CTS: DEAD 💀 ______________________________________ 🌙 [7/3/19] #ACNAfterDark Well the time has finally come, the CTS is officially dead with production ending at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Michigan after 16 years of the nameplate on the market. This means the CT5 production will begin very soon as the indirect replacement for the now iconic American luxury performance sedan. 🌙 [@Allcarnews Spec Sheet] The CT5 is expanding on the whole performance aspect with the new CT5-V packing a 3.0L TT V6 making 355HP and 400 lb-ft of torque paired to a 10 speed auto gearbox and rear or AWD... The upcoming CT5 V Blackwing should get the 4.2L TT V8 600HP from the true CT5 V! Rumors also are hinting towards a manual gearbox option but possibly only on the CT4 V Blackwing🌙 GM has been killing off slow selling sedans as well as cars on older platforms as they pave the way for the big 2025 Modular platform final transition, reducing the current over 20 architectures to just 4 called Vehicle Set Strategy or just VSS-R for RWD, VSS-F for FWD, VSS-S for SUV’s and VSS-T for trucks. ________________________________________ ACN EXTRA: Peace out 2016-2019 CTS-V, you shall be missed. 😢 ________________________________________ - - #Cadillac #CT5V An #allcarnews post #V6 #CT5 #ATS #USA #CTSV #BMW #3series #XT4 #CT4 #hothatch||#powerful #performance #turbocharged #advanced #SupercarsRevamped #Supercar #HyperCar #ItsWhiteNoise #GM #MadWhips #manual #Carstagram #BlackList #AmazingCars247 https://www.instagram.com/p/BzcLZLMBlTy/?igshid=qlpug69funwn

Safest Compact Suv 2020
SUVs are really popular vehicles these days, and the smaller ones are a popular size for buyers, too. Many buyers also have safety high on their must-have list, especially since SUVs are great for transporting families. Carfax recently took a look at some safe small SUVs, and Mazda ranks highly on both the compact and subcompact lists. The 2020 Subaru Forester and 2020 Mazda CX-5 top the list of safest compact SUVs, while the 2020 Mazda CX-3 and 2021 Hyundai Kona lead the list of safest subcompact SUVs.
2020 Subaru Forester
Each year, NHTSA crash tests vehicles as part of our 5-Star Safety Ratings program. In addition, we do verification tests on advanced crash avoidance technology systems in vehicles. Here are the lists of vehicle models selected for each test. Best Safety Rated SUVS of 2020. Best Safety Rated SUVS of 2019. Find a Top 10 List - New Car and Used Car. Most Fuel Efficient. Based on fuel-economy. Auto manufacturers continue to make safety a top priority across all makes and models. Here are the 2020 SUVS that have the best safety ratings according to the National Highway Traffic Safety. The Highlander was all new for the 2020 model year, and it's a good SUV. But that's just it. In a large class full of three-row options, the Highlander falls short of being a class leader.
The 2020 Subaru Forester comes in first on the Carfax list of 16 safest compact SUVs of 2020. The Forester comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of driver-assist features as well as a rear-seat reminder. EyeSight provides adaptive cruise control, advanced adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and sway warning, pre-collision braking, and pre-collision throttle management. Additional safety features, including blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, are options. The top Touring trim also includes additional safety features, like reverse automatic braking and DriverFocus, which helps cut down on distracted and fatigued driving.
The 2020 Forester comes standard with all-wheel drive, providing the SUV with great traction. It also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The 2020 Forester is also an IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick+. It received a five out of five from the NHTSA.

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is second on the list of safest compact SUVs of 2020. It now has adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring standard for 2020. However, the automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection don’t work at speeds higher than 50 mph.
All trims of the CX-5 except the base one come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, allowing for hands-free phone use and reducing driver distractions. The 2020 CX-5 is also an IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick+ and received five out of five from the NHTSA.
2020 Mazda CX-3
On Carfax’s list of the 17 safest subcompact SUVs for 2020, the 2020 Mazda CX-3 came in first. The 2020 CX-3 comes standard with the Mazda i-Activesense suite of driver-assist features. That includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, pedestrian detection, and a head-up display.
