CarGurus: Looking Forward to 2020
Tumblr media
We’re coming to the end of another year. But with 2020 right around the corner, we’ve got plenty to look forward to. We ask our editors what they’re excited to see in the coming year. Feel free to add your own thoughts here or on our Facebook page.
Megan Hennessey, CarGurus US Editor
Video courtesy of Cadillac
Next year, I predict we’ll see even bigger screens in our cars. Tech-focused companies, like Byton, have tested this idea in their prototypes; Byton has showcased a 49-inch screen in its M-Byte. Next year may be the year we finally see these massive screens in production-level vehicles. Cadillac kicked off this trend with a massive 38-inch screen in its 2021 Escalade. These bigger screens will likely mean the death of buttons and knobs, which several of our reviewers will certainly miss.
The other big prediction I have for 2020 is seeing more technology integrated into our driving experience. You can already use your phone as a key with Ford and Hyundai, for example. And Kia lets you sync schedules with other drivers, which you can see through a car’s infotainment system. I predict items like GM Marketplace will become more common across automakers. Soon, you may be able to shop, watch movies, and order dinner from the driver’s seat. Just make sure your data is secure!
Chris Knapman, CarGurus UK Editor
I’ve decided to go big for my 2020 preview—so let’s put to one side what will no doubt be a huge number of electric and hybrid cars for the (relative) masses, and focus instead on two top-tier contenders.
First up is the Ferrari Roma, pictured above, which is interesting not so much for its powertrain as the fact its styling represents such a break from tradition for the Italian firm. For in the Roma, there are generous swoops and curves that give it a softer, more elegant aesthetic than you’ll see in other modern Ferraris. Some have questioned if the Roma, as a result, looks a bit too much like an Aston Martin—but for me, it’s a gloriously individual piece of design that also happens to be home to a wonderful, sculpted interior and a 612bhp 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8. Sounds like a good recipe…
Tumblr media
If the Ferrari is special, then the Mercedes-AMG One promises to be quite simply off the chart. What we have here is a Mercedes Formula One drivetrain reimagined to work in a road car. So that’s a 1.6-liter V6 with four electric motors that together make more than 1,000 bhp. There’s also an 8-speed paddle-shift gearbox, pushrod suspension, ceramic brake discs, and a steering wheel that looks like something Lewis Hamilton might use at the weekends. So, yes, it’s going to be a pretty serious bit of kit.
Production is limited to 275 units with the price for each running into the millions. But ownership isn’t what makes cars like this interesting. No, what’s fascinating is seeing just how far (and how fast) the humble motor car can be taken.
Matt Smith, CarGurus US Editor
Prediction: We’re going to get dirty in 2020.
First, the Land Rover Defender is returning to the United States. This might not be cause for celebration for our UK Editor, Chris, but on this side of the pond, it’s been over 20 years since Land Rover delivered a properly boxy off-roader.
Tumblr media
The new 2020 Defender’s looks may be polarizing, to say the least, but it’s safe to expect this British bulldog will be a genuine mountain goat off-road. For the first time since 1997, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited may finally have some genuine competition. Maybe it’s time for a little CarGurus US vs CarGurus UK rivalry?
Tumblr media
Of course, the new Defender can’t steal all the muddy spotlight. We fully expect Ford to pull the cover off the long-awaited and much-anticipated 2021 Bronco this year. It’s been a while since O.J. Simpson sent the last iteration of the Bronco to an early death, and off-roaders and soft-roaders alike have been hankering for a genuine SUV from the blue oval.
While The Juice’s Bronco was a full-size SUV based on the F-Series truck platform, this new one will be a bit smaller, and likely a bit more nimble, as it’s being built on the same platform as the Ranger pickup—sounds perfect for our favorite off-road course.
Steve Halloran, CarGurus US Editor
Tumblr media
As one of my colleagues already mentioned, next year will no doubt feature a huge number of announcements regarding electric vehicles (EVs). Automakers have thus far brought more enthusiasm to the electric-car game than the average American driver, but car companies finally seem to be trying to figure out ways to market and build electric vehicles that should appeal not only to tech first adopters and “greenies,” but also to folks who like to drive.
Ford’s debut of the Mustang Mach-E, including prominent mention of its Porsche-beating 0-to-60 times, may mark a relatively new chapter in EV marketing outside the Tesla bubble. Porsche definitely called attention to its 918’s top-notch performance, but that car’s price put it in even rarer air than Tesla’s original Roadster and Model S. The Mach-E, expected to start at less than $45K, should appeal to a considerably more diverse pool of car shoppers than either of Tesla’s original models, and it will no doubt have company in its price range by the end of 2021.
Another relatively new development in the marketing of vehicles capable of running on electricity recently comes from Toyota, which has decided to make the plug-in hybrid version of its massively popular crossover, the RAV4 Prime, the most capable, and most exciting, version of that vehicle available to American buyers. Noting its sub-6-second 0-to-60 time and 302 horsepower in advertisements, Toyota hopes to make up for declining Prius sales with a wide range of hybrids, including sedan models that will face a narrowing pool of American competitors as Ford and GM execute their plans to focus more carefully on crossovers and SUVs in the future.
Whether vehicles running on electricity will ever be able to generate the excitement and sales that gasoline-powered automobiles have enjoyed in their first century remains to be seen, but we look forward to seeing new ads and approaches, as well as more exciting vehicles, next year.

We drove a $64,000 Cadillac XT5 and a $47,800 Acura RDX to see which luxury SUV was better — and the winner was obvious, Defence Online
Tumblr media

The stalwart Acura RDX.

Matthew DeBord/BI
The Acura RDX is a solid luxury crossover that’s been recently revamped.
The Cadillac XT5 was the brand’s first – and quite successful – effort at launching a new lineup of crossovers.
The vehicles don’t match up exactly, but they are quite similar, and consumers are likely to be comparing them with each other, and with SUVs from Audi, BMW, and Lexus.
The Acura RDX takes the prize in this comparison because it’s both fun to drive and priced to perfection.
Visit Defence Online’s homepage for more stories.
We live in the Golden Age of the luxury crossover SUV. Automakers have been launching them at a furious pace, to capture customers who have abandoned sedans and wagons in droves.
The major players are Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Lexus. But don’t forget about Acura, which has been selling a pair of superb SUVs, the MDX and the RDX, for some time. And don’t overlook Cadillac, which in the past few years has added a total of three crossovers to its lineup.

The impressive Cadillac XT5.

Benjamin Zhang/Defence Online
The first was the XT5. I like this SUV, but I’ve always been an Acura fan. So I thought I’d compare the XT5 with the RDX. Obviously, there are some segmentation questions that arise from such a matchup: the RDX covers both the compact and midsize segments, while the XT5 is intended to be Caddy’s midsize warrior (the XT4 covers the compact/subcompact space, and the XT6 handles three-row midsize duties).
