First Story (2)
The Trainers have went far and wide, through all of existence and nonexistence in order to find the candidates to be The Guardians. Those of nonexistence were just as hard as finding those of existence. But the Trainers or at least most of them were successful in finding candidates but those that were unsuccessful of finding them were either destroyed or recruited to find and use the power that the lands hold all of everything that is, was and nevermore. Although many have been successful in their mission there are many that have been killed because of this. There are more realities as there apocalyptic ones. The finding of the candidates is a difficult if not fatal scavenger hunt…but like all that are alive, no one from any reality is perfect. That has only happened once and now in every reality all life is trying to become as perfect as him…there is even a religion after him. But The Trainers could not approach him and ask him for help for it would upset the balance (and they already tried and he firmly said no) so they had to go with the knowledge of all and choose carefully. This leads to the first candidate…that is so strong and powerful that could turn the tides of the upcoming battle that is to come. The candidates that could lead this squad of Guardians to never ending victory…to refuse this path even though this the path that she is to have.
SEPTEMBER 4, 2017
Walking through the halls of Central Arizona Community College, a girl has just been dropped off at the front of the cafe, she is 5′9, baked caramel tan skin, growing out iris purple hair and amethyst eyes...her body type is very curvy and very fit, she is dressed in a what looks like home made blue jeans with glittering flowers and shimmering skulls twisting all around the legs of her pants with an eclipse on the back pockets, her shirt is again a fitted long sleeve shirt of pearly white with pastel pink lettering that says, ‘get in my way of my goals & get burned’ with dark magenta flames all around, she is also sporting a pair of dangling bejeweled crescent moon earrings, a charm bracelet of the same caliber on her left hand, a watch on her right and a few rings on each hand, her shoes are heavy duty running shoes of black, gray and white, and her backpack is a multi-pocket backpack that she decked out in patches from various cartoons and anime like Monster High, Ever After High, MLP, FMA, Sailor Moon, and many others. She walked into the cafe planning of eating around a few meals meant for like three people while doing some of her assignments that she couldn’t get done the night previously. She took out her laptop from her bag and set upon the table and when it was fully on, she plugged in a cute flash drive, she then got to work on multiple projects and assignments as she waited for her food.
Just as she is done with about thirty of her assignments, she felt a tap on her head. she turned around and saw that it was a few girls with smiles on their faces, “Hey Iris.” said one, the shortest one of the group of three standing at 5′4, pale white skin, sky blue eyes, long golden blonde hair in a ponytail, and almost resembles a doll, she is dressed in a white dress with a light pink belt, silver bangles on her right hand and a large beaded bracelet on the left, white sandal wedges and a teardrop backpack with a small shoulder bag. On her right is a girl standing at 5′6, sun kissed tan skin, pixie cut ginger red hair, emerald green eyes and a slender figure...she wears an all black outfit of a black hoodie with a black tang top underneath and a pair of star headphones about her neck, black jeans and black high tops, she also has a pair of skull earrings and a pair of finger less gloves with a lazy grin on her face and the other girl next to the ginger is a light caramel girl, stands at 5′7 she has mismatched eyes with her left eye being hazel and her right eye being gold but behind a pair of glasses, her hair a lush brownish black that goes just beneath her shoulders, she dresses in a white and black plaid shirt underneath a red vest, faded blue jeans with a studded belt, and ankle boots...Iris smiles at the three girls, “hey guys.” she greets as they sit down around her, the four girls began chatting as the ginger drank from a to go coffee cup, “So how’s the music going, Blaze?” Iris asked the red head who just smiled, “it’s alright. I’m working a new song.” she states as she looks at the brunette whom pulled out a thick hard cover books, “how about you Mia?” she looks up and sighs, “working on my latest project. Hoping to be published by the end of the month...if not by a publishing house, I’ll go self publish. My older brother is willing to sell my books.” she said to them with a bit of pride in her voice, “how about you Aphrodite? You haven’t said anything.” the brunette said adjusting her glasses a bit as she looks at the blonde, “oh...it’s nothing. I got the approval to build my sweets shop.” she grins all three girls and gave the blonde a hug! Iris held all three of them and they were lifted off the ground and the other three girls laughed, “Iris! You’re Amazonian side is showing!” laughed Mia the violet headed girl then put them down, “Aphrodite...You’ve been trying to get that sweet shop for over twelve years. That kinda says something.” said Blaze and the other girls agreed, we’ve known her since we were nine years old...and even then she loved making every kind of dessert that she could get her hands on. Give this woman a recipe for any kind of difficult dessert and she would make it in under twenty to twenty five minutes. Iris thought as her other two friends congratulated the blonde then a dark cloud loomed over them...in the form of a group of people that are snickering at the quartet, the four looked over and saw a group of eight to ten...a mixture of boys and girls, the four just sighed, “what the hell do you want?” Blaze growled, “public place. Even freaks are welcome.” said one fake bitch with bleached blonde hair, thirty pounds of make-up and went through so many diets and plastic surgery that she almost looks like a barbie doll with bulimia...Iris just rolls her eyes, “says the Kardashian reject. At least we could actually get along without backstabbing each other on Twitter.” she states and her friends laughed the girl glared at her with an unflattering scowl, “what do you know you’re a fucking Terminator!” she roared and Mia looks at them with a smirk, “So...she can kick your ass three thousand ways to next month and barely break a sweat and still have enough time to make your boy toys and dad jealous with how badass she is.” she states Blaze gave her a high five, “shut up nerd!” roared a different girl same like the first one but with fake red hair, “nerds are the main reason your precious social media exist...do you really want to piss off the one person that could fix computer when it isn’t working?” Blaze purred Aphrodite hummed in agreement. The group left to escape the burning of the four girls; absolutely fuming.
