NATIONS HOSTING BOTH REPLICA AND NON-REPLICA POTO
United Kingdom: The UK saw the world premiere of ALW's POTO in 1986. They've also since seen the RAH staging (2011), the original UK Tours (1993-2000), the UK Tour Revival (2000), and the West End Revival (2021). It was also in the UK the new Restaged Tour was first launched (2012-2013).
United States: The US was the first opening outside the UK, premiering in 1988, and also had three national tours (1989-2010) and the Las Vegas Spectacular (2006-2012). They furthermore hosted the Restaged Tour (2013-2020).
Austria: Austria was the fourth country to host the original staging (1988-1993). In 2024 they welcomed back the musical, this time as the Restaged Tour.
Canada: Canada was the fifth country to host the original staging, in 1989. The production ran for a whopping ten years, closing in 1999. There were also various Canadian tours (1991-1998), touring nationally and internationally. They later hosted multiple visits of both US Tour and the Restaged Tour.
Australia: Australia was the eight country to host the original staging, opening in Melbourne in 1990 and later turning into a Australian and NZ Tour (until 1998). The musical would return many times as a leg of the World Tour. Uniquely, they also hosted the first out-door version at Sydney Harbour in 2022, as well as staging the Restaged Tour in Sydney and Melbourne (2022-2023).
Spain: The original Madrid production ran from 2002-2004. When POTO returned in 2023 it was in the form of the new "Mediterranean" version opening in Trieste in Italy the same year. The production also visited Bilbao, before returning to Madrid.
Dubai: The first POTO production to hit Dubai was the World Tour in 2019. In 2024 POTO returned, this time as a part of the Middle East Tour, presenting the Romanian/Norwegian production.
Switzerland: The original Basel production ran from 1995-1997. This year POTO returned in the form of the Romanian/Norwegian production, touring the Middle East and Europe.
Sweden: Sweden was the sixth country to host the original staging, in Stockholm for an impressive six years (1989-1995). They also later did a revival (2016-2017). They furthermore hosted the Finnish/Swedish version in Gothenburg (2017-2018), as well as a unique new staging in Kristianstad (2000-2003).
Soon to be added: Belgium (1999-2000 / 2025). Ireland was also meant to host the UK Tour Revival in May 2020, but for obvious reasons that was cancelled. They had previously hosted the Restaged Tour in 2012-2013. (Also, I have not included concert versions)

I would eat my own attractive face If I could get two things with it: a time machine and a ticket to the 1989 World Tour in Sydney.
Oh, to have been there for New Romantics and to see her in the fabulous Style dress; for me, one of the peaks (there are many) of Taylor's beauty and sensuality.