The RDX is also priced significantly lower than the XT5. But segmentation is kind of shaggy these days, as some automakers stick with their smaller lineups and others add new vehicles to dice and slice markets.
Ultimately, I think it’s valid to cross-shop the XT5 with the RDX, thus this comparison. Read on to find out how it went down:
We checked out the all-wheel-drive Cadillac XT5 back in 2017, not long after the SUV was rolled out in 2016.
Tumblr media
source
Benjamin Zhang/Defence Online
We also tested the XT5 in both the Northeast and in Florida: the black SUV in the Sunshine State and the white version in the New York metro area.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
Transportation Reporter Ben Zhang tried the black XT5, which came with a slightly higher-level trim package and tipped the price scales at about $64,000, while Senior Correspondent Matt DeBord investigated a $58,000 “crystal white” XT5.
The new XT5 is undeniably sharp, but it proves that Caddy is shifting away from its at-time divisive “art and science,” Stealth-fighter design vocabulary toward a more globally appealing approach.
Tumblr media
source
Benjamin Zhang/Defence Online
There’s a smooth sweep of lines from front to back, with an integrated spoiler completing the roof line, and a bold – but not too bold – chrome-trimmed angle on the rear windows picked up and extended by the large rear tail lights. A pair of chromed exhaust ports delivers a sporty vibe.
The XT5 was the first new crossover from Caddy to join the stalwart full-size Escalade in the lineup. Cadillac has since unveiled a small XT4 and larger XT6.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
There’s more than cargo space to use the XT5 as an upscale weekend utility vehicle, to send it to the mall to load up on threads and flatscreen TVs, or to take it on a weeklong road trip with a family of five.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
We didn’t enjoy the combination of a 310-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, even when we put it into manual mode and used the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel and pepped up the driving mode. This bugged us. A premium crossover with a decent-size V6 should have been oomphier.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
We asked Cadillac to explain. A spokesperson told us that Cadillac’s “engineering’s team was aiming to get the best real-world fuel economy and day-to-day usability for buyers in the market segment,” adding that fuel economy ranks really high in owner surveys.”
This confirmed our theory. We didn’t think there was anything wrong with the engine, but we figured that Caddy had gone for MPGs-18 city/26 highway/21 combined-over performance.
The eight-speed shifts tidily, and the XT5 hauls you from 0-60 mph in a Caddy-claimed 6.6 seconds, and it had a reasonably competent all-wheel-drive system that should be able to handle the worst the suburbs throw at it.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
The interior of the XT5 is, in a word, fantastic. It’s roomy. It’s luxurious without being too much. It isn’t an orgy of topstitching and bright chrome. The materials are all excellent, premium, supple. The leather feels really good.
Tumblr media
source
Benjamin Zhang/Defence Online
The XT5’s panoramic moonroof is a stunner.
Tumblr media
source
Benjamin Zhang/Defence Online
The instrument panel is sort of old-school, but the steering wheel — leather-wrapped and wood-trimmed — is thoroughly modern, with buttons to control just about every function on the XT5.
Tumblr media
source
Benjamin Zhang/Defence Online
The infotainment system is a standout feature for the XT5.
Tumblr media
source
Benjamin Zhang/Defence Online
What makes it so effective is that the touchscreen interface is simple and intuitive; both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available; voice commands work well; the navigation is excellent and well-integrated with OnStar; and wireless 4GLTE connectivity means that an entire car full of people can use their devices on the road. That’s an amazing package.
The Bose audio system is wonderful.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
We’ve sampled all the premium audio systems on the auto market, and while some are more dynamically interesting than Bose, and some really make you feel as if you’re in a rolling concert hall, Bose Surround Sound will please almost any driver or passenger and can handle any type of music, from heavy metal to New Age, pumping it all blissfully through 14 speakers.
It hits a sweet spot. You just can’t find anything to complain about. That’s why it was our Defence Online Car Audio System of the Year in 2017.
On to the Acura RDX, which I tested in an Advance trim level. Sticker price: $47,800 (the base is $37,000, but that’s front-wheel-drive, versus all-wheel-drive for my tester).
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
For many, many Americans, the RDX is their version of a premium wagon and it’s dedicated to upscale family duty. But it also promises zesty performance and plenty of technology, given the typical needs and wants of an Acura enthusiast
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
This new-gen RDX is also taking some design cues from Acura halo supercar, the NSX, which took home Business Insider’s Car of the Year trophy in 2016.
SUV rear ends are usually a weak point, aesthetically, and the RDX’s is no exception. There’s a lot going on back there, what with all the swoops and indents and those crab-pincer tail lights. Bonus: Dual exhaust!
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
Our RDX was of the “Super Handling” all-wheel-drive variety, with torque vectoring that sends traction to the wheel that needs it most. This helps the RDX with stable handling and in bad weather and on poor roads.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
There’s no third row of seats, and thanks to the RDX’s larger overall dimensions relative to the previous gen, the cargo space is now a considerable 30 cubic feet. There’s also a power liftgate.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
The four-cylinder, 272-horsepower, turbocharged motor is demonstrably torque-happy with 280 pound-feet of pull on tap. It is also not torque-steer-y in any way.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
The RDX can serve up a 0-60 mph dash in about six seconds. Fuel economy is about what you’d expect: 21 mpg city/27 highway/23 combined. I drove around for a week on single tank.
The 10-speed automatic transmission, which has four driving modes (Comfort, Snow, Sport + and a default Sport), along with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
The leather interior is “Parchment” and almost but not quite as nice as the XT5’s.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
The 2019 RDX is bigger than its ancestors. The subtle size increase makes the rear seats notably more comfy for passengers. On a side note, getting in and out of the RDX is a breeze – not something one can say about every luxe SUV.
Both SUVs have panoramic moonroofs.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
I always find the Acura’s driver’s view to be soothing. That’s weird because you’re presented with all kinds of buttons, thumbwheels, and a switch on the RDX’s steering wheel. And although the analog instrument gauges are old-school, the somewhat complicated center display isn’t.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
Acura’s new infotainment system is called “True Touchpad,” and it uses a high-res center screen that juts from the dashboard and displays a host of apps, along the map, which is nearly always on view.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
Here’s where the magic happens. This touchpad can be used like a trackpad on a laptop, and there are several hard inputs. But you can also simply drop a fingertip to an area of the pad that corresponds to the screen.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
I found the voice-recognition feature to be satisfyingly accurate, and Bluetooth pairing, navigation, and USB/AUX inputs for devices were all successful. There are better infotainment options out there, but given Acura’s history, this new True Touchpad approach has promise. Best of all, once you learn it, you can keep your eyes on the road.
