2017 Maserati Ghibli Review
Say “Gib-lee”. It is the name of an African forsake wind and the ideal name for a warm Italian car. With its scrumptiously bended lines, the 2017 Maserati Ghibli look is perfect with what’s in the engine. The essential setup is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter 345-torque wheel, V-6 and back; S form of 404 hp control and discretionary all-wheel drive. Both motors are furnished with an eight-speed programmed.
The inside requirements more lovely materials, however this betray wind is a much needed refresher in a world overwhelmed by German cars.
Any individual who has served a gourmet feast arranged in a rush will comprehend the new Maserati Ghibli. The meat has not absorbed marinade sufficiently long. The sauce is not totally open. Gave way blowing.
What’s more, for this celebration, which is practically total, the kind of individuals who can hear a dollar charge dropped on a cover of hair will be solicited to pay the mass from a hundred substantial. There might be resistance.

Blending wiener to advertise before they have totally vanished has for quite some time been a standard strategy for Italian salomerie. His modest creator keeps on being a piece of the testing and improvement group (otherwise called the proprietor of the body) for the Lamborghini-36 years after the dispatch of the auto. Also, for quite a long time, Maserati was another joke that affirmed the run the show.
Be that as it may, subsequent to going through the hands of a few land proprietors in the lap of Fiat Chrysler, the possibilities of 2017 Maserati Ghibli have never been something more. The brand needs to dramatically multiply its worldwide deals in 2015, to 50,000 units for each year, with a blast of new items.
The arrangement of assault started with the updated Quattroporte a year ago and proceeds with now with the new Ghibli, which is fundamentally a short wheelbase Quattroporte. Afterward, a SUV shows up utilizing comparative equipment. While this most recent model is still being developed, we need to send an earnest interest to administration to back off and chill out.
To figure out which things are an exceptional Maserati, what are the qualities expected to urge clients to stroll in a phenomenal blossom plant extravagance items from premium brands to choose an auto producer from the Biturbo.

2017 Maserati Ghibli Inside Outline and Uncommon Elements
Since it beyond any doubt is not the data and stimulation unit average fallen angels of the Dodge Charger. On the other hand, a drive framework that deserts amongst sit out of gear and full power. On the other hand, the seats that will be Christmas come right on time for chiropractors.
On the off chance that Maserati’s desire is to be more than the warm twist of the Ghibli bears his name, the organization must face these issues now while as yet having his finger on the reset catch of the brand.
A large number of the Ghibli propose an inordinate surge, beginning with his name, which appears to have sufficiently stole Giugiaro’s two-entryway, 1967-1973 two-situate gem. Regardless, the new auto ought to have been named for the later Kyalami, a 2 + 2, which was additionally an abbreviated Quattro Porte.
In any case, that is a little grievance. All the more critically, the style is not sufficiently enthusiastic. The extents of Ghibli back convertible summon the past Q’porte as well, yet are performed in considerably heavier and easier terms, particularly in the back third, where the hips require liposuction.
The back is anonymous to the point that it will be mistaken for any number of Asian contenders. On the off chance that a Maserati is not the most lovely auto in its portion, what is it?

All things considered, this is the length of a CLS Benz or Audi A7, however its wheelbase is significantly longer at 118 inches. You get a substantial trunk of 18 cubic feet out of the arrangement and a generally huge extent of 21.1-gallon fuel tank (you’ll require it), yet the back seat tenants shy of legroom.
Italian auto proprietors have endured a considerable measure on the grounds that the protestations from the driver’s seat travelers were so fantastic, however here the Ghibli falters, as well.
The front seats have focal segments that vibe like cowhide wrapped around the mahogany boards. What’s more, these boards project, which dependably pushes out of the seat and let your upper back and bears hanging unsupported. Following 60 minutes, our back was spastic.
Following seven days, it builds up a specific deadness of it, which thusly permits your thoughtfulness regarding the front. The outline of the lodge is basic, with fanatics of calfskin upholstery and substantial sections of carbon fiber highlight emphasize.
This is on account of it is ruled by the 7-inch touch-screen thin-film transistor (TFT) that changes many capacities regularly took care of with genuine catches, situate warmers in the control of the virtual back windows catches. Before you can do anything, be that as it may, including conforming the lodge temperature, you should “acknowledge” the attorney’s notice. It was five years back.

