♡ིྀ a really active member in the sakamaki household. looks for shu for dinner and has conversations with her while walking to the dining room, helps reiji clean in his lab (she’s hoping she can graduate to washing dishes soon), hypes up ayato to finish his homework, keeps laito company in the game room, listens to kanato talk about the process of making dolls, walks silently with subaru in the garden at night

aight so uhh lil spontaneous positive rant about OFF rpg bc it’s 1AM and I’m having feelings

bro OFF has that magic that makes me fall for it all over again even if I have,, rewatched it gazillion of times. I religiously rewatch it every year (hush it’s my comfort game), yet it never fails to amaze me and punch me in the gut. Reading theories and fan interpretations of the story and the characters is always fun to read, they’re all absolutely valid and mind-blowing every time.

And every time I take a lil check back in the fandom, I find there’s ppl who still make animations abt it, who makes song remixes with other vgm (undertale x off ost is such a king-to-king crossover), and I learn new stuff like Papyrus was inspired by Dedan’s design? Batter is apparently a beast in battles when in Auto and the Player is probs just holding him back bc he lets you control him? the Bad Batter was confirmed ace?? Batterie is possible in “an alternate universe” confirmed like BRO??? (so does that mean Batterie in fanfics is canon and is validated by the creator bc fanfics are technically kinda like AUs if we treat the game as the canon verse and fanfics as alternate universe -)

Anyways, one thing that blew my small little child brain when I was younger and I just first discovered OFF was the idea of an “unreliable narrator.” I felt so betrayed then, and tbh rewatching it yearly, it still blows my freaking mind. Bad Batter reveal was PERFECT, and it wasn’t some random twist in the end, it was a long build up and the game was dropping hints - it gives the Player ample time to think for themselves. When you return to the purified zones, that’s when the Batter’s motives become questionable, but you still put faith in him bc while purification of the zones seems like a shady mission, he isn’t wrong about eradicating spectres (who ARE hostile) and the Guardians aren’t good either so whatever the Batter is doing still seems like the right decision. The game makes you think it’s a black-and-white “hero vs. villains” when really, everyone is in the grey area, and it becomes especially clear that it is when we found out about the whole Hugo situation. It’s like, every character, including the Guardians, had good intentions at some points but they’re also flawed, and I think the flawed characterization is so beautiful because it made the characters complex and it makes you understand why they’re acting this way or how did they become this way. Tbh there’s so so much to say about each character and their symbolisms but i dont have the brain capacity for deep thinking and analysis like other OFF fans (bless yall btw)

And bro,, the art? the music? Straight up FIRE. The spectre designs are so cool I based off my whole personality off of it at some point when I was younger. But no joke, I was super influenced by Mortis’ artstyle. My love for sketchy pencil art style and concept art; my preference of colorless drawings; my fascination for surreal/body horror, foreshortening and perspective all started with my little caveman brain discovering OFF. I straight up saw OFF art and said “wow. I wanna do something like that.” And lord, the music - someone hold me back. It just as influential to my music taste as the art did to my art style. I never really stopped listening to the soundtrack throughout the years, even if I never check back in the fandom, I still listen to it. My appreciation for percussion went really high after hearing the OFF ost. My habit of checking out video game ost after seeing a game also started with OFF ost, bc what if I miss out another bomb soundtrack like OFF, right? Pepper Steak was my first exposure to Electro Swing, and man I’m so glad bc now Electro Swing is one of my fav genres. Brain Plague ost is very brain (heh) stimulating, it’s literally addicting to listen to?? And the music also did very well in complementing the areas of the game, it added a whole new atmosphere and god don’t you just love it when music does that little magic. The game’s aesthetic is solid and coherent in both the art and music, like what a teamwork! I defo want to do something like that if I create my own game (possibly, I hope my future allows it)

Tbh there’s so much more I can say about this game, but I’m not very good at constructing a professional and coherent analysis or whatever. And this is all first draft so

TL;DR : OFF is very iconic and definitely one of the best rpg games ever bestowed upon Earth, and I love it forever no joke Im having feelings for it again

A (kinda angry) rant about Baby Batcat in Gotham

I wrote the original rant 1am after I spoiled what happened for myself and I hadn’t even watched the episode yet (because I am so over this show I do not care about spoiling it plus I have homework) and I was really upset. Now I am caught up and fun fact, I AM STILL UPSET! But at least now I can make more sense.