Apple CarPlay is available, but not Android Auto yet.
The ELS Studio 3D audio system is all Acura — specially designed for the brand and outfitted with 16 speakers in the RDX.
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
The system is spectacular – it won our Defence Online Car Audio System of the Year award for 2018.
And the winner is the Acura RDX!
Tumblr media
source
Matthew DeBord/BI
When I reviewed the RDX last year, I swooned. “I’d buy one,” I wrote.
“Seriously, I enjoyed the RDX immensely in the week that I drove it around the Jersey ‘burbs and the mean streets of New York City. But I tend to respond quite favorably to Acuras. For whatever reason, I think they combine a high level of luxury and value with legendary reliability and fun motoring that isn’t too demanding.”
A key differentiator for me between the XT5 and the RDX was the engine. The underpowered V6 on the XT5 that we tested was trumped by the overpowered turbo four on the RDX. The RDX’s power was snappier, and the fuel economy is superior.
The driving dynamics, however, were neck-and-neck. If I had to, I’d give the RDX a slight edge, but around corners, both crossovers are fun to handle.
Acura’s updated infotainment system is a notable improvement over the old setup, but the XT5 has an industry-leading system, so the RDX has a ways to go before it even thinks about knocking off the Caddy on this score.
In terms of interior appointments, the Caddy edges out a victory. But a slight one.
Overall, the Acura RDX wins this comparison because it simply feels more like a well-engineered, premium crossover that makes good on its brand promise. The XT5 is a dandy SUV, and it’s sold quite well since its introduction, giving Caddy an all-important crossover to pit against BMW and Audi.
But the new RDX continues to more than hold its own. It’s also extremely well priced. My tester was more than $10,000 less than the pricier cheaper XT5 trim that we sampled. OK, yes – the XT5 could be classified as more of a midsize luxury crossover, and perhaps we should see how the RDX stacks up against the Caddy XT4 that recently impressed us. But the Acura MDX has three rows, while the XT5 doesn’t (the new XT6 does). The vehicles are also almost exactly the same size (the XT5 is three inches longer).
The bottom line is that the RDX is and has been one of the most appealing offerings in the luxury market, both as an extreme value and as a capable crossover that’s a joy to drive. It’s one of those vehicles that I can recommend almost without reservations.

Best New Car Incentives, Lease Deals for August 2019
With the arrival of the end of the summer and autumn arrives, there is a good possibility for rent and purchase offers. The economy appears to be growing stronger, but there is still a general surplus in the number of vehicles in many dealerships due to lower sales, especially for sedans. There are still some 2018 models left in a lot of dealers for best cars deals, some with excellent offers, however, you may not have many colors and options to choose from.
Taking into account the fact that Induction conflict with China can see the increase in new car prices, coupled with the increase in interest rates, you should consider concluding an agreement as soon as possible. Some manufacturers offer great discounts to get them out of the lot.
Car manufacturers compete in terms of market share: it’s a good opportunity to get offers, because every car manufacturer wants to start a good start in the summer, so June could be a good month to get offers. Deals, especially in Rentals. Car dealers are also desperate to get rid of the remaining stock as soon as possible. Ford is testing various incentive packages after experiencing significant sales losses and falling stock prices. Many automakers have hidden discounts that lead to a 28% discount on MSRP (Hyundai, FIAT and Chrysler in particular).
The 2019 models took full hold of exhibition halls, meaning that there are still better deals on the 2018 models.
The average incentive per vehicle is currently about $ 3,500. There are some great offers and big discounts on the popular models such as Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, Kia Forte, Chevrolet Impala, Cadillac ATS and Chevrolet Malibu.
Brands like Hyundai, GM and BMW continue to offer a large number of leases and financing at 0%.
More about the best car offers
This month marks the heart of the summer season to buy cars. It is a good time to visit dealers, take tests and buy a new car. This month is a good time to buy as many dealers are full of new models, and car manufacturers provide excellent financing and generous cash-back incentives to keep sales going.
Not long ago, it was said that zero-percent financing agreements would disappear if this month was an indicator, the rumors of his disappearance being greatly exaggerated. There are zero percent of deals on cars ranging from Nissan Centra 2019 to affordable cars for the Toyota Siena 2019 Mini Van and Cadillac XT4 2019 luxury suv.
Finding exceptional deals on new cars requires some research. You need to know what a good business is, how to find it and how to compare the different companies that you find. After that, you’ll need to know how to take advantage of the offer to save thousands of dollars promised by the agreement.
Competition in the full-size transport sector is always fierce. This month, it is exceptionally fierce, since 2019 Ram 1500 before the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado in sales. Truck manufacturers are adding generous incentives to protect their market share, with Ford and Chevy providing zero-percent financing for six years. GMC offers a 20% discount on the price of some GMC Sierra 2019 redesigned, and other truck manufacturers offer great cash recovery offers.
However, trucks are not alone when it comes to big deals. There is a cash offer of $ 8,000 in the Cadillac Escalade 2019, and you can get up to $ 6,000 cash in the Nissan Murano 2019 in some areas of the country. The Buick Encore 2019 is available at an 18% discount on its price.
What Is a Car Deal?
Car manufacturers offer special offers for several reasons. Sometimes, the vehicle simply does not meet the sales targets that the manufacturer expects and needs some momentum to accelerate. It is natural that when the car approaches the end of the product life cycle, its sales are reduced. At the same time, traders should remove these old models of their shares to make room for the updated versions.
Buyers can save thousands by leveraging the efforts of automakers and dealers to remove some cars from the lot. The best part? You do not have to bargain for savings.
Three types of incentives are common. Rental incentives, which you will find on the rental offer page, offer low monthly payments, reduced amounts at the time of signing, or both. Cashback offers and financing offers reduce the price of the car or the cost of financing.
Refunds are a bit inappropriate. He will not leave the agency with a pile of money, although that would be great. Cash payment offers a discount on the price of the vehicle. They go with multiple names, including refunds, cash rewards, cash rewards and cash-back incentives. Regardless of the term used by the car manufacturer, they all reduce the amount you have to pay. For example, take advantage of the $ 3500 refund offer on the Lexus IS 2019 basic model, and lower the price from $ 38,560 to $ 35,060.
One of the major costs of buying cars is the amount you pay in interest when financing your purchase best cars deals Although many buyers do not take into account the cost, it can only add thousands of dollars. Taking advantage of a financing agreement can greatly reduce this price. If you have a zero percent financing offer, you can reduce the cost of financing to nothing. Finding a car manufacturer with low interest rates is like watching a bank with a big “sell” tag. By reducing or canceling the cost of financing, you can shorten the term of the car loan, or get a lower payment or maybe pay a better car.
