Yet another analysis no one asked for - Katawa Shoujo and Kibbe body types

Brief summary of Kibbe body types

They’re on a spectrum from more sharp/“masculine” to more soft/“feminine.” So dramatics (thin, sharp, delicate) -> naturals (broad bluntness) -> classics (between soft and sharp) -> gamines (some features soft, some sharp - a grab bag) -> romantics (round softness.)

I like to put in a 6th type for delicate softness called ingenue/ethereal (delicate softness) if none of the above types work for someone.

Within each type there are subtypes.

So there are 13 types in total (not including ingenue.)

(on average from most “sharp” to most “soft”)

Dramatic - soft dramatic

Flamboyant natural - natural - soft natural

Dramatic classic - classic - soft classic

Flamboyant gamine - gamine - soft gamine

(Sharpened ingenue - ingenue - soft ingenue)

(Note: I mostly used their sprites and how they look rather than their official body measurements, which don’t really match how they look in-game anyway. If their measurements/heights were accurate, they’d all look super fragile with tiny waists.)

Shizune

So for a while I was like “what the heck is she??? Her features are super defined and segmented but she’s also super voluptuous and soft-looking??”

Then I realized - that’s literally gamine.

Mix of sharp and soft features.

The only thing that might not match is that she’s capable of looking quite tall depending on the angle (I think she dresses to enhance it, with the thigh socks), but without a height reference she can appear petite/pixie-like. She definitely has the whole mischievous pixie look going on. Plus, she looks REALLY good with the emblematic gamine haircut - short and tousled, slightly asymmetrical.

She would look best in crisp, fitted clothes with TONS of detail and sassy coloring. Her dress is a pretty good example of this in terms of color/fabric choice, but it’s a bit too ruffled/romantic-looking to perfectly suit her.

Emi

Emi was probably the easiest to categorize for me. She’s literally short in stature, sure, but she also appears girlish and small without a height reference, landing her in the gamine category.

The mix of her young-looking facial features, small hands/feet, and her fitness from running (gamines are a grab bag of soft/delicate and sharp/toned) is further evidence for this.

My guess is that she’d be a flamboyant gamine (gamine with some added sharpness), because bone structure/body shape goes farther to determine body type than face/hair does. So even though her face is super soft, I imagine she’d have more of a tomboyish look if she was a real person.

According to Kibbe types, she’d pull off clothing with sharp edges, lightweight fabric, bright colors, and asymmetrical cuts quite well.

Hanako

She looks pretty moderate overall. I’m putting her in the classics category because she seems to suit looks that aren’t super soft and blowzy but not extremely sharp and straight, either.

She has some added sharp edges and some length in her limbs, though, so I’m putting her in the dramatic classic category. She looks fairly compact/trim with length in her waist and limbs.

She would look best in tailored lines that are clean, sleek and match the shape of her body. Slight sharpness will suit her, such as a V-neck or an angular cap, as will relatively neutral colors. Her casual outfit is an epic example of this.

Rin

It’s surprising at first because of her short haircut and guy’s uniform, but I think Rin has the only pure romantic body type among the girls. If you look at her face and body, she has by far the softest features out of all of them. Her limbs and feet are padded rather than bony-looking and her chin and cheeks are super rounded. Even without arms, her shoulders are quite sloped as well.

She would look good in rich, blended colors, flowing fabrics gathered around the waist, artistic prints, and rich details.

Lilly

Lilly’s is quite hard to define. At first I thought she was a classic because the word itself defines her look and personality so well, but they make a big deal of her looking tall and strong-built in general (despite being like, 5’7’’, which is tall in Japan but not INSANELY so), which made me wonder if she might be a natural or dramatic. They tend to look taller than they really are.

Ultimately, I don’t think she’s muscle-y or strong-looking enough to be a natural, which left me between soft dramatic and dramatic classic. I’m leaning towards soft dramatic because of how tall she’s described as looking and how much I prefer her in sharp lines compared to softer ones (though she looks really good in light fabrics as well, so there’s a fair argument either way!).

The soft dramatic type is described as “bold, exotic physicality combined with a powerful sensual essence" (compared to dramatic classic being a "cool, sophisticated essence." That describes Lilly as well, but I think she's described as curvier and more exotic-looking than many dramatic classics.) Especially being multiracial, Lilly’s looks may appear distinct all over the world (this is not necessarily the case with all multiracial people! I’m biracial and my type is soft classic, which is considered one of the least exotic, most “blended” types.) Her shoulders and collarbone are sharp AF, so her overall bone structure most likely is as well. And for an anime girl, the bones in her face are quite structured and defined.

That's basically what soft dramatic is - sharp bone structure with a curvy figure on top. Dramatic classic is more of a symmetrical, neutral bone structure with hints of added sharpness here and there. So yeah, final verdict: soft dramatic.

She would rock clothing that’s sort of a “T” shape (emphasizing her shoulders with a thinner silhouette around her waist and legs), and long, draped lines that show off her height in monochromatic, bold, rich colors.