Also, a couple warnings: 

1. I care about a total of 4 characters in this whole show: Bruce Wayne, Selina Kyle, Alfred Pennyworth, and Edward. Not Edward as in Nygma, Edward as in Penguin’s dog.

2. I will be the first to admit this rant is angry and full of emotion, but I stand by my points made at this time. I am very passionate about this ship (if that wasn’t obvious enough)

SO MY FRIENDS......

AFTER 4 SEASONS OF SHIPPINNG BABY BATCAT, GETTING BASICALLY NOTHING, THEN HAVING THE LOVE AND ADORATION PILED ON THIS SEASON BETWEEN THESE CHARACTERS, ONLY TO HAVE HIM ABONDON HER!! WITH A LETTER!!! LIKE WTF!! THAT IS NOT THE TYPE OF PERSON THIS BRUCE WAYNE IS!!

HE EVEN SAID GOODBYE TO GORDON IN PERSON. AND ALFRED!! BULLSHIT THAT HE WOULDN’T SAY GOODBYE TO SELINA!! (I could literally cry, I am so mad and sad because of how dirty the writers did Selina. I love her sO mUCH. FIGHT ME WRITERS)

Look....,,,, I’ve never read the comics and I’m honestly not that big of a Batman fan, but network comic book tv shows are never close to the canon of the comics. I watch almost of all the D.C. network shows and I see people complain about the canon being soooooo different, this is a WELL. KNOWN. FACT. WHICH MEANS the writers didn’t have to make Bruce leave, abandon not only Selina, the actual love of his life (as let me say it again for the people in the back THE AMOUNT OF BABY BATCAT WE GOT THIS SEASON SHOWS THE AMOUNT OF LOVE, yES LOVE, THESE TWO HAVE FOR EACH OTHER)  and Alfred, the man who fucking RAISED HIM and is currently VERY BROKEN IN PURSUIT OF PROTECTING NOT ONLY BRUCE BUT LEE, SELINA, BARBARA, AND BABY BARBARA is ridiculous and absurd.

Sure, Bruce pushed both Selina and Alfred away through the seasons, but this season??? So. Much. LOVE. For both Alfred and Selina. I have no doubt in my mind Bruce didn’t have to leave like this in the show.

The first reason is because Gotham will always need him, because it is a shitty city. CMON MAN, your parents were murdered before you even hit puberty, if Gotham needs a hero, it needed him/her a while ago.

The second reason is if Bruce needed to train more (plus the writers could easily add more trauma by killing a fly in front of this boy he’s so sensitive and soft), I feel like it wouldn’t be that hard. Not only because Gotham is a shit show of a city, Alfred, Jim, and pretty much everyone in this city have defended themselves and are trained in life and fighting.  Also like?? Take Selina with you. Bruce leaving isn’t going to protect her any more than if he’d stay in Gotham, also she could learn with you. PLUS, Selina/Catwoman is literally more badass than Bruce/Batman will ever be, she can literally protect herself.

ALSO, Selina motherfucking Kyle let Bruce motherfucking Wayne into her heart, put her guard down for him, and shared her love, and he returns the favor by doing the same for a little while, then writing a note to her??? Even though he 100% knew what that would do to her.  While I do think this Bruce Wayne is clueless and has his own weird tunnel vision, I really don’t think he is an asshole who doesn’t consider other peoples’ feelings. ESPECIALLY because he is older now. When he yelled at Selina in the hospital after Bruce stabbed Alfred, he was a scared kid. Now they are adults, not only in age, but in life considering what they have gone through in this season alone.

I am currently watching the episode and Selina VOLUENTEERED TO BRING THE BOMB TO WAYNE ENTERPRISES WITH BRUCE!! Not only as backup, but I am willing to bet THIS ENTIRE BLOG because she knew it would be incredibly hard for him to blow up one of the last remaining things his parents built. IF THAT’S NOT LOVE I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS!!!

It would be one thing if they didn’t pile on the love this season. If that didn’t happen, I see why he would do this. It would be another thing if, you consider the comics at all, I didn’t know that Selina and Bruce get married and have a kid (which shows that even though Bruce is Batman he still loves Selina enough to marry her and “put her in harm’s way” in his definition) BUT GUESS WHAT??? I DO KNOW THAT AND THE WRITERS DID PUT ALL THE LOVE IN.