To illustrate how much money you can make with a zero percent agreement, we’ll see the six-year financing offer and the percentage available in the Ford F-150 2019. Suppose you buy the Laret F-150 mid-range price of $ 41,700 and will not make a down payment . When you benefit from a zero percent agreement, you do not pay any interest. Just divide the price of $ 41,700 for 72 months from the loan to see that monthly payments will be $ 579.
Without a zero percent agreement, you may have to pay interest rates somewhere near the market average of 4.8% for a six-year loan. Using a car loan calculator to calculate the interest, you can see that the monthly payments will be $ 668. A zero percentage agreement would save $ 89 per month or $ 6,408 during the loan term. If you have to pay interest, your $ 41,700 group will cost you $ 48,108.
Best financing offers are zero percent offers, of course, because they cancel the cost of financing. However, any offer much lower than market prices will save you money. In most cases, buyers need excellent credit scores to qualify for the best interest rates. It is advisable to check your credit score long before starting your Odyssee car purchase so you can take steps to increase your chances of getting one of the best offers available..
In addition, although you have a car agreement with the car manufacturer, you still have to negotiate with the dealer to make the price lower.
Interest rates and cash equivalents are calculated in small letters and numbers. Most presentations are limited to specific models or even equipment levels for those models. Some are limited to a certain percentage of shares of distributors or consumers living in specific locations. Find the best offers available in your area using our Best Price Program, or by contacting your local dealer or by chatting with an online sales representative. It’s important to pay attention to the expiration date of any offer because losing it for up to one day can qualify you for the discount.
Investing a little time and travel can reap great rewards. Different dealers may pay different prices and Car Prices in India for car manufacturers to get cars in their shares, so if the dealer pays less than another dealer for the car they are considering, they will have more room to negotiate the final price. You can also save money by consulting merchants in areas where your favorite car is not very popular. Full-size trucks, for example, may be a deal in cities but not in suburban or rural retail stores, while hybrid cars may not be as common in rural areas as in the city.
How do you know if this is a good job?
Consumers should never assume that the advertised offer is a good offer automatically. It takes some homework to analyze an agreement, but fortunately, math is very simple. Most people build their decision to buy a car on a monthly payment basis, but this is a terrible way to buy a car. Instead, you’ll want to see the total cost of the car, including the cost of financing. You’ll need to do the calculations yourself, because it’s easy for a salesman to mix numbers to give you a low monthly payment, even if the deal is terrible. Not considering the total cost of the car is a financial error with consequences that last for years.
To calculate the total cost, multiply the monthly payment by the number of months in the loan and add any advance payment you make, plus your exchange value. For example, if you have monthly payments of $ 400 on a five-year loan and you pay $ 5,000, the total cost of the car will be $ 400 for a 60-month plus $ 5,000, equivalent to $ 29,000. You can find your monthly payment using a car loan calculator capable of calculating interest.
The first thing to remember is that there are three components to a car purchase process: the cost of the car, the cost of the financing and the value of the vehicle. You will want to keep them separate, while the distributor wants to assemble them all into a confusing agreement.
Car buyers often need to choose between a cash-back agreement and low-interest or no interest financing. Fortunately, decision making is easy when you know how to calculate the cost of each option. To illustrate to you, we will use two offers available this month in the Lexus IS 2019.
Lexus offers a cash option of $ 3,500 or a five-year non-interest financing agreement. To simplify things, we will assume that you chose a basic model, negotiated a price of $ 40,000 and do not have a down payment or exchange.
With a zero percent deal, the total cost of the car is still $ 40,000 because you do not have to pay any interest. Divide the price by the number of months in the term of the car loan, and you will see that each monthly payment is $ 667.
Choosing a cash refund of $ 3500 reduces the price of a luxury sedan to $ 36,500. However, you may have to pay almost the average interest rate of 4.74% on your loan for five years. Linking these numbers to the car loan calculates a monthly payment of $ 684. While the monthly price difference of $ 17 may not seem to be significant, it does increase the life of the loan. Hit $ 17 in 60, and you can see that choosing a zero financing offer saves you $ 1020.
There are many variables associated with different car offers, so do not assume that one type of offer will always be better than the other. Remember to include your exchange value and any advances made in your accounts zeromilecars in india.
It is necessary to resist the desire, or dealer suggestion, to extend your car loan in the last five years to reduce your monthly payment or to enter into a more expensive car. Taking a longer loan puts you in a more precarious financial position and generally increases the interest rate and total cost of the loan. You will never want to have to choose between paying for an expensive car repair that is beyond warranty or paying for your car..
Completing the Deal
Once an agreement is negotiated with the agent, it is time to sit down and do the paperwork. It may have been a long day of bargaining, and you just want to get into your Car Prices in India new car and keep away from it, but you have to slow down and take note of the details in the cards. You should read each page, making sure the numbers match with what you agreed to. Sometimes, expensive extensions appear magically in final documents, and you’ll want to remove them before signing.
The most important figures to look for are the duration of the loan, the car price and the interest rate. Never sign a document with blank spaces or errors, even if the financial officer has promised to correct them later. If you are under pressure to sign or misunderstand incorrect documents, remember that your greatest strength is to stay away from the deal.
If the dealer gives you the opportunity to take your car home during final document processing, you should politely reject it. What happens most often is that you will receive a call stating that you were not eligible for the agreement agreed upon by everyone, and that you should return to the distributor to complete the new documents. In many of these cases, the new financing agreement is much more expensive than the original agreement.
We are looking at offers based on representative postal codes throughout the country. We strive to keep this list updated, but offers may change without notice. Some special car offers are limited to a certain number of cars or a percentage of the seller’s inventory. The inclusion on our website does not guarantee that you have a certain agreement at your local point of sale. The easiest way to see if you can take advantage of an offer is by clicking the orange button next to the car you’re interested in, and we’ll look for an excellent price at a new local car dealership.

The Lincoln Navigator Black Label Is the Ultimate Big, Brash, Unabashedly American SUV
The 2019 Automobile All-Stars winners will be revealed on Saturday, March 9 at 11:00 am Eastern, but first we’re introducing—in no particular order—a few of the contenders each day this week. Head here for an All-Stars preview, and be sure to check back all week to see the contenders as they’re announced!
Towering above the All-Stars tangle of low-slung super coupes and sleek sedans, the Burgundy Velvet Lincoln Navigator reigned supreme—at least as far as presence in terms of sheer size is concerned. Even as the Continental and MKZ idle on dealer lots, the Navigator—along with the upcoming Aviator, smaller Nautilus, and even smaller Corsair—offers proof positive that Lincoln is well into its heretofore slow and currently steady climb back to relevance.
As far as full-size body-on-frame SUVs are concerned, the Navigator is incredibly elegant, inside and out. From its smooth, sweeping lines to the turbine-style wheels, the Navigator comes off as more reserved than the Cadillac Escalade and less polarizing than the wide-mouthed Lexus LX570.
