Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 To You The 1# Puerto 🇵🇷 Rican Goddess Of The World 🌎 ✨ The Music 🎶 Artist, Dancer, Actress & More, Latina👩🏾🧡🤎 From The Block
Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born on July 24, 1969, in the Bronx, a borough of New York City, and raised in its Castle Hill neighborhood. Her parents, Guadalupe Rodríguez and David Lopez, were born in Puerto Rico and met in New York City.
She is also known by her nickname J.Lo, is an American actress, singer, dancer and businesswoman. Lopez is regarded as one of the most influential Latin entertainers of her time, credited with breaking barriers for Latino Americans in Hollywood and helping propel the Latin pop movement in music. Lopez began her career as a dancer, making her television debut as a Fly Girl on the sketch comedy series In Living Color in 1991. She later rose to prominence as an actress, with leading roles in the films Selena (1997), Anaconda (1997) and Out of Sight (1998) establishing her as the highest-paid Latin actress. The Remixes and This Is Me... Then, the former becoming the first remix album to top the US Billboard 200.
Media scrutiny and the failure of her film Gigli (2003) preceded a career downturn. Her subsequent albums included Rebirth (2005) and Como Ama una Mujer (2007); the latter broke first-week sales records for a debut Spanish album. In 2011, Lopez returned to prominence as a judge on American Idol and released the album Love?. In the latter 2010s, she performed a concert residency, starred in the police drama series Shades of Blue (2016–2018), served as a judge on World of Dance (2017–2020), and garnered critical praise for her performance in the crime drama Hustlers (2019). She has since starred in the films Marry Me (2022), The Mother (2023) and This Is Me... Now: A Love Story (2024).

Jennifer Lynn Lopez (born July 24, 1969), also known as J.Lo, is an American singer, actress, and dancer. In 1991, she began appearing as a Fly Girl dancer on In Living Color, where she remained a regular until she decided to pursue an acting career in 1993. For her first leading role in Selena (1997), she became the first Latin actress to earn over US$1 million for a film. She went on to star in Anaconda (1997) and Out of Sight (1998), and established herself as the highest-paid Latin actress in Hollywood. Lopez ventured into the music industry with her debut studio album On the 6 (1999), which helped propel the Latin pop movement in American music, and later starred in the psychological horror The Cell (2000). With the simultaneous release of her second studio album J.Lo and her romantic comedy The Wedding Planner in 2001, she became the first woman to have a number-one album and film in the same week. Her 2002 release, J to tha L–O! The Remixes, became the first remix album in history to debut atop the US Billboard 200. Later that year, she released her third studio album, This Is Me... Harry Potter’s Shopping Spree with His Not-So-Secret Lover
Harry Potter was sighted this past weekend shopping in Hogsmeade with his Halloween lover, a woman now identified as (Y/N) (Y/L/N). Miss (Y/LN), pictured above in the famed Hogsmeade watering hole the Three Broomsticks, is an ambitious and accomplished young woman. The youngest Muggle Studies professor in history she also boasts an impressive record on her OWLs.
The couple was seen visiting nearly every shop before their stop at the Three Broomsticks. One has to wonder if Miss (Y/L/N) is using Harry Potter for his money and connections.
December 10th, 1998
Dear Harry,
I hope your holiday is going well.
My parents and sister have been pestering me non-stop since that horrible Skeeter article came out yesterday. They don’t seem to believe me that we are not dating, though I am not sure if they would be happier if we were anyways. They seem especially worried about some rabid fans hunting me down to get to you which might be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Y/N
December 11th, 1998
Y/N,
George and Ron are taking every opportunity to mock me for the article. I’d take your family’s interrogation over their jokes.
Rabid fans do happen. I didn’t think you’d have to worry about it, but it seems Skeeter has given us no choice. Hermione and Ginny can both attest to that.
Best,
Harry
December 21st, 1998
Dear Draco,
I hope your holiday is going better than mine.
I’ve been nearly accosted by a Potter girl on every outing since the Skeeter article. I did not think Harry would have this many nutters lusting after him, but I do not see this slowing down any time soon. Especially since Skeeter has been publishing something in her column every day since the article. Though I would not know what she is saying since my parents have taken to hiding the Prophet the second it arrives once she started making comments on my dating history and appearance. I am not sure if I want to know what she is saying or not.
My rant aside I do hope your holiday is going well and I hope to hear from you soon.
Y/N
December 22nd, 1998
Dear Y/N,
My holiday has been blessedly uneventful. Mother and I cannot leave the country, but we ventured to the coast for a relaxing weekend.
Mother has been keeping me up to date on Rita Skeeter’s column since I told her that we are friends. I want to assure you she does not believe a word of it. She is righteously indignant on your behalf. I can say that her comments are nothing you want to see. Without her “source” or any sighting of you and Harry she is grasping at nothing to keep her readers interested. It will blow over soon. Keep holding out.
Regards,
Draco Malfoy
December 25th, 1998
Harry,
I have included your gifts into this package alongside gifts for Hermione, Ron, and the Weasleys. For Hermione, there is a customized muggle planner and writing tools. For Ron, there is an American Football Almanac and a vintage Chudley Cannons poster. For the Weasleys, I have included a few chocolates and candies.
Your gift is the bracelet wrapped in velvet cloth. It has several sleeping, calming, and purifying charms on it.
Your friend,
Y/N
December 25th, 1998
Dear Draco,
This package contains a gift for you and your mother. For your mother, the silver scarf and the note attached.
For you, there is a box set of Jane Austen’s novels. I marked the page we got to in Pride and Prejudice. Before you insult the bookmark, I designed it.
Your friend,
Y/N
December 26th, 1998
Y/N,
Everyone loved the gifts. The chocolates are gone already.
I wanted to thank you for the bracelet. I had the most peaceful sleep since I can remember last night.
I hope you enjoy your present.
Harry
December 26th, 1998
Dear Y/N,
Mother loves the scarf, and she sends her deepest regrets that she does not have a gift for you. I tried to assure her that you do not need a gift from her, but she refused to listen so be on the lookout for an owl from her.
She also extended an invitation to our New Year party this year. It is a charity event, I think that is her way to guarantee guests.
Thank you so much for the books. The bookmark is exceptionally detailed. Did you draw it yourself?
My gift is not nearly as thoughtful or personalized as yours, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
Regards,
Draco
December 27th, 1998
Harry,
You know I have to return your gift, right? You got me a fucking broomstick! How much did that cost you?
Y/N
PS: If you wanted to convince my parents that we aren’t together this gift certainly did the opposite.
December 27th, 1998
Draco,
I would love to attend your mother’s party.
Your gift is so lovely. I think your gift is far better than mine. My sister thinks so, she’s tried to steal the necklace several times now, claiming green is not my color. I think I’m going to have to put some anti-theft charms on it at this point.
Please let your mother know I truly appreciate the cloak, though I wish she had not spent so much.
Y/N
Malfoy Manor Open for Business
For the first time since the death of You-Know-Who, the Malfoy Manor will be hosting a holiday event. The charity ball will be held on December 31st benefiting the children of survivors of the Second Wizarding War.