The CX-3 does also come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This subcompact SUV is an IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick+. Sophos apple. It also received five out of five from the NHTSA.
2021 Hyundai Kona
Coming in second on the list of safest subcompact SUVs is the 2021 Hyundai Kona. The 2021 Kona comes standard with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver attention warning system. All trims except the lowest one also come with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Skipping up to the top Ultimate trim adds adaptive cruise control and pedestrian detection.
Using Secure Socket Layer, you can establish a secured connection between the client and server. It helps to safeguard sensitive information such as credit card numbers, usernames, passwords, pins, etc. You can make connections more secure by creating your own SSL context using the HttpClient library. Apache httpclient ssl. If you want to use the Apache HTTP client instead of the Java HTTP client, you have to provide to SSLFactory your keystore and configure DefaultHTTPClient to use it in the HTTPS protocol. You can find a working example here. I hope that helps.
All-wheel drive is available but not standard on all trim levels. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all trims of the 2021 Kona. The 2021 Kona is an IIHS 2020 Top Safety Pick. It received five out of five from the NHTSA.
Safest Luxury Compact Suv 2020
Carfax took a look at small SUVs available during 2020, examining ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These ratings along with the advanced driver-assist features included in the SUVs helped determine which compact and subcompact SUVs made the lists. Buyers looking for small and safe SUVs should consider the 2020 Subaru Forester, 2020 Mazda CX-5, 2020 Mazda CX-3, and 2021 Hyundai Kona.

THE TOP 25 MODELS TO COME, ACCORDING TO CAR AND DRIVER
The American magazine Car and Driver recently published its list of 25 models that deserve to be expected over the next few years. We’re going through this fine selection of vehicles with a grain of salt.
Ah yes, don’t think that these 25 upcoming models are the only ones planned for the next 3-4 seasons. Even though the pandemic is currently affecting the entire industry, the automotive world is preparing for what’s next… and the resumption of production as soon as possible!
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 2022
According to the publication, the next level of Corvette is expected in 2022. We can expect a multiplication of versions of the model, which, it should be remembered, now uses a centrally located engine. Over the years, Chevrolet has introduced us to several liveries of the sports car, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the ZR1 badge coming back. For this future Z06, a naturally aspirated V8 engine is probably the solution, while on-road performance is likely to be more spicy.
Porsche 718 GT4 RS 2022
Still in the ultra-sporty segment, Porsche is busy pushing the limits of its most affordable coupe even further. After the GT4, the RS badge would theoretically end the career of this generation of the coupe. The 4.0-liter naturally aspirated 6-cylinder flat-bed engine is expected to be more muscular than ever in this track-ready car.
McLaren 765LT 2021
This “longer” evolution of the 720S (LT stands for Long Tail) has already been unveiled on the web. So we know many details about the final version, because even the pictures are available. What is certain is that the 765LT will certainly be even more formidable than the 720S. Lighter than the 720S, the 765LT will also be more powerful thanks to a 755-hp twin-turbo V8 engine. Its arrival is expected before the end of the year.
Aston Martin Vanquish 2024
Let’s stay in the UK if you don’t mind, as Aston Martin is also preparing a metamorphosis of its entire line-up.
Obviously, the DBX SUV is the number one priority for the next few months, but after that, the British firm’s engineers will have to focus on moving the majority of sports cars to a mid-engine configuration. After the Valkyrie supercar, the automaker intends to market a Vanquish with a turbocharged V6 engine and electric power assist. Yes, even Aston Martin cannot escape electrification.
Maserati MC20 2021
There’s also something new at Maserati, the Italian automaker, which is already working on a mid-engine sports car powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine that could, according to the magazine, surpass the 600-horsepower mark.
And since the Italian firm has already indicated its intention to electrify its entire fleet, it wouldn’t be surprising if the MC20 receives a hybrid powertrain and even a pure electric one a little later in its lifecycle.
BMW i8 M 2024
Despite the mixed success of the BMW i8, Car and Driver believes that the Vision M Next prototype (see photo) presented in 2019 shows what to expect from the i8 replacement.
