I found an old bucket list I wrote in july 2020. wouldn't you know it, on this day I have actually completed half of it. I need to lie down.

like. do you realize 😭 I was an 18 year old kid on lockdown at her parent's house, writing this to pass the time, thinking I'd probably never get to do these things ever, and here I am, 4 years later, realizing that I not only completed the first half of it, but that the rest of the list is actually achievable and I might do it someday. oh how we grow. life is awful and shitty a lot of the times but we still grow through it, despite it, and so many things can change in such a short amount of time.

if you're a teen and you're feeling hopeless today, if you're feeling like you'll never amount to anything, remember that you won't be 18 for the rest of your life, remember that your dreams matter, that they're never too big or too small as long as they're important to you, and remember that it's up to you to make them come true.

giving psych another go after having watched the first season and a bit a couple years ago before stopping because I hadn't really been feeling it

only like six or seven eps in this time, and I am enjoying it, and I would like to stick with it this time, but god, now I do remember why I gave up on it in the first place. for all the show has going for it (which is a lot!) so much of the tone (and shawn is usually the biggest offender) falls back on those really insufferable attitudes from the mid ’00s of like. hit on every woman you see, getting laid is always the biggest priority. kneejerk disdain for anything nerdy or "uncool." I'm a guy and that means I care about porn and sports and that's it

Some of my favorite little moments between these two:

Bach to the Future: Both Oscar and Eric being furious about Thadius' petty little shoutout, but Oscar's attention immediately switching to Eric in concern when Eric accidentally jumps off Oscar and hits their lid.

Battle on Ice: Eric grabbing the personal ad from Monty, stabbing through the paper with his triangle beater, and using it to hold the ad in front of Oscar so he could read it, all without having to be asked

18:12: This line from Eric - “Boy, that guy is seriously mooky.  I gotta do something, or Oscar and the rest of the guys are history!"

Dance of the Forty Thieves: Eric immediately sneaking over to Oscar first thing after he's freed

Carnival of the Animals: Oscar bringing Eric along on the stealth mission to the palace despite Eric being a giant elephant at the time

Out of Tune: Oscar bringing Eric with them on the stealth mission into the palace while everyone else goes to find new strings for Monty(or in Trevor's case stays behind to take care of Monty)

Soothsayer's Convention: Eric being jokingly insulted that the wizard they were talking to didn't recognize Oscar

Return of Scheherazade: Eric wiping down Oscar after Scheherazade's husband gets spit on him

Greensleeves: The two of them putting up posters together and clearly having a good time together while doing so, which is presumably what causes them to be late, something that is unusual for Oscar

AnimagiC 2023 Updates

Sorry for the lack of updates on this one. I had honestly given up on going to the convention quite soon after the initial excitement of the announcement had settled. I realised that I definitely wouldn't be enjoying myself at an event like that so there was no point in even considering it. In retrospect, I'm kinda glad that I gave up on the idea since their program isn't too exciting. The official program (DOWNLOAD PDF pamphlet HERE) has been released a couple of days ago and it honestly leaves a lot to be desired.

As expected, Yuki Kajiura and FictionJunction are the main event with their 20:45 show on Friday evening at the convention's biggest hall, Mozartsaal. The 30-minute concert will take place right after the big opening ceremony so I imagine the hall will be incredibly crowded. Since the opening ceremony also includes an introduction of all the major German and Japanese guests, you should definitely be there for that as well if you want to catch a glimpse of Yuki and the girls before the actual live show.

Interestingly enough, they don't have any activities scheduled for Saturday. The main event on Saturday is dedicated to SACRA MUSIC with ASCA and ReoNa being the biggest names among the appearing artists. In some way, shape or form they are both YK/Kalafina adjacent so this could be interesting to fans.

Then on Sunday, YK and FJ are once again the main event since they get to perform at 16:30 in the big hall right before the closing ceremony (for which you can expect them to make an appearance as well).

I'm surprised there are no panels or signing sessions planned for them but then again, I feel like those are not really a thing any more at AnimagiC. Only a couple of high-profile guests have a proper signing session scheduled, the rest of them won't even be present for the "autograph-handover".

If you have already secured a ticket and are planning to go, this post is of course not meant to discourage you. I'm sure their performances will be pretty epic and totally worth the ticket price. Especially for those among you who won't get the chance to travel to Japan any time soon. The pre-sale for tickets has closed a while back but if you live nearby, you could always try to buy tickets on the day of the event. They end the pre-sale early to have enough tickets available for the on-site sale. However, that's not to say that the tickets won't sell out quickly once people start arriving so you better get there bright and early. Sales start at 9:00 on Friday (long before the convention opens its doors to visitors which is at 13:00).

I met a Xiao cosplayer today who asked me what turn it was before even saying hi, and my autistic dumbass was so unprepared for the interaction it took me five seconds to understand what he meant and then I still froze for a bit before answering🤣🤣🤣

Anyway, he was the best guy to take a photo with because he took my sword and posed like he was stabbing me, it was so fun!!! :D

(ignore that I'm a bit awkward at posing because I haven't gotten the hang of it yet and also I was euphoric from finding a fellow orv reader xD)

Every now and then i feel like maybe i should change my artist nickname bc HiddenCarpet doesn't sound enough like artist username but i feel like changing it would be too much of a bother + i dislike the thought of alienation of my old art with different name.

And its not like i dislike my nickname. I really like how it looks when i sign it. And i wouldn't change the Carpet part itself. Idk about the "Hidden" part tho. I fear it makes it sound like carpets are going to be my focus and i haven't drawn that much of them in years.

But maybe i'm wrong and it does sound like an artist nickname and it doesn't sound that forgettable idk.

Reading the Tea Leaves

"What are we going to do about Chicago?"

That was the question posed to me. The asker you see (we'll call him Matt) is a former student who paid me a visit. Now I almost fell out of my chair (it's not every day the former Speaker of the House speaks to you, you know!) But beyond reminiscing about AP Gov last year, helpful context: Matt often speaks spontaneously, no lead-in. (Bless that child.) My friend and coworker said he did the same to her recently: "What are we going to do about Southerners?" (As she planned a trip to the highly trafficked locale Middle-of-Nowhere, GA. Georgia's on his mind I guess...)

Matt meant Chicago's crime, which I took to be recent government... actions. I didn't tell him...

Any and all crime, we know who's really responsible, who to pin it on if you will

I've emulated Harry Truman's approach to receiving news. (Or actually less: he watched his convention on television. I rely on word of mouth.)

I didn't earn an ELED certification, so I'm not certified nor interested in monitoring children's behavior from that age range (especially the ones that are allegedly older). Let the gray gracefully grow in, I say; Kevin, Kyron, and Stacie's sections of my scalp have all emerged so nicely lo these last 20 years.