Narcissa Malfoy, wife of the infamous Death Eater Lucius Malfoy, has been organizing and hosting charitable projects and events since her husband’s incarceration. She has seen a large amount of success in raising funds for the less fortunate, but it is the opinion of this reporter that no sum will be large enough to restore the Malfoy image.
With both her husband and son marked for life as Death Eaters it is a wonder that Mrs. Malfoy is accepted in wizarding society even at her severely diminished status.
Will you be in attendance to the Death Eater event of the season?

This was the life.
Top down convertible, hair loose in the breeze, Javier’s hand on your thigh as he drove along the coast. It was perfect — like something out of the movies. You could take a hundred pictures and still not quite capture the way you felt.
And sure, you missed the girls, but you had both desperately needed a little time away from everything. After the way the DEA story had landed, you both needed to get the fuck out of there for awhile. Without the kids.
Connie had initially suggested Mexico — Cabo, to be specific. But how the hell could either of you sit on a resort beach and not think about the cartels just beyond the American tourists? The DEA was the last thing either of you wanted to think about.
You reached down and rested your hand over Javier’s on your thigh, slotting your fingers in between his, you ran your thumb over the side of his hand. “I can’t get over how gorgeous this place is.”
Javier tilted his head, grinning at you as he caught your eyes. “Then you fit right in with the scenery, baby.”
“Drive.” You rolled your eyes, squeezing his hand.
He chuckled, running his hand down your leg, “What?”
You bit down on your bottom lip, winding your fingers through your hair as it whipped around you in the wind. There wasn’t a bad view to be found here.
Javier looked good on vacation. Even after only one night in California — which was mostly spent dealing with jetlag at the hotel — he already seemed relaxed. And relaxation suited him.
You reached over and played with the hair at the nape of his neck. His lips drew upwards with an easy smirk as he tilted his head to look at you, “Enjoying the scenery?”
“Very much.” You grinned. Even after all these years, Javi still managed to let loose butterflies in your stomach. The way he made you feel hadn’t dissipated.
The winery the concierge at the hotel had recommended was still partially under construction — but the tasting room and vineyards were open to the public. It was insanely gorgeous, to say the least. The Castle, as it was referred to, was an ornate mansion fashioned after the French Normandy style — and there was nothing like this in Florida. In fact, it looked like something you had seen on Travels in Europe with Rick Steves.
Not that you and Javier curled on the sofa on Sunday afternoons and watched travel shows on PBS. One day, you’d manage an honest to God trip beyond the realms of North and South America.
Javier walked around the convertible to open the door for you, “Ever the gentleman.” You teased as you took his hand and stepped out of the car. You leaned over the side of the car, grabbing your purse and situating the strap across your body. “Shit, this place is insane.” You remarked as you interlaced your fingers with his.
“When they’re done with all the landscaping, this is going to be one hell of a destination.” He remarked, gesturing to the upturned soil along the pathway where they’d clearly recently put down seed.
“I think they’re set to open next summer — officially.” You explained, shielding your eyes as you took in the scenery. “I think we might have to come back.”
He shrugged a shoulder, “We could make it a yearly trip.”
“Hopefully we don’t have a reason to escape every year.”
“You don’t think a nice post-semester getaway — just the two of us — sounds like a fantastic plan, baby?” He questioned with an easy smirk as he released his hold on your hand and wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you in so he could steal a kiss.
You pursed your lips as you pulled back, reaching up to ruffle the hair that fell against his forehead as you considered his suggestion. “I could be tempted.” You grinned at him and leaned in to kiss him again, before you escaped his grasp. “Come on, the tasting starts at noon.”
Javier pushed his sunglasses up the bridge of his nose and followed after you up the pathway. “In all my life, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a place like this.” He remarked as he took your hand again. “I’m feeling underdressed.”
You snorted, “You look fine, Javi.” Your eyes raked over him — dark denim jeans and a short sleeve linen button up suited him. “Better than fine if I were the judge.”
There were already several other couples and groups waiting in the tasting room when you both arrived. They offered tastes of their 1994 Estate Merlot, before ushering everyone onto a tour of the winery and the vineyard. You had never really made a study of winemaking practices and you actually found the whole thing rather fascinating.
“The day is still young,” You remarked as you leaned against the side of the convertible, arms folded across your chest as Javier came to lean against the car beside you. “We could go to the beach.”
Javier glanced at his watch, clicking his tongue against his teeth. “I think Bodega Bay’s probably an hour from here.” He nodded his head in agreement. “You got the map?”
“Am I not the trusty navigator?” You teased as you moved to stand in front of him. “We can eat dinner there and then head back for cocktails at the inn.” You suggested, resting your hands on his shoulders as you leaned in to kiss him.
He rested a hand at the small of your back, as the other gently cupped your cheek.
“Newlyweds?” Someone questioned, interrupting the moment.
Your brows furrowed together as you turned your attention towards the woman who had spoken, “Excuse me?”
“I have a keen eye. It’s easy to spot a pair of newlyweds.” The older woman stated, smiling between the two of you. “Are you on your honeymoon?”
Javier chuckled, raking his fingers through his hair as he gave your hip a squeeze. “Sorry to disappoint, ma’am, but we are neither married nor on our honeymoon.”
You stifled a quiet laugh, by the woman’s flummoxed expression.
“Really?” She clasped her hands together, “I could’ve sworn that was the case.”
“We’ve essentially been together for almost eleven years.” You admitted, your fingers curling around Javier’s as you took his hand. “I guess it’s nice to know we give off honeymoon vibes.”
“I’m the wedding planner for the estate,” The woman offered, extending her hand as an introduction. “Sheila Wise.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” You said politely. “The grounds are going to be beautiful when things are finalized.” You gestured back towards the mansion. “I can see the appeal of getting married here.”
“Are you local?”
Javier shook his head, “Florida.”
“Well, welcome to California. Are you staying nearby?”
“We’re staying in Sonoma at an Inn for a few nights,” You explained, leaning against Javier. “We just got in last night actually.”
“You two must be awfully jet lagged.”
Javier chuckled, scratching at his jaw, “It’s no worse than having a newborn. You got any recommendations? We’re in Sonoma until Tuesday and then heading to the coast mid-week.”
“And then San Francisco,” You added. “We fly back out next week.”
“You should drive down to Armstrong,” She suggested. “You’re less than an hour away and with the weather today, the forest is going to look beautiful.” Sheila looked between the two of you. “Oh, you two really are just a lovely couple.”
You blushed, “Thank you.”
“We were actually considering driving down to Bodega Bay,” Javier reminded you, squeezing your hand. “You wanna hit the Redwoods today?”
You shrugged, “I’m easy. We are staying at the coast later this week.”
“Alright, baby, let’s go look at trees.” He winked at you, rubbing his thumb over the back of your hand before he turned back to Sheila. “Thanks for the recommendation. We might be back next year to see the progress.”
“Do you mind taking a picture for us?” You questioned, releasing your hold on Javier’s hand and leaning into the car to grab your camera from where you’d stowed it under the seat.