Similarly, as with all other Chrysler items that handles this material framework for everything from Grand Cherokee dash, route screens are nonexclusive Garmin-down to a similar gay “Where?” Button find in Nuvi units the deal at Walmart.
The processor is moderate, so the zoom outline time to re-try it. What’s more, what reason can Maserati give for not giving a control support like an Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, or even a Mazda? Critical note from Fiat Chrysler: “The charger has none” is not a reason that will fly with these purchasers.
The lodge photos superior to anything what it feels or works in pragmatic utilize. A non-all-extravagance plastic entryway covers the glass holders, which are estimated no bigger than a 12-ounce container of pop. The inside support has an additional profound bowl, at any rate the base of which are glass holders too little in size.
A decent association with the controlling haggle is conceivable through many spots, yet the two huge simple meters are constantly loaded with thick edge. Among them is a multi-data screen that shows straightforward advanced speed control, and turns into your yield when measured in day by day utilize.
2017 Maserati Ghibli Motor Execution and Fuel
Utilizing modest parts to spare cash in a way that is avoided the client is an artistic expression. VW-Audi have nailed; Maserati-Chrysler not so much, but rather with motors are at any rate significantly nearer.
The twofold turbo 3.0-liter V6 Ghibli piece starts its life as the aluminum kick the bucket cast Chrysler in Kokomo, Indiana, plant, yet its direction rapidly redirects less appealing duty obstructs as it moves abroad for Ferrari’s grounds Maranello for machining and get together with Ferrari-cast heads.
Once the skin is set up, the little V-6 of 404 torque can make this auto truly move 4649 pounds, despite the fact that its work gives a craving to 18 mpg for the premium. At the opening, there by the four tubes start to bark in America, and the quick changes are joined by a similar effect blast of a buzz-F430.
The Ghibli gets at 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and the fourth in 13.4 seconds at 105 mph, scores strong for such a substantial auto. We saw 175 mph in the enormous oval.
On the off chance that you take manual control of the eight-speed ZF programmed transmission through expansive metal guiding segment cutting edges, you may never have anything besides adore for the Ghibli powertrain. Keep the motor at a steady breaking point and the turbo slack is nearly non-existent. The amusement closes when the trans is left in programmed mode.
It moves to the following level and a conservative framework at low speed, so the clock drops and everything is rest unless you put in the Sport mode, hindering the eighth speed is not exceptionally awesome for day by day driving.
At the point when speed is required, things are to wake up moderate. Tap on the auto with a large portion of the quickening agent and not a lot happens. Nailing it and time passes, while the trans gives three speeds and fabricated the energy. On the off chance that you take a gander at the open street path alongside your stop, goose, much sooner than you hop or hazard being hit from behind.
It was then when you perceive how little 3.0-liter auto is in a two-ton in addition to. Our adaptation Q4 four-wheel drive S and had the force of 3.0 liters. Envision 345 hp form of this motor on the back of Ghibli. It’s win or bust with this motor, the “all” of its concession, very tremendous.

The collaboration features Thomas on the vocals and Santana playing some crunchy grooves on the guitar. According to Rolling Stone, Thomas and the band American Authors wrote "Move" for Thomas's own upcoming album. However, Thomas asked Santana to add a guitar part to the song after recognizing it had a Latin flair. "Rob was working on it and wanted to know if I would play on it," Santana said. "And as soon as I heard it, I said, 'This is a powerful summer song.'" Thomas then allowed Santana to have the song as the lead single for Blessings and Miracles. Santana and Thomas previously teamed up for "Smooth" in 1999. The song stayed a No. 1 in the U.S. for 12 consecutive weeks and won three Grammys, including the Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
L.A. Guns have announced a new album titled Checkered Past. The band also dropped a new single from the upcoming album, titled "Knock Me Down." Checkered Past is the third consecutive L.A. Guns studio album to feature guitarist Tracii Guns and singer Phil Lewis, following 2017's The Missing Peace and 2019's The Devil You Know. Rush drummer Neil Peart's collection of classic cars fetched $3.9 million in an auction last weekend. The automobile collection, dubbed "The Silver Surfers" by the late musician, were auctioned by Gooding & Company as part of their 17th annual Pebble Beach Auctions. A 1964 Aston Martin DB5, a 1964 Shelby Cobra 289, a 1970 Lamborghini Miura P400 S, a 1965 Maserati Mistral Spider, a 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8-Litre Coupe, a 1973 Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS Coupe and a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window Coupe were the seven cars that were up for bid. The Laborghini 1970 model fetched the highest price of $1.325 million in the auction, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. The '64 Aston Martin did not sell as the bids for the vehicle did not reach the reserve price set for sale.>>>>"The title ... occurred to me while driving the DB5 up and down the Pacific Ocean. Because it felt right to me, I guess - the idea that I was just one of the wave riders" the drummer once wrote as to why he dubbed the collection as "Silver Surfers."It was during one of these drives when out of nowhere, it just occurred to me that the color of the ocean had influenced the silver palette of the collection. What other color looks as good in a blue photo? Not black, not white - silver. And a fortunate risk for the framers' art, too: silver frames."

