The worst thing about this godforsaken war was that suddenly, necessities like decent paper and watercolors, and his favorite pastel crayons, were suddenly considered luxuries, and he simply couldn’t get them.

What he had, though, was pencils, charcoal. He was sitting in the back of the windmill with his feet up on the table and a well earned stolen sketchbook in hand; a black ink pen, three different pencils, and a paintbrush he was using to incorporate red wine from his glass into his drawing.

Breasts. In real life there weren’t quite so heavy, nor so round, but the nipples were precisely this near red color, almost the same as the girl’s skirt, and they’d tasted nearly as sweet. 

(So had her throat.)

He was quite absorbed, when he heard a woman clear her throat.

“I’ll do you next, love,” he said, waving the brush in the air. “I’m nearly finished.”
