I’m willing to write imagines for underage characters so long as there's no romance (examples: hang out with the Losers Club at the barrens; go shopping with Eleven and Max; play baseball with Finney and Bruce). I’m allowed to deny any request and the longest I should take ever to write one is about 2 weeks. I’ll write smut, fluff, angst, poly relationships, LGBTQ+, etc. Generally most of my x readers are female unless stated otherwise.
What I won’t write-
I won’t write anything to do with rape, bestiality, necrophilia, incest, romance with anyone younger than 18, gun play, anything about poo(sexually), anything about urine(squirting is fine considering it’s not technically urine), age gaps. See guidelines for more details.

It’s time for CPN. 🎟️
first, thank you to xiao laoshi for making this thursday extra special with his exposed knees and fabulous hair. and well, that face. he can do no wrong. next day is btf premiere and wyb is expected to attend BIFF ( red carpet starts at 5:30 ) so we will most likely have another meltdown.
continue reading for more clownery ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Well let’s start with what we do best, over analyzing the photos they share and the numbers as well. XZS posted GG’s Gucci set and the most obvious observation is that he uploaded 18 ( yi bo ) photos with the 2nd and 8th ( love bo ) colored as red. you know, ZZ’s favorite and the color associated with love. no big deal.
You can say it’s for aesthetic reasons cause 2 and 8 in red will look good in the 9 grid, but there’s one more thing with the 8th photo. 8 = bo. It’s a split photo, on the left is a photo of a place. and yes they did that before in the Milan sets but those are a couple. I’m so proud of myself for noticing that this is the same place that makes an appearance in Hidden Blade. Which also takes place in Shanghai.
it is a landmark, yes. but he is not promoting the city of shanghai 🤦♀️. He is there for Gucci. why can’t he add a photo of the venue itself? interpret this however you want but it’s something that personally made me go 👀. a scene from HB + red + the number 8. i cannot not clown over it. 😂
Also the last photo shared from both studio photosets are of their backs. It’s the 18th ( yi bo ) for ZZ, so is he copying someone? Lol. We know that “yibo’s back photos” are popular among fans so i’m wondering if ZZ is bias towards it too.
Now for ZZ’s weibo post:
What we noticed is a photo, that looks like water and fire. Which reminds us of their NYE stage themes in 2019. The blue eyes reminds us of a photoshoot Yibo did and the colors. doesn’t really matter if they mean what we think it does — the point is, this fandom have so many symbolism/association over the years and it shows up over and over.
My favorite would have to be XZ reminding us all that he is a Libra. Yes we know. and well GUCCI + Libra design also has some CPN history ( hint : weibo night 2020 ) 😌
Over at Yibo-Official’s side, they probably noticed how loud they are with the ♥️. yesterday, so they were more lowkey today. Their douyin post was shared 20:33 ( love zhan zhan ). I admit i was kinda bummed out that WYB had to leave early for Beijing. He wouldn’t go there if he had no participation in BIFF program. Because his usual MO for events is arrive the same day and then leave as soon as his part is over. So I think this “one day” is for him to prepare for whatever it is he will do for BIFF. I could be wrong. I just want them in the same city. 🥺🥺
Lastly, Happy 5 year anniversary to the BJYX Supertopic! I have so many good memories of that space and it’s only right that it gets to be celebrated. It’s nice that it falls on BTF release so people can get together and the eve of it is GG’s gucci event so it’s all positive vibes ✨⭐️

Calling the vote a day early BUT! August 20, get yourselves ready for Jennifer's Body!
What?: Jennifer's Body is a cult classic that has not just turned into an objective icon ahead of it's time, but a staple on the queer horror genre specifically.
Jennifer and Needy have been biffs for ages. Their relationship takes a turn after a tragedy at an indie-band's performance, and a botched ritual in the woods.
Why should you see it?: Beyond the mark it has left on queer culture, Jennifer's Body is something that shows how mismarketing can kill a film before it's prime. The writing by Diablo Cody is cutting, the direction by Karyn Kusama (hey! that's a Yellowjackets name!) is precise, and the acting of both Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried is amazing despite this being their first dip in the horror pond.
(Kusama and Fox answering an audience question at Beyond Fest 2019. by Jordan Crucchiola for Vulture, October 1 2019)
Some warnings!: People get killed on screen, sometimes in a slightly gore-y fashion. This is the time of decent CGI, and the film makes use of it. Some scenes can be interpreted as SA. Though known for its quips, some jokes may not have aged well.
When?: Sunday August 20 at 10PM/22:00 CEST!
Link to the kosmi room will be shared ~20 minutes in advance

Kylie Minogue to release 'euphoric' album Tension via BMG in September
https://www.musicweek.com/labels/read/kylie-minogue-to-release-euphoric-album-tension-via-bmg-in-september/087875
Kylie Minogue has confirmed details of her new studio album, Tension, which will be released on September 22.
The album continues her successful relationship with BMG, who helped Kylie Minogue secure No.1 peaks in the UK with her two previous studio albums, Golden (2018) and Disco (2020), as well as the collection Step Back In Time (2019).
According to the Official Charts Company, Golden has UK sales of 166,699 and Disco is on 176,116. BMG managed to grow global streaming on Disco compared to their first release with Minogue.
According to the announcement, Tension is a record of “euphoric, empowered dance floor bangers and sultry pop cuts”, which should delight her fanbase.
Padam Padam, which opens the album, will be the first single to be released from the record.
Kylie Mingoue said: “I started this album with an open mind and a blank page. Unlike my last two albums there wasn’t a ‘theme’, it was about finding the heart or the fun or the fantasy of that moment and always trying to service the song. I wanted to celebrate each song’s individuality and to dive into that freedom. I would say it’s a blend of personal reflection, club abandon and melancholic high.”
Minogue has worked with a number of producers on the album with seven of the tracks being produced and co-written with her long-time collaborators, Biff Stannard and Duck Blackwell.
Discussing the recording process, Kylie Minogue said: "I loved being back in the studio with my collaborators but was also able to benefit from remote recording, which we have all got used to – my mobile studio never left my side for a year and a half! The album is a mix of songs I have written and songs which really spoke to me. Making this album helped me navigate challenging times and celebrate the now. I hope it accompanies listeners on their own journeys and becomes part of their story.”

Now that you pretty much wrapped up the Baby Saga, I have to ask a question. During your original Dragon Ball GT Retrospective in 2019, you said that Baby is actually a good villain once you ignore that nonsense with the Machine Mutants and the Luud Cult and it seems like you changed your mind on that. Is Baby really a good villain or is he only a good villain in comparison to the other GT villains?
Let me put it like this: Baby is a good villain in the sense that he's thoroughly evil, and he has a consistent motivation to do evil things, and he also represents the opposite of what the hero represents.
I mean, he basically hijacks the whole world, and turns everyone into a population of slaves who adore him. He takes Goku's relationship with the Earth and flips it on its head. Now Baby is the Earth's hero and Goku has to fight against his adopted planet to defeat him. Baby doesn't train to get stronger. Instead he uses the strengths of others, like how he took over Vegeta's body and used the others' powers Bulma's scientific genius to enhance it.
There's also no depth that he won't stoop to. He fights dirty. He picks on defenseless enemies like Pan. He attacks, betrays, and abandons his own followers without a second thought. Baby is either a perversion of everything the Tuffles stood for, or he's actually what the Tuffles stood for, which is pretty chilling to consider.
And he's basically in a position where he has to be this vile, despicable menace. The Tuffles created him to take revenge and Tuffleize the universe. He can't just blow that off and become a farmer. He has to control other people's bodies and infect people with his eggs, because that's the only way he can achieve his goals. The closest he ever comes to doing anything noble is when he decides to kill Goku face-to-face, instead of taking over his body like he did to the others. And that turns out to be a huge mistake, since it allows Goku the opportunity to defeat him.
So he's a solid villain. He is not one of these mythical "good ideas" that GT apologists like to talk about. Baby's whole deal is just a mashup of past Dragon Ball villains.
He's a Tuffle doomsday weapon, like Hatchiyack.
He mind controls the entire population of Earth like Garlic Junior.
He's a Saiyan-hating autocrat, like Frieza.
He was created in some sort of incubation tank, and had to develop into his "perfect form", like Cell.
He uses Vegeta to achieve his goals, like Babidi
He uses the Oozaru form to turn the tables on Goku, like Vegeta.
He absorbs the powers of others to get stronger, like Majin Buu.