Misha

I think she’s a theatrical romantic. Sure, she’s plumper than the other girls, which softens her features, but you can see that her overall stature looks pretty round and wide as well.

In the flashback scene with Shizune when she was lighter, you can still see softness in her face, calves, etc. She’s not pure romantic softness like Rin, though, because of a couple of things. First, her waist is more sharply tapered rather than a soft, curved line. Second, she pulls off slightly sharper details in her fashion (like the buttoned skirt or the school uniform) relatively well. Third, she has sort of what I call “angry eyebrows” (slanting downward) that make her face not as purely soft as it otherwise might be.

She’d pull off most of the clothing romantics would, along with a few dramatic details/embellishments. Soft, flowing fabrics with emphasis on her figure would really suit her.

Conclusion

From "most sharp to most soft", they're in this order: Lilly > Hanako > Emi > Shizune > Misha > Rin

It could be fun to design outfits for them as described above.

I think the versatility of this look is my favorite part of it. For styling, I used Color Wow's Carb Infused Dream Cocktail for extra volume, curled in alternate directions with my Croc Hybrid Iron, and then sprayed Cult-Favorite Hairspray from Color Wow.

Usually, when a customer is considering a shorter look, I remind them that short hair is sometimes more work than long hair. In most cases, in addition to the analysis of the face shape, the actual length is determined if you want to put it on.

I always talk to my clients about how to use products and then how to style because I want them to feel comfortable and confident and to re-create their look at home.

This look is the perfect balance of sexy and chic for me. This cut is one of my absolute favorite haircuts for women with thin hair. My favorite part of this cut is how versatile he is. You can wear it elegant and sexy or add some soft waves for a playful, soft look.

If my client considers this haircut, I ask these questions. What is your everyday life? How much time do you want to spend on your hair every day? Which styling products and tools do you have at home?

This cut is super easy to style, but I always tell my customer that they need to blow dry their hair with a round brush to achieve the sleek look as pictured here, then finish with a straightener to smooth the sides to give it the sharp appearance.

The perfect face shape for this cut is round, as it will lengthen your face, but I love this cut on most face shapes, as you can adjust how long and angled the face will be to fit any face shape.

I would rate this hair cutting medium for maintenance as you need it trimmed about every 5-8 weeks to keep the shape.

Mostly, all hair types can deduct that. It all depends on the perfect styling products to make styling easier. My absolute favorite products are from Unite Hair. In this look, I've used a product called Unite Lazer Straight and Unite Boosta Volumizing Spray.

10 Albums That Made Me

So, I was tagged by the very awesome @duchessknowseverything to do this and I”m always up for a trip down memory lane. So, the prompt was to list 10 albums in no particular order that influenced you as a teen, and helped make you who you are today - for better or for worse. I’m not sure I actaully have 10 full albums that I could say made me “who I am”, but I sure as hell loved all of these a lot. So here’s my list

1. Madonna - Madonna (I mean, come on. I had the clothes, the accessories, the asymmetric haircut...Madonna was everything to high school me) 2. The Joshua Tree - U2 (Fuck, I was OBSESSED. I may have already mentioned my love for Adam Clayton in the late 80′s LOL.) 3. Thriller - Michael Jackson (OMG, My BFFs Sweet 16 was literally this album on repeat) 4. Faith - George Michael (I mean...George Michael was just so much when I was a kid. And this album blew me away) 5. Raising Hell - Run D.M.C. (Where I grew up you were either a rocker or a rapper. I kind of straddled the fence because I liked a weird mix of music. But any time Run D.M.C. came on the radio even the rockers would stop to listen because Wearing My Adidas is a fucking JAM) 6. Rapture - Anita Baker (literally the soundtrack to my 2nd year of college. Her voice kills me. Also, a concert I’ll never forget mostly because my best friend and I got stranded in the middle of nowhere after our bus took off without us and we had a planes, trains and automobiles experience trying to get home. We still laugh about it to this day) 7. Synchronicity - The Police (the boys who were part of the group of friends I hung out with in high school loved The Police. So I fell into a love for them by accident. But man, their music was amazing. I have super clear memories of hanging out, late at night, on someone’s stoop, listening to Every Breath You Take on someone’s boom box. Yeah...it was the 80′s, man. Boom box. And I was wearing Capezios and a Flashdance-style sweatshirt. LOL!) 8. Tracey Chapman - Tracey Chapman (goddamn I loved her voice. And maybe this doesn’t count because I think I was 20 when her album came out but I listened to it non stop) 9. A Gift from A Flower to A Garden - Donovan (this album was a gift from my dad and I listened to it so much I wore it out. It’s one of those records that brings back so many memories of my childhood) 10. Free To Be You And Me - Marlo Thomas & Friends (anyone around my age probably had this album and it was hugely influential at the time in absolutely every way. These songs made me know it was cool to be a girl, it was cool to be different, it was cool to be nice, it was cool to like things girls weren’t “supposed” to like...I just loved this record a LOT).
