com menor perda de força.
Contudo, o Powershift começou a apresentar inúmeros defeitos e problemas, como vibrações excessivas, ruídos, travamento e operação irregular.
Depois de inúmeras reclamações, a Ford fez um recall e até aumentou a garantia para 10 anos, bem como uma campanha que tirou até o nome da transmissão, passando a ser chamada de “sequencial”.
No final, a Ford trocou a caixa da Getrag por uma automática de seis marchas com conversor de torque, que sanou as reclamações, mas isso já na atualização que adicionou também o motor Dragon 1.5 Ti-VCT, o sucessor do Sigma.
Desempenho
O EcoSport 2013 tinha um bom desempenho, graças aos motores Sigma e Duratec, que possuem bastante torque em baixa e disposição. No 1.6, contudo, mesmo sem atualização, ele ainda consegue fazer pouco mais de 12 segundos.
Já o 2.0 manual é o que tem o melhor rendimento, ficando abaixo de 10 segundos. O 2.0 Powershift e o 4WD são um pouco mais lentos. O pior resultado era do 2.0 manual, estranhamente mais leve que o 4WD.
A diferença deste era uma marcha a mais, o que permitia aproveitar melhor o potencial do motor na aceleração, com trocas mais curtas nas saídas.

Consumo
No consumo, o Ford EcoSport 2013 já não era tão eficiente. O 1.6 Sigma não tinha uma boa média com álcool, o mesmo se agravando com 2.0 manual, mas o pior era o 2.0 4WD, com consumo excessivo na cidade.
Já na gasolina, o EcoSport era mais econômico na estrada com motor 1.6 e o 2.0 Powershift, surpreendentemente mais econômico que o 2.0 manual. Isso é fruto da caixa automatizada de seis marchas contra a manual de cinco.
A caixa Powershift era mais eficiente em consumo que as demais opções, exceto quanto com motor 1.6. Mais marchas e menor perda de energia favorecem a média.

EcoSport 2013 – manutenção e revisão
O plano de manutenção da Ford envolve revisões a cada 10.000 km ou 12 meses, o que vir primeiro. O EcoSport 2013 é um produto da marca que tem um custo com revisões elevado.
Em valores atualizados no mês de julho de 2020, o modelo com motor 1.6 soma R$ 4.824,00 em revisões até 60.000 km. No mesmo período, com motor 2.0, o SUV compacto tem o mesmo custo.
Durante esses serviços, a rede autorizada Ford substituiu diversos itens estabelecidos no programa de pós-venda, sendo eles óleo lubrificante, filtro de óleo, filtro de ar, filtro de combustível, velas, correia dentada, correia em V, entre outros.
Nas paradas programadas, são inspecionados diversos itens do veículo, sendo indicados (se necessário) serviços extras para alinhamento e balanceamento, rodízio de pneus, troca de pastilhas e discos, higienização oxi-sanitária, entre outros.

Tudo muda muito rápido na China, inclusive os carros. Apresentado em meados de 2018, o Ford Territory já passou por sua primeira atualização visual. O SUV médio será lançado no Brasil no segundo semestre de olho nos compradores do Jeep Compass.
Agora o modelo se chama Territory S para se diferenciar do antigo – que foi descontinuado. As mudanças visuais ficam por conta da nova grade frontal, máscara negra em seus faróis com leds matriciais e detalhes que antes eram cromados agora têm acabamento preto brilhante.

Não há qualquer alteração mecânica, contudo. O Ford Territory S usa sempre um 1.5 turbo com injeção direta de origem Mitsubishi que funciona em ciclo Miller, o que ajuda a explicar os 140 cv e 22,9 kgfm de torque quando motores semelhantes entregam mais de 170 cv. O câmbio é sempre do tipo CVT.

Sim, motor Mitsubishi. Se trata de um 1.5 4G15, da família Orion, lançada em 1977. Esta versão, especificamente, foi usada em versões de competição dos Mitsubishi Mirage e Colt a partir de 1993 e podia chegar aos 200 cv nas versões preparadas pela Ralliart.
Vale lembrar que o EcoSport Storm tem motor mais potente, o 2.0 Duratec com injeção direta com 176 cv.

