BMW 530e xDrive: 5 Series plug-in hybrid soon with all-wheel drive worldwide
With the BMW 530e xDrive, the range of the Munich plug-in hybrids has been enriched with yet another variant: for the first time, the 530e is not only available with two engines, but also with four driven wheels. Some markets, like the US, already had the xDrive in their lineup, but the rest of the world will get the 530e xDrive this Summer. Just like the rear-wheel drive 530e, the xDrive model also focuses on the combination of four-cylinder gasoline engine and electric motor.
Both variants of the BMW 530e G30 will use the fourth generation lithium-ion batteries from BMW i as of July 2019. The new battery surpasses the previous model with a gross energy content of 12.0 kWh, with the same footprint, by almost 3 kilowatt hours. The result is a much wider electrical range, making the 530e a real alternative for even more customers.
BMW 530e iPerformance
The rear-wheel drive BMW 530e comes with the new battery amounting to an electric range of up to 64 kilometers, exceeding the previous model by more than 30 percent. The range indication depends on the selected equipment and is somewhat worse, for example, for models with M sports package and wider tires.
The new BMW 530e xDrive does not make it that far due to the higher friction in the slightly more complex powertrain, but with up to 57 kilometers is still clearly above the previous 530e. Both models take about six seconds to accelerate from rest to highway speed.
A little more patience is needed from all who wait for the BMW 530e Touring G31. The plug-in hybrid station wagon is only a matter of time till is unveiled, with the market launch expected in 2020.

2019 BMW 5-Series
New Post has been published on https://motortrendi.com/2019-bmw-5-series/
2019 BMW 5-Series
Over the past year, the BMW 5-Series underwent a bit of a model shakeup, as Bimmer introduced the 530e iPerformance and the M550i xDrive to the lineup. With the dust still settling from this movement, we expect no notable changes when the 2019 5-Series strikes display rooms.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
2019 BMW 5-Series Design
At this time, we anticipate no changes to the BMW 5-Series’ looks. This shouldn’t come as much of a shock, as the midsize sedan just went through a substantial redesign– big in BMW terms, a minimum of– in 2017. This brought in a bigger body, sharper styling, and a new platform. The interior likewise went through a huge change, getting new looks and 1.2 inches of extra rear leg room.
With the looks carrying on, we likewise expect no changes to the 5er’s standard features. If this proves to be the case, search for it to consist of 17-inch wheels, a moonroof, dual-zone climate control, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, LED headlights leatherette upholstery, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and tons more.
2019 BMW 5-Series Engine
We anticipate the 2019 5-Series to coming in with the same wide variety of powertrain alternatives as in the past. For referral, the base 530 includes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that cranks out 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
Moving into the 530e adds an electric motor to a slightly de-tuned 2.0-liter engine for a total output of 248 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Next up is the 540 with its 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder that produces 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Diesel fans can snag the 540d xDrive and its turbocharged six-cylinder that produces 261 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. And finally, there’s the big-daddy 550 with its 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 that injects 456 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.
2019 BMW 5-Series Safety
Security capabilities are strong in the current 5-Series, thanks to its Top Safety Pick+ ranking from the IIHS. Keep in mind, though, the greatest ranking comes just with the optional Frontal Collision Warning with Extended Collision Mitigation that’s part of the Driver Assistance Plus II package. We expect this to all remain the exact same in 2019.
2019 BMW 5-Series Pricing & Release Date
There is no official word on the 2019 5-Series’ arrival on display room floorings, but we expect to see it in the late summer season of 2018. Provided there are no changes in shop, we anticipate pricing to remain just like the 2018 5-Series, which begins with $53,645 and tops out at $74,895 (location fees included). The 2019 5-Series’ competition will include the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Audi A6, and the Cadillac CTS.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