After talking for a while they had to part and they all went their separate ways. Iris walked into her class and took her seat she logged onto the computer and printed what she needed to turn in be it in person while she also turned in assignments online. She leaned back into her chair and looked at the window...but she didn’t just see the desert scenery she saw white on black creatures walking around, some of them were even multiple colors and color patterns. A few of them that resembled multi-tailed butterflies phased right through the window leaving little specks of light that only be described as glitter flew behind them as they flutter around. One of the butterflies that’s pitch black landed on her forehead and thousands of ideas and motivation flowed into her mind, she affectionately called them ‘creativity butterflies’ for every time one of these pitch black butterflies land on other people have gotten the best of ideas and their motivations have skyrockted...she just smiled as she took out her sketchbook and drew the butterfly that was on her face. She moved the butterfly from her forehead onto her hand and drew it out. She was possibly the only one that was attending class that day because her classmates were had a family emergency, personal issues had risen, or just plain got sick but the professor doesn’t care if the class is composed of only one student class shall continue as scheduled. The professor came in and saw Iris and sighed sharply...she didn’t like Iris very much, “ok. let’s get this over with.” he states as he went on with the lesson and she tried her best to take notes...and the way she took notes is different from everyone else...it’s drawing...almost like comics and landscaping but in actuality it’s her notes, if you look closely or at a different angle you could see the words that she is writing. She is taking notes at a rapid pace and asking questions of those that didn’t make sense to her when she looked it up from multiple places online. The professor is one of the professor’s that doesn’t like anyone questioning his authority. So he didn’t like Iris really much. Hell, he treats all of his students like delinquents especially those that do not have the same hair or eyes as everyone else, he has called Iris out on multiple occasions regarding her hair and eyes and has told him and even showed proof that it is in fact natural.
When the break of her two hour class arrived she walked to the vending machine that is down the hall near the bathrooms and the drinking fountains while her professor reads a magazine. She stretched as she walked down to the vending machine as multiple creatures walked by, passed and with her, she had a few black butterflies fluttering around her. She looked at the vending machine and found something she wanted, a bag of chips and a bottle of sprite. She paid and right then the doors right next to her burst off of it’s hinges and a large stark white boar with pastel pink designs on it’s fur and on the tips of it’s tusks, it’s different from any other boar that is found or seen, it has around four to eight tusks, nine-twelve feet tall and around twenty feet in width, it’s large beady eyes are bright yellow. Everyone fell down upon the ground scrambling to get away from the weird beast but what caught Iris’s attention is that other people can see it. Because she is the only one that sees them, she has seen them for quite a while. The boar turned to her made eye contact and begins to growls, Iris cracks her neck and steps to the side directly facing it just as she was gonna get her snacks, the people that are still in the classrooms watched motioning Iris to run quickly but she was not deterred from the challenge from the boar. The second the bottle of Sprite hit the bottom of the machine the boar charged.
