✩ The Duvalls sold their house in Oklahoma after her father’s last term as mayor. Moving to Woodstock with the intention to climb up the political ladder, Hank Duvall used their savings to buy a big home in a safe, affluent part of town. Nellie’s new room was a selling point in their move, and was a fifteen year old’s dream. Living in it for ten years has made it where she feels the most herself. The Duvall’s house has a white picket fence and enough room that makes it easy for Nellie to still live at home (not having to pay rent helps). Her room is on the second floor away from her folks with an en suite dressed in 50s decor, so believe it or not, the bathroom was pink before they moved in. Centered in the room is her bed draped in a sheer canopy and while she has a few mirrors and niche corners, her vanity supports a large mirror and a chair made for a princess. The one window in her room is large and opens up to a ledge she's much too scared to sit on. Her favorite corner has a white desk with a sewing machine on it where she Nellie-fies her clothes, and a mannequin bust that doubles as a cowboy-hat-coat-rack. *𝓅𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇𝑒𝓈𝓉*  ✩

✩ what’s in your muse’s junk drawer? 

Nellie’s vanity is riddled with trinkets and makeup, her hair brush and curl rollers, jewelry and knick-knacks. Nellie’s junk drawer resides near her sewing machine and is filled with loose gems, bedazzling leftovers, small cuts of fabric, and her favorite glitter gel pens. Nellie has a picture of her and her parents when she was six in Chattanooga for a contest. She’s in Pa’s arms while he’s mid-sneeze and her mother looks to the side off-frame; she doesn’t know why but it’s one of her favorite photos. 

✩ if there was a fire, what are the top 2 things your muse would rescue from their room? 

Top two frequent visitors in her room that Nellie would save first are her two pets, a lethargic family cat she’s had since her childhood named Twiggy, and a bunny she got some time in Woodstock she calls Chiquitita, pronounced as incorrectly as you’d imagine. If we’re talking about material items, however, she’d probably save her one of a kind signature leather boots and her pink guitar with the heart shaped sound hole. That’s what she’d grab in a hurry if there was a fire, so RIP to the stuffed lamb she’s had since she was a baby. You’ll be missed, Snowy. 

✩ how often do they clean it? what’s hanging on their walls? 

Aside from the top of her vanity and her sewing corner, Nellie keeps her room pretty pristine. Her floors stay clean and her prized possessions, her clothes, stay hung and taken care of. Because of this her walls house only a few items, mostly taped up around her vanity or pieces left up since she was younger. On a few shelving units are knick-knacks from the decades, gifts from friends, a glass box with her prom queen tiara from high school, her last pageant trophy, a pink pair of heels used solely for display, and a pink radio cassette player. Aside from a few photos and a cross, Nellie has a large poster of Dolly Parton from the 70s. Sometimes she asks it for advice before she even turns to Jesus. 

✩ what’s on their bedside table? 

Matching end tables on both sides of her bed, on one she leaves her eye mask, the most recent volume of her favorite magazine, her lamp, and a fuzzy pink telephone. The second one holds a record player and on the bottom are records she’s collected over the years, a majority of which she got in the past year at volume.

✩ do they keep anything in their room that they wouldn’t want anyone else to see?

In the drawer of one of her bedside tables she has some old receipts from the past year, since she’s started trying to keep track of her finances ever since being cut off. If they prove anything it’s that she’s been terrible at saving her money, and her father wouldn’t be proud. In a box in her closet are hoarded wine bottles for me-nights, and she would rather not have her folks know she’s drinking so much in her room dancing alone to ABBA. There’s some paperwork from a court house out of town neatly tucked within a folder in her bedside table. *c*