For now, it is too early to confirm the return of the i8 name, but what is certain according to the publication is that the manufacturer is preparing a sequel to this first exotic plug-in hybrid. And this second opus would be more focused on high performance. However, patience will be needed, because this future BMW, a half-petrol, half-electric vehicle, is expected in 2023 at the earliest.
GMC Hummer 2022
The American giant made a lot of noise earlier this year by unveiling part of the snout of the first all-electric pickup truck for GMC. Not only is this a first for GMC, but the division has chosen to bring the Hummer name back to the market. The manufacturer even announced a 1,000 horsepower and extra-long range.
Competition is beginning to take shape in this niche of electrically-powered pickup trucks.
Tesla Cybertruck 2022
In fact, if there’s one American manufacturer who knows how to attract all the attention to its products, it’s Tesla! And the brand founded by Elon Musk also made a lot of headlines last year with the presentation of the Cybertruck, the most unusual van in history with a triangular design that leaves no one indifferent.
Just like the GMC Hummer, the Tesla Cybertruck promises breathtaking accelerations thanks to powerful engines and very interesting autonomy.
Hyundai Santa Cruz 2021
We’ve been waiting for this one for a long time. Hyundai presented its Santa Cruz prototype in 2015 and its arrival is finally scheduled for 2021.
This first foray by the Korean giant into the mid-size pickup segment will in a way follow the model first introduced with the Honda Ridgeline, the Japanese pickup based on a monocoque architecture, unlike the other vehicles in the category, all perched on ladder-type chassis.
4-cylinder powertrains are also to be expected for the Santa Cruz, which will be positioned as a leisure van rather than a real work tool.
Ford F-150 2021
Speaking of pickup trucks: the world’s best-selling pickup truck is set to receive a light sweep for the 2021 model year, as several make-up prototypes have already been seen on North American roads.
So this is not a design revolution, but rather a revision of exterior usage. Under the hood, several powertrains will be back, but the arrival of a hybrid version is expected, while Ford has already revealed its intention to tackle the electric niche, thanks to the partnership with Rivian.
Car and Driver is also looking into the future of the Raptor, which, with the arrival of the Ram Rebel TRX, could benefit from a supercharged V8 engine borrowed from the Shelby GT500. The Ford F-150 should continue to dominate for a few more years to come!
Jeep Grand Cherokee 2021
The current generation of the 4×4 has been in service since the 2011 model year. Although it has aged very well over the seasons, Grand Cherokee is in need of renewal.
We can expect a few mechanical changes under the hood of the SUV, as well as a new architecture. The Daimler Chrysler-era skeleton will be replaced by Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform. What’s important is that the Grand Cherokee retains its 4×4 status as part of an all-utility vehicle lineup.
Kia Sorento 2021
Earlier this year, the Korean automaker unveiled the new generation of the popular crossover. While the design is evolving timidly, it’s under the hood that the Sorento presents itself in a new light. Indeed, with a hybrid powertrain and two other four-cylinder engines, Kia seems more serious in its approach to taking sales away from the competition.
Genesis GV80 2021
So far, the Genesis division hasn’t really managed to establish itself in the collective imagination with its three sedans, despite the qualities of the latter and the many prizes they’ve won.
Perhaps a superbly crafted crossover will make up for that. The GV80, as its name suggests, is the elevated equivalent of the G80. However, the SUV offers an entry-level 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, while a twin-turbocharged 375-hp V6 completes the lineup. The GV80 also consolidates the brand’s new language.
Lexus LQ 2022
A quick look at the Lexus alignment confirms that the manufacturer is well represented in all segments. Unfortunately, buyers of large SUVs don’t necessarily need a genuine 4×4 like the LX (essentially a dressed-up Toyota Land Cruiser).
That’s where a more comfortable SUV inspired by the LS limousine would fit in. The Lexus LQ would fit into a segment occupied by the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5s of this world and could even aim higher with a livery tattooed with the F badge.
Lincoln Mark E 2022
Ford’s luxury fender has already indicated that it wants to partner with Rivian in the development of a future all-electric SUV. Here, the name is purely fictitious, but as Car and Driver indicates, with an electric powertrain, the name Mark E seems appropriate.
Still, you’ll have to be patient in this case, as his arrival is expected in 2022.
Land Rover Defender 80 2023
To keep up with the current trend for off-road-flavoured utility vehicles, Jaguar Land Rover may be tempted to emulate Ford, which is about to launch the Bronco and Bronco Sport at the same time, the latter being only a scaled-down copy of the former.
Land Rover has just relaunched its legendary Defender, but this model is not for everyone. A Defender 80 (read smaller) could fill the coffers of the brand supported by the Indian giant Tata.
Audi Q4 e-tron 2021
For the past year or so, Audi has been offering its North American customers the e-tron SUV, the vehicle that has recently been joined by the Sportback penchant.
Unfortunately, both of these models are expensive, a detail that could be corrected by a smaller electric crossover. The Q4 e-tron prototype unveiled in 2019 also looks very close to a production model, suggesting that the Q4 – which is based on Volkswagen’s SEM platform – could come along quickly next year.
Alfa Romeo Tonale 2021
If there’s one manufacturer on this list that needs help, it’s Alfa Romeo. Despite the Italian manufacturer’s glorious past, sales figures were simply not taking off, even before the current pandemic.
The arrival of the Stelvio, the brand’s only utility vehicle, certainly helped, but a more urban and accessible model inspired by the Tonale concept would be welcome these days, especially with a hybrid powertrain as promised by the prototype.
Toyota Corolla GR 2022
Rumors have been around for a few years, but it seems the time has finally come for Toyota to add a little adrenaline to its Corolla lineup.
While it’s clear that the Yaris GR introduced earlier this year is a strictly European affair (our North American Yaris is a Mazda2 in disguise), the Corolla could benefit from the Yaris GR’s turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. With 257 horsepower, a Corolla GR equipped with a six-speed manual transmission – and everything needed to keep up with the road – could take a few sales off a certain Golf GTI.
Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing 2021
When GM announced the end of production of the large CT6 sedan last year, many fans wondered what would happen to the new twin-turbo V8 engine also known as the Blackwing. It seems that the 5.5-litre block isn’t compatible with the new CT5 sedan, as Car and Driver claims that this Blackwing variant will be powered by the good old 6.2-litre supercharged V8 previously used in the CTS. Better yet, the publication states that the car will be available with a six-speed manual transmission or the 10-speed automatic unit. Despite the confusion in the nomenclature, this CT5-V Blackwing 2021 is sure to be a track bombshell with 650 horsepower!
Hyundai RM20 N 2023
The Korean giant has already been working on this mid-engine sports car project for several years. And it looks like the idea is about to be approved for series production.
As mentioned by C&D, Hyundai’s senior management is reportedly still studying the option of transferring the project to the Genesis side. However, performance enthusiasts are leaning towards Hyundai, as a car sold under the popular brand is likely to be more affordable than the same architecture at Genesis.
Hyundai might be about to bring back the concept launched by a certain Renault 5 Turbo in the 80s, and that’s very exciting!
Mazda6 2023
Launched in 2013 as a 2014 model, the current Mazda6 was already positioned as a sedan with high-end aspirations. Since then, the manufacturer has been constantly looking to raise the level of its vehicles, as if it wanted to move to the luxury side. The next 6 could even come to play in the big league, as it’s rumored that the car will be equipped with a 6-cylinder inline-drive and even a rear-wheel drive architecture. Any questions?
Acura TLX Type S 2021
All indications are that the next Acura TLX will be decidedly more competent on the road than its predecessor. The current TLX isn’t bad, but it lacks that spark to worry the class leaders. Chassis work and a new twin-turbo V6 engine should contribute to a little more passion for this long-awaited return of the Type S badge.
Nissan 400Z 2021
One of the oldest cars on the road is a Nissan. The 370Z was launched in 2009, which explains its slightly more archaic driving experience. With Nissan’s economic and financial turmoil, the addition of a niche sports car is certainly not the brand’s priority at the time of writing, but for Nissan’s fame, the rebirth of the mythical Z is necessary.
The Infiniti Q60’s twin-turbo V6 engine is expected to be the chosen engine to power the 400Z, while it’s likely that buyers will still have the choice between a manual transmission or an automatic unit. As for design, it’s rumored that the next Z will be largely inspired by the original 240Z. It looks promising!