A lot of the Machine Mutant stuff is very reminiscent of Meta Cooler from Movie 6.
Again, it's not a sin to re-use ideas from other characters. I'm a firm believer in "Talent borrows; genius steals." The trick, though, is that you have to repurpose the ideas you take and disguise them like something original.
For example, the Androids Saga in DBZ was heavily inspired by the Terminator films. That's no secret; one look at Trunks' haircut and 16's everything should give it away. What makes it unique, however, is that Toriyama didn't just do a shot-for-shot retelling of the Terminator movies. His villains were created by a human scientist (Dr. Gero) instead of a supercomputer (Skynet). While the Terminators were relentless killing machines skilled in infiltration, most of Gero's assassins weren't even interested in killing their target, and they didn't even try to be subtle. All 17 wants to do is joyride in an ice cream truck.
Then you have Cell, who seems like he has more to do with Cronenberg movies than the Terminator franchise. He's an unexpected bad guy from an alternate future, kind of like Biff Tannen in "Back to the Future II," but he has all the powers of strong characters from the past, kind of like Serpentor from G.I. Joe. Did Toriyama swipe ideas from those stories as well? Maybe, but somewhere along the way, he ended up combining so many things together that he wound up with something original. The parallels are still there for critics to notice, but no one's filing lawsuits over 17 and Cell, because it's understood that they're distinct, unique characters, even if they were inspired by other works.
Baby's problem is that his creators just swiped ideas from just one property: Dragon Ball. And that's a terrible way to go about it, because the target audience is already familiar with Dragon Ball, so every time Baby does anything, the viewer is going to recognize it as something they've seen before in the same show. It makes Baby look rather authentic. You see him do stuff and he looks like he belongs in this franchise, because it's consistent with what you've seen before. But none of it is innovative because he's not doing anything new.
Now, if they had cast a wider net, and been a little more clever about it, Baby could have turned into something truly special. Suppose the writers had borrowed ideas from the 90's Batman movies, or "Knight Rider" or literally anything else. You'd have to do a lot of tinkering just to make it fit in to a series like GT, and that's where the creativity comes from. Then, when Baby does something, it's not going to be exactly like a time Frieza or Vegeta did something similar. He'd bring his own unique flavor to it. He'd whip out a gadget from his talking utility belt, and it'd be totally fresh.
I think this is why I like the concept of the Tuffles in general a lot more than I like Baby specifically. When I saw Kamin and Oren in Super Dragon Ball Heroes, I was thrilled, because it looked like someone had taken the Baby IP and done something genuinely fun with it. I think there's a mission in one of the games where Kami and Oren Tuffleize the planet Sadala in Universe 6, and you have to fight all the mind-controlled Saiyans to liberate the planet. It's basically the Baby Saga on a different location, but it still sounds a lot more appealing, because it's not saddled with Baby himself.
I sometimes think of trying to do stuff with the Tuffles in my fanfic, but I've never been able to come up with a good angle for it. There's a good story to be had from the Baby lore, but it's not the Baby Saga itself, because I just finished watching it, and it's a mess.
And I guess that's the trouble with Baby. Is he a good villain? Yeah, I think he clears the bar. Is he a great villain? I don't know if I'd go that far. But good? Sure, especially if you separate him from all the bullshit before his debut. But he's a good villain based on unoriginal ideas, and the execution was thoroughly botched. It's like if Tommy Wiseau put Dracula in "The Room". It doesn't matter how good a villain Dracula is, he's not going to come across well.

31 Days of Horror
Last Horror Movie You Saw in Theaters
Happy Death Day 2 U (2019)
Directed by Christopher Landon
Starring:
Jessica Rothe
Israel Broussard
Phi Vu
Rachel Matthews
Ruby Modine
Suraj Sharma
Having survived the farcical but utterly life-threatening events in Happy Death Day (2017), the feisty sorority sister, Tree Gelbman, finds herself in the same college dorm, thankful to be alive. However, this time, it's Carter's roommate, Ryan, who claims that he is reliving the same paradoxical day over and over again, as a mysterious paranoid killer in a single-toothed baby-faced mask with a big kitchen knife has made a habit of murdering him. Under those circumstances, a valiant but vain attempt to face the challenge, once more, will send Tree back to square one, trapped in an all too familiar and blood-drenched time loop. How many deaths separate Tree from a truly happy birthday.