Maserati Refreshes Ghibli for 2018 With New Face, Updated Powertrain
Maserati put the Ghibli under the knife for 2018, refreshing its entry-level sedan to keep pace in the hyper-competitive segment. This is the first time the Ghibli has been updated since its introduction in 2013, and it comes with a raft of changes that extend beyond the new face. The 2018 Maserati Ghibli wears redesigned front and rear bumpers, along with new LED headlights and different grille. This new profile is lithe, improving aerodynamic efficiency by an impressive seven percent when compared to the older model. Powertrains received some attention as well. The top twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine now puts down a hearty 424 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, a gain of 20 hp and 22 lb-ft. This is enough grunt to shove the rear-wheel-drive Ghibli S from 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds and the all-wheel-drive S Q4 in 4.7 seconds. Both only run out of breath when they hit a top speed of 178 mph. Electronic power steering is new for 2018, making the Ghibli the first Maserati with the technology. There’s a new suite of driver assist features as well, including blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control. For when you turn off the main interstate and onto some curvy backroads, there’s a new Integrated Vehicle Control traction system to keep things on the straight and narrow. Model packaging has been streamlined as well, with two trims now available. The GranLusso predictably focuses on comfort, incorporating cosseting interior features like Ermenegildo Zegna silk upholstery. Pick the new GranSport trim and the exterior and interior will reflect a more aggressive and sporting character with unspecified changes. Pricing has yet to be revealed for the 2018 Maserati Ghibli, but expect it to be a touch more than the 2017, which stickers at $72,850. 2019 Update- Analysis Of Turo Rental Activity In the Philadelphia Area via /r/cars
2019 Update- Analysis Of Turo Rental Activity In the Philadelphia Area
I had posted this last year and a lot of people seemed to find it interesting, so I figured I'd post an updated version. Turo hasn't gone anywhere in the past year, and in fact, continues to grow. I was curious as to just how lucrative this could be, so I started scraping Turo data last year. Not sure if I'll make the jump, but the data is interesting nonetheless. It's clear that even in humble Philadelphia, a lot of people are making real money renting either their car, or a fleet of cars they own explicitly for this purpose. I'll restate my disclaimer that I don't work for Turo, I'm just a geek who now has a lot of data on it, haha.