As good as it is outside, the interior might be one of the snazziest cockpits we’ve seen this side of a Rolls or Bentley. “I love the interior design, which feels like a fresh approach to luxury in our time, blending tech with midcentury modern themes,” senior online editor Johnson said. “It lacks the final bit of polish and fit and finish, though, with some subpar plastics.”
Despite its cavernous interior space and tremendous towing capabilities (up to 8,700 pounds depending on spec), it was the Navigator’s bulk that turned off some of our judges. “One can’t help but feel that this massive package is somehow behind the times, in spite of its sincerest efforts at making its occupants feel like a million bucks,” contributor Basem Wasef lamented. Added editor-at-large and columnist Arthur St. Antoine: “If you want a big, comfortable, plush, amenities-laden truck-based SUV, the Navigator should be on your considerations list. Good as it may be, though, I cringe at the very thought of vehicles so leviathanlike. Not getting my vote.”
Tough crowd. Perhaps the Navi would have shined even brighter if each participant were able to use its size, three rows, and 510 lb-ft of torque to its full effect. Come back next year, Lincoln. We want to take that Aviator for a spin.

2019 Chevrolet Suburban Redesign, Specs
2019 Chevrolet Suburban Release
2019 Chevrolet Suburban
  2019 Chevrolet suburban
2019 Chevrolet Suburban Specs, Review –  The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban is likely to be the model of the latest generation of the current generation. These are the latest reports on one of the most iconic Chevrolet models. This long distance and long wheelbase SUV has been around for more than eight decades.
The original model appeared in the 1930s, while the current model has been present since 2013. The eleventh generation came with many novelties, but if you take into account the usual production cycle of the model, the next generation could become the 2020 model.
So, the 2019 Suburban probably will not have major changes. It will continue with a familiar design, that includes the same style, interior, motors, etc. However, there is the possibility of seeing a new 10-speed automatic transmission standard for all settings. In addition to the transmission, we could see many other new features, such as the new infotainment system and some new exterior and interior colors. Expect to see it by the end of 2018.
Engine SpecsRivalColors
Engine 5.3 V8 Power (hp/kW) 355/265 Torque (lb-ft/Nm) 383/519 Transmission 6-speed AT Drive RWD / AWD Fuel economy (mpg) 16/23/19 15/22/18
Ford Expedition Nissan Armada Toyota Sequoia Lincoln Navigator GMC Yukon Infiniti QX60 Acura MDX
Havana Metallic Pepperdust Metallic Satin Steel Metallic Siren Red Tintcoat Tungsten Metallic Black Blue Velvet Metallic Tungsten Metallic Wheatland Yellow
  2019 Chevrolet Suburban Redesign
As already mentioned, the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban will continue without any major changes. The famous SUV will continue to mount on the extended version of GM’s GM2 K2 platform. This platform is also used for GMC Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade. These three models share approximately the same mechanical characteristics. Also, a relationship with Yukon XL is much closer. Each of these two models has its own frontal aspect, but from the A-pillars to the back, everything is practically the same. As we mentioned, the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban will come with some small updates.
2019 Chevrolet suburban Interior
However, the basic design will remain the same. No changes in style are expected, but we could see new exterior colors in the offer. The same will happen inside. We could see some new color schemes, but the rest of the cabin will remain the same.
  2019 Chevrolet Suburban Interior
Finally, there is a Premier molding, which provides 20-inch wheels, xenon headlights, adaptive magnetic transmission control suspension, ventilated front seats, the navigation system, electrically adjustable front seats, cargo carpets and more. wireless charging, 10 speakers, premium Bose surround sound system and more. In addition, there is a total package group available as an option and a separate function in the power supply for each level of equipment.
With its lack of visual change, we do not expect anything new in its standard equipment list. If this is true, look forward to continuing with your standard 18-inch alloy wheels, eight-passenger seats, automatic windshield wipers, three-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 115-volt power outlet, touchscreen. 8 inches, six-speaker audio system and more.
Integrated two-piece grille, body color bumpers, LED daytime running lights, halogen or xenon front and LED taillights. Although there are ten exterior colors and three interior colors, we plan to offer two new variants. The cabin is luxurious: the leather seats; telescopic leather steering wheel; three-zone automatic air conditioner; 8-inch touchscreen.
  2019 Chevrolet Suburban Engine Performance
The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban will continue with the same powertrain. There is a 5.3-liter V8 family unit that offers approximately 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Until now, this engine was generally available with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but several reports suggest that the new 10-speed gearbox will become a standard feature at all trim levels. With so much power and torque, it’s no wonder that this big, heavy SUV moves so fast. It takes approximately 7.2 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. Braking is also at a high level, around 131 feet from 60 to 0. When it comes to off-road features, an extra-long wheelbase is an obvious limit for some better features. The average fuel economy is around 15 mpg in the city and 22 on a highway.
2019 Chevrolet Suburban release date and price
The 2019 Chevrolet Suburban is expected to arrive somewhere in the third quarter of next year. We do not expect changes in prices. Therefore, the basic models will be around $ 51,000, while the best-equipped versions could reach $ 70,000.

Motor News: 2019 North American International Auto Show Recap
The North American International Auto Show is always a special event for us here at Motorweek. But this year’s Detroit festivities are even more noteworthy, as this is the last time the show will be held in usually frigid January. It migrates to a warmer June time frame next year. But, before we get all nostalgic, let's see all of 20-19’s big reveals!
While most European automakers didn’t make the Detroit stop this year. The majority of domestic and import brands arrived at the 2019 North American International Auto Show with an extensive stream of all-new models that we just can’t wait to drive.
As always, the North American Car of the Year awards kicked things off. This year’s NACTOY honors going to the Genesis G70 for Car of the Year…
…the Ram 1500 for Truck of the Year…
…and the Hyundai Kona, including the Kona EV, for Utility of the Year.
Congratulations to all!
It was the Ford stand that really get our adrenaline pumping. As if descending from performance-car heaven…the all-new Mustang Shelby GT500. 700+ horsepower from a 5.2–liter supercharged V8 mated to a 7-speed DCT; no manual for now! While that may be heresy, with a 0-60 in the low 3s, this Shelby is going to kick some serious butt on the drag strip, along with road course dominance thanks to a magnetic suspension, loads of rubber crammed into the wheel wells, and Brembo brakes.  Carroll Shelby would definitely approve!
Ford had one for the family street scene as well…the all-new, three-row, 2020 Explorer SUV. Sharing the Lincoln Aviator’s chassis, it returns to a rear-wheel-drive architecture for better towing, with all-wheel-drive an option.
Targeting a wide swath of buyers, the all-new Explorer will be available as a Hybrid, as a high-performance 400 horsepower ST, and even as a Police Interceptor Utility.