“Of course!” Sheila took the camera from you, gesturing for the two of you to pose.
You cupped the side of Javier’s jaw, leaning up to press a kiss to his cheek as he grinned at the camera. You didn’t have nearly enough pictures of the two of you together. She took a second shot with you leaning against him, his arm curled around your waist.
“I hope you have a wonderful visit,” She said warmly as she passed the camera back to you.
“She is a remarkably spritely old woman,” You remarked once she was out of earshot and you were settled into the car, sorting out a route on the map that would get you to the state park.
“Hope you’re that spritely when you get old like me,” Javier quipped with a smirk, taking his sunglasses off and tucking them into the front of his shirt. He stifled a yawn as he rubbed at his eyes.
“Wanna go back to the hotel?” You questioned, leaning over to play your fingers through his hair at the nape of his neck. “We can go poke around the plaza in town. Find somewhere to eat.” You brushed your knuckles against his cheek as he turned to look at you. “This is supposed to be relaxing, not exhausting” You reminded him.
“Gotta reserve some energy for tonight, right?” He remarked, tracing his tongue over the edge of his teeth as he met your gaze.
“You mean since we fell asleep last night?” You quipped, giving his leg a pat. “We can sit on the patio and crack into the bottle we bought.” You bit down on your bottom lip as you met his eyes, “And then we can have fun.”
Javier leaned over and kissed you, “I’m looking forward to it.” He brushed his nose against yours before starting the car up.
 ————
“Why didn’t we settle in California instead of Florida?” You questioned, setting aside your menu as you looked across the table at Javier. “It’s not as hot as hell like Miami is.” You shook your head. “This is the right way to dine al fresco.”
Javier took a sip of his wine and sank back in his seat, looking quite relaxed as he looked around the bustling downtown plaza area. “You know what the best thing is?”
“What?”
“We don’t have to worry about people recognizing us.” He rubbed at the side of his neck. “Yeah, it was national news, but everyone knows we’re in Miami.”
You sighed heavily and shrugged your shoulders, “It was a lot.” Dealing with the back and forth in the newspaper had been emotionally fatiguing. “I don’t know what I expected, honestly. I just wanted it out there. You know?”
“Yeah,” Javier nodded, rocking his jaw. “I don’t regret it. It needed to be done.”
You nudged his foot beneath the table, “I know everything coming out like it did wasn’t ideal. But it’s not like either of us have ever pretended to be someone that we’re not.”
“It was pretty fucking clear the DEA had some idea about who they thought I was.”
A faint smile cracked at the corner of your lips, “Everyone’s wrong about you, but… I think we cleared that up.”
Javier snorted, “On the front page in black and white. I still wish Vickers had given us a fucking heads-up.” He made a face, “That was the most uncomfortable class of my life.”
You laughed, reaching for your wine. “Did they think they’d break us?”
He gestured vaguely with his hands, “Probably. I mean the whole thing blew up in their faces. Painted me out to be a saint and threw a half dozen of their guys under the bus.”
“It opened up a whole new scandal,” You pointed out. “I’m kinda glad the whole thing took the pressure off us. Elena is a saint.”
“We should get her something,” Javier suggested. “Think Hallmark has a card for that?”
You tapped your finger against your lips thoughtfully, “We should write in with the suggestion.”
Javier leaned forward and took your free hand into his, “Dear Hallmark,” He began, barely keeping a straight face. “Please write a greeting card for when you need to thank a hooker you slept with nearly a decade ago for orchestrating the mass confessional of Colombia’s finest.”
Your head tilted back as you laughed, “Please put that in your autobiography. “
He clicked his tongue against his teeth, “It’ll be in there.”
The waiter came then to take your orders. Javier ordered a fancy sounding Tortellini Alfredo with prosciutto, while you opted for the Eggplant Lasagna. Despite dinner and wine being more than enough, you both managed to share a serving of tiramisu before walking back to your hotel.
“Do you miss the kids?” Javier questioned as he stepped out onto the balcony with the bottle of wine you’d purchased at the winery.
“A smidge.” You admitted to him as you pulled your robe around your shoulders, relaxing into your seat. “Monica assured me that she’d call if there was any trouble.” You scooted your glass across the table for him to fill it. “And she hasn’t called.”
“I suppose that’s reassuring,” Javier’s gaze flickered to your face as he filled your glass, pushing it back towards you. “You buy that just for the trip?”
You nodded your head with a smirk. “I figured we needed a little treat.” You smoothed your fingers over the satin ruffled sleeve of the dusty rose robe. “And I don’t actually have any robes.” You brought your glass to your lips and took a sip.
Javier chuckled, “It’s a good look on you.” He remarked, picking up his glass and taking a sip as he stepped around behind you, his eyes turning towards the horizon. “Hell of a view.”
“The mountains are gorgeous. They’re so different from the ones I grew up with.” You reached up and rested your fingers over his hand at your shoulder. “I’m guessing hiking is off the agenda?”
He gave your shoulder a squeeze as he walked around and sat down in the chair across from you, “Who do you think I am?”
You snorted, “Alright, alright.” You took another sip of wine before you rose to your feet and moved around to sit on his lap. “Better?”
“Much better,” Javier assured you, resting his hand at your hip as he sat his wine glass aside. “Did you have fun today?”
“I did,” You said with a nod as you slipped at your wine. “That winery was gorgeous. Can you imagine living in a house like that?”
“Makes our house feel like an apartment.”
“Right?” You sat your glass down on the table next to his, shifting in his lap to face him. “Did you have fun?”
“Of course I did, baby. I spent the day with you.”
“Ugh, gross.” You scrunched up your nose, but kissed him nonetheless. You nipped at his bottom lip, fingers cupping his jaw as you sank into the kiss. “Sometimes you say the corniest shit.”
“You bring that out of me. You’ve only got yourself to blame, baby.” He told you, rubbing his hand down the top of your thigh where the robe fell against your skin.
You scraped your nails gently down the back of his neck, fingers toying with the soft hair there, before you dragged them through his hair. “Oh, it’s my fault you make dad jokes?”
“Well, who made me a father?”
“Me. Twice.” You rolled your eyes. “I must be crazy or something for facilitating your descent into dad jokes.” You tugged at his hair.
Javier played with the tie of your robe, loosening it just enough for him to slide a hand inside, his fingers playing against your bare side. “You like my corny jokes. Don’t lie.”
“I never lie.” You traced your finger down his nose. “Back in Colombia, you were definitely funnier than Murphy.”
“Only way to keep sane.”
“Seriously,” You pressed a kiss to the tip of his nose. “I think Josie is going to have our brand of humor. She’s already so sassy.”
“She’s all you.” Javier tilted his head and stole a kiss. “Sofía — I’m not sure about.”
“She’s grumpy, just like her father.” You punctuated your sentence with a kiss to his lips before you moved to slide out of his lap. You snatched up both glasses of wine and moved towards the doorway back into your room.
Javier had loosened your robe enough so that it fell open completely as you stood in the threshold. Beneath the robe was a pair of satin shorts and soft bralet that matched, both edged with white lace. And given the look on his face — he was thrilled with the choice.”