Iris stood her ground as the Boar charged at her and she grabbed the boar by the tusk turning it into a battle of wills as well as brute strength. She was not willing to loose to this thing and there’s no way in hell that she’s gonna let this thing run loose. She slammed the boar onto the ground so hard and still holding onto it’s tusks and as soon as she land on it’s back, the boar didn’t have enough time to react or try to get the Amazonian like girl on it’s back before she snapped it’s neck still having her hands on the boar’s large tusks and twisted them to the point that it’s head did a 180 she also grabbed it’s lower tusks and ripped, hard core RIPPED it’s head clean off and with the head over her head she tossed it to other side of the hallway. She hopped right off of the boar’s corpse, covered in it’s pastel pink blood and walked back to the vending machine and got her food. Since her professor doesn’t allow food in the classroom, she leaned against the wall near her classroom...the entirety of the hallway had turned monochrome and the people that was rushing in to congratulate her or straight up yell at her. She looked around seeing that everyone and everything has just stopped, she was thinking of what could’ve caused this, time has stopped, she thought as she looked at the clock that is in the library neither of the hands or the digital numbers of the clocked moved. “I wonder what could’ve caused this?” she mutters as she munches on her snack and looking straight at the clock thinking of thousands if not millions of scenarios of how this could’ve happened.
“That would be me.” a melodic almost innocent sound voice has said but the tone is that of someone that has seen it all...a sage as it were. The violette’s head snapped to the source of the voice...and right then she came face to face with a beautiful bird, the size of a parakeet with obsidian black feathers with glittering ruby red edges, a diatom like mark around it’s head three rainbow like crystals on the center, it had three long tails like a phoenix but it has a glowing white single ring around each one and around it’s legs are matching glowing rings that match of the tails, one it’s left leg it has two rings while on the right it is only one, and it’s eyes are every shade of gray. “What the hell--?” “Greetings.” the bird says cheerfully.
“We have much to discuss.” The bird states.
(I know it’s very long...please don’t kill me.)

Japan, Venezuela, Apple: Your Wednesday Briefing
(Want to get this briefing by email? Here’s the sign-up.)
Good morning,
We’re covering the ascension of Japan’s new emperor, uncertainty in Venezuela and the tales hidden in tree rings.
For this unusual shift in the world’s oldest monarchy, our Tokyo bureau chief took a deeper look at the royal family, which has faced near extinction, intrigue, drama and disappointments.
Part 1: After World War II, when Akihito was a 12-year-old crown prince, international pressure was mounting to prosecute Japan’s royal family, and the fate of the monarchy hung in the balance.
Part 2: In 1975, Akihito and his wife, Michiko, visited a seething Okinawa. His mission: to atone for Japan’s wartime sins.
Part 3: A decade later, the future of the royal family was again at stake, this time hinging on Naruhito’s finding a wife — and fathering a son. He fell in love with a diplomat and, despite the country’s impatience, waited six years for her.
Part 4: To marry Naruhito, Masako Owada gave up everything: career, travel, independence. But all the country seemed to care about was whether she could give birth to a son.
Part 5: Princess Mako, the oldest granddaughter of Akihito, fell in love with a commoner with shaggy hair. Even though she won’t come anywhere near the throne, the country is grappling with one question: Is he good enough?
Guaidó fails to oust Maduro in Venezuela
In a video posted on social media, the opposition leader, Juan Guaidó, called on the people and the military to rise up against President Nicolás Maduro. He was flanked by men in uniform at an air force base in the heart of the capital, Caracas.
Later in the day, John Bolton, the U.S. national security adviser, told reporters that central figures in the Maduro government had committed to help transfer power to Mr. Guaidó.
They, however, publicly stated their support for Mr. Maduro. Here’s our live briefing.
Catch up: Here’s an overview of the situation in Venezuela.
Sri Lanka ends social media ban
President Maithripala Sirisena announced the “immediate” lifting of a temporary ban on social media networks imposed after the Easter Sunday bombings, aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation that might foment unrest.
The investigation: The Islamic State’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, said the bombings were carried out by his fighters, but investigators are still trying to pin down direct connections between ISIS and a local terrorist organization. One lead they’re following is possible travel to Syria by one of the bombers.
Go deeper: Religious tension has surged in Sri Lanka since the attacks, which killed more than 250 people in churches and high-end hotels.
The mostly Buddhist Sinhalese say their survival is being threatened by the country’s Muslims, though the Sinhalese make up three-quarters of the population and dominate politics. This dynamic, sometimes known as a majority with a minority complex, can be seen in the rise of right-wing populism and nationalism around the world.
If you have 18 minutes, this is worth it
Reading between the tree rings
Trees, it turns out, are giant organic recording devices. The circles etched into the trunk tell ancient stories about past climate, civilizations, ecosystems and even galactic events, much of them many thousands of years old.
