Formed ten years ago, DEATHSTENCH released three albums and many eps.. The "Massed in Black Shadow" album was a great obscure and dangerous one..The crown of their sacrifice was their collaboration with Bon Masters Phurpa. John Paul Whetzel and Darea Plantin spells behind this interview.

“Blood Moon Divination” was your latest release. It was released in a limited amount of copies and only in Tape format. Why this choice?

We have always preferred analog releases. We view physical copies as something that should be appreciated.. Let's face it, it's the 21st century, and people do most of their listening through some sort of streaming service. If they like it, they most likely pirate it. We understand this; Our physical releases are intentionally designed for coveting.

We put a great deal of energy into each release. In our past special editions, we have included ritual accouterments that correspond with each album, such as shards of human bone and incense we made specifically for the intent to conjure with the dead.

You have released three albums. Please tell us the concept behind each one and the process of the recordings…Each release turns out to more noisy and dark forms..

To be precise it's four albums, and numerous collaborations and splits. Our releases are not in any sort of chronological order, from conception to the final product takes its own time dependant upon the haste of that particular record label. We record basically the same for each album, building upon a structured theme. Our music is built on layers of sounds from instruments, traditional and otherwise, that we record with either handheld devices or microphones connected to an audio interface which we use to record our percussion and amps.

Each track on "Blood Moon Divination" is an audial ritual recorded and released during each specific Blood Moon in the tetrad cycle of blood moon eclipses of 2014-2015. Through that span of time, these celestial vibrations were available as they were being released on several streaming platforms, including Black Metal and Brews and Repartiseraren. A tetrad of lunar eclipses is extremely uncommon. This was only the eighth of such cycles in over two thousand years. We compiled them together for a physical album that we chose to release during the first exclusive total solar eclipse the United States had seen in over two hundred years. Eclipses, both solar and lunar, are considered to be very inauspicious events throughout the world. As an omen of war, the Talmud regards "If the face of the moon is as red as blood it is a sign that the sword is coming to the world."

"N.O.X." is a transcendent four track journey that starts out violently with the lo-fi black metal track OXEX DAZIS SIATRIS, Enochian for "Vomiting The Head of Scorpions" and slowly transforms itself into a less chaotic discord that concludes with the meditative piece "Mysterivm Tremendvm". N.O.X. or "The Night of Pan", is a mystical state that represents the stage of ego-death in the process of spiritual attainment. The Greek word Pan also translates as All, as he is a symbol of the Universal, a personification of Nature; both Pangenetor, "all-begetter," and Panphage, "all-devourer". Pan is both the giver and the taker of life, and his Night is that time of symbolic death where the adept experiences unification with the All through the ecstatic destruction of the ego-self. In a more general sense, it is the state where one transcends all limitations and experiences oneness with the universe.

"Nekro Blood Ritual", our second album, was designed specifically for its cassette release and is broken into two sections: Conjuration Rites and Burial Evocation. This album focuses on conjuring the dead and the desecration of human remains. This is by far our most atmospheric album; most of the tracks are rely heavily on field recordings and stygian synthesizers to evoke the abject darkness. These songs are reminiscent to the "Incantations in Dead Tongues" era of our work. There are only two conventional (for use of a better term) songs on this album, "Nekrobloodritual" and "Desecrating The Host" the latter being a harsh black funeral doom dirge for the departed.

In our debut album, "Massed in Black Shadow" we utilize all of our influences through the years. Incorporating elements of death industrial, dark ambient, doom, and black metal, and hideously transforming and conjoining them into a writhing mass of absolute filth, a sound truly all our own. The final track, titled “Bastards of the Black Flame” can be considered a motto to us, as it is exactly who we are. The byproducts of an unholy union between some of the most violent forms of music, in both sound and ideologies.

DEATHSTENCH collaborated with Phurpa. How did this Union take form? Are you interested in the theory of empiricism in Bon Religion?

In 2012 Alexei Tegin had discovered our music from our debut album and contacted us. Both Phurpa and ourselves operate with the same meditative qualities regarding our music. Although our sound derives from different spectrums, they coalesce quite vividly. "Evoking Shadows of Death" fuses our ultrasonic vibrations and harsh atmospheres with the harmonious chants and deep, droning reverberations of their tantric voice. These two tracks are designed to help the chod practitioner tap the power of fear. This transformation does not fall spontaneously, as grace, upon the listener: the practitioner must engage in the process. One must take steps to transmute through the aural plane and, through a process in which they must actively participate, requiring utmost concentration and mental stamina. This mystical experience is achieved, not bestowed.

Empirical reasoning has no place in esoteric practices and the occult. These objects are neither phenomena (empiricism) nor human constructs imposed upon the phenomena (idealism), but real structures which endure and operate independently of our knowledge, our experience and the conditions which allow us access to them. Some things cannot be reduced down to empirical measurements.