Obviously this was the last movie I watched in theaters, it opened earlier in 2019 but I was also working at the casino at the time and I didnt have time to do anything throughout the year. So once 2020 hit, I ended up staying home and streaming every other movie that I missed out on.
I loved the first movie because it was similar to Groundhog Day and they make mention of that in the movie. But in this movie they change it up for sci-fi ish and throw in a little Back to the Future references here and there.
Kill Count according to Dead Meat on Youtube: 20
Favorite Tree Death: After watching her current boyfriend from the end of the first movie smooch with his new girlfriend, and Tree's nemesis, she decides to go for skydiving without any parachutes and in bikini. She jumps out from the plane and times it land right in front of the happy couple while pausing to throw both her middle fingers out at the audience.
Like in the first film where Carter announces the story bearing similarities to the plot of Groundhog Day, he establishes the similarities with this sequels' plot to Back to the Future Part II (1989). There are also some small nods to the film, like the wood chipper being from "Biff's Tree Removal", and also a clock tower scene.
The film was released in the United States on February 13, 2019, by Universal Pictures. Critics praised Rothe's performance, as well as the film's shift to a more sci-fi tone, although some noted it as derivative of the first film. It grossed $64 million worldwide against a $9 million budget. A third film, Happy Death Day to Us, is in active development.

ria give me the time travel rant (please)
Ok time travel rant (@legitcookie this is for you too!)
There are two ways to do time travel correctly: Loop or Alternate Universe. I have yet to see another version that makes logical sense, and a combination of the two (explained later in this post) has never made sense to me.
But maybe I just haven't seen enough media with time travel.
The Loop method can be best explained (unfortunately because I can't find a better example) by Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The characters run into their past selves doing their past actions, and the timeline does not fundamentally change. Time travel actually facilitates the correct order of events. It's as if time is a straight line, and the alternate path (resulting from the characters going into the past and experiencing the same progression of events) is a looped branch. It branches off at one point, runs parallel to the original timeline, and reconnects back, without breaking the timeline.
Make sense? I hope so, but I doubt it. I'm tucked into a corner of the room, furiously typing before I have to take notes.
The Alternate Universe method can be best explained by Avengers: Endgame. In this method, we assume that time is completely and utterly linear. The characters can't go forward or back in their same timeline. They can, however, travel to other timelines and other points in time. They can't go back to the past to change their past, but they can go to another universe's past and take whatever they need to rectify their present in their timeline. Timelines exist on their own planes, and the characters hop back and forth between lines, but they always land in their present on their line.
(I'm aware that this makes the end of Avengers: Endgame make no sense. I've been salty about this since 2019.)
So, as for that combination of a Loop and Alternate Universe that makes no sense? Back to the Future. I love Back to the Future. I know it's the quintessential time travel movie.
The logic doesn't hold up.
Originally, we assume that Marty goes back in time on his own timeline (a la the Loop) to fix his parents' meeting. However, the timeline gets changed when George punches Biff, and when Marty goes back to his time, he's greeted by a very different set of parents and siblings. By itself, that's fine. We can assume that Marty went to an alternate universe and stayed there (even though that leaves the question of what happened to that universe's Marty McFly, since his new parents and siblings recognize him.)
But that doesn't happen by itself, since Doc uses the letter to warn himself that the terrorists are going to kill him, and we see Marty from the beginning of the movie take the Delorean and travel back in time, which he does in that first universe. So, we're left to assume that it is a Loop, but it can't be a Loop because the timeline is changed.
So, which is it? Loop or Alternate Universe? Who knows! Not me!
Anyway, that's my time travel rant. Please tell me your thoughts because I love discussing it and theorizing new interpretations!

This Month In History - November Part 3
This is quite a month for pop culture anniversaries. For Part 1 read here and for Part 2 read here. Here is Part 3:
Nov. 21, 1979: The Raincoats released
In Nov. 1979, the debut album from The Raincoats was released. The British band's mix of art rock and post-punk, made this album highly influential, especially for Kurt Cobain, who sung their praises. This is an album that is worth every single inch of the praise it has received over the years, and then some. I out and out love this album. Here is my album review I did for the anniversary edition in 2019. Happy 45th The Raincoats!