In recent years, techniques to pry that kind of data from tree rings have expanded, helping scientists forecast future climate patterns.
Here’s what else is happening
Apple: The company’s revenue fell in the latest quarter on weak iPhone demand, its first consecutive quarterly decline in more than two years. Check back here for updates.
C.I.A.: A former officer accused of working with Beijing is expected to plead guilty to charges of unlawful retention of secret information and conspiracy to deliver it to aid a foreign government. His prosecution came amid increased concern in Washington about Chinese espionage in recent years.
China: President Xi Jinping commemorated the 100th anniversary of the May 4 student protests against Western colonialism, using the moment to burnish his brand of authoritarian nationalism while playing down the anti-authority themes that emerged from the movement.
Facebook: The social media company unveiled a redesign of its mobile app and desktop site, adding features to promote private group communication rather than the public News Feed. The shift is a sign of how privacy scandals have forced Facebook to change.
U.S.: President Trump ordered new restrictions on asylum seekers, including setting a fee for their applications and work permits. The move is the latest attempt by the president to shape asylum law, which is usually decided by Congress.
Muslim Brotherhood: The Trump administration is said to be pushing to designate the Islamist political movement as a foreign terrorist organization. The designation would come on the heels of an April 9 White House visit by the Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who is politically opposed to the group.
Afghanistan: Fights involving dogs, birds and camels feed the Afghan love of animal “sports,” although religious leaders decry them as sinful.
The Obamas: Barack and Michelle Obama’s new video production company revealed it is working on seven projects for Netflix, including a drama series on “the barriers faced by women and people of color,” a movie about Frederick Douglass and an adaptation of The Times’s “Overlooked” obituary series for people whose deaths were previous unreported in the paper.
What we’re reading: This piece in The Guardian. Stephen Hiltner, who’s been writing some of our briefings, says: “This characteristically brilliant essay by one of my favorite nature writers, Robert Macfarlane, asks us to consider the world’s oft-neglected underground spaces — and what they might tell us about our planet’s future.”
Now, a break from the news
Cook: Are you a planner? Then try this recipe for Marsala-marinated chicken with roasted vegetables.
Watch: Lisa Hanawalt, the illustrator behind “BoJack Horseman,” has created “Tuca & Bertie,” about two 30-something bird-women. “It was important to me to show that women are gross,” she said.
Read: “Spring” is the most political book thus far in Ali Smith’s earthy and humane series. Its heart is worn far out on its sleeve, our critic writes.
Go: Bereavement wears a black bathrobe in “Grief Is the Thing With Feathers,” playing at St. Anne’s Warehouse in Brooklyn.
Smarter Living: Are you always too busy? There’s a way out of the madness. Taking regular breaks to do nothing improves productivity. Whether at work or at home, sitting still might be uncomfortable at first and could take practice — just like exercise. Keep your devices out of reach, and play with open-ended toys such as kinetic sand.
And bring this list of questions to ask your vet at your next appointment.
And now for the Back Story on …
Honoring workers
In many countries, today is observed as International Workers’ Day. The date memorializes a conflict that became a flash point in the organized labor movement around the world.
In 1886, on the fourth day of national protests in the U.S. calling for an eight-hour work day, police officers responded to a homemade bomb in Chicago’s Haymarket Square with gunfire. Within minutes, seven officers and four protesters were dead. Eight labor organizers were arrested, tried and convicted.
Socialist and Communist groups meeting in Paris a few years later chose to remember the Haymarket affair by making the date the protests began, May 1, a labor holiday. But some U.S. politicians feared following suit.
The country eventually followed the lead of a handful of states and Canada, which had been observing a holiday for workers in September since the early 1880s.
In 1894, the U.S. made Labor Day a national holiday, to be celebrated each year on the first Monday in September.
That’s it for this briefing. See you next time.
— Alisha

5 B2B Brands Delivering Great Customer Experiences
Today’s B2B customers expect more B2C-like experiences, and here are five brands delivering great customer experiences that go far beyond the tired tradition of boring-to-boring. Research from Gartner has shown that 89 percent of firms compete primarily on customer experience. Not all companies may be taking this to heart, however, as according to additional research some 60 percent of marketers fail to take into account consumer expectations, despite 95 percent seeing increasing expectations from customers. Making memorable customer experiences a priority can help build successful campaigns and make for delighted customers, and with further recent research showing that just 14 percent of B2B survey respondents view customer experience and support as a top priority, there may be no better time to work on delivering great customer experiences. In the following randomly-ordered list, we’ll look at five B2B brands that are innovating with customer-pleasing digital experiences.