Maserati profit slide, lack of new products is a headache for Fiat Chrysler CEO Manley
Maserati needs new products such as the Alfieri that was unveiled as a concept at the 2014 Geneva auto show. MILAN -- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' slumping Maserati business is a headache for new CEO Mike Manley after the brand’s profitability and vehicle sales went into a steep slide. Manley has blamed the luxury unit’s problems partly on mistakes that saw it managed "almost as if it were a mass market brand." Maserati's earnings plunged 87 percent to 15 million euros in the third quarter. The brand's global vehicle shipments fell 19 percent to 8,800 while its profit margin dropped to just 2.4 percent from 13.8 percent in the same quarter last year. The brand’s targets are for 14 percent margin this year and 15 percent in 2022. FCA's decision to bundle Maserati with its Alfa Romeo marque under a single leader was a mistake, Manley told analysts on the automaker's third-quarter earnings call on Oct 30. "With hindsight, when we put Maserati and Alfa together, it did two things. Firstly, it reduced the focus on Maserati the brand. Secondly, Maserati was treated for a period of time almost as if it were a mass market brand, which it isn't and shouldn't be treated that way," Manley said. FCA last month named its chief technology officer Harald Wester, who previously led the brand from 2008 until 2016, to head Maserati. Wester “has a good understanding of the luxury market and a deep understanding of Maserati as a brand,” Manley said. One of Wester’s first moves has been to recruit a seasoned executive in ultraluxury sales and marketing from Ferrari, Jean-Philippe Leloup. He was previously head of Ferrari's business operations in central and eastern Europe and will lead a new organization called Maserati Commercial, Wester said in a news release on Monday. Maserati has also been hit by the recent slowdown in the Chinese market and new WLTP emissions standards in Europe hit the brand. Former FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne’s 2014-18 business plan for Maserati envisioned full-year vehicle sales of 75,000 units in 2018. On June 1, the target was revised downward to 50,000. With vehicle sales down 26 percent to 26,400 in the first nine month, even the lower full-year goal is likely to missed by a wide margin. Maserati would have to ship 24,000 cars in the October-December period, one-third more than the record 18,237 shipped in the fourth quarter of 2016. {{title}} {{abstract}} Read more > {{/content}} Max Warburton, an analyst with Bernstein, wrote in a note to investors that "Maserati looks broken — a 2.4 percent margin in Q3 is better than Q2. The business — and its volume, pricing and distribution plans — surely need a rethink." Product famine Felipe Munoz, an analyst with JATO Dynamics market researchers, said Maserati's main problem is the lack of new products and the lack of a regular cadence of launches. Maserati's first SUV, the Levante, is now two years old and competes in the large premium SUV sector, the only SUV segment that is not growing, he said. Its sales are not helped by the fact that rivals such as the Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE have all been renewed, Munoz said. The Maserati Ghibli, left, and Levante are pictured at the 2017 Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz. Maserati's sponsorship of upmarket activities such as the sport of Polo help to strengthen its premium positioning, he said. According to FCA's 2014-2018 plan, Maserati was supposed to add three models to the current lineup: the Alfieri coupe and convertible, replacing the GranTurismo and GranCabrio, and a sixth specialty model. None of them have been launched. FCA's latest 2018-22 plan includes the two Alfieri cars, plus the addition of a midsize SUV and the electrification of the product range. No specific launch dates have been given. Without new products, Maserati relies on the Levante and Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans, with demand faltering for all three. Manley told analysts that what has been done so far "will be followed by some further action we will take in the fourth quarter. It will take at least two quarters to sort through some of the channel issues, but I’m expecting Harald and his team to make some significant progress beginning in the second half of 2019." Analysts questioned whether the 2022 margin target of 15 percent for Maserati is achievable. "I have no reason to believe that Maserati can't achieve that with what I'm seeing today," Manley said. http://www.autonews.com/article/20181117/COPY01/311179997/maserati-no-new-products

Unmistakably things have changed in the extravagance showcase Lexus and Acura when they get a wide range of consideration by new game court Maserati provocative while concentrating on extravagance vehicles and even moan, a SUV.
A current (and eager) arrangement for worldwide deals development has left the roadster just the games of Maserati, an extensive tourism appropriately called the GranTurismo, generally disregarded while the car Ghibli and Quattroporte and the SUV Lift come first.

Be that as it may, the arrangement is working up until now: Maserati deals have soar as of late, and the fast approaching landing of the new Levante must keep the great circumstances going.
Things being what they are, presently that Maserati has extended its range, it’s at last time for another games car, isn’t that so? False. A cut of the cutting edge is as yet sitting out of sight while the full-estimate extravagance car Quattroporte experiences the working space for its mid-cycle redesign, with the Ghibli average size before continuing.
In spite of the fact that this move up to 2017 leaves the frame and the remarkable motors of the autos, it incorporates striking changes that go past the visual overhaul.
Tuning of the transmission point and new materials as goal to accomplish a more noteworthy refinement and a progression of new dynamic security gadgets put at any rate the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte in the same mechanical discussion contenders of the German organizations as the modified sound BMW 7 arrangement and Mercedes – Benz S-class.
2017 Maserati Quattroporte Italian as Pavarotti
Try not to feel that these amendments did nothing to temper the notably Italian character of the Maserati. The Quattroporte remains a rich auto, more lively outside than anything in its fragment, with the exception of the Jaguar XJR.
In the slopes of Sicily, his answers were clear for a car of this sort (the Quattroporte measure 207.2 inches in length, one inch over a progression of 7), because of a firm suspension that keeps the body developments intently observed. Particularly in the V-8 with Quattroporte GTS motor took us the vast majority of the day, the bearing is especially scrumptious: It is overwhelming, yet not all that much, and gives a decent measure of street reaction.
The V-8, a 3.8-liter biturbo unit making 523 pull and 524 pound-feet of torque, creates a melodic soundtrack and smooth power conveyance all through the rev go. Maserati says that it has quickened the progressions of the programmed transmission ZF of eight speeds; The kicks were really executed and the throttle reaction was fast as we stacked up the mountain streets and passed the moderate speed Fiat raise windows on the road.