Bruce loves Gotham, but in my opinion, they did not stress that enough, they literally only focused on his love for Selina and Alfred. So, don’t be starting this “stereotypical” Batman shit when it’s obvious that this Bruce is different from the stereotypical Batman of the comics. THEREFORE, THE BRUCE THESE WRITERS MADE HIM TO BE IN THIS SHOW IS NOT THE BRUCE WHO WOULD LEAVE SELINA, ALFRED, OR EVEN GOTHAM BEHIND!!!!

And the fact of the matter is that it would be okay if Bruce did not leave Gotham behind in the show, because that is not the Bruce these writers made him to be. What is the point to make him one way, develop his character to be one who literally runs into dangers fists armed and dangerous, only for him to run away from Gotham when they actually need him? When it is being rebuilt after all this chaos.

I know that tv shows’ goal is to make it thrilling and heart wrenching, but the show is over. And this is network television. And it is not coming back. Plus, once the third season hits the show sucks. It’s no longer about art anymore at all, it’s all about the money for Warner Brothers and the fans who are so in love with the characters that they still watch (like me bitch). So, even though I fully admit to not being a Batman fan and knowing nothing about the comics, I stand by the fact Bruce leaving is bullshit, because that is not how the writers wrote THIS BRUCE to be. I have spent the last couple months so sad this show was ending and even though I KNEW something like this would happen, I still had hoped my babies would be okay.

NOPE.

Instead I got a Jim and Lee wedding that I didn’t ask for, a baby Barbara I didn’t ask for, Tabitha, a strong female lead, being killed in the first episode that i diDN’T aSK fOR, and shitty writing that has thrown one of my favorite ships in a tv show ever in the trash where it doesn’t deserve to be.

My only hope is that the next episode we have “I will be here whenever you need me” promise be used. Because I do not think I will pass my exams if they don’t reunite and it be somewhat happy.

I am also so devasted that the last time I will ever see Camren Bicondova play Selina Kyle. THIS FRAME RIGHT HERE.

A devasted look because Bruce Wayne was an asshole and left her and Gotham behind because dumb reasons only told to her on a letter.

I read her letter to the fans and I honestly love her even more because it is so obvious she cares so deeply for her character. I’m not even that mad that she won’t be portraying her in the final episode. Thank you, Camren, for everything you gave to this character. I wish they hadn’t fucked her over so hard.

In conclusion, fuck the writers of Gotham. You are inconsistent with your characters, want so badly to be accepted by the Batman community in a comic retrospect that you throw all character development in the trash to match up with the comics ever so slightly at random times, and you made my heart break in two.

i’m still developing Some of her background, but from a young age, she was rather creative and energetic

with two parents working in non-stem fields, her mother especially was always enthusiastic when cami too seemed more interested in the arts

she was imaginative, so much so that her in-class journal entries mirrored her ( day ) dreams more than reality — to her teacher’s slight displeasure if it strayed from a given topic — and that she immersed herself into the worlds she would create for her dolls

one of those kids who was VERY attached to their ipod when she got one, music had always been a cherished friend yet an unexplored outlet at the time

a film junkie from a young age, she also loves being able to see the worlds other people create visually and you’ll often find her watching whichever new or old release that came to mind earlier in the day — almost totally entranced, good luck getting her undivided attention in the meantime !

wasn’t the Most outgoing kid back then, but by high school she slowly became the girl who got involved in the smaller roles of student council before moving up to vp, as well as being part of the drama club and prom committee during her senior year

basically, she was destined for a social career, especially something which let her creativity flourish.. but then she applied to ucla’s engineering faculty —

SFGLJGFD to say her parents were shocked is kind of an understatement ! no one would think that she’d pursue such a field yet here she was.. going for it !