#1 IBM — IBM Industries Magazine
IBM publishes both a print and digital version of a magazine, with its award-winning Industrious quarterly publication, featuring the top content from IBM Industries blog combined with exclusive insight from a variety of industry influencers. Industrious was the winner of the Best Content Marketing Campaign at the B2B Awards USA in 2018, and offers a compelling example of how a large B2B firm is delivering great customer experiences. IBM senior vice president of digital sales and chief marketing officer Michelle Peluso recently offered insight into some of the ways IBM has worked to deliver more agile experiences both internally and on the customer experience front. You can hear her episode of The CMO Podcast here. [bctt tweet="“Client and customer needs are changing at a very rapid pace. We want to make sure IBM is interacting with the people who use our systems, software and services—not just the person making the purchase decisions.” @MichelleaPeluso" username="toprank"] Adding relevant influencer content is a proven method to drive engagement, build trust, and create digital experiences that are truly interesting and helpful. [bctt tweet="“It’s not enough to simply make people aware of our brands — we need to instill an immediate sense of credibility, so that trust is being established in the very first interactions.” — Nick Nelson @NickNelsonMN" username="toprank"]

Motherhood can strip away your identity. Here’s how to get it back!
Annie Ridout is founder and editor of The Early Hour – a digital parenting and lifestyle magazine for people who are up early. I was introduced to Annie last year when she ran a story about our family gap year on her site, and we have stayed in touch ever since. She is also a freelance journalist (the Guardian, Red Magazine, Stylist), copywriter and speaker. She has two children (a three-year-old daughter, and nine-month-old son).
Annie reached out to us and offered to give us her expert tips for regaining her sense of self after becoming a mother, and we thought this would be a wonderful topic for our Tuesday Tips series. I love her tips below — especially the one about spending two hours alone each week. I could not agree more about how beneficial it is to have time to yourself! Read below for more great tips (and feel free to leave your own tips in the comments section below!)…
……………….
When my daughter was born, I was instantly infatuated. She amazed me in every way possible; I’d never known love like this. It was powerful. But her birth coincided with the loss of my full time job as a copywriter (I was freelance, so had no maternity rights).
Until this point, my social identity had been largely associated with how I was spending my time. For the past few years, I’d been a freelance writer. Before that, a Masters student. And now I was a mother. An incredible job, a rewarding and fulfilling job, but it felt like ‘mother’ didn’t encompass the whole me.
When my daughter was 10 months old, I started working two days a week for an online magazine. The following year, I set up my own (The Early Hour). Now people saw me as a writer and editor again – and I began to feel more visible. It added a new layer to my life.
It’s ludicrous that full time mothers should feel as if what they’re doing doesn’t matter, but that is often the reality. We’re not paid for our work. I know how it feels to submit fully to motherhood, but then feel you’d like something additional, for yourself, that doesn’t involve your children. If you feel similarly, these tips may help…
Here’s how to regain your sense of self as a mother:
1. Spend two hours alone, each week
Two hours sounds like nothing, right? Well you’d be amazed how few hours you get entirely to yourself each week. What with the baby that won’t sleep, toddler who wants another snack, partner wanting to offload his work issues. So set aside two hours and leave the house.
If you’re in a relationship, ask your partner to put this time in his diary – he’s on child duty. And go for a walk, or to the cinema alone, or for a coffee and to read your book. If you’re a single parent, ask a friend or family member to help out for two hours; it’s a tiny favour to ask. You could even do a swap.
2. Write down your goals and dreams
What does your perfect future look like? Would you like to live in another country, in a bigger house, out in the countryside, or in a bustling city? Would you like another baby, or a new job? Do you dream of starting your own business? Get it down on paper.
Create a mood board with images (cut out of magazines, printed off Pinterest) or draw a picture. If you’re not feeling creative, simply write a list. Once you’ve committed it to paper, you’ll automatically make changes to your life to enable these things to happen. You’ll be amazed.
3. Make a new friend
As a mother, you’re faced with loads of potential new friends, but you may not feel hugely confident when it comes to introducing yourself. However, that mother across the room at soft play is probably feeling EXACTLY how you are: a bit lost, keen for a new mum friend.
So get talking to her. If you don’t know what to ask, start with her child’s age or name. Or tell her something about your kid (eg. my daughter always heads for the ball pit first. My son loves to just sit and watch from the sidelines). A new friend can feel as exciting as a new love interest.