2017 Maserati Quattroporte Price
The Quattroporte S Q4 four-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, representing very nearly 60% of Quattroporte deals in the US, is not as overwhelming and fulfilling the GTS. The conveyance of the V-6 is less quick and the lighter motor in the front implies that its administration does not feel so very much associated with the street.
In spite of the fact that the 3.0-liter twin-turbo motor with 404 pull and 406 pound-feet of torque offers considerably more prominent push to the regatta, and its bigger motor tenor rating component is so rich and agreeable that the profound V-Of 8.
For about $ 35,000 not exactly the SMT, under the dynamic duty V-6 Quattro Porte does not include an excess of – but rather once more, a Maserati ought not be exorbitant?
2017 Maserati Quattroporte Conflicting Messages
Despite motor decision, the Quattroporte is a six-figure auto (the cost has not been declared yet, but rather ought to be somewhat higher than the active auto cost $ 101,700). He sees the outside, as well; Its recharged front puts forth a more grounded expression with a more unmistakable grille and extra chrome trim.
The back appears to be more nonexclusive yet appealing 14, 21 inch wheels (standard on the new-for-2017 GranSport review) and the swoopy side surface Maserati give an unquestionable nearness.
Not the very same story within. Yes, there are some ergonomic improvements for 2017, including the expansion of Apple auto autoplay and Android capacities. There is likewise another turning control handle behind the shifter, which includes a data and amusement repetition framework with touch screen welcome (basically a bigger variant of the Chrysler Uconnect interface).

Also, yes, Maserati utilizes extravagance materials doubtlessly, for example, cowhide, silk embeds accessible Ermenegildo Zegna, and either genuine carbon fiber or distinctive wood trim contingent upon the alternatives.
Be that as it may, many remain quirks. An uncommonly shallow focal reassure may not have the capacity to oblige some cell phones. The front of the bigger glass touch screen is a magnet for fingerprints of unattractive fingers. Huge metal move cams make it hard to get to the joined motor/wiper shaft that, coincidentally, is the same as the one found in a Jeep Cherokee.
Also, that is by all account not the only inside space that Quattroporte laud proprietors perceive when other Fiat Chrysler occasion items: windows switches, begin catch, front light control catch and show screen of the instrument group The CAF holder goes separate ways.
Inside rooms of this quality are not quite recently passing the exam of any Audi, BMW or Mercedes-Benz, and they are not deserving of an auto that can cost more than $ 150,000.
2017 Maserati Quattroporte Another Intriguing Option
But then, we can absolutely observe the interest to tell your neighbors that the new vehicle car in their carport is known as a 2017 Maserati Quattroporte. Maserati says his customers are searching for something other than what’s expected from the German foundation’s offer, and the particular character remains the most grounded resource.
In any case, these protests inside and the accentuation on sportsmanship about solace implies that make a relinquish for restrictiveness and claim to fame. It is a promise that some will make, however it is flawed arrangement of needs in the extravagance vehicle portion. Presently, shouldn’t something be said about this side Maserati sports roadster?

