Rewatching 2010tywmc and I'm genuenely so sad like after reading the book and all the whimsy of the Leonov crew... I miss it. I miss it so much. Why so much hostility. I'm so sad.

I think 2010 The year we make contact has many problems, but Bob Balaban playing Dr. Chandra is not one of them. I have heard so many people by now who hate the movie simply because they went for a white dude for Chandra. Whitewashing is bad I agree and certainly a reason why they did it was the time it was made in. Be it as it may, the more important thing for me is how much emotion and feeling Balaban brought as Dr. Chandra when dealing with Hal and his goodbye from him and general any scene with these two in them. If we set skin color and ethnicity aside, what stays is a great performance and very emotional scene towards the end of the movie.

Also for those who are angry at the sequel of 2001, just take to heart what Clarke said, movie and book are playing in a slightly different universe so in this universe Chandra is white instead of Indian heritage, the message stays the same, though. Hal was never the antagonist or villain others painted him as and Chandra vouched for him.

Something about me spending like an hour trying to get me and my girlfriend subtitled 2010tywmc so we could watch it later today is so romantic. To me. I hope he sees it as the wonderful romantic gesture I see it as.