“Like what you see?”
“Goddamn, baby. Sometimes I think you’re intentionally trying to give me a heart attack.” He remarked as he slid the balcony door closed behind him. He sat the half-drunk bottle of wine aside as he kicked off his shoes, “You look fucking incredible.”
Even still he managed to make your cheeks warm. You finished off your glass of wine, before setting his down on the nightstand. “I thought you might enjoy this.” You remarked as you let the robe slide off your arms and pool by your feet. “I might have another one saved for when we get to Sam Francisco.”
“You spoil me, baby.” Javier ran his tongue over his bottom lip. “Holy shit.”
You perched on the side of the bed, trailing your fingers along your collarbone as you watched him undress. He slowly worked the buttons of his linen shirt loose, before tossing it aside carelessly. “Come here, Javi.” You requested, spreading your legs as he approached you.
Javier laid you back on the bed, draping himself over you as his lips claimed your mouth. One of your legs curled around his hips, grinding against the growing bulge in his jeans. You could feel the hard line of the zipper pressing against you and you sought friction from it. The satin fabric cling slickly to your cunt, the satin darkening there as your arousal grew.
Fuck. The man knew how to kiss. Lips hungry against yours as his tongue plundered you like you wished his cock would. God — you were aching. Wine always managed to make you horny.
You tugged at his hair, desire spark through you at the groan that left his mouth from the gesture. “You like that, Javi?” You taunted. “Our lives might’ve been printed on the front page, but there are so many things only I know about you.”
Javier grinned down at you, “To the grave, baby.”
“To the grave.” You repeated as he dipped back down to kiss you again. You worked your hand in between your bodies, fingers desperately working to get his jeans off.
He took a step back, undoing his belt before he shoved his pants down his hips and kicked them off. Your eyes flickered downwards to his erection, clearly straining in his boxers. “I feel like I should invest in satin.” You teased, “You seem to really enjoy it.”
Javier rolled his eyes, “Fuck you.”
“Wish you would.” You retorted with a smirk, running a hand down your torso, before playing your fingers over the soaked crotch of the satin. You bit down on your bottom lip to suppress a sound as you circled your clit through the fabric. “Javi.
“Middle of the bed, on your stomach.” Javier told you, his eyes snapping to your face. You wanted to taunt him, to drag this out longer — but the flint of control in his eyes made your stomach flip with desire.
You complied, putting a little sway in your ass as you crawled onto the bed and laid down flat on your stomach in the center of the bed.
Javier moved to join you, the bed dipping under his weight as he moved to straddle your upper thighs. He ran his hand down the center of your back, a tender touch that came in sharp contrast with the sudden slap he delivered to your left ass cheek. You jerked, grabbing the sheets as you cried out in surprise.
“Baby, was it too much?” He questioned, rubbing the cheek he’d just injured. “Shit—“
“It’s good. Very good.” You assured him.
“You know your safe word, baby.”
“I do. And I don’t plan on using it.” You countered, wiggling beneath his weight. “Don’t tease, Jav—“
You muffled the next cry of pleasure against your pillow as he delivered a second slap to your right cheek. It was probably wrong just how much you enjoyed it. The pain that merged into pleasure.
“You’re fucking soaked, baby. Fuck, look at this perfect pussy.” He drawled out as he dragged his fingers through your slick folds. The touch was just teasing at first, gathering up your arousal and smearing it all over his fingers.
You lifted your hips towards him, desperate for more. You bit down on your bottom lip as you felt his fingers tease at your slick center — working one and then two fingers into you. The angle was perfect, making two fingers feel tight within you. A precursor to what you were desperate for.
Javier worked his fingers in and out of you, dragging them right over that sweet spot without ever giving it his full attention. You could feel the pleasure coursing through your veins, but it was never enough to push you over the edge.
You moaned into the comforter, as he kept his fingers within you and stroked them over that sweet spot. That pleasure causes you to be caught off guard as his free hand landed against your bare asscheek.
“Fuck. You clenched so tight around my fingers, baby. Think you’re ready for me cock?”
You flipped him off in response, amused by the low rumble of laughter that escaped him. Javier slid his fingers from your cunt and replaced the with his cock.
He fed it into you slowly, sinking inch after inch into you until you squirmed beneath him. The angle was incredible. You could feel every inch of his cock stretching you.
Javier palmed at your ass, gripping them tightly as he worked his cock in and out of you. Every forward thrust had him hitting that sweet spot within you, your body so ready to come for him.
He stretched out above you, his weight pressing you into the mattress as his cock stayed seated within you. Javier took your hands into his, keeping them pinned to the bed beside your hands. “That’s it, baby. Be a good girl and stay still for me.”
You drew in a shaky breath, the roughness of his voice sending a shiver down your spine. “Keep it right there.” He ordered you, releasing one hand so he could curl it loosely around your throat. He wasn’t trying to leave a mark, they’d be too hard to hide in dresses and bathing suits.
“Are you just going to stay like this?” You questioned, grinding back against him as you clenched around his length.
Javier squeezed your hand, “Is there a problem with that?” He questioned, bucking his hips forward, “Just stay still, baby.” He soothed, dragging his fingers down the column of your throat. “You feel so good like this.”
It did feel good. You could feel every inch of him buried within your cunt and the weight of him crushing you into the mattress was a relished sensation. It felt like every part of him was pressed against you.
He released your throat, brushing your hair aside as his lips hovered by your ear, “I want you to come for me, baby. Can you do that for me?”
You swallowed thickly, “Like this?” He nodded, kissing your shoulder. “Javi.” You begged, clenching around him again.
His fingers tangled in your hair, his grip tightening as he started rocking into you, a slow and steady thrust — one where he barely pulled out before he was pressed back into you.
You shifted beneath him, grinding back against his every move. “Fuck!” You gasped, feeling your body flutter around his cock. “Goddammit, Javi.” You urged.
“Do you want me to stop, baby?” He questioned, his hand moving to give your hip a reassuring squeeze. “What do you want, baby?”
“I don’t want you to stop.” You told him hastily. “I just want you to fuck me. Please.”
“Since you asked so nicely,” Javier pulled away from you, sitting back on his knees — using the angle to drive into you again and again.
This was what you had wanted. Javier pounding you into the mattress until you forgot what your name was. Javier fucking you until all you could was come around his cock as he spilled into you.
It was the best way to start vacation.

Hulu New Releases: June 2021
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much. If you count “FX on Hulu” as Hulu then June 17 sees the arrival of Dave season 2. Dave was one of TV’s best surprises last year and it’s nice to have it back.
After those two, it’s just a bunch of library titles. Thankfully, those library titles are fairly intriguing. Arachnophobia, The Dark Knight, Kick-Ass, and Slumdog Millionaire all premiere on June 1. Willy’s Wonderland, featuring Nic Cage’s battle against animatronic puppets, arrives on June 13.
Here is everything else coming to Hulu this month.