Crosstown rival General Motors focused on providing families with three row crossover luxury in the new Cadillac XT6. It’s a more car-like option to the still truck framed Escalade. Sharing basics with the GMC Acadia, a 310-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 and 9-speed automatic transmission make up the XT6 powertrain.
The big news at Fiat-Chrysler, was big trucks, with an all-new Ram Heavy Duty. Yes, it does have 1,000 lb-ft. of torque, with its available high output 6.7-liter I6 Cummins Diesel; and double-yes, it will out-power, out-tow…35,000 pounds worth…and out-haul all other pickups. The Ram Power Wagon returns too, here with an updated 6.4-liter HEMI gas V8.
Debuts from imports start with a car…the new Volkswagen Passat.  Most of its Tennessee-built underpinnings and drive gear remain the same, but the sleek new sheet-metal is a major departure, and we like where it’s headed.
Perhaps even bigger news, was Volkswagen’s announcement of major expansion of the Chattanooga plant for upcoming EV models. With VW’s new Ford technology alliance, we might even see some future Blue Oval EVs made there.
Toyota officially unveiled the worst kept secret in car-dom, the all-new Supra, the first production car developed by Toyota’s GAZOO racing team. There’s still an inline-6 under the hood, only now it comes from Bavaria, as Supra shares a lot of its engineering with the BMW Z4.  That turbocharged mill cranks 335-horsepower, and will shuttle lucky owners to 60 in just over four seconds.
Toyota sprinkled some of their performance dust on the Lexus RC F as well, with a new Track Edition; boasting 472-horsepower from its 5.0-liter V8 plus speed focused aero tricks and weight removal galore.
Subaru’s STI tuner arm rewarded their most ardent fans with the special edition STI S209, the first S-line performance car sold in America. It sports road-rally style chassis updates, a wide-body design, and a 341-horsepower 2.5-liter turbo boxer engine.
Yes, the biggest Kia ever, the 3-row Telluride crossover utility is finally a reality. Sharing chassis with the Hyundai Palisade, it’s brawny body has room for 8, with plenty of V6 power to haul them, and their gear, to whatever active lifestyle stuff they get into.
Speaking of cousin Hyundai, they debuted the Elantra GT N Line. It launches a new series that fits between their full N brand performance cars, and everyday models.  Confusion to follow.
This year’s Detroit show included more eye-popping concepts than usual. After showing a longer range Leaf e+ at CES, this Nissan IMs EV concept may predict a sleek electric sport sedan joining the mix.
Nissan’s Infiniti could be the next brand to unleash a full-EV SUV; and that could be just the beginning. This concept, the QX Inspiration, rides on an all-new platform that will be the basis for a wide range of electrified offerings.
Technically, this Lexus LC Convertible is a concept, but it looks ready for prime time to us.  It also looks like a no-brainer; and would easily be the car to be seen in on the streets in Southern California and South Florida.
We’re told this crossover concept is a clear sign of what’s coming as GM transitions Cadillac to their lead electric vehicle brand.  Now, we didn’t actually see the vehicle, just these pictures, with no specific details, but Cadillac says stay tuned!
We’ve seen this diesel-powered Mahindra Roxor Jeep-lookalike for some time now; and as you might imagine, FCA has issues with the design, and has taken the brand to court.  But for now, it’s off-highway use only for this little runabout; making it the perfect mashup of an old CJ and a new Side-by-Side.
And it wouldn’t be a proper Detroit show without a Chinese car company saying U.S. sales are imminent. This year we have a 5-time return player as GAC Motor was back with its ENTRANZE EV concept, as well as production previews of several models including the GM6 minivan and the GS5 compact SUV.
And that’s it for the 2019 North American International Auto Show. We’ll be back in summer of 2020 for more from Motown!

2019 Cadillac Escalade
2019 Cadillac Escalade is sharp, effective and able to pull over most of the SUVs. The Cadillac Escalade  2019 basic trim comes with a dizzying variety of equipment, but the Premium Luxury and the Platinum take this great, gentle American machine to another level. The base trim is spacious inside and out. Standard equipment includes 20-inch wheels, adjustable suspension, LED headlights, automatic wipers, front and rear parking sensors, automatic parallel and perpendicular parking assistance, a hands-free lift, remote control, three-zone automatic climate control, a heated and power adjustable steering wheel, adjustable pedals, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated adjustable front seats, driver seat memory settings, heated rear seats and fold-up split third-row seats.
2019 Cadillac Escalade Features
Standard electronic features include the CUE infotainment interface, OnStar, a parking camera system, a customizable gauge cluster display, a navigation system, five USB ports, a wireless device charging path, and a Bose 16-speaker satellite system. radio. For a few more driver tools and a little more soft gear, you can ascend to the luxury trimmer. It adds 22-inch wheels, solar power, power-up second-row seats, a head-on screen, a camera-based rear-view mirror, and the Driver Awareness package.

Cadillac Escalade 2019
Our recommended trim, the Premium Luxury, offers customizable cruise control, a rear entertainment system with a Blu-ray player and an overhead screen, and a more advanced collision reduction system with both automatic and reverse automatic brakes. The most expensive and cute Escalade is the Platinum trim level. It definitely has all the bells and whistles, but you don’t have all the extras it offers. The Platinum adds power-boosting side steps, upgraded massage feature power seats, upgraded leather upholstery, a cool front seat console, and two back entertainment screens.
2019 Cadillac Escalade Interior
Apart from the infotainment system, the rest of the interior is a nice place to keep the miles away. The only real issues are compromised on the floor of the cabin and third-row seats made for the solid rear axle and non-slip second-row seats. Primary controls, such as shifts, are at hand. The instrument panel is clear and easily configurable. Infotainment software is sufficient, but the buttons around the screen are low and the haptic feedback of the lower buttons is missing. The shiny infotainment stack shows fingerprints and gloss. The inside of the Escalade 2019 is spacious, with spacious leg, head and shoulder compartments for first and second row passengers. Third-row passengers will feel the pinch in their knees and toes, as the non-slip second row does not offer much of a tonne. The front and driver side provide excellent visibility, but due to the size of the vehicle, the rear and passenger side views are limiting. Quail-blind spots are largely due to wide pillars. The surround-view camera is low and distorted, but it’s better than nothing.
2019 Cadillac Escalade V
2019 Cadillac Escalade Platinum
The 2019 Escalade is well-built, and the sharing of switches and touch points of the Suburban is the only real point. The seat material is noticeably better in the front seats than the second and third rows, and the hard plastic used in some parts of the interior feels cheap.
2019 Cadillac Escalade Engine
All 2019 Escalade models are equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 engine and a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The rear wheel drive is standard and four-wheel drive is optional. The V8 power is the primary driver of the Escalade’s performance. A new 10-speed automatic transmission makes it more efficient than before. The transfer is smooth and even down, but the Escalade is too big to be a skilled handler. The 6.2-liter V8 engine is responsive, torque and sounds good when the rotor rises. Thanks to its 420 hp, 460 lb-ft of torque and a rapid shift of 10-speed transmission, 0-60 km / h comes in 6.6 seconds, remarkable for such a large vehicle. The acceleration is one of the high points of the 2019 Cadillac Escalade SUV.

2020 Cadillac XT6 First Look: Key Addition Doesn’t Wear Flagship Mantle
Cadillac is a brand under repair. Cynics paint a faded marque in existential peril. Optimists see light on the horizon.
The crown jewel of the General Motors empire is pulling  up stakes from its Manhattan headquarters to return  to the safe confines of Detroit after its four-year experiment in the big city. This followed GM firing the brand’s top executive just a few months prior. The entire lineup is under review, as the future of the current flagship CT6 sedan is in doubt when it ceases production at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant in June after barely three years on sale. The new strategy is to make Cadillac GM’s “lead electric vehicle brand,” and it will get the first vehicle from the automaker’s new BEV3 platform, which will produce a family of electric vehicles of all body styles and offered with front-, rear- and all-wheel drive.
Countering the Lincoln lineup—with its magnificent Navigator getting raves and the splendid Aviator just unveiled—you wonder what Cadillac’s counterpunch will be.
The finger in the dike appears to be the XT6 global three-row crossover unveiled at the 2019 Detroit auto show that will be built in Spring Hill, Tennessee, for sale this summer.
The aging truck-based, profit-churning Escalade SUV may be the brand’s flag-bearer, but it’s still a few years away from a redesign. Might the XT6 assume the flagship mantle in the interim, especially as Cadillac strives for global relevance?
“Escalade is an aspirational vehicle but is too large for much of the world,” Andrew Smith, executive director of Global Cadillac, said. For many years Cadillac executives have recognized the need for a unibody three-row family vehicle to keep customers from leaving the brand. The urgency for an entry in this segment has grown with low gasoline prices fueling demand for larger utility vehicles in the U.S. and an increasing appetite for SUVs in China.
Enter the XT6, a six- or seven-passenger crossover that rounds out the core lineup. The compact XT4 is in the fastest-growing segment, the XT5 is in the largest segment globally, and the XT6 is a walk-up offering more space and utility for families that don’t need the full-size Escalade.
The XT6 is practical. It doesn’t try to make a broader statement for the brand. Work started before the XT4 was finished; the XT6 was developed with the full range in mind. Executives chose to name it XT6 instead of XT7 “because we don’t see anything slotting between this and the XT5,” Smith said.
It does not replace the CT6 as the tech flagship—for one, it does not have Super Cruise, which provides hands-free driver assistance on the highway. Super Cruise will start rolling out across the Cadillac lineup in 2020—after the XT6 launch, newly minted Cadillac president Steve Carlisle said.
The goal was to tap Escalade cachet with a vehicle from the same C1 architecture as the XT5, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia, allowing it to be made in the same plants in Spring Hill, Tennessee, as well as in Shanghai.
Under the hood, the familiar 3.6-liter V-6 has 310 hp and 271 lb-ft with cylinder deactivation and stop/start capability. It is paired to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission, as opposed to the eight-speed in the XT5. Although it was designed to accommodate additional powertrains, execs are mum for now. Electric motors might not be in the cards. Carlisle pointed to GM’s strategy of purpose-built electrified vehicles such as the Chevy Bolt and Volt.
The XT6 has MacPherson strut front and five-link rear suspension with preloaded springs, and it gets an upgrade from the damping system in the XT5, XT6 chief engineer John Plonka said. Continuous damping is standard on the Sport model and optional on Premium Luxury. As in the XT5, the optional AWD system can be turned off for better fuel economy. A twin-clutch rear axle provides torque vectoring. AWD is standard on Sport, optional on Luxury.  So although the XT6 won’t do Moab, it will tackle the road to the cottage.
To stand on its own, it had to have presence. With the XT6 riding 9.3 inches longer and 2.3 inches wider than the XT5, Smith said it was one of the first times he was asked to make a vehicle taller. All this adds weight, but after much debate it was deemed vital. And although Cadillacs have been notorious for splitting industry-standard vehicle segments in the past, the XT6 sits in the heart of the segment dimensionally.
Designed and engineered in Detroit as a global vehicle, the XT6 had to have its own look and character. Once designers had a clear picture of the target buyer, they dropped the gigantic wheels, whereupon the sketches flowed easily. XT6 is the first vehicle from scratch to adopt the softer, simpler look of the Escala concept sedan from 2016—a divergence from years of hard edges—but it retains signatures such as the vertical light arrangements. The new look resonated in customer clinics, and clay models were sent to China for input.
Cadillac designers placed emphasis on a roomy interior. All three rows had to be comfortable. In China this is often a multigenerational purchase, designed for parents in the front row, children in the second, and grandparents in the back—so the XT6 comes with a choice of two captain’s chairs or a middle bench that seats three.
This seating arrangement necessitates rerouting air vents, allowing for ample head- and legroom for adults in the back, a dual-pane sunroof, and proper acoustics for conversations from front to rear. Seats have a new structure for comfort, and the leather has a new chevron stitch pattern. The front seats are heated and cooled; the second row is heated. Additional second-row cupholders are in a pull-out drawer under a center console, which has separate climate controls. There are outlets to power devices throughout.
Second-row seats pitch, tilt, and slide to access the back row, or you can go between the captain’s chairs. Cargo area buttons flip down headrests and fold the third and second rows completely flat—perfect for that Home Depot run. The well for the spare tire can also store the security shade. Above the well is a storage bin with a cover that stays in position at any angle—handy for tall groceries.
There are two models: Sport and Premium Luxury. Both can be ordered with a Platinum package. Luxury adopts the Escala face more closely with a lot of bright trim. Sport has a black mesh grille inspired by the V Series and more black trim for a murdered-out look. Standard wheels are 20 inches, with optional 21s for Sport.
Inside is a new-look steering wheel and upgraded instrument panel, but the overall appearance is similar to XT5 with some shuffling of how materials such as microsuede, engineered wood, and copper carbon-fiber weave are used.
The next-generation CUE infotainment system bows on the 2020 model with a rotary dial that moves like a joystick, or you can touch the 8.0-inch screen. And yes, there are volume knobs and an 8- or  14-speaker Bose sound system. Connectivity includes wireless phone charging and NFC technology to allow Bluetooth pairing of Android phones with a tap.