hearing many people talk about which careers were worth it financially seemed to erase her parents’ encouragement to follow her ( core ) desires, though at the time, camille genuinely thought it was a path she’d grow to like once she began to experience it — having already envisioned the ways she’d try to work around any difficulties she’d have

but come her first year, she’d realize she played herself in more ways than one

a diligent student throughout this period, she did begin to rebel a little, socializing and partying often and basically picking up from where she left off in high school with a couple of clubs. however, she could tell that she was struggling with her stem courses, while she was performing well with her required english course — and she could tell even at that point that she Fucked Up

so when she bombed a couple of those courses for her major by the end of that first year, she took a step back for a year to reanalyze her options.. and about five years later with some additional exploration into her interests, she’s on the cusp of graduating with an english major and a minor in film !

to say that she’s scared of what’s to come is Valid; so she’s glad that she can have this vacation to just relax with her friends and let the stress roll off her shoulders for the time being. and being able to let her inner world-class traveler finally see the light of day is just a bonus !

PERSONALITY AND OTHER SHIT

she’s.. an odd one to crack, that’s for sure

she’s very much a lively person, always curious and ready for the next adventure — big or small

she’s all about going out and having a good time, drunk or sober, and allowing herself the little luxuries in her life, like walks around the city or treating herself to a sheet or cream face mask and a glass of wine on a night in

but she’s level-headed enough to know when to take the occasional step back from certain things incorporated into her lifestyle.. for the most part

she’s totally diligent in what she loves, be it running that open mic night, any writing she does, her school work, bringing people together for an event, etc. she gets quite carried away at times, even stressed over what she produces from some of these things, and 

in spite of her more social and active lifestyle, she is a little more on the responsible side, not one to exceed her limits or convince someone to neglect theirs

her word isn’t gospel, but you’ll have a rough go of trying to change her mind on something ! pretty stubborn in some areas

uhh straightforward — 94% of the time, at least gfsdk — and would definitely snap back at some people if she didn’t have some solid self-restraint

needs a hug sometimes ! an indiscreetly discreet emo bitch beneath her brighter attitude !

she’s a cancer.. so that might explain That

loves the smell and sound of the rain, perhaps the most relaxing thing to her

she loves, loves r&b, but also has an appreciation for many other genres.. except country and metal/screamo/just rly loud rock music gsdjlkf

Gosh, I never did post my con report for Ice and Fire Con, did I? Well, 3 weeks past, but hopefully not too late...

4/26, Thursday evening: Arrived in Columbus airport. While packing my big-ass suitcase for the con Wednesday night Thursday morning, I realized my white makeup had somehow disappeared, but I looked up a Party City in a Columbus suburb that had some. (Didn’t have time to go shopping on my way to the Chicago airport.) So, having figured that I could rent a car for the whole weekend for less than the price of a Lyft from the airport to the lodge, I did so, found that shop, bought that makeup, and had a lovely drive to Deer Creek State Park. Approaching the park, I found the name was very accurate, as a deer was crossing the road on the way there, in a very stupid way. “Should I jump the fence? Or go back in the road and wander everywhere? Durhurhur!” Finally he got a clue and I moved on, only for another car to zoom around me like I was standing still. That’s how you get deer through your windshield, son.

But anyway, got to Deer Creek Lodge by 9ish, got my room and registered and all, and started seeing people I’d met last year. Chloe (@liesandarbor) and Emmett (@poorquentyn) and Wendy (@wendynerdwrites) and Jim (@warsofasoiaf) and all, as well as others who I don’t think have tumblrs (or I don’t know them) but are excellent folk. And I heard there was an unofficial party that night, thrown at the cabin of the Chicago boys (who I don’t know actually), same as last year, so I headed down that way. This year the party was in support of one of their fellows who’s getting married, a Stag and Doe party, with raffle tickets and games, so it was extra fun, besides the drinking and all. :)

Picked up a raffle package that included a blue rose flower crown, and had a moment when I met Tara (@ageeksaga) and she thought I was Wendy, lol. I was like, nope, sorry, I’m the other short brunette Jewish fandom fave from tumblr who’s dating a guy named Jim. (And who sometimes wears blue rose flower crowns.) She was tired, it’s hard getting this con ready, I didn’t blame her at all, but lol. :)  Also at the party was Michael (@1000eyesandone) and his wife Adrienne, who are awesome people who I met at last year’s con, and ended up hanging around a lot with this year. Anyway, after a night of drinks and meeting people and drinking and chatting and drinking and games and drinking and winning tickets and putting them in the raffle prize choices (there were many cool prizes but only a few that I really wanted so I put most of my tickets in those), they had the raffle, about 1am I think, and I won a prize! Woo, chocolate and popcorn and bath bombs and other relaxing things. And then I was tired so walked back to the lodge with a bunch of other people, did a tiny tumblr update, and collapsed into bed.