17 Movies Every Bride & Groom Should Watch Before Their Wedding Day
Tumblr media
Source: Happy Wedding App
When it comes to watching movies, Romantic movies top the list. Most people prefer to watch cheesy romances on the screen. We all love to see, boy meeting girl, and then they fall in love with each other, then they go through several problems, and finally, they marry. No matter how regular the whole stuff looks like, romantic movies have a flavor of its own. And these movies look more beautiful when you are about to get married. So here is a list of the 17 best movies every bride and groom should watch before their wedding day.
Let’s have a look on the selection….
1. My Big Fat Greek Wedding
My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a 2002 independent romantic comedy film and is one of the classic movies. It is a cheerful love story, which revolves around an unconfident sheltered woman, Fotoula “Toula” Portokalos (Nia Vardalos), struggling to discover her own identity before meeting the man of her dreams, Ian Miller (John Corbett). It is a good romantic dose in case you need a little inspiration before the big day. Do watch and see how a Greek American woman falls in love with a non-Greek man and what happens next.
2. Wedding Crashers
An excellent movie for all those who are going to miss all of the fun of being single. It is a 2005 American romantic comedy film; it follows two divorce mediators (Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn) who crash weddings in an attempt to meet and seduce bridesmaids. Both Wilson and Vaughn jump from one marriage to another, to meet and have sex with women. They keep doing it until they realize that sometimes all you need is that one perfect person.

In 1991, Lopez began appearing as a Fly Girl dancer on In Living Color, where she remained a regular until she decided to pursue an acting career in 1993. For her first leading role in the 1997 Selena biopic of the same name, Lopez became the first Latin actress to earn over US$1 million for a film. U.S. Retaliation for the Kabul Bombing Won’t Stop ISIS or End Terrorism
The central flaw in U.S. strategy is the belief that military force can eradicate extremist groups or radical ideologies.

ISIS-K may pay a physical price for its brazen attack at the Kabul airport, but it scored political and psychological points in the world of jihadism.Photograph by Juan Carlos / Hans Lucas / Redux
In April, 2017, the United States unleashed a twenty-two-thousand-pound bomb on a complex of caves and tunnels used by isis-k, or the Islamic State Khorasan, in eastern Afghanistan. Nicknamed “the mother of all bombs,” it was the largest non-nuclear bomb ever used in combat. It was so big that it had to be pushed out of the rear of a warplane. The bomb was so controversial that the Pentagon had to conduct a legal review to insure that it did not violate the international Law of Armed Conflict. “It is expected that the weapon will have a substantial psychological effect on those who witness its use,” the Pentagon said, in an evaluation of it in 2003.
Only it didn’t. The mother of all bombs killed fewer than a hundred of the group’s fighters, and had a negligible long-term impact on isis-k. (The “K” stands for Khorasan, the name of an ancient province that once included parts of modern-day Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran.) isis-k is now arguably the most militant group in Afghanistan. It has also carried out some of the country’s worst recent atrocities. In the first four months of this year, the jihadi extremist movement carried out seventy-seven attacks across Afghanistan, the United Nations reported. In May, a bombing at a girls’ school in Kabul killed ninety people, many of them students, and injured more than two hundred and seventy others. On Thursday, a lone isis-k bomber wearing a suicide vest walked to the perimeter of Kabul’s international airport and blew himself up. Thirteen marines and Navy personnel were killed; at least a hundred and seventy Afghans died. It was one of the deadliest attacks in more than a decade against the United States, the world’s premier military power.
Hours later, President Biden reflected the anger and agony of the nation when he vowed revenge against isis-k. “To those who carried out this attack, as well as anyone who wishes America harm, know this: we will not forgive,” he said, in a White House address. “We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay.” Pressed on Biden’s comment, the White House press secretary, Jen Psaki, said, on Friday, “I think he made clear yesterday that he did not want them to live on the Earth anymore.” On Friday night, Central Command announced that it had conducted a drone strike on an isis-k planner in eastern Nangarhar Province. “Initial indications are that we killed the target,” the statement said. “We know of no civilian casualties.”
The United States may indeed manage to kill more isis-k fighters and destroy some of their modest arsenal. But the central flaw in U.S. strategy is the belief that military force can eradicate extremist groups or radical ideologies. On Friday evening, a senior Biden Administration official acknowledged that the United States “can’t physically eliminate an ideology. What you can do is deal, hopefully effectively, with any threat that it poses.” Past Administrations have tried lethal strikes. In August, 1998, President Bill Clinton ordered Operation Infinite Reach, a series of cruise-missile attacks on Al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan and on a pharmaceutical plant in Sudan that U.S. intelligence erroneously linked to Osama bin Laden. The strikes were in retaliation for the bombings of U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed more than two hundred and injured more than four thousand. That U.S. operation had limited impact. Three years later, Al Qaeda operatives carried out the 9/11 attacks, killing nearly three thousand in the deadliest attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor. Despite the killing of bin Laden, a decade ago, the more skilled Al Qaeda fighters were the force multipliers in the Taliban’s sweep across Afghanistan this year.
“The bottom line is that kinetic action by itself cannot significantly counter terrorist organizations,” Seth Jones, a former adviser to U.S. Special Operations forces in Afghanistan, told me. “It is very limited in what it can do. It can disrupt operationally and take people out. But tactical and operational impact is very short-term.”
isis-k may pay a physical price for its brazen attack, but it scored political and psychological points among Sunni Muslim extremists and wannabe militants that will make it more popular in the world of jihadism. It could even come out ahead of where it was, experts warn. “Up until recently, before the U.S. withdrawal, isis-k had been relegated to the backwater of isis activity,” Jones, who is now the director of the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said.
isis-k was founded in late 2014 by disaffected members of the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and later joined by members of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and other Central Asian militants. The United States has long tried to contain isis-k, as have both the (now defunct) Afghan government and the Taliban—it was the lone issue on which the three warring parties agreed. Since 2016, U.S. strikes have killed the movement’s first four emirs. In 2018, at its peak, isis-k was ranked as one of the deadliest terrorist groups in the world, and claimed to have up to four thousand fighters, Jones said. It has operated in Kabul and also in Nangarhar, Kunar, Jowzjan, Paktia, Kunduz, and Herat provinces. But, by the end of summer, 2018, it had been pushed out of much of northern Afghanistan. And in 2019, the group was “nearly eradicated” in its eastern strongholds, after a series of offensives by U.S., Afghan, and Taliban forces, the Congressional Research Service reported. At one point, the U.S. effectively provided air support for Taliban operations against isis-k. In November, 2019, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani boasted, using an alternate name for isis, “We have obliterated Daesh.”
Yet, today, Ghani has fled Afghanistan and isis-k has made a comeback. In June, the United Nations reported that isis-k remained “active and dangerous” in Afghanistan and a threat to the wider region. Shahab al-Muhajir, who became its emir last year, was positioning isis-k to be “the sole pure rejectionist group in Afghanistan, to recruit disaffected Taliban and other militants to swell its ranks.” Its core collection of fighters was estimated to be between fifteen hundred and two thousand, the U.N. report stated. On Friday, the Pentagon said that, as the Taliban swept across the country, thousands of isis-k fighters were freed from prisons, notably at Bagram Air Base, where the most hardened operatives were jailed.