Italian Ice: Exploring Maserati’s Winter Driving Program in the 2018 Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte
COURMAYEUR, Italy – Ask for Fillipo when you get to Maserati’s Ice Proving Ground in Cervinia, about 88 kilometers (55 miles) away from this ski resort town. He’ll let you turn off the traction and stability control, all the better to slide one of the two Maserati Lavantes around this tight track in the Aosta Valley, just on the other side of the Swiss border from Zermatt.
Free rein lets you handle the studded Pirelli Scorpion-shod Levante around the snowy 900-meter (about 0.56-mile) track like a semi-pro rally driver, taking care not to slam the SUV into the tall snow banks sandwiching the carved-out track, or into the other Levante at the figure eight-ish’s convergence, as that other vehicle on the track may be lapping slower with all its nannies on if Fillippo is not its driver’s minder. At least, that was the case when I rallied ‘round the circuit.
You can hang out the tail for a near-perfect drift around the second ice circle. Choose manual control and paddle the gears, and you’ll mostly stick to second, with a few short spurts in third. Then it’s up the short-shoot to the left-hairpin leading to the start-stop line, a hairpin I never nailed on my four laps of two runs, Fillipo noting that I had tried turning in too early on each attempt.
Few Maserati owners and enthusiasts on the 2017-18 Winter Tour slid the automaker’s cars much at all the Winter Tour, which had finished up when auto journalists were let loose to do their worst. The 2017-18 Tour took a small fleet of Maserati Levantes, Quattroportes and Ghiblis to the ski resort towns of Courmayeur and Ortisei in Italy, Gstaad, Crans-Montana and St. Moritz in Switzerland, Saalfelden, Austria and Baqueira, Spain. Appropriate for the brand, the St. Moritz Winter Drive coincided with the Snow Polo World Cup, which as its name suggests, involves polo ponies on snow.
It’s impossible to separate the Maserati Quattroporte, Ghibli and Levante from their country of origin stereotypes as somewhat rascally, care-free alternatives to their Mercedes-Benz and BMW counterparts. Like Jaguar and Cadillac, Maserati is now an upstart competitor issuing a fresh challenge to proven and staid Benzes and Bimmers.
I didn’t take the Quattroporte or Ghibli on the Cervinia Ice Proving Ground. Instead, I drove the sedans on narrow, twisty mountain roads outside Courmayeur, with a coffee stop in the charming mountaintop town of Castello, and then back down toward Courmayeur but stopping in the Medieval village and the castle Fort di Bard, which for our group of over-our-budget auto hacks included a lavish lunch that lasted nearly as long as the drive. There are no bad meals, and very few quick ones, in Italy.
My drive partner and I were lucky to draw the only Maserati Quattroporte Gran Sport for the drive from Courmayeur to Castello. It’s the one with the 530-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-8 and comes with rear-wheel-drive only, which seems an anathema for snow- and slush-covered roads. This reinforces what we already know: all you need are winter tires. In this case, they’re Pirelli Scorpions—unstudded, unlike the Ice Proving Ground Levantes’.
With dynamic control in “sport” and paddle shifters engaged, the QP’s stability control allows for nice, gentle tail-slides as you straighten the car coming out of the hairpins. The new-for-2018 electronic power-assisted steering stiffens up in “sport,” feeding in a bit of road grain-feel into the wheel, but on the mountain roads there was no noticeable difference in the suspension stiffness in these turns. The Quattroporte is a big, powerful autoroute-pounder like the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series, and delivers its 530 horsepower very smoothly, with nearly imperceptible upshifts from its eight-speed ZF automatic. Even with its crisp steering and minimal understeer, the QP feels like a car with size that must be reckoned with in these parts.
Maserati says 80-percent of Quattroportes sold worldwide (about 35,000 last year) are either the sporty high-trim RWD GranSport like my tester or the ultra-lux RWD or AWD GranLusso, both of which were added in a 2017 model year facelift. That facelift included new bumper designs and a grille with active shutters.
Beside the addition of electric power steering, the 2018 model added adaptive full LED headlamps, a new Integrated Vehicle Control system developed with Bosch, and added to the optional Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), highway assist, lane-keeping assist, active blind spot assist and traffic sigh recognition. There’s a nice, subtle Ermenegildo Zegna mulberry silk interior trim option, which includes seat and door inserts. The twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 (not available in the GranSport) gains 20 horses and 15 pound-feet for 430 hp and 480 lb-ft.
Maserati says the Quattroporte’s ADAS system amounts to Level II autonomy, though the car remains, somewhat charmingly, behind the S-Class/7 Series state-of-the-art. There’s no head-up display, for example, and the center-stack controls are far less cluttered than the Germans’. Drive it yourself.
If you want “sport sedan,” whatever that means these days, you must downsize to the Maserati Ghibli, a car that has suffered some not-undue criticism for its Chrysler 300 roots. Whereas the Quattroporte is the paragon of understated Old World class, with rich, subtle woodgrain appliques inside, along with nicely padded touchpoints and high-quality leather, the Ghibli still gets a bit plastic-y at points, especially from the back seat.
But on the roads to and from Castello, its tighter, large-midsize stance really pays off. All Ghiblis available for this Winter Drive were equipped with the 3.0-liter V-6 and AWD, making for some fun runs up and down the mountain road even as one Italian grandmother watched us disapprovingly from the edge of her driveway, just past a switchback’s apex. The Ghibli handles the switchbacks like a much smaller car than the Quattroporte. Maserati’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive standard on the Levante and available on the Ghibli and Quattroporte is 100-percent RWD in most situations, and can switch to 50/50 max in 100 milleseconds.
Model year 2018 Maserati Ghibli changes and updates mirror the Quattroporte’s, including electronic power-assisted steering, adaptive full-LED headlamps, the Integrated Vehicle Control and enhancements to the optional ADAS system, and the V-6 engine’s power and torque upgrades for the Ghibli S and SQ4. The new Ghibli also features a subtle exterior facelift.
After lunch at Forte di Bard, I took a relatively leisurely 52-mile drive back to the Grand Hotel Royal e Golf in Courmayeur from behind the wheel of a Quattroporte GranLusso Q4. To stave off a potential pasta coma, I tried the lane-departure control, which worked as expected, though it was by no means cutting edge. It gently bumps you back into your lane if you edge too close to the markings. Everything feels smooth in these cars.
The next day, a few of us indulged in downhill skiing (well, two snowboarders and me) on Courmayeur, with the much taller Mont Blanc in the nearby background. All but a couple-hundred feet at the top of a 5,118-foot vertical drop was covered in thick fog … let’s just say I could have used some LEDs and a lane-departure control of my own.