4. Take a look at your wardrobe
If you’re slumping around in tracksuit bottoms and old trainers, you probably won’t feel your best. Putting on a new outfit can make you feel (and look) like a completely different person. It’s great for self-esteem. So get some new clothes, and feel transformed.
You don’t need to buy expensive designer wares, you could raid the rails at your local charity shop, pick something up on Ebay or borrow a sewing machine and make something. You can find inspiration here on Babyccino or on Pinterest.
5. Ask your friends for help
Sometimes motherhood can feel like an endless list of chores; like you are simply the person who puts food on the table, laundry on the line, washes dishes and fills out forms. But to your friends, you’re much more than that. So ask them what you mean to them.
Meet a friend for a coffee and tell them you can’t remember who you were before you became a mother. Ask them what three words they’d have used to describe the ‘old’ you. That might be ‘fun’, ‘spontaneous’, ‘reliable’, ‘kind’. Now remember: you are still all these things, alongside being a mum.

9 Reasons to Love Bullmastiffs
Bullmastiffs are the perfect example of a gentle giant in the dog world: muscular and powerful, yet faithful and kind unless provoked. He is an English creation that has found a loyal following in this country. Here are 9 fun factoids about the strong and silent Bullmastiff.
A close up of a Bullmastiff. Photography by DNSPhotography/Thinkstock.
1. Bullmastiffs were developed for a need
What we know of the Bullmastiff’s history dates back to mid-19th century England. Gamekeepers needed a dog that would help them rid the large estates and game preserves of poachers; one that could cover ground quietly and pin the trespassers without harming them. Breeders crossed the Mastiff with the now-extinct Old English Bulldog to ultimately come up with the Bullmastiff.
2. They’re a blend of Mastiffs and Bulldogs perfect recipe
The Bullmastiff represents an ideal blend of 60 percent Mastiff and 40 percent Bulldog. The gamekeepers’ goal was to create a dog that was faster and more aggressive than the Mastiff, yet bigger and less ferocious than the Old English Bulldog.
3. Bullmastiffs are very adaptable
This is a sizeable breed, with adult males reaching a height of 25 to 27 inches at the shoulder and weighing 110 to 130 pounds; females reaching a height of 24 to 26 inches at the shoulder and weighing 100 to 120 pounds. Yet Bullmastiffs are mellow and laid-back, not requiring much grooming or exercise, and they make wonderful companions for urban owners, adapting well even to apartment living. They are quiet dogs and rarely bark.
4. They’ve got great temperaments
The breed standard for the Bullmastiff describes its temperament as “fearless and confident yet docile. The dog combines the reliability, intelligence and willingness to please required in a dependable family companion and protector.” They are a lovely companion to live with, gentle with the smallest child yet exuding an air of protective authority.

5. Bullmastiffs are very easy to train
Bullmastiffs are powerful dogs, yet sensitive. Given the breed’s strength and inclination to be independent, early socialization and training are essential. Bullmastiffs are natural guardians of their people and property. No guard training is necessary; a Bullmastiff will respond appropriately if its family is threatened.
6. They come in a few different colors
The most common color seen in Bullmastiffs is fawn with a black face mask. Bullmastiffs also come in darker red shades. Brindle Bullmastiffs have black stripes over a fawn or red background. Although they are less often seen today, the dark brindles were preferred by the gamekeepers who created the breed. The stripes provided the dogs with better camouflage, particularly at night, hence the breed’s nickname of Gamekeeper’s Night Dog.
7. Bullmastiffs have shorter life spans
For all the Bullmastiff’s virtues as a devoted companion and guardian, he shares with many other large- and giant-sized breeds the heartbreak of a shorter life span. While there are exceptions, a Bullmastiff typically lives for 7 to 8 years.
8. The Rocky movies popularized Bullmastiffs
Many dog-loving movie fans got their first look at a Bullmastiff in Sylvester Stallone’s original Rocky. The down-and-out boxer had a Bullmastiff sidekick. Interestingly, it was Sly Stallone’s own dog, Butkus.
9. Other celebrity Bullmastiffs
Singer and songwriter Bob Dylan owned a Bullmastiff, Brutus, who appeared regularly with him. In the reality TV series Little People Big World, the Roloff family owned a Bullmastiff named Rocky. And in the world of sports, the Cleveland Browns football team has a Bullmastiff named Swagger as its live mascot.