Although there’s no Super Cruise, driver-assist systems include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, parking assist, lane departure warning, steering assist, and night vision with automatic high-beam and optional adaptive headlights, which are expected to become legal in the U.S. soon. Haptic safety alerts vibrate the seat.
The first pre-production vehicle rolled off the line in Spring Hill in September. Employees named it Elvis as it left Tennessee for a dealer meeting in Las Vegas. Dealers have clamored for it ever since, Smith said. The Shanghai plant built its first model in December.
The XT6 goes on sale this spring, competing against the Audi Q7, Infiniti QX60, and Volvo XC90. Competitive pricing means it could start anywhere from $45,000 to $55,000 and still slot easily between the XT5 ($42,690–$66,890) and the Escalade, which opens at $76,490.
Relocating Cadillac headquarters to Detroit will help with the launch of the XT6, and there are plans for a new model every six months, Carlisle said. Time in New York was well spent, he said, but “having the makers and sellers in close proximity will only help.”
2020 Cadillac XT6 BASE PRICE $45,000-$48,000 (est) VEHICLE LAYOUT Front-engine, FWD/AWD, 6-7-pass, 4-door SUV ENGINE 3.6L/310-hp/271-lb-ft DOHC 24-valve V-6 TRANSMISSION 9-speed automatic CURB WEIGHT 4,500-4,700 lb (est) WHEELBASE 112.7 in LENGTH X WIDTH X HEIGHT 198.8 x 77.3 x 68.9 in 0-60 MPH 7.7 sec (MT est) EPA CITY/HWY/COMB FUEL ECON Not yet tested ON SALE IN U.S. Spring 2019

Haulin’ with the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST
DALLAS, Texas — My 2017 holiday season couldn’t have worked out better. Chevrolet trucks celebrated its centennial in Dallas with an extensive piecemeal program that incorporated classic drives, riding shotgun with law enforcement at a training center, and an early glimpse of the all-new 2019 Silverado. As part of the program, media were offered the opportunity to drive back to their respective cities in a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe RST.
The sunny shores of Los Angeles may serve as my current stomping grounds, but this writer grew his roots in Texas. My parents and a large portion of my extended family call Dallas home, so this was the perfect opportunity to spend not only the holidays with loved ones, but allowed me to celebrate my dad and my grandmother’s birthday.
There’s something so satisfying about GM’s full-size SUV family. From the Tahoe to the Escalade, there’s a lot to love. With a customer loyalty rate of over 70 percent, these SUVs are four-wheeled multitools. It hauls everything from kids to boats, crosses muddy bogs while cosseting passengers, and remains an ideal road trip cruiser.
For 2018, the Tahoe/Suburban lineup diversifies even further with the introduction of the new RST package. You’ll have to look quite hard to pick an RST out from the dealer lot, considering there isn’t a single RST badge to be found on the entirety of the car. For the keen-eyed among you, keep an eye out for Tahoes that wearing darkened trim with black Bowtie badges instead of chrome.
There’s also a set of more stylish wheels at all four corners, but the RST’s real arsenal is underneath the skin. For the first time, the Tahoe is now available with the 6.2-liter L86 V-8 found in GMC Yukons, Cadillac Escalades, and Silverados. Power is managed by the new 10-speed automatic transmission co-developed with Ford. 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque sent through this quick-shifting box means the monstrously large Tahoe hustles to 60 mph in a shocking 5.7 seconds, enough to pick on those hooligans in VW Golf GTIs.
This means you’re going to be scuttling a little faster than you would in a regular Tahoe, necessitating some extra hardware to make sure you don’t hurl yourself off a cliff. To wit, the RST adds a new performance tune for the standard Magneride magnetic ride control. Unlike the system on the Camaro and Corvette, this is non-adjustable, at least by the driver. It’s an adaptive system, stiffening or softening the ride depending on the situation.
As a final perk, buyers can opt for two dealer added extras that I believe should be mandatory. For extra stopping power, Chevy will slot in bigger front brakes from Brembo. Trust me, they make a large difference with that new 6.2-liter and the bright red calipers look excellent. They will also install a Borla exhaust system right out of the box. It’s not as aggressive as a Camaro SS, but the buttery lublublub is a perfect middle ground.
Despite the working class badge up front, the Tahoe can still be priced out to eyewatering heights. My particular tester was part of the Premier option group, adding a healthy dollop of handy features including keyless access with remote start, power tilt wheel, and HID headlamps. Even so, the $78,000 price tag was a hard lump to swallow without a GMC or Cadillac badge in sight.
Following the Centennial festivities at the Texas Motor Speedway, I surprised my dad in the driveway of our house as he was packing up their RX 350 for a roadtrip to Bentonville, Arkansas for his birthday. The plan was to celebrate his (and my 92-year-old grandmother’s) birthday with a trip to the fabulous Crystal Bridges art museum five hours away.
Unsurprisingly, with the third row folded down, the Tahoe swallowed four people’s luggage with room to spare. My passengers in the second row enjoyed their captain’s chairs, which provided them with plenty of legroom and a valuable dead space between the seats that served as snack central. If they were of the younger sort, an infotainment screen folds down from the headliner of the truck, complete with two pairs of accompanying headphones.
On the way up to Arkansas, it was as uneventful as we hoped. With the semi-sport-tuned Magneride suspension, it’s admittedly stiffer than the regular suspension, but it’s far from uncomfortable. Other unsurprising non-revelations – the fuel tank is sizable, compensating for the 6.2-liter thirst, and the extra power provides quick merging speeds.
Once in Bentonville, the RST continued to play the role of school bus effortlessly. The entire family was a big, big fan of the remote start function, keeping us toasty when temperatures dipped beneath the 30-degree mark.
Museum enjoyed and birthday steaks consumed, we saddled the Tahoe up again for a southbound journey to home. We took the scenic route this time, cutting through the breathtaking Ozark mountains. It was wet and misty most of the way up the snaking hill, eventually transitioning into a full-bore rainstorm by the time we began our descent. Through the drenched swtichbacks, the RST was as confident as a full-size, body-on-frame SUV can be. Cornering was indeed flatter than its model siblings, and the big brakes were a godsend as I hauled the truck down from speed. It’s not as sharp as a Range Rover Sport SVR or a BMW X5M, but it’s not meant to be.
Unfortunately, we overestimated how long the scenic route would take, so we ended up cutting the fun portion short and cutting through myriad tight two-lane highways in Oklahoma and Texas. it was pitch black in the boonies, so the narrow wet roads were treacherous to navigate. The RST was surefooted, and comfortable enough for my passengers, and we made it home safe, albeit a bit grumpy from the long drive.
The Tahoe remained in my control for the following two weeks. I gladly played the family chauffeur, shuttling close and extended family to meals, movies, and visits. It was comfortable, fast, and utilitarian, and most importantly, it made the holiday season perfect.