Nov. 22, 1989: Back to the Future Part II opens
In Nov. 1989, the second installment of BTTF was released. It's amazing how much about the future it got right, i.e. Cubs winning the World Series a year later, a Trump-like Biff who owns everything and never gets caught because of his money and power, and hoverboards. Here is my piece I wrote in 2014. Happy 35th BTTF2!
Nov. 22, 2004: How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb released
In Nov. 2004, U2's 11th album was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2014. Watch for my album review of the new 20th anniversary edition. Happy 20th HTDAAB!
Nov. 23, 1999: Midnite Vultures released
In Nov. 1999, Beck's 7th album was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2014. Happy 25th MV!
Nov. 23, 2004: With the Lights Out released
In Nov. 2004, Nirvana's rarities box set was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2014. Happy 20th WTLO!
Nov. 24, 1999: Toys Story 2 opens
In Nov. 1999, Pixar's sequel to Toy Story was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2019. Happy 25th TS2!
Nov. 25, 2009: Me and Orson Welles opens
In Nov. 2009, Richard Linklater's nostalgic look back at theater during the radio era was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2019. Happy 15 MAOW!

Okay, so I lied (unintentionally) in my last Goose post. There is, in fact, another great video of another great jam from the Thekla show. I think I forgot about it because it's not twenty-five minutes long.
Anyway, this will be the first time but certainly not the last time I do a write-up on a version of "All I Need." This song has been a jam vehicle in the heart of Goose sets since I started listening in 2019 and, while it's taken a backseat in more recent days to newer, shinier songs, any time it does get played you can count on it to at least take you on a nice trip around the block, though occasionally it will instead drop you into the heart of a black hole (this version is more the former than the latter). If I can make a Phish comparison (because, in my imagination, it serves the audience I pretend reads these posts), it's sort of analogous to how "Down With Disease" fits into the Phish catalog these days: old, once-great warhorse that's still good for high-quality if not necessarily mind-bending jams.
One more thing you should know about this song before we jump in, especially because it's something that'll be very relevant when I write about the Goosemas "Mirror Planet" set soon: "All I Need" has two different arrangements. I don't think I've written about this yet, but one of my favorite somewhat unique things about Goose when I first got into them was that they had multiple songs that were played in different ways on different nights. The first example of this that I was aware of (and also the clearest example) is the difference between the songs "So Ready" and "Slow Ready."
As you can probably intuit from their titles, these are the same basic song (same lyrics, melody, chords, etc.) but the "original" version is played fast, while the "alternate" version is played (you guessed it) slow. If you check out the videos I linked, or you already know the songs, obviously the differences between "So Ready" and "Slow Ready" are a bit more extensive than just changing the song's tempo, but they are also definitely different takes on the same general idea. There are also multiple arrangements of the songs "Tumble," "Indian River," "Atlas Dogs," and of course "All I Need"...as well as others that I'm sure I'm forgetting off the top of my head.
The alternate-versions-of-songs thing is important here for two reasons. First, I think it's cool as a way of injecting variation into shows, both for me as an audience members and (I assume) for the band, who clearly don't want to play the same songs the same ways every night. It's fun to go to a show knowing you might get to hear the rare, "slow" version of "Tumble," or that if you hear "So Ready" one night you might hear "Slow Ready" the next. Second, it's worth knowing before we jump in that the Thekla version of "All I Need" is the slow version. If you're interested in the differences, there are, helpfully, studio tracks of both versions!
As usual, I'm not going to go on and on about the composed part of the song here, since that's more or less the same for every take on the song (slow vs. fast versions aside). It's a Goose song, so I'm partial to it. If you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose, I'd say I like the fast arrangement better, but the slow one has become the default over the last year or two, and it's good, too. I do particularly like the mid-song piano break in the slow version, though Pete mildly biffs the transition into it in this version.
The piano solo segues into a solo from Rick, who quickly changes keys at 4:27 to lead into a longer jam (this seems to be a sort-of planned key change that the band has been executing here in a lot of recent versions of this song). I don't have a good enough ear to tell you exactly what key this is, but it seems chosen to lead to a darker, more contemplative type of jam space, at least initially. The lights are a good complement to the jam as the rhythm section holds down a foundation for Peter and Rick to slowly build on top of.