Ford Fusion Active 2022
The manufacturer of Dearborn has abandoned the traditional car in North America, with the exception of the Mustang and the Fusion which persists for a few more months. However, it seems that the brand’s decision-makers want to tackle the Subaru Outback with an elevated wagon based on the Ford Mondeo.
It should be remembered that originally, the Ford Focus Active was supposed to cross the Atlantic, but this project finally fell through. This Fusion Active could correct the situation and bring a so-called car back to the continent, despite its utility side.

GM is working on a hands-off advanced driving system for city streets
GM has a “big team” working on an advanced version of its hands-free driving assistance system Super Cruise that will expand its capability beyond highways and apply it to city streets, the automaker’s vice president of global product development Doug Parks said Tuesday.
GM is also continuing to improve its existing Super Cruise product, Parks said during a webcasted interview at Citi’s 2020 Car of the Future Symposium.
“As we continue to ratchet up Super Cruise, we continue to add capability and not just highway roads,” Parks said, adding that a separate team is working on the hands-free city driving product known internally as “Ultra Cruise.”
“We’re trying to take that same capability off the highway,” he said. “Ultra cruise would be all of the Super Cruise plus the neighborhoods, city streets and subdivisions. So Ultra Cruise’s domain would be essentially all driving, all the time.”
Parks was quick to add that this would not be autonomous driving. Advanced driving assistance systems have become more capable, but they still require a human driver to take control and to be paying attention.
“What we’re not saying is that Ultra Cruise will be fully autonomous 100% of the time, although that could be one of the end games,” Parks said.
Parks didn’t provide a timeline for when Ultra Cruise might be available. A GM spokesperson said in a statement after his interview that the company continues to expand its hands-free driver assistance system technology across its vehicle portfolio and has “teams looking at how we can expand the capabilities to more scenarios.”
GM said it “does not have a name or anything specific to announce today, but stay tuned.”
This new Ultra Cruise feature would put it in competition with Tesla’s Autopilot advanced driving system, which is largely viewed as the most capable on the market today. Tesla’s “full self-driving” package, a more capable version of Autopilot, can now identify stop signs and traffic lights and automatically slows the car to a stop on approach. This feature is still considered to be in beta.
GM’s Super Cruise uses a combination of lidar map data, high-precision GPS, cameras and radar sensors, as well as a driver attention system, which monitors the person behind the wheel to ensure they’re paying attention. Unlike Tesla’s Autopilot driver assistance system, users of Super Cruise do not need to have their hands on the wheel. However, their eyes must remain directed straight ahead.
GM has taken a slower approach to Super Cruise compared to Tesla’s method of rolling out software updates that gives early access to some owners to test the improved features. When GM launched Super Cruise in 2017, it was only available in one Cadillac model — the full-size CT6 sedan — and restricted to divided highways. That began to change in 2019 when GM announced plans to expand where Super Cruise would be available.
GM’s new digital vehicle platform, which provides more electrical bandwidth and data processing power, enabled engineers to add to Super Cruise’s capabilities. In January, GM added a feature to Super Cruise that automated lane changes for drivers of certain Cadillac models, including the upcoming 2021 Escalade.
This enhanced version of Super Cruise includes better steering and speed control. The improved version will be introduced starting with the 2021 Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans, followed by the new 2021 Cadillac Escalade. The vehicles are expected to become available in the second half of 2020.

Future of Cadillac Is Electric-Only Vehicles With Real Names—but not Jolt!
Most, if not all, Cadillacs sold globally will have real names—not alphanumeric names—and be electric vehicles by 2030.
The transition from vehicles powered by internal combustion engines to sedans and crossovers running on battery power will cover the gamut from small cars to Escalade-sized SUVs, says Cadillac President Steve Carlisle.
All electric vehicles will have real names, but GM will not add Jolt to its portfolio that has included the Chevy Volt and Bolt, Carlisle promises MotorTrend. We can expect some alliteration in the future names, but they will not all start with the same letter, which is another industry naming trend.
The Escalade name will be kept in some form, but a new full-size electric SUV expected in a couple years could have a different name, Carlisle says.