4/27, Friday: The con officially opened today, and I got up late but made it to the second half of the ice breaker opening thing. They had the bingo where you’re supposed to find people who meet the qualifications for the bingo square (newbie to @iceandfirecon, newbie to cons in general, prefer direwolves to dragons or vice versa, have a particular fave house, are a shipper - I volunteered a lot for that one, and so on), and also that game where you have a name on your forehead and you have to guess who it is (I was Janos Slynt, joy), and I met some very neat people. Then I went down by the lake (or creek, I guess?) for my picture with a wolf! And here, some more pictures:

Caught lunch with Wendy and Jim and Michael and Adrienne, then I went to the Q&A panel given by the Ironwood Wolves people, where they talked about the education work they do with their ambassador wolves, and what wolf behavior is like, and all that interesting stuff (watch the video, there’s a sweet sleepy wolf in it). Got some pictures of the lake, went to the History of Westeros meetup for a bit (I have a processing thing with podcasts so I can’t listen to them, but Ashaya and Aziz are the most excellent people), and soon it was time for the @asoiafuniversity meetup panel with me and Emmett.

Alas, we were up against Quiplash in the big conference room, and I don’t think the schedule was that clear unfortunately, so we didn’t have many people showing. (Unlike last year where we got a pretty good crowd!) But for those who did come, we explained what we do, and discussed some meta topics, and it was really nice. Then I caught the end of Quiplash, which is kind of a Cards Against Humanity -type online party game where you write the answers and the audience votes... well, it’s fun, and I got to be in the last answer panel, and even had an answer some people liked. :)

Went over to the vendor room and saw so many gorgeous things, ASOIAF art and statuettes and cloaks and such, but the only thing I bought was butterfly fairy wing earrings. (Which I think takes my number of butterfly earrings up to... 10 maybe? I have a lot.) Then as it was starting to get dark I went back to my room and got ready for Shabbos (had the room key situation arranged with the hotel staff, since my Jim wasn’t at the con), and then... it was time for IaFcon’s first musical!

Inspired by the awesome performance of Tara and Brian last year in D&D’s “You’re Welcome”, this year the crew put on WESTEROS, a tribute/parody of Hamilton. And oh my gosh it was sooo good. You should watch it, honest. (@draganchitsa, I spent half the time thinking of you.) Of course the costumes and casting were excellent, and there were some truly fantastic lines, all telling the KL story from the start of AGOT to the Battle of the Blackwater... Including one last song for the shippers among us, heehee, oh gosh I was covering my face and blushing the whole time. :) :) :)

Then dinner with Wendy and Jim and Emmett, then back to the con room for karaoke. :D  As it was Shabbos I didn’t perform myself (didn’t want to deal with not using the mic and stuff), but I sang along with everybody, including when Michael did Head Like a Hole to the music of Call Me Maybe, which was hilarious. ;) That ended about midnight, and I headed back for sleep, as big day Saturday... or should I call it... Weirwood Day!

4/28, Saturday: Got up early(-ish) to get my weirwood tree costume ready. :) My makeup, since I’m not that often a cosplayer (like almost never), took a while (took forever, didn’t get to two panels I wanted to see, thankfully they’re on youtube now), and I had a panel I was actually on at 1pm and I still hadn’t put the bloody tears on at almost 12:30... So I dressed up and wigged up and leafed up, and headed out, got stopped on the way for a picture, got to the panel just a wee bit late... but still, it was an excellent panel, all about the animal symbolism in ASOIAF, lots of discussion of direwolves and how they interrelate to the Stark kids; as well as other houses, dragons, lions, krakens, bears, birds, trout... all that sort of thing. The panel’s up here on youtube if you want to see me as a white-and-red dorkus talking about direwolves. :)

Then there was the tourney, outside, which looked awesome, but it was coooold out and I still wasn’t quite done with my costume, so I went back to my room and had lunch and got finished up (occasionally glancing out the window since my lodge room had a tiny corner of a view of the tourney field), and finally... finally I was ready. :D 