I feel like the last few jams I've covered on here have been really Rick-centric, so I'm happy that in the first few minutes of this jam, Peter's keys are a bit more prominent.
At 6:34, Rick starts alternating (I think: again, not the best ear here) between two different keys (or at least modes), introducing some tension between the early, darker space of the jam and something more uplifting. The differences between the two spaces and the precision with which the band starts switching between them once everyone gels is really cool: this isn't necessarily the most spectacular jamming I've heard from Goose, but it's something I don't hear them do very often, and that's my favorite thing about this version of "All I Need": not every jam is going to be the Best Jam Ever, but getting to hear something new at every show is what I buy tickets and drive across states hoping for.
At 10:25, the band finally stops to hang out in the more blissful space for a bit longer, and this is maybe my favorite part of the whole jam. Peter is the highlight for me, laying down washes of reverb-drenched notes, but Rick's phrasing is bonkers, and the whole rhythm section is locked in. I know there are a lot of fans out there that don't find Trevor's playing to be dynamic enough, but I completely disagree and in moments like these in particular really appreciate his ability to know (to engage in an (in)famous paraphrase) what notes not to play.
We rip back into the aggressive side of the jam at 11:19, and while I can't complain about what it basically Goose's take on a 90s "Slave To The Traffic Light" jam, it would have been great to get more of that reverb-y vibey goodness...
...but I digress. This last transition leads smoothly back into "All I Need" proper, and they wrap up the song from there.
One of the many things I've really appreciated from Goose in 2023 is their increasing ability to get really deeply into really engaging improvisation quickly: in past years, nearly all of my favorite jams have been twenty-plus-minute monsters, but this year I'm finding just as many ten- or twelve-minute jams that are worth listening back to. I think this "All I Need" (and most other versions from this fall) is a great example of that.
Next time: "Hot Tea" from London!

Thanks for reading❤️

The global recycled plastics market size was valued at USD 47.60 billion in 2022 and is expected to exhibit grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.9% from 2023 to 2030. Increasing environmental concerns, rapid urbanization & industrialization, and the rising need to reduce the carbon footprint in the manufacturing of virgin plastic resin are expected to drive the demand for recycled plastics over the forecast period. The demand for recycled plastics is expected to increase mainly in the packaging application, which includes packaging of processed food & beverages, medical, electronics, and various other products, owing to the growing number of COVID-19 positive cases.
The demand for medical & healthcare products has increased owing to the safety and hygiene required to tackle the pandemic situation. Amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for electrical & electronic products, such as laptops and mobiles, has increased as companies are following the work-from-home model and educational institutions have shifted from classroom learning to online classes. Thus, the growth in the demand for electrical & electronic products is expected to drive the market over the forecast period. The regional market of Asia Pacific is anticipated to register the fastest growth rate during the forecast period.
This growth can be attributed to various factors, such as the presence of supportive government initiatives like Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-dependent India), rising number of manufacturers operating in the electrical & electronics, automotive, and textile industries, and increasing R&D investments by private as well as public organizations for the development of new applications for recycled plastics. In addition, various electronic products and automotive components manufacturing companies have started looking toward India for establishing their manufacturing facilities post-COVID-19 pandemic. What are the expectations of most Korean companies going into ACFM this year? Most of them must be desperate to sell their films and content overseas as the domestic market is still not very good — we have only recovered 60% from the Covid‑19 pandemic damage. But this year we expect to see the sales recovery up to almost the same as 2019. As the industrialisation slogan goes, exports are the best way to survive.
What are the main challenges facing the industry? The Korean film industry is in a dire situation. Almost 100 unreleased films are blocking new films from getting financed, resulting in there being fewer than 10 new films in production in the first half of this year. We worry that the number of new productions will decrease even more in the second half. Together with government officials and industry people, we are eagerly seeking various ways to overcome the crisis and revitalise the film industry. We hope to announce a specific supporting plan before the end of this year as soon as we succeed in bringing in IPTV (internet protocol television) companies to finance films.