At a media briefing in Detroit, Carlisle says Cadillac is wrapping up the first phase of its 10-year rejuvenation plan which focused on expanding the portfolio to fill in gaps in its crossover lineup and introducing new sedans. The icing on the cake is the 2021 Escalade, the fifth generation of the large SUV, which will be shown for the first time at an event on February 4.
Cadillac has spent $12 billion on phase one and enters the next decade with one of its strongest slates of vehicles, covering 94 percent of the market—up from about 64 percent. In other words, Cadillac now has a full roster and is ready to put some points on the board, Carlisle says.
On the utility side, there is the XT4, XT5, XT6, and Escalade. On the sedan side, the new CT5 started shipments to dealers this week and the smaller CT4 will follow next year. Both are 2020 models, but they will have a short model-year run. The refreshed CT6 remains in the lineup for now, with enough inventory to last another year. Production of the CT6 at the Hamtramck plant ceases in February.
But Cadillac’s ultimate future is one of pure electric vehicles, so vehicles with combustion engines will be phased out over time and replaced with electric counterparts.
“It is the end of the ICE age for Cadillac,” says Carlisle. The brand will be in a position to be 100 percent electric by the end of 2030.
The first electric crossover will be available in China in 2021, and the North American version will go on sale by the end of 2022. GM showed a concept of that crossover in January. They will be fruits of GM’s new electric vehicle architecture that will produce a battery-powered pickup truck in the fall of 2021 at GM’s plant in Detroit-Hamtramck.
GM plans to debut 20 new electric vehicles globally by 2023. Cadillac takes the lead because the luxury brand can better absorb the higher cost of the technology, and there is more demand among luxury buyers.
Overall, can Cadillac get back to where it needs to be? “Absolutely I believe it can,” GM CEO Mary Barra tells MotorTrend, pointing to the XT4 that entered a crowded small crossover segment and was a sales leader in the U.S. within a few months. She sees positive signs for the brand in the U.S. and globally.
Carlisle says global sales through the third quarter are up 8.8 percent, and in China, the world’s largest auto market, they are up almost 11 percent. Cadillac should end 2019 with another record global sales year, despite lost production due to a lengthy strike in the U.S.
Barra is pleased with Cadillac’s reception in China where consumers have not lived Cadillac’s history and don’t share concerns that some Americans have from the brand’s past. “It’s a bright spot in China with how well it’s doing in the luxury segment.”
While China presents the greatest opportunity, Barra says GM will continue to build the brand in the U.S. in a disciplined fashion and dealers are excited about new product, with a new vehicle launching every six months.
Despite the popularity of crossovers, Barra sees the importance of cars and likes the positioning of the new CT4 and CT5 sedans. “We do think luxury cars are a bit different than the mainstream market in the United States. Clearly cars are important in other markets around the world.” Even though crossover demand in China has hurt car sales, it is still a huge car market, especially in the luxury segments, she says. “It’s important to have the right representation.”

Oshawa-built Cadillac XTS scheduled to end production in October 2019 Cadillac XTSHandout / Cadillac When General Motors' Oshawa, Ontario plant stops production of vehicles and switches to parts only, a few different models will be getting the axe, including Cadillac's aging XTS. According to a union bulletin published May 9, the Cadillac XTS will cease production in October, along with the front-wheel-drive Malibu it shares a platform with. The XTS has been around since 2013, when GM needed a big, cushy sedan to fill its lineup of otherwise non-traditional Cadillac vehicles. The best sales year for the luxury four-door was its first, when it sold 32,559 units in the U.S. and 787 in Canada. Sales have been declining sharply since, as buyers turn their attention away from sedans and toward SUVs. Cadillac's CT4 and CT5, which are being introduced for the 2020 model year, will replace the XTS; the cars will also take the places of the ATS and CTS, which will stop production after 2019, too. The XTS was also a favourite for livery companies, with a stretch limo and hearse being developed. Information about whether or not the CT4 or CT5 would be adopted for livery companies has not been shared. The Oshawa plant also handles the production of the previous-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, both of which will also get the axe at the end of 2019. As was previously reported, GM's Oshawa plant will be shifting production to parts only, and most of its 2,600 employees will either be transferred to other GM facilities, or be

2021 Cadillac Escalade to Debut February 4 in Lead-Up to Oscars
General Motors can’t wait to show the world the fifth-generation Cadillac Escalade. The world premiere is set for February 4 in Los Angeles, in the lead-up to the Oscars, with events planned all week. We can expect to see celebrities roll up to the red carpet on Oscar night in shiny new, blinged-out 2021 Cadillac Escalades and four minutes of new commercials to air during the televised awards event.