With the withdrawal of the United States and all other nato forces, Afghanistan may now become a battlefield between the Taliban and isis-k, experts say. The senior Biden Administration official said that the United States would consider coöperating with the Taliban to contain isis-k. He predicted that isis-k would focus in the near term on regaining ground in Afghanistan rather than attacking U.S. targets. Both movements seek to create a single global Islamic caliphate, but they differ starkly in their tactics. The Taliban consider isis-k to be a terrorist group. Most of the isis-k attacks have been against soft targets, such as schools and mosques, or against rival religious sects, such as Hazara Shiites. It seeks to force allegiance. Its strategy is to recruit disaffected Taliban members and sow sectarian chaos. Rita Katz, of the site Intelligence Group, told me that it wants to counter the widely held notion among Islamists and jihadists “that the Taliban defeated America, instead framing the Taliban as an agent of the Americans and its takeover of Afghanistan as part of an American-made plan.” In a recent issue of Al-Naba, a newspaper released by isis, the group wrote, “What happened is nothing more than replacing a shaven tyrant with a bearded [tyrant].”
The Taliban, with at least seventy thousand fighters, far outnumber isis-k, which is not a formidable ground force, Katz said: “isis will continue to carry out attacks, but it is not a force that can threaten the Taliban in any significant way.” isis-k, in turn, wants to exploit the vulnerability of the new Taliban government—which has yet to form—to become the leading edge of isis worldwide, Jones told me. “There’s essentially anarchy in Afghanistan right now,” he said. “It creates opportunities for groups to take advantage of the political vacuum.” The key will be whether isis-k can recruit new members and transform itself from a terrorist group into an insurgent movement that can control territory and fight it out with the Taliban.
The ability of isis-k to carry out one of the most successful attacks against the American military in years will give it new credibility. The bombing at Kabul airport puts it in a different position than it was even a month ago, Jones noted: “How ironic that the withdrawal of U.S. forces has significantly increased the terrorism challenge—at the very time the U.S. said it had solved the terrorism problem.” And a few missiles or drone strikes, or even another strike by the mother of all bombs, won’t change much anytime soon.

Evaluation
Project evaluation;
My timeline; I started writing songs when I was 7/8 years old. I was in a girl band called the diamond pink lashes. It consists of 3 people and we all assigned each other different parts. I was the song writer, one girl was the choreography and the other was in charge of merchandise. We used to do shows in our communal garden for all our neighbours. Then when we moved, I started writing a lot more as my mum always corrected me on my spelling. I started writing about bullying as I was bullied in school for wearing glasses. As time went on, I got deeper into depression and anxiety. I suffered with an eating disorder when I was 13/14. I have so many note pads of unfinished lyrics still to this day, even in my planner at school. Coming up to 15, is when I first performed in front of my first audience at platform. The track was called "societies to blame" based on the issues we face today. At 16, I made my first song called "don't let go" which is about not letting depression get the better of you. 17 is when I released my first EP and now I'm doing the urban development course with Tileyard.
Musical time line 'inspired artists';
I'm 1998, My nan was always obsessed with Elvis and my mum was with madonna so I mainly heard them. I used to hear people like usher, destinys child and notorious B.I.G.
1999 is when I heard Britney Spears, TLC, JLO and Enrique Iglesias. 2000 is when I started dancing to artists such as Christina Aguilera, Pink, Santana, Nelly and N Sync.
2001 is when I first heard of Missi Elliot. She inspired me a lot still to this day. She as a lot of energy and is so lyrically gifted.
2002 is when I started listening to people like Eminem, April lavigne, sugarbabes and Sean Paul. By this time I started developing my own sense of music which was an up beat tempo style which I loved.
2003 is when the uprising of Beyoncé was thriving through the music charts, along with people like 50 cent, Black eye peas and Outkast.
2004 is when I grasped on to dancing a lot more when I heard "cha cha slide" by DJ Casper. Anastasia was My favourite at the time because our family used to do 'sing star night' on the PlayStation and I loved singing 'left outside alone'. This is when I started listening /getting inspired by Chris brown.
2005 is when pussycats evolved for me aswell as people like akon, Rihanna and mario.
2006, I loved shakira as she made more cultural music and o loved James blunt for his words to "you're beautiful".
2007, was timberland, Sean Kingston, Soulja boy and Leona Lewis.
My favourite song from 2008 would be '4 minutes' by Madonna and Justin Timberlake. I loved this song because the video was very creative and it was a mixture of old sound with new to me. Justin timberlake showed a newer sound compared to Madonna and I absolutely loved the outcome.
2009 is when I was obsessed with the boy band JLS from Xfactor. I admired them because I loved how they composed their songs together in the group and let's face it, I was a fan girl of this new creative, gorgeous boy band.
2010 is when I listened to Katy perry, Bruno mars and the song "love the way you lie" by Rihanna and Eminem. I loved how the song fitted perfectly with rap and slow type hip hop.
2011 was filled of lady gaga, Jessie j, Jason derulo and pitbull.
2012, was flo rida, Nicki minaj, and Macklemore.
2013 was passenger, one republic and miles Cyrus.
2014, pharrel Williams, Jess Glynn and fuse odg. I loved the music from fuse odg as it was so addictive to dance to.
2015, ferry wap, Justin bieber and Ellie Goulding.
2016 was an interesting one as I started hearing more of future, desigiiner, drake and g-eazy.
Now, I listen to a variety of uk artists and American artists but I like the uk rap scene such as people like j hus, mo stack, Dave, giggs, krept and Konan, chipmunk, yungen and wstrn.
I've gone through variety of genres from evanescence to reaggaeton but I would say that I'm focused on Hip/hop or uk rap scene music.
I would say all of the artists above from this point, reflect on me as I'm inspired by all of them. To me, a song has to have meaning. It must be a feeling of some sort that expresses who you are as a person, whether it's personal or relatable. The most I'm inspired by is Chris brown as he's been doing music from a young age and is still rising up with his new album containing 45 new songs. I like to think that I love black music because of the way it is done. I love the fact black people can come together, dance and call each other family. I like the idea of their peace and harmony when they dance. I'm absolutely inspired by their culture. I love any music I'm able to move my feet to because it makes me happy and more confident in my skin.
My new goals are to make a variety of tracks to different genres to show that I love diversity and a good challenge. I love the idea of different kind of music but from the same artist to show that everyone can come together and celebrate music.
The new action I would take to do so would be to make my own beats/ instrumentals to create and do research on how certain genres are made. To me, I think if you can do every genre, you'll be able to reach out to people every where around the world. I think this would be a great idea as it will show I'm not showing any injustice to any musical culture or creativity

3 ways to invest like Warren Buffett
A cottage industry of asset managers, financial advisors and investment can give you their takes on how to be just like Warren Buffett.
You can skip the circus of wannabes and hear from the Oracle of Omaha directly in his annual letter to Berkshire Hathaway a shareholder, which was published Saturday.