At BIFF, KOFIC is launching a book titled When East Meets East: The Emerging Asian Co-Production Landscape. If that is a trend, how will KOFIC initiate closer collaborations with Southeast Asia and Taiwan, which have been reaping the benefits of co‑productions? Korean filmmakers were not very interested in co‑production in the past since the domestic market was good enough. Why bother? But it’s a different story now. As the ecosystem of the local film industry, which collapsed during the pandemic, is slow to recover, they must look for other ways to make films. KOFIC’s co‑production support stopped a few years ago because of the lack of interest from filmmakers. We need to resume it as soon as we secure enough budget from the government.
The good news is that next year’s budget for location incentives has been increased almost five times compared with this year as a response to the requests from overseas and local filmmakers. A critical factor in the sustainable development of the K-movie industry is enhancing international collaboration, and co‑production is the core of it.
How will KOFIC mark its 50th anniversary at BIFF? There will be several events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of KOFIC and to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the opening of KAFA [Korean Academy of the Arts, founded by KOFIC], including a forum on ‘50 years of KOFIC’ and an exhibition titled ‘Looking back at Korean cinema through advertisements’. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korea-US alliance, KOFIC and MPA are hosting a Korean-American film night.
France’s CNC and KOFIC will host a forum titled ‘How to vitalize co-production between France and Korea, focusing on a case study of Return To Seoul’; AFAN (Asian Film Alliance Network) has a roundtable on ‘Enhancing co-operation within AFAN countries’; and there is the book launch of When East Meets East: The Emerging Asian Co-production Landscape.

'Dear Jinri' bears witness to late K-pop singer's truth
BUSAN, South Korea
A new documentary featuring a late K-pop star's final interview unveils complex truths about South Korea's notoriously brutal music industry while highlighting her defiance of pressure to conform to societal norms.
"Dear Jinri", which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, revolves around singing star Sulli's last Netflix project, an unfinished film that included an in-depth interview.
Born Choi Jin-ri, Sulli took her own life in 2019 at age 25, after a long struggle with online bullying. The interview in the film -- raw, powerful and heartbreaking -- has never been previously seen.
What Sulli shares in that conversation raises "many critical issues in our society," director Jung Yoon-suk said after the film's BIFF screening Saturday evening.
"These can be seen as issues related to women, or they could be problems concerning the vulnerable in our society, or related to matters of equality," he said.
Sulli, who began her career as a child actress at age 11, made her debut in 2009 for f(x), which quickly became one of K-pop's top girl groups.
Known for behaviour considered controversial in South Korea -- including refusing to wear a bra in public -- she faced relentless online bullying and was frequently targeted by sexually abusive comments.
The film also explores the singer's lonely childhood and battles with self-perception as a woman in a world that can be intensely focused on appearance.
"Since you are born as a pretty woman, you don't have to know anything," Sulli says she was told.
But, she adds: "It's obnoxious to say your life was hard because you are a pretty woman."
The well-documented pressures of the K-pop world are also spotlighted, with Sulli explaining how she was told her goal was to be "the highest quality product".
She likens her experience to that of the protagonist in Luc Besson's 1990 "La Femme Nikita", who undergoes rigorous and vicious training to become a programmed assassin, completely cut off from the outside world.
It seemed as if people "couldn't recognize that we were human beings", Sulli says in the film.
The interview is punctuated by frequent pauses as the camera lingers silently on its subject, the pain and sorrow palpable on her face.
Audible sobs from the audience could be heard throughout the screening.
Suicide is the leading cause of death among South Koreans aged 10 to 39 and occurs at an unusually high rate, official figures show.
Several other young K-pop stars have died of suspected suicide in recent years, including Goo Hara, Jonghyun and Moonbin. The incidents have prompted calls for increased mental health support for young people in the industry.
Sulli's response to director Jung's question about the online bullying she endured -- specifically, her decision to grant legal forgiveness to one of the perpetrators -- is arguably one of the most poignant and revealing scenes in the movie.
She also candidly discusses feminism -- a topic still controversial in socially conservative South Korea -- saying she "rooted for women who spoke out", even when their views did not align with hers.
In the end, the film paints a portrait of a contemplative, resilient figure who, in the ways she could, resisted the pressure to conform, striving instead to forge her own understanding of the world and her place in it.
The film takes its title from Sulli's legal name, Jin-ri, which means truth in Korean.
"It was incredibly important to view this person not just as a celebrity or an idol, but as someone who possesses self-awareness as an artist," Jung said. "It seemed like the movie would be meaningful as the truth itself, just as (her) name implies."