Kia at NAIAS 2018: 5 Questions With Master Brand Storyteller Saad Chehab
In one of the standout promotional moments at press days for the 2018 North American International Auto Show, Kia took on Lamborghini—and won. With a cheeky video stunt, that is, which compared the new 2019 Kia Forte with the Lamborghini Aventador. More about that later.
youtube
Its bigger mission at NAIAS 2018—beyond eliciting chuckles from the crowd—is making an impact with a new version of its Forte compact sedan that is crucial for a brand that still relies heavily on providing affordable entry-level and mainstream-priced sedans. The U.S. market has embraced crossovers and SUVs lately, and Kia has entries in those segments including Soul (and yes, the self-loving Soul Hamsters are at NAIAS), Sorento and the new Niro.
Your next big adventure starts here. Say hello to the 2019 Kia Forte sedan. #NAIAS @NAIASDetroit
A post shared by Kia Motors America (@kiamotorsusa) on Jan 15, 2018 at 12:43pm PST
By introducing a redesigned version of its Forte compact sedan Monday at the Detroit auto show, the Korean automaker revealed a larger and more fuel-efficient 2019 model, one that takes design inspiration from the slick Stinger car.
Kia would love the 2019 Forte to be a hit. The model had its best sales year in 2017, which Michael Sprague, COO and EVP of Kia Motors America, said at 2018 NAIAS was “extraordinary for a vehicle in the last year of its life cycle.”
The new Forte, Sprague added, is “bold, strong and ready to rock the compact segment where Kia has been steadily gaining.”
VP of Product Planning Orth Hedrick on the new 2019 @kiamotorsusa Forte: “Forte is for those who love technology.” ‬#NAIAS #Kia #kiaforte

Orth Hedrick, VP of Product Planning at Kia Motors America, said the third-generation Forte is “full of standard features and amenities—and styling, packaging and content to take the category to a new level.” Forte is “compact and nimble” yet taller, longer and wider than before, he said, featuring a longer hood and “a new take on Kia’s iconic tiger-nose grille.” Hedrick also mentioned the car’s “sleek and dynamic styling cues.”
Functionally, the new Forte offers high-beam assist headlights and “functional air curtains” on the outside, for instance, and “more soft-touch surfaces” on the inside as well as ventilated front seats and a 10-way driver’s power seat in one trim level. There’s “better egress and ingress” for passengers than in the current Forte, and “passenger room and cargo room are among the largest in the segment,” Hedrick said.
Which brings us back to Kia’s video that made a tongue-in-cheek comparison between the new Forte and a Lamborghini. When Kia announced at its Monday press conference that it would be comparing Forte to a Lamborghini, many in the assembled hundreds of journalists must have wondered whether the masterminds at the Korean-owned brand had gotten a little too inflated idea of how good the new Forte really is.
The video quickly revealed a tongue-in-cheek challenge with a race-track faceoff between the two models. The doors of the legendary two-door Italian sports car “go up,” the video said, for instance, while the four-door Forte’s “doors go out … like doors, real doors. And it has twice as many.”
Also, the new Forte boasts 15.1 cubic feet of trunk space while the Lamborghini has to fit an engine back there and provides only 5.3 cubic feet. That’s enough room “to fit a small bag—made of leather,” the video quipped.
Forte has an optional wireless-charging station, the video went on; the Lamborghini Aventador does not. Forte seats five, while the Lambo only has room for two “with standing room for three.” And its final swipe: “The Lamborghini does go faster, if you’re into that whole speed” thing. But for the $400,000 that is the price of Aventador, “You can buy a Forte—and a small villa—in Italy.”
For more insights we spoke at NAIAS with Saad Chehab, VP of Marketing Communications at Kia Motors America, about the new Forte and his overall Kia brand strategy. With more than 25 years of automotive industry experience, Chehab joined Kia as its U.S. marketing head in May from Maserati, where he was responsible for growing the brand globally as CMO.
Chehab is a proven master at brand storytelling. Prior to Maserati, he led the Chrysler brand for FCA with award-winning marketing campaigns that put Chrysler back on the map. In those roles, he can lay claim to two memorable Super Bowl spots: Chrysler’s 2011 “Imported From Detroit/Born of Fire” anthemic commercial featuring Eminem and the stunning 2014 Maserati Ghibli ad “Strike” featuring Oscar-nominated actress Quvenzhané Wallis.
Saad, what are consumers telling you about Forte’s segment these days and how does the new car meet those expectations?
It’s an exciting shape that they’re looking for. It has always been known for vehicles at an affordable price but not so much excitement. But we have the design capability to change that and bring excitement back to the segment. Also we have the roominess that people continue to look for. Why look at a smaller SUV versus a car like Forte? It has the room, practicality, safety and technology you need, and you don’t need a ladder to climb into it.
Kia is well represented across both SUV and CUV segments, and sedans. So how do you strategically approach the shift in the market?
You have to be relevant. That’s why we’ve introduced Niro, a new crossover plug-in hybrid. If you’re in the market at the right size with the right vehicle at the same time with the colorfulness of choices and tastes that exist in the marketplace, the majority want sedans.