A versão mais cara do Territory segue com um conjunto híbrido parcial de 48V. Neste caso, há um pequeno motor elétrico, baterias e sistemas eletrônicos para gerenciamento para aliviar o esforço do motor a combustão e, desta forma, reduzir o consumo. De acordo com a Ford China, a versão tem consumo médio de 15,9 km/l, contra 14,9 km/l das demais.

No Brasil ainda em 2020
A Ford nunca confirmou que o SUV médio chinês chegará ao Brasil com o mesmo conjunto mecânico, mas não há sinais de mudanças específicas para o Brasil além de sua conversão para ser flex. Contudo, sua data de lançamento no Brasil não deverá ter mudanças. O lançamento será já no segundo semestre.

In the early 1930s, tensions were running high between two competing news sources: newspaper publishers were feeling the strength of their monopoly slipping away as the public’s appreciation for radio news broadcasts grew. This time of conflict in communications history is known as “The Press-Radio War.”
Publishers felt especially threatened by the nimbleness of radio networks. Broadcasters could share breaking news immediately over the airwaves, rather than having to wait for the next day’s run of newspapers to be printed and distributed. At first, newspaper companies tried to boycott radio’s ability to grow into something more than just an entertainment medium by asking wire services to block the flow of newsworthy information to radio stations. But eventually, the two media formats settled into a truce by the late 1930s, partly owing to the demand for reliable information-sharing as the threat of World War II grew.

Some newspapers saw the financial benefit in blending formats and went so far as to cut out the competition by starting their own radio news stations. The Detroit News was one of the first newspapers in the United States to incorporate a commercial radio station into its operations. In August 1920, WWJ (then owned by the Detroit News) launched its program of nightly broadcasts under the call sign 8MK. As of 2020, WWJ has been on-air for 100 years!

In 1936, the Detroit News launched experimental audio broadcasting station W8XWJ from the 47th floor of the Penobscot Building in downtown Detroit. W8XWJ was formed under the FCC’s ultra-high short-wave “Apex” station program, an experiment designed to provide listeners with higher quality AM signals. The station’s original 100-watt AM vertical “whip” antenna was attached to the beacon sphere that tops the metal tower perched on the roof of the Penobscot Building. The height of the Penobscot—the tallest skyscraper in the city at that point—helped to disperse the radio waves over the entire city. Many people are familiar with the glowing red beacon at the top of the Penobscot, but its connection to the growth of radio in the city is not as well known.
From 1938-1940, W8XWJ ran a fascinating but ultimately short-lived experiment with an emerging technology called “radio facsimile.” Customers would hook a special “radio printer” up to their own radio, which would print the news overnight while they slept. In the morning, the news would be ready to enjoy with morning coffee – no need to deliver a physical newspaper!

At W8XWJ, a Finch Facsimile Transmitter was used to convert images and text into audio tones. These signals would arrive in customer’s home via radio waves, where their “radio printer” would translate the tones into human language. Everything would print out onto continuous rolls of thermal paper.

This is a Crosley Reado Radio Printer – the type of device that people would connect to their home radio and would receive their faxed newspapers on. When The Henry Ford conserved this artifact through an Institute for Museum and Library Services grant, our conservators were excited to find an example of a facsimile still on the drum inside the machine. In this image, you can see an original radio facsimile portrait of Boris Karloff, who was famous for his 1931 portrayal of Frankenstein’s monster.
The Henry Ford’s collections also include the original transmitter and amplifier that powered the W8XWJ station.

The idea behind W8XWJ’s radio facsimile experiment was revolutionary, but the process was slow and fussy. It could take over 20 minutes to print a single page of news, and signal reception became unreliable beyond a mile or two away from the transmitter. In 1940, W8XWJ ended its radio facsimile project.
While the original “whip” antenna for W8XWJ was replaced by a FM antenna in the early 1940s, if you look toward the top of the Penobscot building today, there is a tangle of communication equipment visible from street level. And in the interesting way that the new and the old can merge and converge within the histories of technology, some of this contemporary equipment fulfills radio facsimile’s promise to provide easily accessible information—the top of the Penobscot now serves as an important hub for Detroit’s wireless Internet network.
