Chevrolet Redlines All the Things, Announces Eight Special Editions

Scrape the polished black wheels on these special-edition Chevrolets if you must, but please, do avoid damaging their double red stripes. Unlike other factory wheel-paint treatments that outline the edges or highlights the spokes, Chevy paints a Grand Sport–themed motif on the inner rim. It’s distinctive, and it’s the primary reason for purchasing one of the Redline editions available on eight models for 2017, but it won’t be easy to restore if you rub it up against a curb.

After hearing positive responses to its SEMA Red Line show cars in 2015, Chevrolet decided to build them and delete the space between the two words (lest anyone be reminded of Saturn’s performance trims). All LT trims of the Camaro, Colorado, Cruze sedan and hatchback, Equinox, Malibu, Silverado Double Cab Z71, and Trax, plus the Camaro SS, Silverado Crew Cab LTZ Z71, and Traverse Premier can be ordered with the Redline package.

While some of the SEMA cars included lowered suspensions, the production cars will retain ride stock heights. Aside from the spiffy wheels, Redline Chevys are essentially blacked-out Midnight editions. You’ll find smoked headlight lenses, dark chrome trim, black grilles, black or dark grey mirror caps, and black Bowtie logos. But the Redline editions add a pinch of red, not only on the wheels but also outlining the model badge lettering (and on pickup trucks, to cover the front tow hooks). Some models include dark grey or black door handles, while the Camaro gets black double stripes on the front fenders.

Red, silver, and black are the only eligible body colors. Prices haven’t been disclosed. Initially, the Redline package will be offered on Silverado pickups, with all other models to follow at Chevy’s whim. While you wait, better practice your parallel-parking and drive-through skills.

Chevrolet Trax Redline Edition

Chevrolet introduced the Trax subcompact crossover in 2012 at the Paris Auto Show, followed by a U.S. debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Essentially a Buick Encore with a few bowties scattered here and there, the latest model Trax got a facelift just last year, receiving new styling outside, new trim levels, and a 7.0-inch display screen for the interior. So far, the Trax has been selling quite well, moving some 400,000 units in worldwide markets since its global debut. To help bolster that success, Chevy has introduced the new Trax Redline Edition at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, adding the tall-bodied model to a lineup of no less than eight other Redline’d cars and trucks in a flurry of CAS special editions.

The first time we got a look at Chevy’s concept for the Redline special edition was at SEMA in 2015, and now, we have a huge variety of models to choose from when opting for something with the Redline look. Included in this latest release is the Cruze LT, Malibu LT, Camaro LT and SS, Equinox LT, Traverse Premier, Colorado LT, and Silverado Double Cab LT Z71 and Crew Cab LTZ Z71.

Meanwhile, the Trax is offered with the Redline package at the LT trim level. Upgrades include wheels in a black finish with a red dash on a potion of the outside rim, nameplates that are finished in black and outlined in red, a grille with a black finish, and a bowtie badge that’s finished in black as well.

Look for the Chevrolet Trax Redline Edition in dealerships this July.