Hatches are in too, and fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly sedans are hot. Practicality is in. We need to stay with as wide a portfolio as possible to attract folks looking for style in segments that have become a little bit soft in excitement. Forte comes in as a big answer in that big market that still has a lot of market share.
Kia has been ranking No. 1 in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study for the last two years, a huge accomplishment for the brand. What does that enable you to do marketing-wise?
For any brand who has achieved and invested in this, it’s a badge of pride that we have, as an engineering and manufacturing company, produced these great products to share with the world. It’s important for consumers to know that they can put their money into something that they know will be reliable, dependable and the best of the best at a similar price to any other product.
What’s going to be our differentiation? Styling, and a dependability award not given by some ad agency but by the customer. We’re proud of customers’ feedback and want to share it with other customers.
Where did the idea for the Lamborghini “challenge” video you brought to NAIAS come from?
We were filming a campaign for [Stinger, below] a few weeks ago at a track in California, and we were talking about the positioning of the brand as a young brand that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
youtube
The director’s car was a Lamborghini Aventador, and we said, “Let’s do some fun comparisons between the two,” and it became something that we entertained as a way to explain the features of the new Forte by comparing it with a fun brand in a very ridiculous way.
The idea was to talk with people about our product in an entertaining way, a YouTube way, where people are saying, don’t just give me a list of specs, but tell me a story about the product. We said why not? It’s a little bit of reckless abandon.
How did Lamborghini react?
They came to us and wanted to find out what it was all about because they heard about it. It was all about being ridiculous as well as making a point. And our shots of the Lamborghini were really cool anyway.

Maserati tweaks its Ghibli executive saloon with a slight rename, a new look and some new tech 2017-08-24 11:40 Maserati has revealed a 2018 facelift for the Ghibli saloon, giving its BMW 5 Series rival a slight rename, while introducing minor styling tweaks and new technology. The Ghibli – four years old this year – is now known as the Ghibli GranLusso, and the refreshed car will make its debut in the metal at the Chengdu Motorshow in China. Image 2 of 4 Image 2 of 4 Changes to the design aren’t too substantial. The front bumper is new and now features chrome inserts, while the grille has been altered too and is also chrome, in order to bring the Ghibli in line with the newer Levante SUV. • Best executive cars on sale 2017 New GranLusso badging appears on the side skirts, while around the back the rear apron has been tweaked. Maserati reckons that the new rear bumper is sportier looking, and it’s joined by a redesigned diffuser element. The makeover is subtle, but Maserati claims the tweaks all add up to a substantial aerodynamic benefit. Also new for the facelifted and renamed Ghibli are the adaptive full LED headlights, while new, unspecified semi-autonomous driving features are also part of the refresh package. UK prices and specifications have yet to be revealed, nor a release date.  What do you think of the new Ghibli? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.  James Brodie