Thanatology and satanism are your basic influences. How do you define satanism and how death in your personal path?

Deathlore has always intrigued the both of us. There is absolutely nothing more final than Death. Every single one of us will die, as Death does not discriminate. Dying, death and how human beings respond to the inevitability of their mortality and cope with the reality of loss can be viewed from a wide range of perspectives. Our intent has never been to elaborate on our practices or rituals to any audience. Even the altars we allow you to see are set up specifically for public viewing. While they are still symbolic of what we would normally produce for our own rituals, the intent isn't there. It's merely superficial. Our personal altars and rituals will always remain clandestine, as all witchcraft should be.

I would like to hear your thoughts and if you are into the systems of O.N.A & Temple of the Black Light in theory and praxis as Traditional satanic approach you unveil through your works . Does DEATHSTENCH ever perform live?

We are very selective in our live performances. The last show was in Portland, Oregon way back in 2015 when we opened up for MGLA, Weregoat, and Sempiternal Dusk. Alan Dubin (of Gnaw, Khanate) and Billy Anderson, whom we have long collaborated with, did a sort of dueling vocals approach to our fifteen-minute audial assault on an beyond-capacity crowd. This show was recorded by Mateo from Greysun Records who also released it on his label in 2018.

Yes, we are familiar with some of the Chthonic mysteries highlighting mortality and the briefness of life, and the spirits of the blessed dead. Though, like most true paths of esoteric knowledge, not much is truly known about the intricacies of these rituals, having been sworn to secrecy and then lost to the Sands of Time. It has been suggested that communicants would drink Kykeon infused with the psychotropic fungus ergot which helped the initiate to reach a fuller understanding of their purpose in life and to shed their fear of death and this, then, heightened the experience and helped transform the initiate. The same can be said of the Huichol in Mexico, who eat peyote at the completion of long arduous pilgrimages in order that they may experience in the journey of the soul of the dead to the underworld. Death worship and eschatology are celebrated by all cultures throughout time, most with the use of hallucinogens.

In contemporary education, the emphasis has been on the psychomotor and the cognitive, namely reading, writing, and arithmetic, at the expense of the affective, namely, the emotions, the sensual, the intuitive, and the imaginative. Priority has been assigned to the verbal-intellectual skills. Anything else tends to be shelved or boxed and put away as ephemeral, esoteric, or mystical, each of these terms being used in a pejorative sense.

Consider for a moment the human sensory system. To the scientific mind, the senses are perceived to act as a kind of data-reduction system. The problem with this concept of the senses is that we do not respond to all that is potential sensory input. Perception is quite a selective process, attending to only a small fraction of so-called reality.

To some extent, scientist or artist, everything we perceive is "illusory," since to perceive anything at all we must use our imaginative capacity for fantasy.

What can we expect from DEATHSTENCH in the near future?

We have a few albums waiting in the shadows including collaborations with Sektor 304 and LINEKRAFT, as well as another full-length album incorporating both Billy Anderson and Alan Dubin. Time is relative, and there are no promises as to when any of these releases will see the light of day.

Fire and Redemption Pt. 6 Currently Russia is invading Ukraine and we are witnessing prophecy being fulfilled. In 2015, we did a video explaining a 200-year-old prophecy by Vilna Gaon. He prophesied that when Russia were to invade Ukraine the steps of the Messiah would be heard. Vilna Gaon was a mystic who emphasized the spiritual interpretation of the Torah. 

The church today teaches that “no man knows the day and hour,” thinking that Scripture pertains to the second coming of Christ, but the early church taught that it had more to do with Christ’s return in His saints. In 2 Thessalonians 1:10, Paul taught that when Christ comes, He will be glorified in His saints. Malachi says that suddenly (in Hebrew “suddenly” means “in a moment of a twinkling of an eye”) enter His temple. You’re the temple of God. The Lord is going to return in the remnant first in glory. The third temple is not about what they build in Jerusalem; you are the third temple. 

In Daniel 9 it was prophesied that the seven weeks being the time frame to when Jerusalem would be restored. Seven days multiplied by seven weeks adds up to 49 - that is a Schmita, which leads to Jubilee. There is a 49-year time frame that is revealing what will happen, and actually what has already come to pass.

On June 7th 1967, Jerusalem was restored and began to be rebuilt in troublesome times. If you multiply 49 prophetic years to a Jewish year (which is 360 days according to the lunar calendar) you will get 17,640 days. When you add those days from June 7th 1967, it will take you to September 23, 2015, which was Yom Kippur. This was when the tetrad blood red moons occurred on the Lord’s feast. Jesus said two thousand years ago that He was coming soon, or shortly. This means that “shortly” to Jesus has a whole other meaning that we need to understand. 