Headed toward the con rooms with a big backpack full of art books for my panel (that was going to be after the costume parade, and I so didn’t want to go back and forth), as well as my bag full of ravens. :D   On the way, had a selfie with Ashaya (@buskerlenny), who had an excellent Danelle Lothston costume. Made it in time to catch the end of Emmett and Silas’s panel on Lovecraft Mythos and ASOIAF, listening while I checked that my leaves and ravens were all arranged properly. (Next time safety pins maybe?) And soon other cosplayers started coming in, including the lovely older lady who was such a perfect Old Nan last year -- this year she was the Ghost of High Heart, with a weirwood-print dress, and she was delighted to see me. :D  She had a photo taken with her sitting and me standing (as a tree) behind her, which I haven’t seen but hope shows up one of these days, it should be so neat.

And then the costume parade! So many amazing costumes, so much fun. While we were waiting to line up, I actually started tearing up (because of my contacts, eyeliner, mascara, god knows), but consensus among those who looked at me that it really didn’t hurt my makeup much and really fit the crying-tree look? so hey. :)  Last year in the parade people stopped to do performances, but this year they separated out the performances till after the parade (and the voting only for that), so it moved pretty quickly. But I got a lot of applause for my weirwood, especially when I lifted up my “branches” with the ravens on them. And I heard someone say that if they had been doing voting, I probably would have won, which is really really nice. :D :D :D

Then I sat down for the performances, and oh my gosh. There was a Rohanne vs. Dunk rap battle (with shoutout to Jaime/Brienne lol), a Brienne vs bear fight (set to the Bear and the Maiden Fair of course), Chloe did a parody of Free Fallin’ (with Lyanna and Ashara themes *wince*), and there was Michael as Tom O’Sevens singing Edmure’s Floppy Fish song that had everybody lol’ing... but the room went dead quiet in awe for Septon Meribald’s Broken Man speech. Damn. (And yeah, I cried some more.)

And then there was my and Ashaya’s panel on the history of ASOIAF fanart, also with artists @sanrixian and @palewhiterabbit. It went really well, I think, lots of cool info... I brought my Art of Ice and Fire books, the D&E graphic novels, and some @kallielef and bubug prints (also one of @chaouenmadrid’s sansan books), Ashaya had Draw ‘Em With the Pointy End and another art book... but alas, we were up against the trivia contest in the big conference room, so again not that much of a crowd. (Someone asked me if I was cross-scheduled because Emmett and Wendy and I won trivia last year, idk lol, other people won too.) But anyway, the people who were there for the panel seemed to like it a lot -- not sure if it was filmed, but if it was I’ll put up the video eventually. Or maybe I could write down my mental notes, if you like.

Afterwards, I headed back to my room for dinner, and when Shabbos was over I took a few selfies (including some duckfaces for Kelly Sue DeConnick, whose costume inspired mine), and then washed up. Because party time!

I have few mental notes for the Flea Bottom Fete, alas. Just that it was a hell of a lot of fun, tons of great music (having a convo in the hallway, “oh wait this is my song, gotta dance”), people’s party cosplays were hilarious -- I recall Michael’s punk Bloodraven, there was a group of sexy Greyjoys, Tara had party Cersei, a bunch of girls came with a Qarth dress theme, and of course there was stripper RobbWind... and, well, there was a bar. :)  (And also someone brought macarons, nom nom nom.)

4/29, Sunday: I had to check out by noon. I had a panel to give at noon. I managed to get packed up, check out, put my suitcase in the car, and make it on time for this panel, coffee’d up and everything. I consider that a grand success. And then in the very excellent panel (on GRRM’s many other works, with me and Aziz and Amin Javadi and one of the con volunteers I didn’t catch his name augh), I managed to actually sell a few people on reading Wild Cards, I think. Truly a success. :D  And then the closing ceremonies were lovely -- and the wolf puppy from the photos that were taken Sunday even came, oh my gosh he was so cute... but sigh, alas the con was over for me.

I’d left a note on the Facebook group that I’d rented a car and could take up to 3 people back to the airport for an afternoon flight, and a few girls had contacted me that morning to take me up on the offer. So that was a nice trip. :) Returned the rental easy, caught my short flight easy, and was back in Chicago by Sunday evening to watch Avengers and get dinner with my @jimintomystery. A lovely weekend, full of ASOIAF and friends and fun, I truly hope to do it again next year!

