POPULAR DESIGNS FOR ANTIQUE EMERALD NECKLACES: FROM VICTORIAN TO ART DECO
Something undeniably stunning about emeralds is their deep green hue always looks gorgeous no matter what the backdrop or design is. The beauty and luxury of these precious gemstones have been adorned by many, from royalty to contemporary collectors.
If you are looking for an emerald antique necklace in California, there are many options from various historical periods to choose from. Many emerald necklaces are eager to tell their story, from the bright flare of Art Deco designs to the intricate designs of Victorian pieces.
Let's explore in detail the most well-liked designs!
VICTORIAN ERA: OPULENCE AND ROMANCE
The Victorian era, popularly known for its luxury and romanticism, saw the rise of emerald necklaces. Queen Victoria's love for sentimental jewelry influenced the artisans of this time. The emerald necklaces were paired with pearls, diamonds, and or precious stones for a soft and romantic appeal. Some popular designs were:
Cameo necklaces: These necklaces had cameos of historical people or mythological scenes. These were carved images made of shells or gemstones. Typically, a beautiful emerald setting encircled the cameo.
Filigree necklaces: Filigree, an elaborate metalwork technique was mostly used in Victorian jewelry. Many filigree necklaces often feature detailed patterns and designs accentuated by the brilliance of gemstones.
Edwardian necklaces: The simpler, and more refined style was the Edwardian jewelry, followed by the Victorian era. These necklaces featured larger and more noticeable emeralds set in platinum or white gold.
ART DECO: GEOMETRIC ELEGANCE
Prime Art Deco movement in 1920s and 1930s was known for glamour and luxury and emerald necklaces were designed to make a bold statement. Art Deco emerald necklaces primarily featured:
Bold geometric patterns: Triangles, squares, and circles were the main motifs used in Art Deco jewelry. These geometric patterns made up the necklace designs with emeralds seeded in them for a stunning and contemporary appearance.
Black and white contrast: Black and white were common color combinations during the Art Deco period. Jet black or black onyx was the popular combination for emerald necklaces for sophisticated and striking looks,
Eye-catching designs: The intricate designs were made on polished and sleek backdrop like platinum and gold. Diamonds and sapphires were combined with emeralds to create high-contrast designs.
ART NOUVEAU: NATURE MEETS IMAGINATION
The Art Nouveau trend began in the late 19th century and lasted till the early 20th. This period gave the jewelry a new and creative outlook. Asymmetrical shapes, organic curves, and flowing lines are some key traits of this period.
Flowers, insects, animals, and other natural motifs were linked to form unique designs and freeform patterns.
The designers made necklaces that were pieces of art and of themselves. They combined enamel and emeralds to produce vibrant designs and capture the honored individuality and inventiveness of this time.
Now, you may have gotten the idea that no matter what the aesthetic or the design is, emerald is beloved for its rich color and timeless allure and has been the main attraction for iconic designs for many ages.
So, search for an emerald antique necklace in California and understand the history of these to appreciate the artistry and significance over time. To help you in your hunt, we suggest you visit Cris Notti Jewels today to find your favorite emerald necklace. Shop now!

Turning Trash into Cash: A Guide to Selling Scrap Gold
The concept of "turning trash into cash" is an enticing one, and nowhere is this more applicable than in the world of scrap gold. Often overlooked and discarded, scrap gold can be found in various forms such as old jewelry, broken watches, dental gold, and even electronics. With gold prices continually on the rise, selling scrap gold can be a profitable venture if approached with the right knowledge and strategies. This comprehensive guide will provide you with the necessary steps to effectively sell your scrap gold and maximize your profits.
Tumblr media
Understanding Scrap Gold
Scrap gold refers to any gold that is no longer in use, whether due to damage, fashion changes, or other reasons. Common sources include:
Old Jewelry: Rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings that are outdated or broken.
Dental Gold: Gold used in dental work, such as crowns or bridges.
Electronics: Small amounts of gold are used in electronic devices due to its excellent conductivity and resistance to corrosion.
Coins and Bullion: Damaged or worn-out coins and gold bars.
Identifying the purity of your gold is crucial. Gold purity is measured in karats, with 24-karat gold being pure gold. Common purities include 10k, 14k, 18k, and 22k. Understanding the purity of your gold helps in determining its value.
Evaluating Your Scrap Gold
Before selling, you must evaluate the worth of your scrap gold. Here are the steps to do so:
Weigh Your Gold: Use a digital scale to get an accurate weight of your gold. Gold is measured in troy ounces (1 troy ounce = 31.1 grams).
Determine Purity: Check for stamps indicating karat value or use a gold testing kit to determine purity.
Calculate Value: Multiply the weight by the purity percentage (e.g., 14k gold is 58.3% pure) and then by the current market price of gold. This will give you an approximate value.
Finding Buyers
There are several options for selling scrap gold:
Local Jewelers: Many jewelers buy scrap gold for recycling or resale. Visit multiple jewelers to compare offers.
Gold Buyers: Companies that specialize in buying gold. Research their reputation and ensure they are reputable.
Online Buyers: Numerous websites offer mail-in services for selling gold. Be sure to read reviews and check their credibility.
Auctions: Selling through auctions can sometimes fetch higher prices, especially if the gold items have collectible value.
Tips for Selling Scrap Gold
To ensure you get the best price for your scrap gold, consider the following tips:
Stay Informed: Keep track of the current gold prices, as they fluctuate daily.
Get Multiple Quotes: Never settle for the first offer. Shop around to get the best deal.
Know the Scales: Make sure the buyer uses a certified scale. The weight and purity of your gold should be measured accurately.
Negotiate: Don’t be afraid to negotiate. Buyers expect it and often have room to offer a better price.
Understand the Fees: Some buyers charge processing fees. Ensure you are aware of any potential deductions from your payment.
Avoiding Scams
Unfortunately, the gold market is rife with scams. Here are some red flags to watch out for:
Unlicensed Buyers: Always deal with licensed and reputable buyers.
High Pressure Tactics: Avoid buyers who rush you into selling or make you feel uncomfortable.
Low Ball Offers: Be wary of significantly low offers compared to market value.
Preparing Your Gold for Sale
Before selling, clean your gold items to remove any dirt or residues. This can enhance the appearance and potentially increase the value. However, be gentle to avoid damage. Use mild soap and warm water, and avoid harsh chemicals.
Legal Considerations
When selling scrap gold, it’s important to be aware of any legal requirements. Some states require sellers to provide identification or report transactions to law enforcement to prevent the sale of stolen goods. Ensure you comply with all local regulations.
Environmental Impact
Selling scrap gold is not only profitable but also environmentally beneficial. Recycling gold reduces the need for mining, which has significant environmental impacts. By selling your scrap gold, you contribute to sustainable practices.
Conclusion
Turning trash into cash by selling scrap gold can be a lucrative and rewarding endeavor. By understanding the value of your gold, finding reputable buyers, and following best practices, you can maximize your returns. Remember to stay informed, be cautious of scams, and comply with legal requirements. Whether you’re looking to declutter, make some extra money, or contribute to environmental sustainability, selling scrap gold is a valuable opportunity.