This brings me to Rabbi Judah Ben Samuel’s ten Jubilee prophecy. He lived in 1275 and prophesied that Jerusalem would be captured and for eight Jubilees, which is 400 years. Four hundred years from 1517 brings us to 1917 which is when General Allenby took Jerusalem. This happened on Hanukkah in 1917. God’s feasts are not done away with and God is still doing things on His feast days to mark time for those who are paying attention. The League of Nations, before they were called the United Nations, voted that Jerusalem would be a no man’s land.

If God can speak to people to show the accuracy of when He will do things, then we should be able to hear from the Lord with the same type of accuracy. He reveals his plan to the righteous but not to the wicked. He only opens to those who are pure in their heart and have spiritual understanding. 

For the next 50 years Jerusalem was considered no man’s land. Another 50 years later, in 1967,  the Six Day War took place and Jerusalem was restored to Israel. The next 50 years takes us to 2017. In 2017, another major biblical prophecy occurred when the first red heifer in the last two thousand years was birthed. The Jews know that the third temple cannot be dedicated and restored until there is a red heifer as the red heifer is needed in order to dedicate the temple. They say that either Elijah or the Messiah would come to slay this final red heifer. The physical red heifer isn’t the important part; it’s only symbolic of the completion of the remnant who are a people that have died to self to come into the fullness of God’s glory.

The sign of the tetrad blood red moons have also occurred on very significant dates. This occurred when Christ was crucified, also with a sackcloth moon. This occurred around 1967 when Jerusalem was captured and also between 2014-2015, all on feast days. All these signs are telling us how close we are to the end, to the return of the Messiah. In 2015, I told my people we are entering a transition where the Lord is going to start getting the church ready for what’s coming. These teachings were all preparation for us to be ready because the footsteps of the Messiah are being heard. He is close. We need to live everyday like it is our last. Amen.

The “super wolf blood moon” is a media and SEO invention

There is no such thing as a “blood moon.”

It’s mostly a media invention, driven largely by efforts to get readers to visit news websites—through a tactic known as “search engine optimization”—that likely began thanks to nonsensical apocalyptic “prophecies” promoted by a handful of fringe Christian pastors and writers in 2014.

It’s not clear who first came up with the term “blood moon,” but all it means is a total lunar eclipse. To be fair, a total lunar eclipse is a relatively rare astrological event—from any given place on Earth, you can only see one about once every 2.5 years—and they can look very cool, if you get clear skies and a good viewing spot. What happens is the Earth gets between the sun and the moon, fully blocking all direct sunlight from hitting what is normally the bright side of the lunar surface. Some sunlight does reach the moon, but it’s refracted by the Earth’s atmosphere, turning it a reddish color—hence, “blood moon.”

Much of the media is calling the total lunar eclipse that will occur tonight (Jan. 20) a “super blood wolf moon.” The “wolf” part is actually real: In the tradition of certain Native American cultures, each full moon of the year was given an identifying name. The year’s first full moon was the “wolf moon,” according to Farmer’s Almanac.

The concept of a “supermoon” is just as fake as a “blood moon,” but since the scientific term for this is a “perigee-syzygy moon,” it makes sense that we’d come up with something less jargon-y. On the other hand, “blood moons” already had a perfectly good name.

This is certainly an incomplete record, but it’s instructive to see how often two of the US’s newspapers-of-record, the New York Times and the Washington Post, have referenced “blood moons” in their history:

In their respective 168- and 142-year histories, the Times and Post never once used the term to refer to any sort of astrological phenomena until 2014.

They did both, however, extensively use the phrase “total lunar eclipse.” The first mention found on the archive-search tools on the Times’ website dates back to April 1921.

The Post’s first use of “total lunar eclipse” that is findable online, using ProQuest, is even older, from June 1881.

The “blood moon” trend exploded in 2014, when the first in a tetrad of full lunar eclipses—that is, when there are four full lunar eclipses in a row with no partial eclipses between them—occurred. A group of fringe Christian clergymen and writers latched onto this astrological event, reading it as a sign of end-times based on a very stretched reading of a few biblical passages. They published books on what would become known as the “blood moon prophecies,” with titles like:

A little media attention to them was all the internet needed. Here’s a record of Google search interest in the phrase “blood moon” and “total lunar eclipse” going back to 2004:

Since Google became the portal to the internet for a growing number of users (Alexa ranks it the world’s biggest website), publishers have increasingly had to rely on ranking highly on the site’s search results pages. That often means chasing trends centered around specific search terms.

It’s no surprise, then, that the Post published 10 and 17 stories on “blood moons” in 2014 and 2015, respectively, while the Times joined in the fun with two in 2014 and six in 2015. There were no high-quality total lunar eclipses in 2016 or 2017, so things quieted down a bit, but then blew up again in 2018 and now 2019.