Dear Taylor (@taylorswift, @taylornation)
Tonight is the night before the Eras Tour Night 1 in Sydney Australia. I'll be in the crowd, for my first ever concert of yours, even though I've been a fan since the 'Debut' Era. I don't have much of an online presence although something has compelled me to write to you tonight.
I am feeling so blessed that I managed to get tickets last week. I tried at every release and had almost given up. Thankfully, I managed to get tickets and I know I'm going to have the best, most magical night ever.
At 15 years old, the first song I ever heard from you was Teardrops On My Guitar and I was immediately hooked. I remember the first time I heard it, driving in the car to Sydney. It was raining heavily, and such a movie-worthy moment, my head resting against the car window, crying to a song about loving someone you can't have. I felt that.
When Fearless came around, I was instantly hooked. Country music was my thing, and all of my favourite songs instantly became yours. Fearless, Love Story, The Way I Loved You. You made me not feel as alone in the world as I mostly felt. As a 16-17 year old, your songs were a staple in my everyday life. You made me feel like that.
In 2010, with Speak Now, you were still a staple in my everyday life. I was finishing school, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life. Your music was my escape. I didn't have many friends, I have always been awkward. Innocent was the track that spoke to me most. Even when everything felt dark, and lonely, your songs saved me. Sometimes, I imagined the lyrics were talking to me.And now that I'm '32, and still growing up now,' I still feel as though your songs are still talking to me.
With your foray into pop music with Red, my best friend started loving your music too. That made me so happy. It gave us another way to strengthen our friendship. We are the Lucky Ones. To have been blessed in this lifetime with your music.
I feel with every album release, your music spoke to me. 1989 came at a time where I was slowly falling in love. They were my Wildest Dreams, out of reach, but your music was there in the comfort of the middle of the night (and the walks and bus drives to work).
With Reputation, much like the albums earlier, I was easily able to relate to all of the music much like some songs were written about situations I had found myself in. Gorgeous especially, when I fell madly, crazily in love with someone who was already in a relationship and deluded myself into thinking I had a chance.
2019. Lover. I lost myself in these couple of years. The darkest I've ever been in my life, self hatred plaguing my entire self. Yet again, I relied on music to get me through this. Especially your music. In times of darkness, your music has always been there to get me through everything. Telling someone that I love them, and them actually making me feel that it WAS the worst thing they've ever heard? It was a whole season of a Cruel Summer.
When Folklore came around during COVID, it was definitely the Invisible String that brought me back to your music to start to heal. Illicit Affairs resonated with me so deeply, I honestly believe Folklore really helped me process my emotions more than anything else ever could. Every single track brings me back to a memory of trying to bring back that same joy and happiness that previous albums brought me. It did just that.
And then Evermore came out of nowhere, and just helped that process along. Champagne Problems, No Body No Crime, Coney Island... every song brought me a sense of familiarity and comfort. So much had changed from when I was the little girl crying to Teardrops on My Guitar but the fact that your music has helped me has never changed.
Midnights. Anti-Hero. I never like looking in the mirror, but I do look directly in the sunlight. You're On Your Own Kid. I always have been, especially when I needed someone. Would've Could've Should've... the song, that entirely summed up my twenties. Midnights made me laugh, made me cry, and this new, healed version of me used it as the soundtrack to getting better. It worked, and I'm so proud of that.
I'm sure you didn't want to read this long-winded post, I'm not even sure if you will. But I felt compelled to write it. Right now, I'm on my bed making friendship bracelets for the show tomorrow night. A few years ago, I didn't even want to be alive anymore. Now, I listen to your songs on repeat and use them to remember that it's okay to hurt, it's okay to love, it's okay to laugh. Life is worth living.
Taylor, I've had the time of my life fighting dragons with you.
I can't wait to see you tomorrow night. Thank you for everything you have done, without even knowing me. You've been there for me for all of my teenage and adult years.
With love always,
Bree.

i had a theory last night and call me a clown, but taylor hasnt released international dates yet. thats because speak now tv is coming out, and the last american shows will be like very lucky bc they’ll probably witness a lot of speak now surprise songs (thats just my guess). But i feel that once she releases international dates, where will she be going? sydney (CMON IT WOULD BE A CRIME IF SHE DIDNT). and what happened in sydney? the 1989 world tour movie. wouldnt it just make sense to announce 1989 tv there? or even like RELEASE it in sydney? idk thats my theory

2, 8, 30 and 33 for the concert asks?
what was the first concert you ever attended?
if we are going any concert, the wiggles, but my first proper adult concert was guy sebastian. he just performed at my hometown's theatre and i for some reason remember it being a Super Big Deal that he was in my hometown and touring there. it was a bit of fun.
which concert did you vibe most with the crowd?
you know what? go_a in hoofddorp. i think maybe my views on this night may have been partially tainted by *i cannot believe in in the netherlands and here and doing this* but i cannot quite remember a concert where there were as magical vibes as that one. so in terms of crowd vibe, go_a had by far the best. something in the air something something
(also lbr go_a's music is pretty unifying in itself)
have you ever been to a concert alone?
no. i think i would love to, especially with eurovision acts i often have to force someone along with me which is always annoying and awkward. but at the same time me doing that and asking someone to go with me is more of a safety thing. i live in a very suburban area, and there is never really anything near my house so in terms of getting to and from the venue, i like to not be alone, especially in unfamiliar areas. so im defs not brave enough to go alone and i dont feel comfortable with trekking to and from the venue alone.
which concert do you wish had a concert film?
fun fact: at least 3 concerts i have been to have been recorded, those being het grote songfestivalfeest 2022, 1989 world tour in sydney (my biggest swiftie flex) and prismatic sydney. at least another has a concert video but not from my date (rep) so we will be discounting those.
i almost want to say RED tour. it feels like a basic swiftie answer but I was so young when I went and can hardly remember it. not only that but i dont want to say any of the more intimate concerts I have been to like go_a bc the vibe will never be captured. i think RED was enough of a spectacle it will be transferred well on film.

Release: August 21, 1989
Lyrics:
I call you when I need you, my heart's on fire
You come to me, come to me wild and wild
When you come to me
Give me everything I need
Give me a lifetime of promises and a world of dreams
Speak a language of love like you know what it means
MMm, and it can't be wrong
Take my heart and make it strong, baby
You're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I've ever met
I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say
Tear us apart
Baby, I would rather be dead
In your heart, I see the star of every night and every day
In your eyes, I get lost, I get washed away
Just as long as I'm here in your arms
I could be in no better place
You're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I've ever met
Ooh, I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say
Don't tear us apart, no, no, no
Baby, I would rather be dead
Each time you leave me, I start losing control
You're walking away with my heart and my soul
I can feel you even when I'm alone
Oh baby, don't let go
Ooh, you're the best, ooh
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I've ever met
Ooh, I'm stuck on your heart
I hang on every word you say
Don't tear us apart, no, no
Baby, I would rather be dead
You're the best
Ooh, you're simply the best
Better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I've ever met
I'm stuck on your heart, baby
I hang on every word you say
Don't tear us apart, no, no, no
Baby, I would rather be dead
Songwriter:
Oh, you're the best
You're better than all the rest
Better than anyone
Anyone I've ever met
Ooh, you're the best
Holly Knight / Mike Chapman
SongFacts:
In 1989, American singer and songwriter Tina Turner recorded a cover version from Bonnie Tylers "The Best" for her seventh solo studio album, Foreign Affair (1989), with a saxophone solo played by Edgar Winter. Prior to recording the song, Tina Turner approached the songwriter Holly Knight and requested some changes: the addition of a bridge, which Turner felt was missing, and a key change.
Released as the lead single from 'Foreign Affair' on 21 August 1989, the song was an international success, becoming a top-five hit in numerous countries. It is one of Turner's most recognizable tunes, often considered synonymous with the singer's name. The song was used in a Pepsi commercial featuring Turner, which also served as a promo for her Foreign Affair: The Farewell Tour sponsored by Pepsi. Additionally, the song was adopted by other brands for their advertising including Applebee's and T-Mobile, as well as the Australian rugby league competition the National Rugby League, for which it remains an iconic anthem more than 30 years after its release.
The song title is often colloquially mis-cited as "Simply the Best", reflecting a phrase in the chorus. This became so commonplace that the bracketed word 'Simply' was included in the titles for releases of some subsequent versions, and in the track listing for some Tina Turner compilation albums.
In 1990, the song was used for the New South Wales Rugby League premiership (NSWRL) promotional campaign. After appearing in NSWRL's ad a year earlier (with "What You Get Is What You See"), Tina Turner was invited to Sydney, Australia, to shoot the 1990 campaign ads, in which she appears alongside rugby league players, and perform the song at that year's Grand Final. The campaign featuring Tina Turner and the song is considered one of the greatest campaigns in sports marketing, which helped change the perception of rugby league as a sport turning what was essentially a suburban game popular with working-class men into entertainment for the whole family. Such is the enduring popularity of the song as the rugby league anthem that it was featured again in the 2020 promotional campaign of NRL, more than 30 years after its release. The song is also used as an entrance song, and anthem, of Rangers F.C.. It is claimed the song was first used by the BBC for creating a highlights package to mark one of the club’s title triumphs in the early years of the 9-in-a-row era.
The song was also used in a 1998 ad for the Toyota Sienna after it became the best performing vehicle ever tested by the IIHS crash test agency at that time.
Tina Turner died on May 24, 2023 at the age of 83 in her adopted country of Switzerland.

Putting this out into the world. This is my first concert ever!! I can’t wait for N4 Sydney. First concert experience and it’s my favourite artist!! Can’t wait to live The Eras Tour in person and not just a grainy live stream. @taylorswift You have no idea what your music means to me and I love you! Can’t wait to scream sing Long Live with you and cry my heart out. Can’t wait for whatever surprise song you will choose for that night. I love all of them. I’m happy with whatever because it still feels like a dream that I get to see you live, even if it’s from far away! Still remember being a 12 year old listening to love story for the first time and now I get to sing along with you and thousands of other swifties. Still remember roller coaster of feelings when I first heard Red. The pretend concerts with my headphones on and 1989 on repeat as a teenager. The bullying endured for loving Taylor Swift when it was considered “cool” to hate on her. The whole of lover Era! Currently and forever in my folklore/evermore era (or atleast till TTPD is released). The crazy ride that was Midnights and reliving all the emotions of my younger self with Taylor’s version. Your music inspires my creativity everyday and you inspire me to keep going, keep fighting everyday! Thank you for being you! Thank you for everything!

I have a question for anyone who has ever streamed their Eras Tour show: do you think that at every show in every city on the 1989 world tour Taylor had the audience randomly shout “Sydney!” during the bridge of of blank space? DO YOU!?