As for the new Escalade itself, GM CEO Mary Barra is a personal fan of the vehicle that has become the jewel of the luxury brand.
“It’s kind of in a class all to itself and that’s why I’m so excited for people to see how we’ve taken Escalade to the next level,” she tells MotorTrend in an interview. The technology and styling will make the Escalade an even more significant vehicle in a segment where GM is already strong.
Cadillac President Steve Carlisle says the Escalade will end 2019 as the top-seller in its segment by a wide margin, even though the current generation is ending its run.
The competition is strong, especially the new Lincoln Navigator. Can the new Escalade (rendered by MotorTrend above) blow it out of the water? “I’m very confident about the next generation of Escalade. Let me just put it that way,” says Barra. She says the Escalade is “a vehicle somewhat unique into itself.”
“Yes, there are many competitors coming into the segment, but I think Escalade has a special place and will again exceed people’s expectations with the next model,” she says. “It’s iconic.”
Spy shots have revealed a giant grille with a family resemblance to the new CT4 and CT5 sedans. There are promises that the interior design and materials will be dramatically improved.
There will be more than one powertrain, including an updated version of the 6.2-liter V-8. Early plans to give the Escalade the 4.2-liter twin-turbocharged Blackwing V-8 engine were shelved. Performance or V versions of the Escalade are expected to have a version of GM’s 6.2-liter supercharged small-block V-8. Spy shots have revealed paddle shifters on the steering wheel for the first time in the Escalade.
The SUV was developed on GM’s huge T1 truck program that underpins light-duty and heavy-duty pickups for Chevrolet and GMC as well as full-size SUVs for Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac. Now that we have seen the 2021 Chevy Suburban and Tahoe, we know that the utility vehicles receive a new independent rear suspension to improve ride and handling characteristics and make better use of the interior space, providing a flat floor and more room for people and cargo.
The Escalade will also have Cadillac’s Super Cruise technology, the hands-free cruise control system for highway driving. Super Cruise will come out a few months after launch, but still within the 2021 model year.
When Super Cruise is added to the Escalade and the 2021 models of the CT4 and CT5, it will be able to do more, such as lane changes, and the number of miles of highway on which it is mapped for use continues to grow, says Carlisle. The improvements are in both hardware and software.
As Cadillac goes full electric over the next decade, there will be a battery-powered large SUV similar in size to the Escalade but built on GM’s new electric architecture. It is still a few years out, and while Cadillac will keep the Escalade name, the electric counterpart may get a different name, Carlisle says. And it will be a real name, not alphanumeric.
Barra would not provide further details on the electric vehicle. “We’ve said we believe in an all-electric future, but beyond that I’m not going to comment.”
As Escalade leads the Cadillac portfolio, how important is the CT6 as a flagship sedan in a truck world?
Cadillac is redefining its lineup and what constitutes a flagship, Barra says. The CT6 retains importance, largely due to its tech, the Blackwing engine, and Super Cruise. “I’ve never seen a feature on a car have so much customer interest,” says Barra of Super Cruise. “Over 90 percent of customers are saying, ‘I either wouldn’t buy another car without this or I would strongly prefer it.’ Rarely do you have that strong of a reaction.”
The CT6 remains strong in China and is built there for the domestic market. Asked if the CT6 could become a China-only product in the future, Barra said she continues to evaluate what the market wants and needs and what makes sense over the long term.
For now, there are orders to be filled and enough inventory to sell the CT6 through the end of 2020 in the U.S. GM will stop building the recently refreshed CT6 in the Hamtramck plant next month. GM could decide to shift assembly to another plant, such as Lansing Grand River that makes the CT4 and CT5 sedans. “We can look at what makes sense,” Barra says.
