*slides in from an abyss, raises a point*
I will perhaps look like a weirdo, jumping on a topic like that out of the blue, but I have a few words to say in regards of bans on this hellsite as a fellow underbelly Russian.
In the early April of this year, I was nuked and immediately wondered, if anyone else on the net had this problem. Of course people did; their tumblrs were nullified at sight, some previously banned, some not. As it turned out, antispam was ravaging the place, in spite of yet another pronbots tide, and it specifically targeted VPN users.
Around the time, AO3 was banned in Russia. Many people started searching for and using free VPNs to access the site. VPN can often be forgotten to be turned off, too (and free ones aren't exactly safe / best to use either). Yet, a slightest hint of another address on your url was enough to trigger the antispam.
Why would it do this, though? Ladies and gentlemen of questionable reality were perhaps using them at creation time and proceeding to multiply under the same address; they were following people extensively, sometimes leaving a kudos or two, even rbing stuff!
If your IP -- regardless of you geography -- was spotted in the vicinity of unreality's breeding grounds (aka in the same ip net on your Internet provider's server), you were screwed. With no possible way of knowing about it whatsoever, unless. You'd notice your own rbs weren't there.
Well, I've noticed alright, but silly me back then thought it was just a bug. Like, it's tumblr! It has these spike-heads-stuck-in-arse all around! Being a silent lurker also left me less to no chance of knowing I was put on a ban -- and evidently, on a hit list.
So. On that Friday night, I rbed our lord and savior Sharp screencaps and went to sleep only to find my blog terminated in the morning (along with my very old one!).
What helped me to get everything back:
creating tickets, more than one if I had to, because the form could bug out;
stating, I was using VPN to access another sites and might've forgotten to turn it off on tumblr, I remember even finding templates of how to write a message like this correctly -- like, the sheer scale of the issue should be insane for these to even exist;
tagging support on twitter and specifying my @ ; can be helpful to tag them multiple times once in a few hours due to timezone differences and business hours, especially on weekends;
monitoring reddit, as purges often go in waves, you aren't alone in this;
important: when contacting support, use an e-mail used for the account.
ALTHOUGH, these might work / actually works, if your account was / is terminated. How to lift a shadowban remains a mystery, so far the folks I know of who'd been put under its effect waited for months on end (potentially risking to lose their blogs; a slope taken from ban to can is likely to be incredibly quick) to retrieve their notifs and asks and messages and reachs back.
Whoever sent me ask - I'm sorry it doesn't open.
Tumblr media
SO yeah, I guess that's the end of my Tumblr life for now.
Sorry that I talk about this yet again, but I want everyone to know what this website is. I'm very sad, actually I am even dissapointed. Literally cried yesterday. Tumblr has been my safe space for a very long time - idk. This blog is probaby about 8 years old and has 850+ followers. Long story short:
My side blog (@akandesprincess) got shadowbanned about like 3 months ago -> I moved to my main (@valyrra) again -> 2 weeks ago it got shadowbanned too.
I wrote to @support - they didn't do anything to help me.
So yesterday I decided to make completely new account @valyrrra with new email. My friends adviced that I use VPN all the time because I've seen people with russian IP's who got banned too.
Everything went fine until I turned off VPN - it got shadowbanned too.
I was pretty much open with the fact that I am Russian and I live in Russia. All my mutuals know that I don't support war and never have been. It is a devastating moment for me and my family. I lived in Ukraine and my best friend is still there. Also I am hypersensetive, I have BPD, MADD -> dudes I am would rather die than support the terrifying and vile thing that causes harm.
Hense, I am okay with websites that ban people from Russia, close their accounts, like prohibiting users to enter websites with russian ip's. BUT - I'm okay with it when you(website) is open about it. Dudes, if you want us to suffer - that's okay (with me). We are part of the problem, even civillians, but... Would you rather be open about the fact you don't support the country that started a war, or... Ban account's that have been loyal to the website - silently? Because like. I am okay with the fact that websites banning us but also... You understand that you are silencing people who might have different opinions? That's kinda a controversial question but ugh I never talked about it and right now seems like a good time.
Okay. I have let my thoughts out. Gonna pray no enforcer would monitor my account haha! You know I'm joking... Right?... Right...? yeah guys, people here don't have an opinion. People here get fucking beaten up and get big fucking penalties for speaking up. if u are not aware of the fact that 99% of russian people are fucking poor.
Okay I'm just mad nwm. I am not saying that we are not guilty. If u wanna still stay in touch with me:
