Unlike last year, however, the publication is expanding its list of recommended vehicles to 20 (instead of 10 in 2019). Indeed, the magazine’s list this year includes a few additional categories, with the utility segment making up the majority of the models listed, unsurprisingly.

The magazine also considered the safety assessments carried out by the American institute NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). What’s more, the ‘family’ angle of the top 20 requires a test with child seat expert Abbie Patterson. Patterson, owner of the Super Car Seat Geek company, has tested all types of child booster seats in more than 50 car models.

Finally, automotive columnist Rob Stumpf, took the wheel of the vehicles in the child seat test to evaluate braking, steering, acceleration and a host of other parameters.

Mais qu'en est-il de ces acheteurs soucieux de l'image? Ceux qui ont acheté Prius parce que c'était la voiture à acheter à l'époque? Sur le marché américain, beaucoup sont simplement passés à des voitures purement électriques. Pourquoi acheter une Prius et souffrir d'un badge de piéton à l'avant et d'un moteur à combustion interne de toute sorte sous le capot lorsqu'une Tesla Model 3 fait mieux que ça? En attendant, je pense qu'il est sûr de dire que le pari de Toyota sur la Prius il y a plus de près de deux décennies a porté ses fruits. Bien que le modèle lui-même glisse, Toyota a construit un empire hybride sur la petite trappe excentrique qui est devenue une proportion vraiment substantielle des activités du constructeur automobile. Il est certainement tôt pour écrire des nécrologies, mais si la Prius devait mourir pour que les hybrides puissent survivre, je pense que Toyota serait très bien avec ça.