Oh Barcelona.

After over a month of being back from Europe I am finally sitting down to re-cap to you all about what went down. this is the second post I’m doing for on a budget, in a backpack. If you missed the first one you can check it out here.

We arrived into Barcelona very early morning on May 11th (literally very early, like 2am early). Getting to our hostel wasn’t the easiest experience I’ve ever had. We had purchased the Hola Barcelona pass before we arrived and we had to pick it up at the airport but that was a whole ordeal. After over an hour of trying to make that work we ended up on a bus that dropped us into a sketchy part of the city at 1am. After a series events (including a creepy taxi driving trying to convince us to get in his car) we called an Uber who was AMAZING and took us right to our hostel. And just to continue this great ride, we got to the hostel and were told the hot water was broken in the building and they didn’t know when it would be back…awesome.

With all of that aside we woke up at 8am on the 11th to make our 10am ticket appointment at Casa Batlló. We first came to an adorable coffee shop and got some croissants for breakfast! (can you spot the rainbow on the floor??)

Because we were really early for our ticket appointment we wandered around the area to get an idea of where everything was.

Once it hit around 10am we went into the museum. To me, the coolest part of the museum was the fact that there was an art exhibit going on. You can see a picture above of Tori and I standing in front of a LOVE sign that was apart of the exhibit.

How amazing is some of this art? It all emulated the stages are parts of love. You can click on the pictures individually to make them bigger (and I totally recommend you do). Probably my favorite thing was the bench that said “this is where we end our relationshit”

After exploring the Casa we made out way over the Flax and Kale which was a restaurant Tori had found that was Vegan & GF friendly! At first I was hesitant because I was worried It wouldn’t be “traditional” and I would be getting a generic meal that I could get back home. But this place was SO good! We ended up going back a few times. I got a “Traditional” Spanish soup (literally thats what it was called on the menu!) and an ahi tuna taco which was AMAZING, I’m actually craving it now that I’m home. After lunch we went to Las Ramblas briefly but we didn’t stay long. Then we made our way over to Sagrada Família which was HUGE. We turned the corner out of the subway station and I think all of our jaws dropped. You really can’t tell how big it is until you’re in front of it yourself.

We spent the rest of the day wandering until it was time to go to Parc Güell which we had a ticket for that night! The park is free to enter and wander around but it costs money to get to that part that you see in all of the pictures. Unfortunately most of the benches were under construction when we went! You can see in the picture of the three of us that there is a fence because half of the promenade is completely torn apart! With that being said it was still BEAUTIFUL and Tori made the smart choice to book us the last ticket of the day so we could watch the sunset!

We covered A LOT in our first day and that night we went on a pub crawl with our hostel which was super fun and eye opening to Barcelona! *shots shots shots* I’m not a huge party person but I do love a good club which we ended the night at! We also had the funniest bar crawl leader, Juan. He always said that if you were crossing the street and the sign started to blink “You stop, or you run. Or you die” and we basically said that the rest of the trip in every city! Oh Juan ❤

The next day in Barcelona was for sure more chill. We had to move out of our hostel and actually move to a hotel that was closer to the airport for out early morning flight to Rome. It felt like a lot of the day was wasted because #1 we were tired and #2 it took a lot of time to get from the city where our hostel was to the airport where our new hotel was. But we made the best of it by wandering around a beautiful park and seeing the Notre Dame of Barcelona (ya thats a thing, how did I not know that?!). I also got this bomb veggie burger from The Good Burger with some mayo fries!

Takeaways:

Nothing is fun when you are tired, no matter how amazing it is. So sleep!

Barcelona is reasonably priced.

You can basically see everything in Barcelona in one day, but you can’t “experience” everything in one day.

I'm in love now. It feels young and old, it's pure and dirty. It's the easiest thing in the world but so frustrating. Its balance, he's everything I'm not, I'm everything he's not but together it's a whole thing. It's the best thing that's ever happened to me and the also the scariest. It's gut wrenching gratefulness for this blessing.

I'm work shift patterns so it's whatever they need me to be. But I'd say I'm most awake around 6pm - 1am