In his most recent letter, Buffett praised the virtues of index funds, railed against the steep fees hedge fund managers charge and said "investors who avoid high and unnecessary costs and simply sit for an extended period with a collection of large, conservatively-financed American businesses will almost certainly do well."
You don't have to be a stock-picking whiz to benefit from his success. Buffett has already detailed three ways to emulate him in your retirement portfolio.
The two-fund portfolio
Buffett outlined an investing strategy for ordinary investors in his 2013 annual shareholder letter:
My advice to the trustee could not be more simple: Put 10% of the cash in short-term government bonds and 90% in a very low-cost S&P 500 index fund. (I suggest Vanguard's.) I believe the trust's long-term results from this policy will be superior to those attained by most investors – whether pension funds, institutions or individuals – who employ high-fee managers.
You can buy U.S. Treasurys directly or invest in a low-cost government bond fund. (Vanguard's short-term government bond index fund charges 0.16 percent annually with a $3,000 minimum investment, or 0.07 percent for the exchange-traded fund version.)
Vanguard offers several S&P funds: a traditional mutual fund that charges 0.16 percent annually with a $3,000 minimum investment or one with a $10,000 minimum and a 0.05 percent annual fee.
You can also buy a Vanguard 500 ETF that has an expense ratio of 0.05 percent. If you want a rock-bottom price, iShares Core S&P 500 ETF charges 0.04 percent. With ETFs, and unlike with mutual funds, you may have to pay commissions when you trade them.
"Warren Buffett's investment strategy is a good one for investors and signals that he doesn't believe that most people, including professionals, can beat the market long-term, so just be the market and buy low-cost index funds," said Stephanie Genkin, a certified financial planner in Brooklyn.
Buffett put his money where his mouth is when it comes to indexing. He bet $1 million for charity that the Vanguard 500 Index Fund Admiral Shares would beat a basket of five hedge funds selected by Protégé Partners, a New York City asset management firm over 10 years starting in 2008.
The index fund has tripled the performance of the combined returns of five unnamed hedge funds as of the end of 2015. A likely Buffett victory will benefit Girls Inc. of Omaha while Protégé is playing for Ark, an international youth education charity based in the U.K.
Berkshire Hathaway stock
You can share in gains of one of the world's greatest capital allocators by owning stock in Berkshire Hathaway directly.
Buffett's holding company has beaten the total return of the S&P 500 over the past 10 years with an annualized return of 9.1 percent, compared to 7.3 percent for the index.
Berkshire stock has two share classes. The primary difference between the share classes is the price. Class A stock recently cost more than $255,000 per share while Class B is 1/1,500 of that sum, recently at $170 per share.
You can convert Class A stock into Baby Berkshire shares, but not the other way around. Class B shares, launched in 1996, also have slightly less voting rights.
Beyond the lower price, the big advantage of the Class B shares for investors is that they can give them to people without triggering the gift tax, which kicks in for gifts above $14,000 each year.
With any investment pool, the larger you get, the harder it is to produce outstanding results. Berkshire Hathaway is no different and Buffett addressed this issue in his shareholder letter:
As for Berkshire, our size precludes a brilliant result: Prospective returns fall as assets increase. Nonetheless, Berkshire's collection of good businesses, along with the company's impregnable financial strength and owner-oriented culture, should deliver decent results. We won't be satisfied with less.
The Warren Buffett way
For the adventurous (or foolish), you can try your hand at investing in stocks like the master of value investing himself.
You don't have to go it alone. Plenty of stock screeners, such as those from the American Association of Individual Investors, Morningstar and ValueWalk, strive to identify stocks of companies with positive free cash flows, good returns on capital and strong competitive advantages (what Buffett calls "moats" as in a castle with a moat). Automated investing service Motif lets you buy a basket of Buffett-like stocks for less than $10 per trade.
To be sure, it is extremely difficult to generate a record anything close to what Buffett has done just by stock-picking. Public companies represent only a part of Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio holdings, while the rest come from private deals ordinary investors can't access.
Where most investors lose their way in following in Buffett's legendary footsteps is consistency. Even Buffett stumbles from time to time.
"The problem that most people would have investing like Buffett is the time frame. Many of his investments can take years to pan out, and the average investor doesn't have that sort of patience," said George Gagliardi, a CFP and founder of Coromandel Wealth Management in Lexington, Massachusetts.
"Remember the derogatory comments about Buffett during the Internet stock boom years? He went from a pariah in 1998 to a genius in 2003," Gagliardi said.
The key to Buffett's stock-picking success has been his ability to buy when others are fearful.
"Many companies, of course, will fall behind, and some will fail. Winnowing of that sort is a product of market dynamism. Moreover, the years ahead will occasionally deliver major market declines – even panics – that will affect virtually all stocks. No one can tell you when these traumas will occur – not me, not Charlie [Munger], not economists, not the media," Buffett writes in his 2016 letter.
"During such scary periods, you should never forget two things: First, widespread fear is your friend as an investor, because it serves up bargain purchases. Second, personal fear is your enemy."

Bipolar Disorder
In 1990 Jenifer Lewis was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She always knew something was wrong but she embraces her mental illness happily by always loving herself. Lewis has plenty of self-love. “You have to look in the mirror … and say—before you can go or grow into anything—you have to say you love yourself,” she says.
Three years later one of Lewis close friends saw her screaming on the floor and encouraged her to seek help. Lewis also noticed she was yelling at people who were close to her.
"People who are bipolar switch from feeling an energetic, “high” and/or irritable to feeling sad and hopeless, and then back again. They often have normal moods in between. These “up” and “down” feelings are called mania and depression. If left untreated, bipolar disorder can result in damaged relationships, poor job or school performance, and even suicide."

Jennifer Lopez at the Super Bowl? It’s the Role She Was Born to Play
Some time in 1998, riding high on critical acclaim for her performance alongside George Clooney in Steven Soderbergh’s sultry crime thriller “Out of Sight,” the rising actress Jennifer Lopez approached her manager with an unconventional idea: She wanted to make an album.
Lopez recalled his response was not encouraging in a recent “CBS Sunday Morning” interview: “Well, you know, you won’t be taken seriously as an actress now if you make a record, so how about we just stick to the acting right now?” That was not an option. The experience of playing the Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez in a 1997 biopic had reignited a fire. “Once I did the movie ‘Selena,’ I was like, No, I’m doing it,” she said with a flash in her eyes.
On Sunday, Lopez will headline the Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira, joining the recent ranks of Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna and Katy Perry. Her status as a triple-threat pop cultural polyglot by now feels so inevitable that it can be easy to forget what she risked in 1999 when she released her debut album, “On the 6.” A Los Angeles Times profile from that May — headline: “It’s Not ‘La Vida Loca’ to Her” — wondered why she would “put her red-hot film career on hold for more than a year to make an album.” (It’s hard to think of a contemporary equivalent to this surprise: Perhaps if Timothée Chalamet announced a break to focus on his rap career?) Even in the waning boom days of the recording industry, J. Lo’s music career was far from a guaranteed triumph.