By looking more closely at what the Times was actually writing about—and the language its writers used—you can see the journalists first attempting to be creative when given the assignment to write about “blood moons.” A moon-themed crossword puzzle is fun! But then their frustration seeps in. For example, a 2015 opinion piece asks, in exasperation, why we are so obsessed with “blood moons” but can’t get our stuff together to save our own planet from climate change. An article published today (Jan. 20) is subtitled “You don’t really need to call it a ‘Super Blood Wolf Moon.’”

Worse, though, are the bizarre attempts at integrating the extremely popular search term into stories where it really makes no sense. Take a story from February 2018, about life in Kobani, a small Syrian town destroyed by regional war. For some reason, the piece is framed narratively by the “blood moon” that occurred that month. It even manages to fit in the full search term du jour of the time, “super blue blood moon.”

This is not to pick on the Times; nearly everyone in media now plays this game. And you should, by all means, go out and try to see the total lunar eclipse tonight. But maybe just call it that.

The term Blood Moon once was used in some sects of Christian prophecy to describe a total lunar eclipse that belonged to a tetrad of total lunar eclipses. The most recent Blood Moon – at least by this definition – took place on September 28, 2015. The next one won’t come until April 25, 2032.

Around the year 2013, when the expression Blood Moon first gained widespread popularity, a Blood Moon didn’t refer to just any total lunar eclipse, but to a member of a special series: four totally eclipsed moons in a row, each separated by six lunar months, with no partial lunar eclipses in between. Such a series is called a lunar tetrad. Two Christian pastors popularized the term Blood Moon in their book, in which they discussed the upcoming lunar tetrad (April 14 and October 8, 2014; April 8 and September 28, 2015) in apocalyptic terms.

The four lunar eclipses came and went, and, although the world didn’t end, we gained another dubious meme: Blood Moon.

The Daniel 12:11-12 duel prophetic revelation (1290 & 1335 days) fits perfectly between the God appointed Hebrew Feasts from Rosh HaShanah on September 24, 2014 through First Fruits on April 24, 2018 and Shavuot-Pentecost on May 21, 2018; seventy (70) years after the birth of Israel on May 14, 1948.

The angel said, “Go Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed UNTIL the time of the end” Dan 12:9.

Concerning the time of the end, Jesus said, “Therefore when you see the ‘Abomination of Desolation’, spoken by the Prophet Daniel . . .” Matt 24:15.

The KEY to Jesus’ words is that this event could NOT have been completed during the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 AD! BECAUSE, even the holocaust of WWII was worse . . . Yet, consider what Jesus added about that time of the end:

“For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, nor ever shall be” Matt 24:21.

The wars of the 20th Century have been many times worse than the event of the 1st Century. Jesus continued:

“And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened” Matt 24:22.

All of humanity has not even come close to being obliterated throughout history.Only in our time (the 20th Century) was that a real possibility! So, the “Abomination of Desolation”is still in our future, because it is linked to the virtual destruction of humankind, and only saved by the intervention of Jesus Christ.

“From the time that… the Abomination of Desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days” Dan 12:11.

1290 Days? Since the prophecy is Hebraic, the 1290 days are certainly related to the Hebrew Lunar Calendar. The Hebrew Lunar Calendar has specific divinely appointed celebrations related to the signs of the sun and the moon.

“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD” Joel 2:31.

Turning the “moon into blood” is an event called a Blood Moon, when the earth comes between the sun and moon causing a dark red cast over the moon. Such calendar events as a sequence of four total Blood Moons eclipses have only happened twice in the last 65 years. The first event was during the birth of the nation of Israel on May 14, 1948. The second event was during the unification of the city of Jerusalem on June 7, 1967.

These two appointed sets of four Blood Moon feasts sequences were very significant concerning the ancient nation of Israel, and the world… for such an event had not happened previously for over 450 years (in 1492)!

2016 –   The struggle for leaders that will love Israel….  The last Trumpet of G-d was Trump…  But, he can not divide Israel…there is NO two-state solution.  The day his son-in-law was there and acted as an outlaw to Israel…Hurricane Harvey formed and then hit quickly.  In 2005 Hurricane Katrina formed the day the last Jew was removed from Gaza.  She hit the day the bulldozers plowed under their Gaza homes.  They promised the Palestinians that Gaza/Hebron would be their new home.  The Jew was never to return.  When you remove someone’s home…they can NOT return.  Katrina victims moved to Houston and never returned…but were displaced once again by Harvey.  Our Creator will NOT forget…and will keep chasing us down as we continue to revolt against His plans.  (He wants Israel in ALL her land…and more than she has now.)