But the gambit worked, of course. Her debut single, “If You Had My Love,” held No. 1 on the Billboard chart for five weeks that summer; “On the 6” went multiplatinum and was nominated for two Grammys. Her 2001 follow-up, “J.Lo,” fared even better, and its debut atop the album chart made her the first person in history to score a No. 1 album and a No. 1 movie (“The Wedding Planner”) simultaneously.
In some sense, though, that manager’s prophecy came true. “The Wedding Planner” was not exactly “Out of Sight”: The daffy, predictable rom-com that asked its audience to believe that Jennifer Lopez was Italian currently holds a 16 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “Gigli” would soon follow — and that’s all that needs to be said about that. In pursuing a pop career, and thus a less solemn and obedient identity as a Serious Actress, Lopez telegraphed early on that she was a bit too restless to play by Hollywood’s rules. Pop music offered Lopez more flexibility anyway: Leading roles weren’t exactly flowing to Latinas, and meaningful conversations about diversity in the movie industry were more than a decade away.
Now, over 20 years after her first pivot to music, a jilted Hollywood seems once again to be thumbing its nose at Lopez. Though she was widely expected to receive her first Oscar nomination for her complex, defiantly unsentimental performance as stripper-turned-grifter Ramona Vega in the hit movie “Hustlers,” the Academy left her in the cold. (“First of all, ‘Hustlers’ is not an Oscar movie,” one 91-year-old Academy voter recently told Page Six.) The supporting actress nominees are all white.
It does not feel entirely coincidental that this rebuke happened on the heels of yet another year when Lopez worked overtime to remind the world that — far from a side-hustle or a part-time vanity project — she is still very much an active musician. In April she released a new single, “Medicine,” which features the rapper French Montana and has a surreal, Busby-Berkley-meets-haute-couture music video. Then, following a successful Las Vegas residency that ended in 2018, last summer Lopez embarked on the 38-date (and $54.7 million-grossing) It’s My Party arena tour; her performances were an entertaining and impressively athletic blend of showgirl glitz and South Bronx grit.
The tour was also evidence that Lopez is particularly well-suited for the Super Bowl halftime show — an event that calls for a glitter-encrusted ringmaster’s charisma, a catalog of hits that anyone can sing along to, and a kind of professionalized sass and sex appeal that does not quite veer into the territory of an F.C.C. violation (as Janet Jackson and M.I.A. can attest). It should be an especially fitting display of her talents: The quintessential Jennifer Lopez experience is an audiovisual one, allowing her to glide fluidly between music, movement and the theatrical star-power that can keep an audience riveted. And given both Justin Timberlake’s somnolent 2018 performance and Maroon 5 and Travis Scott’s haphazard, cringe-inducing celebration of Adam Levine’s chest tattoos, the past few halftime shows have offered plenty of room for improvement.
Lopez’s musical career has not been without its misfires, but she has remained tenaciously committed to it as a necessary creative outlet. Its duration alone, in the fickle and ageist world of pop, is staggering: The 50-year-old Lopez has stuck around long enough to ride the wave of two different “Latin booms,” from “Bailamos” to Bad Bunny. She’s moved relatively nimbly with the changing tides, from the airy confections of the “TRL” era to the harder crystalline beats that accompanied the EDM-crazed 2010s. One of the most successful singles of Lopez’s career, the driving, sing-song-y Pitbull collaboration “On the Floor” came in 2011, a full 12 years after her debut album.
But from “On the 6” to her recent Oscar snub, Lopez seems to have found, in her pop career, a sense of freedom and validation that has eluded her in Hollywood, where she continues to vibrate at a slightly different frequency. She founded her own production company and in 2016 starred in one of its creations, the network cop show “Shades of Blue,” while others were leaning toward prestige TV. The figure of the Serious Actress is still cut from a stiff, restrictive cloth. But if you know one thing about J. Lo, it’s that she has an innate desire to move.
At least in the pop-cultural consciousness, Lopez was first known as a dancer. There she is grooving in the video for Janet Jackson’s 1993 hit “That’s the Way Love Goes,” and backing New Kids on the Block in an American Music Awards performance that screams 1991. (Even before then, she’d cut her teeth in musical theater, appearing in regional productions of “Oklahoma!” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”) In 1992, she bested 2,000 other hopefuls when she snagged a coveted spot as a Fly Girl on the sketch comedy show “In Living Color.” But Lopez didn’t want to be hemmed too tightly into that role either: She turned down an offer to be a backing dancer on Jackson’s tour because she wanted to act.
By the time she’d established herself onscreen — “Selena” was her breakthrough — and finally got around to giving pop stardom a go, Jenny had been around the proverbial block. On the Billboard charts and MTV, Lopez suddenly found herself competing with upstarts nearly half her age. Remember that 1999 marked not just the year of “On the 6,” but also the arrival of “Baby One More Time” and “Genie in a Bottle” — by 17-year-old Britney Spears and 18-year-old Christina Aguilera. Lopez turned 30 that July.
Especially for women, pop is often considered the domain of the almost criminally young. But in her most iconic music videos, Lopez’s age actually gave her something of an edge. Compared to the nymphets sharing her “TRL” airtime, Lopez projected a grown woman who was in full control of her image, at ease with her sexuality and confident in her incessantly Googled body.
On an episode of the podcast Still Processing, the New York Times writer Jenna Wortham suggested that Lopez’s music videos created a space in which she could express more of herself than she could in almost any of her movie roles — whether it was the bumbling and questionably Italian rom-com heroine, the cat-fighting rival (“Monster in Law”) or the tragic victim (“Enough”). “You see this woman who knows exactly where she is, in space and time,” Wortham said. “She’s not tripping over things, she doesn’t have to fight with anybody, she’s paying her own bills, her life is not in danger. She is exactly where she’s supposed to be, and she looks like she’s loving every minute of it.”
Perhaps because of her varied resume, Lopez isn’t always thought of as a pop superstar. But when she’s good, she is better than she gets credit for. The pulsating “Waiting for Tonight” remains a Y2K dance floor classic; her brassy 2004 single “Get Right” is an eternal fan favorite; even “Dinero,” her playfully raucous 2018 collaboration with Cardi B and DJ Khaled proves she can ham it up with a new generation of kindred spirits. She has admitted recently that she accepted the gig as a judge on “American Idol” in part to garner a little more respect in the music world. “I don’t think I had been taken seriously up until then for what I knew about music,” Lopez told Variety. (She was a judge on the show from 2010 to 2016.)
Plenty of Hollywood types told her that job might jeopardize her film career, too — but Lopez had heard that one before. “I was like, ‘The truth is, I’m not getting offered a whole bunch of movies,’” she said, “so what are they not going to offer me?”
The major cultural events of the next two weeks will once again draw attention to the duality of Lopez’s stardom. That will probably be to her advantage. The Oscars are poised to be especially bland this year, with their lack of diversity, predictable narratives and old-fashioned reverence for movies about white male rage. It would have been an honor to have been invited, sure, but that’s not J. Lo’s kind of party anyway. Maybe the greatest gift the Oscar ceremony can offer her is the opportunity to upstage it the weekend before.
